All I want to be able to do is install and use Titanium Backup. Can this be done without the whole bootloader unlock / install CWM recovery / Flash SU method?
This is for a GSM GN from the Google Play store.
No. Not that know of exploits like that don't work anymore. But you can just unlock, flash a recovery, flash superuser. Then flash the stock recovery and relock the boot loader.

the only way you can do that is if you're on 4.0.2, but i would bet you are on 4.0.4

Wouldn't recommend relocking the bootloader. He'll just have to wipe again next time he needs to unlock.

I would NOT recommend it either.
However, if he feels like he really has to re-lock, we now have a method that can unlock the bootloader without wiping, assuming you have root of course. (But if you ever lose root... you are screwed!
EDIT: I didn't realize that the OP had a Play Store device. Although I don't have one, the Play Store devices are said to NOT wipe when the bootloader is unlocked.

Thanks for the info. And just an FYI, my Play Store device does wipe data when I unlock the bootloader. Not a huge deal, but it does reset it to factory state.

some people have said it didnt wipe when they unlocked the bootloader when they got theirs from the playstore.
i always assume its going to wipe everything.
I had no idea that unlocking the bootloader would wipe everything, but I knew I had to unlock it first in order to root it so I could backup all my apps with Titanium Backup, so guess what happened..
The thing is, if I hadn't done that, I would have waited for the official Jelly Bean from Samsung for quite a while, for my yakjuxw variant...
Pfff. Everything about this whole affair with ROMs, rooting, backing up, seems so weird and counter-intuitive to me. I just don't understand it!

I just dont like seeing the opened lock icon below the google logo when the phone boots up, But i just want root, and the stock recovery for future ota
So Rooting it and re-locking the bootloader doesn't limit the root functionality right?
and is there a possibility of having root + CWM + Locked bootloader ?
will CWM work that way ?
Plus whats the procedure to unlock bootloader without wiping device if your device has root + locked bootloader?

Well my previous phone was an android which was never updated officially after eclair. Running Cm7 ports kinda lagged the phone which was pretty noticeable after 24 hours or so,
So i used to reboot it everyday to clear memory. and yeah, I guess old habits die hard and i just love the jellybean boot up animation, so no reason not to reboot it, and thanks a lot for your replies

Yeah, i felt it was cool too for the first 3 months of having the Gnex but recently, Every friends non-google device i see (specifically the s2 or the s3) has the triangle on the splash screen, When they see my phone start up without the unlock symbol, they're all like "whoa dude, you still haven't modded your phone?"
then i'll go like "Nah, Why should i do that when i have the purest android ever and there's no need to mod this fast beast"
Long story cut short, i just wanna show off how awesome pure android is

I've just upgraded to 4.4 here on my Nexus 7 which has broken Kingsoft office which I require for my work.
Whilst I wait for a fix from Kingsoft, is there any way to roll back to 4.3 without voiding my warranty?
Thanks in advance.
Try quick office. It's free and works fine.
If you still want to roll back, you can do without voiding warranty
Download the one click factory restore from here
http://liciousroms.com/nexus7Gen2_restore.html
and some instructions and info here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2381582
also your bootloader needs to unlocked for it to work and you will lose your data if you unlock the bootloader now.
There might be better options though. Wait for someone more knowledgeable to reply.

You can rollback to 4.3 system software however if you try to keep your user data your system will hang at boot. If you have a backup of your 4.3 user data then that is not a big deal. Alternatively if you wipe data factory reset from recovery that will get things working again.
You do need to unlock your bootloader and flash the factory images though.

You need to have the bootloader unlocked to flash anything unsigned. Currently the only thing Google sends out that is signed are the OTAs. There is no OTA from KRT16S/O back to JSS15*, so your only option is to use a factory restore. Since the factory restores shipped so far are not signed, you need to unlock bootloader.
You can unlock the bootloader here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2379618
During the process of unlocking bootloader, the system will wipe your userdata and sdcard for security reasons.
The post you reference assumes your bootloader is already unlocked.
So, you got two options left.
You need to unlock the bootloader under both methods. Remember it wipes user data completely.
After unlocking you can either flash the factory image for 4.3 or use the one click factory restore.
Personally I feel one click factory restore is easier

Yes, but I may be mistaken but unlocking the boot loader may constitute as voiding the warranty as well.
You would have to unlock it, which will wipe, downgrade to 4.3, then relock it to make it look stock.
Thanks guys I'm back on 4.3. How do I re-lock the boot loader?

You can get back to the 4.3 ROM w/o wiping user data (as a result of the unlock)
However the 4.3 ROM will not boot (will hang at X animation) with your user data once the 4.4 upgrade process has completed on your user data, so you will probably end up wiping user data anyway to get the boot to complete.

Boot to bootloader (Power+VolDown)
in command prompt in your SDKs platform-tools directory
fastboot oem lock
Unlike unlocking, you will NOT have to wipe user data when locking.
Locking just sets a flag so it is very fast.
However, I would leave it unlocked if I were you and you are not selling it or getting warranty work done. If you ever need to unlock again you are going to be in the same boat of losing all of your data.

Let me ask a question. I've got my bootloader unlocked and I've downloaded the stock 4.3.2 from the Google Developer's site. If I don't want to do the one click restore can someone point me in the right direction for a good step by step? I've looked at a couple of different ones but none looked right or I'm not reading things correctly. To be honest I can't find the one I read from a couple of days ago. It addresses dealing with the tarball you get when you download the image from Google, but I'm really really bad about not using bookmarks. So I'm kinda stuck at this point now. Thanks in advanced.
Found it
[SOLVED] I followed this thread to get everything updated and make sure I was all stock, and then went to bootloader and ran fastboot flashing lock to relock the bootloader. Everything working great now.
I'm trading my Verizon Pixel XL for a normal Pixel, and need to relock the bootloader first. I haven't installed a custom kernal or ROMs or anything, so can I just lock via fastboot safely?
I don't want to do something that will brick it!
I'm aware this is stupid and I'd rather just leave it, but dude is sketched out by warning on startup and won't trade till it's gone :/
Thanks!
[Edit] it should maybe be noted that I haven't installed any updates since rooting, and I'm not sure if those are important first or not?

To use Google Pay, you need to pass Safety net.
It is not related to bootloader.
And relocking bootloader without losing any data is possible if and only if you did not flash any custom mods like recovery , kernel ..As it validates md5 checksum

I hadnt updated my Rom, Pixel experience, in a while, so i took the opportunity and flashed an (at the time) beta Pixel Experience Android 10, i reverted and everything was fine for about one day i think, then some artifacting wich would come and go until the display gived up completly (about an hour between the two)
Yes, it is unlocked, and when in fastboot/recovery the screen is lighted up but not showing anything
My guess is that i have a low level firmware issue, as i had problem with those before (was running a custom ROM from day 1, so i had to manually update firware to use newer versions of PE (still pie version) and almost bricked my device

Then try the next:
- Flash a different vendor.
- Flash a different kernel.
- Revert to stock ROM, no need to lock or nothing, just flash first the recovery ROM but if it doesn't result then flash the fastboot ROM through EDL, so that you know you can boot to EDL mode without need to open the back cover, this will restore all the original images.

Code:

if your bootloader is locked, you can't flash through fastboot mode either vendor or stock ROM, you should need to use EDL method or you can re-unlock bootloader and this way will work. Anyway i don't understand what actually your issue is.

The issue is the display not working, and it's gotta be a firmware issue as it's on my desk right now showing a bunny, also i am not used to fastboot flash anything, i just was used to recoveries and what not

Well, this make sense although it's not clear if you did unlock it previously and after that at some time you did lock it again.
If you didn't unlock it previously you would need to bind your Mi account to the device and enable USB debugging and OEM unlock options but if you didn't before without a screen working you have a more difficult way, confirm me if that is the case.
Anyway I got happily surprised when I bought this device some months ago at the first attempt I could unlock it without have to wait time, try it and see what happen.

It was unloked and i locked again, don't know if this helps my case or if i am royally screwed up
And yeah, Xioami does make difficult to do the process of unlocking but only to recently released devices, aparently to stop re-sellers to buy the cheaper chinese rom and put the global version on them, i think that when a device doenst get made anymore makes sense that they would make it more easy (i bought the device 2 weeks after launch)

Ok, of course this makes a huge difference, if you did unlock it previously then you couldn't receive any wait time, I wonder why you didn't try it if you didn 't. Check if MiUnlock tool unlock your device instantly.

Hmm, OK, now you have your way sorted out, you can try with a custom ROM (all of them contain a vendor) or in case a custom ROM doesn't solve it you have to try a stock ROM through Mi Flash tool.

Ok, but how am i gonna flash a rom with fastboot? Is that a thing?
Also, i don't think the vendor is gonna be my only problem, but also the firmware, is there a way to flash firmware without the recovery and trough fastboot?

You can't be sure of that, sometimes the vendor correct the issue, sometimes the firmware.
Firmware it is in the stock ROM that can be flashed either through fastboot or EDL mode (be careful to not relock bootloader or you couldn't enable this time OEM unlock option). Now that you have the way more clear just do a search "how to flash stock ROM on Xiaomi devices either through fastboot or EDL mode", just keep in mind that you don't need to open the back cover of the device, usually from a device off (only on unlocked ones) you could send it to EDL by pressing both volume buttons at same time that it is connected to PC, I gave you the main tips, for the rest you will find a lot of tutorials.
