What are my options on a 2PS6400 with Android versions Rooting and S-OFF - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

I bought this new off eBay for development only. I have no plans to Activate it.
I would love to just run RUU for Android 6, 7, or 8 as needed.
Which RUU's do I need for a 2PS6400
I'm confuse what this phone is. It was advertised as "Sprint Unlocked". It was brand new sealed.
I put an old Sprint SIM in it, just to get rid of some warnings and wasn't sure if it would help GPS quality by pinging towers. GPS is running pretty poorly. Runs fine on Deactivated M9.
It doesn't have any Sprint Crap on it, which is really nice.
I would like to avoid S-OFF and rooting if possible. But I don't mind using the ZIP RUU on the SD Card to switch.
I just noticed this thread of someone switching from Nougat to Marshmallow but he was S_OFF, Rooted, TWRP etc.
But based on the Video he posted to finally make it work, if he put the ZIP on the SD Card my recollection is S-OFF wouldn't matter.
Anything other than RUU makes me nervous trying to go backwards manually flashing old firmware with S-OFF (with partition changes etc.).
I've also lost S-OFF that I paid for in the M9. I don't mind at all in paying once, but I'm not paying multiple times.
Also it shows 2.42.651.66 Are their Android 7 updates I can apply?
If I check for software updates, it might kick off the Android 8 update and I may not be able to stop it. What are my options there?

boot into download mode. If it was a true brand new sprint phone that was unlocked it would still have sprint apps. People on ebay are either buying new phones and flashing new roms themselves or buying new phones thatve been flashed by some other company.
Hold vol down and power button until the htc logo lights up and it should boot into download mode. Take note of the red colored data up top and write down the radio and os. Also do a imei and serial number check. If its anything other than an htc 10 send it back

The last update for the Sprint HTC 10 was for 2.51.651.31
You can download the RUU.exe directly from HTC for it, or you could check for updates in settings > about for the OTA
Here's a link for the RUU.exe Scroll down to the "Manual System Update Instructions" and read them. The download is at the end of the instructions.
If you would prefer to flash the RUU via your SD card, or you don't have a Windows computer (you need one for the .exe), let me know and I'll extract the ROM.zip (RUU.zip) for you so you can flash it that way. You could also probably just find the .zip with a Google search.
EDIT: Apparently Sprint has released Oreo via OTA, but there isn't an RUU for it yet

Cool it's already S-Off, Unlocked. I think it's an "HTC 10 Unlocked/Developer" but it's hard to confirm a matching RUU with the 2PS6400 model number.
It was factory sealed. But I still don't know what RUU's are safe to use with it.

Hmmm, well 2PS640000 is Sprint's MID so you should be careful with that. In general flashing, GSM firmware to a CDMA phone can be dangerous and lead to a brick. There is a way to convert the HTC 10, but I'm not up to speed on it. Since your phone is S-Off I have a feeling someone might have done that. You could try to do an ESN check with the IMEI and see what that brings up as far as what is was originally.
US Unlocked's MID is 2PS650000, and with your current MID you wouldn't be able to flash a US Unlocked RUU

Nobody did anything to it. He sold 60 of them and it was clearly factory sealed. I see it mentioned a lot when googling around with other people just as puzzled exactly what it is. It's some sort of developer phone.
Someone had a 2PS500 as well that sounded identical. It had S-Off and same bare bones Sprint firmware version.
Ting says it will activate. But it says no on other carriers. I don't care though, but if I ever sold it, it looks like Ting (at least) would work.
It would not let the Unlocked ( *.617.*) RUU Run firmware flash.
The current firmware it had is 2.42.651.66 which is a Sprint Variant.
The CID is set to 1111111
So I tried the Sprint 2.51.651.31 RUU update and it flashed fine. And now has all the Sprint Garbage on it. I don't care. I now know what I can flash to it or not.
It still shows S-Off and Unlocked and Official after Sprint RUU.
It would be nice to know if I could safely flash the Oreo Sprint RUU (which I highly suspect will also flash fine once released) and then go BACK to the Nougat Sprint one as needed back and forth.
Since it's S-Off etc. It would be handy to be to test Android 7 and 8 with one phone.
If I bricked it, I can return for 30 days. So I rather brick it now than later

I took a shot at updating to Android 8 OTA and it worked fine. Will test if I can flash back to Android 7 with the same RUU I used above.
I can't get a very good GPS lock on this thing. Every other deactivated phone I have can get a good lock.

sounds a bit like mine... a 2PS6500, came pre-Soff with SuperCID 111111 and MID converted to 2PS6200... had Nougat WWE.401 installed & GPS was great.
once i took the OTA to Oreo, i now have issues with GPS, as I can see all the satellites, but can't get any GPS-lock at all anymore

I can still get a gps lock just not a great one and sluggish to get a lock.

Tried flashing back to Android 7 with the RUU (I used earlier), no go. Once Android 8 is on their seems no easy way of going back and I'm not gonna try manually doing it as I'll brick it for sure.
Gonna probably send it back. I was willing to live with marginal GPS (which I need for my app debug) but was going to keep it if I could easily switch between Android 7 and 8 (and back).
But it doesn't look that way.
Charger just died too.

Did you find a solution?
I think I have the same phone from ebay - pre-Soff Sprint that was converted.
And no GPS lock. (running Oreo US Unlocked.)

Just a follow up. I sent mine back. Got a new real Verizon one for $200.00 on eBay (had no box but it looks new with fairly recent build date too). Works perfect, including GPS without being activated.
I had to manually flash it to the last Android 7 update via adb/fastboot couldn't do it OTA (WIFI) which I thought was a little odd.

[Q] New HOX Owner, Few Questions

I just received my HOX today from Expansys, EU version I believe.
I plan to root, ROM and everything else I can do.
So, I've got a few questions on where I should go from here.
Should I install the OTA? Or should I wait just in case there's some unlock/s-off method related to older versions that get fixed/patched with the newer OTA?
Should I unlock via HTCDev or wait for devs to figure out unlock/s-off? As an app developer, I generally keep old phones laying around so I likely won't be selling it, and as long as the actual hardware is still under warranty, I'm not too concerned.
Is there a way to do a full backup of the phone as is? If I were to say, install CM9, do I need the full backup or can I just re-install a stock image?
Anything I should look at/inspect before I get too crazy with the phone? Serial number, where it's manufactured, specific defects, etc...?

you should definitely install any OTA that you get. if there is an s-off method discovered, it will be time and it probably won't matter what version you're running. i don't know how it works, but these updates have important fixes. if you only update to 1.28, then it might be a long wait for another OTA so you have to decide for yourself if you want to wait or unlock. you can't do a backup without unlocking and installing CWM afaik. as for inspection, just use it normally and see what it does. i just noticed on mine in the sunlight the screen looks like a grid when it's off. that's not a flaw but some people would probably freak out and exchange it. if your whites are bright white and you have no dead pixels, then your phone is good.
If you aren't more concerned about warranty, unlock through htcdev.com, as s-off may take too long, I didn't see any update on that. Once you unlock through htcdev.com you're good for everything.
I suggest you to avoid installing OTAs if you have plans to unlock your device, as the s-off devs are currently working on hboot 0.4x version. If you update the phone with OTAs the hboot will be updated to 0.9x, so you have to find a way to get downgrade your bootloader to get s-off.

Cannot update HTC M8. Tried everything. HELP!

First of all, I'm sorry if this has been solved before or I if am too imcompetent to do this. I'm having an imported taiwanese version CID HTC__621 and running the stock 1.54.709.12 4.4.2 rom and with hboot 3.16 and am S-On. My bootloader is also unlocked. In short, I am trying to update my M8 to 4.4.3 but to no avail, I got the red triangle. Having checked the log, I found that I had the KKbox_android.apk and who knows what else missing. I've searched high and low by visiting many threads and even tried to extract the apk from the update package to put in the data/preload/ folder. I've also been to obscure taiwanese threads and, ultimately, come to a dead end with the unexpected content message.
Other than that, after an entire day's worth of searching and hundreds of tabs opened as well as too many files to count downloaded and deleted, I am back to square one. Having tried relocking the bootloader and flashing the ruus, installing the stock nandroid backups, trying to flash the firmware from the update package and getting the 12 signature very fail and the 99 unknown fail messages and trying all other alternatives, I am still stuck at the same place.
The only reason why I hadn't updated before was because I wanted to get S-Off. However, after months of waiting, I got greeted with the disheartening message that firware was dead. And I don't think I'd like to dish out $25 for sunshine. I simply want to update to 4.4.4, in which I have to go through 4.4.3 first when updating through OTA to install the Skydragon rom. Neither can I get any other custom roms because they all need higher hboot versions. I also couldn't find any hboot standalone files which I doubt would work. I'm sick of sense and I really can't stand it any longer.
So does anyone have the apks or any other methods? As I am really out of ideas. I've wasted so much of my time trying to get this thing to update I don't even know what I'm doing anymore. And, did I mention before? I'm really sick of sense. I've never had this much of a hassle to install a custom rom on any other phones. In fact, they all went well the first time and this is the only phone I've had that's so adamant to change. It really does look like the best phone of 2014 is also the most troublesome phone of 2015.
Sorry for the long post.
Hey stop crying and spend the money it will not charge you if it doesn't work so...if it works then do
The Super Cid 11111111... And your troubles will be done..
Problem is... I don't have a credit card yet and I don't think my dad would be to happy to pay for it.

Skip step 10, 11 & 12 but do software update checking (repeat step 9) because there are more OTA to install up to the latest lollipop 4.19.709.2
If you're not sure what to do, contact me on Wed, I'll be home by then.
I have all the files needed.

Change rom?

Is it possible to flash a unlocked rom to a Tmobile version of the HTC 10? I've seen this done with SAmsung S7edge carrier to unlocked anf it worked. Guy said he hasnt had issues and this was on XDA.

Sure can, just pick a ROM that support multi-carrier, such as Viper, Leedroid, ICE.
When you flash the ROM, in aroma you will be presented with an option to choose carrier, pick Tmobile and good to go. :good:

To fully convert your device to us unlocked, you will need to s-off, using the paid sunshine app ($25). This is the only way you will be able to flash the US unlocked firmware. If you want to try keeping your tmo firmware and just try to use the US unlocked ROM, your best bet is to download a US unlocked backup and restore it with TWRP.
Stock backups are in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/stock-stock-collection-recovery-ruu-ota-t3359297
There isn't a 1.91 backup available yet, though. 1.80 is the best you can do.
So after I do this will it think my phone has beem untouched and allow for OTA? The person I spoke with about his Galaxy S7 he flashed the unlocked rom to from carrier says everything works as it was factory unlocked phone even samsung pay. I am hoping to do the same for my HTC
For instance direct firmware from HTC
http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-10/news/
Hopefully it displays right but it has the direct download for the 1.91.617.1 or whatever the Unlocked one is. How would I flash this do my device amd make it think it's all factory to receive OTA updates still?

To use that file, you need to fully convert, which means using sunshine to s-off, then changing your cid and mid to match the us unlocked. Then you will have a fully functioning us unlocked device.
If you just want the US unlocked rom, then just restore a stock us unlocked backup in twrp. This will be mostly fully functioning, but you will still be in T-Mobile firmware (shouldn't be a problem as long as your on the newest T-Mobile firmware already) and you won't be able to get ota.

To use an RUU (ROM Update Utility) from HTC's website, you either have to use the one for your specific device OR you have to convert your device by using sunshine to s-off ($25) and changing your model id (probably not necessary as I'm 99% sure that TMO and US Unlocked use the same mid) and carrier id (definitely necessary) to match the RUU you want to flash.
Also, just for your education, I know Samsung people call everything firmware, but technically that's incorrect and in the HTC world, firmware refers to the actual firmware (like bootloader, modem, radio, etc) and ROM, or system, refers to the system files (like android framework, apps, system ui, etc).
There is a thread in the Guide section that details using Sunshine to S-Off.
And see post #3 in this thread about converting a device to WWE (World Wide Edition) using RUU. The steps to convert to US Unlocked are identical EXCEPT for the following:
Step 7:
CID for US Unlocked is BS_US001
MID for US Unlocked is 2PS650000
Step 8:
Get the US Unlocked RUU.zip from here
Once you do that, you will have a 100% fully functioning US Unlocked device. The only difference from a factory provided US Unlocked device will be the text on the rear housing.
Thank you all for helping I've only flased a few times and it still is complicated to me.

No problem. Can I ask what you would like to accomplish with the US Unlocked rom as opposed to T-Mobile? Just debloat?
I'm worried Tmobile has abandoned the 10. They don't list it online, most stores do not have stock anymore, and the ones that do have few left due to initial shipment. New roms have been out and Tmobile has yet to keep it updated, software only has a few added apps other than that unlocked vs Tmobile roms are the same. Both Roms support VoLTE, Band 12, and Wi-Fi calling. I want faster updates. I love my HTC 10 except it has a few bugs in radios i.e. wifi and LTE. I have no clue if Tmobile will continue to support it, they claim they will but have yet to update the device.

I hear you. Then you need to do the full conversion to accomplish that. Just follow the guide I linked to exactly and if you don't understand something, just ask before doing anything. It's not really novice level, but it's hardly rocket science and everything is pretty well laid out in writing. Good luck
I followed the s-off step, changed my cid, used HTCs RUU and flashed it. It's starting up now.
What does this mean? Cause I'm S-off? How do I S-on? I flashed by being s-off but locked should i have been unlocked?
Is this a good sign?

That's normal. Looks good. The Sunshine guys suggest locked is preferred.
Don't play around with going s-on until you need to return the phone or sell it. It's not necessary and if you don't do something right can brick the phone.
Anyone with a unlocked US HTC 10 is it typical for it to ask which carrier after inserting sum. Restarting?

Verizon to US Unlocked Questions

I've been reading around and mostly want to know everything for this for that time when CM becomes stable.
Anyways:
Do you lose Verizon network functionality? By this I really mean, calls, SMS, SMS, voice mail, and 4G LTE.
When converted...just act like it's the US unlocked model when flashing ROMs? Do I need to flash the Verizon radio?
I'm confused...and the final question..
To convert it requires a SuperCID and then RUU flash, right? I've seen Sprint owners do it and one Verizon owner, but the instructions were all very unclear to me.
Thanks!
Answers are on post #4, tested it out after being sure of how to do this. If you're lazy, click here...
I've converted my VZW branded 10 to U.S Unlocked. I am NOT using the phone on Verizon network, so I can only answer part of your questions.
To convert, I changed my cid to SuperCID (22222222) and flashed the latest stock RUU.exe from HTC.com for U.S Unlocked. Pretty simple.
I can't tell you if the phone would work on Verizon network, but I would assume it would with a radio flash to get the basic things you mentioned working, as outlined in:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-10/how-to/vzw-how-to-unlocked-model-vzw-t3376743
Haven't yet flashed any non-stock roms, but I can't imagine why this would be a problem. Also the CM thread has some people who flashed the Unlocked firmware on a VZW phone and got CM working.
I haven't and probably will never try, but I see advanced feature breaking after you do this like wifi calling and the like. but ive also heard all that's different is the radio. but theres different settings unlocked and hidden between the two that may give issues also.
so just give it a shot if you really want. the worst that would happen is you would need to switch back to Verizon firmware.

Changed my CID to SuperCID (22222222).
Got the latest Unlocked U.S. FW from the HTC Dev site (RUU EXE) and flashed it.
Flashed a Verizon radio in fastboot. (The same one used to make the actual U.S. Unlocked variant work on Verizon)
Flashed TWRP in fastboot.
Formatted my data.
It booted without issue.
Followed this guide (though, on initial boot it showed 4GLTE active BUT no bars (line through them).
After following the guide, I rebooted.
Testing functions:
Calls: Functional and no delays.
SMS: Functional and fast.
MMS: Functional and fast.
Data connection: Functional.
Behavior after reboot: Starts again with the bars crossed off, eventually comes up and working though. Works after that, calls too. Takes about 45 seconds to connect.
Thing to note: It seems as if my signal strength is lessened. Though, this could easily be placebo, weather, etc. It's 1:31AM and I've never paid attention to it before.
Network comes up as 3107 instead of Verizon Wireless.
HTC software updates seem to be broken, it gives a corrupted error. I'm locked/S-OFF, so dunno.
Final deduction: It seems to functional and all, without hiccup most likely. It takes longer to connect than the stock VZW FW does of course, but after the boot it seems fine.
I'm done testing this for now, but if anyone is wondering yeah go for a it. It seems to be fine besides a slower initial connection. Excited for CM to become stable, then I'll play with this some more.

I was the guinea pig for this in regards to Sprint, but you've seem to partially answer a question I had.
I know that the Verizon and US Unlocked use the same model ID, but the Sprint and internal do not. Leaves me wondering if I could just run the RUU for my Sprint phone.

Does your volte work ? Something you can try is flash Viper10 and select as a verizon model instead of the unlocked version, this will add get you on global mode and I think will fix your signal issues. You list your on Viper10 just dirty flash it again selecting verizon version and give it a try. If it does not help you can always just dirty flash again and go back selecting the unlocked version. Just do a back up before doing this and you will covered if you just want to restore the back up. From my experience this might help just do not try running a custom kernel for the verizon version if you converted to the unlocked as your camera may not work and keep forcing close but you can run a custom kernel for the unlocked if you converted to unlocked. My recommendation would be to run the Elite kernel as I have had really good luck with the Elite kernel on the Htc 10 and I think theirs is what I run well on my Motorola nexus 6 also.
Ariac, regarding OTA software updates on the phone, I think you get that "corrupt" message because you flashed a different radio and twrp. Might be worth flashing the original Unlocked radio/recovery back and see if it at least detects the latest update. If it does, you'll also need to remove superCID to be able to take the update.
I reflashed the RUU yesterday, removed superCID and I was able to take the OTA.

Unlocked VZW update

So I have an unlocked HTC 10. a while back I managed to do all the good stuff to make it work with Verizon. I don't remember all of the things I did, but safe to say the needed things for it work on Verizon through the #*#*4636*#*# menu. Fast forward a year later, I'm still on 6.0.1 and I would like to know how I can go to the latest and greatest update from Android while being able to connect to the Verizon signal. I haven't kept up with anything from here so pardon my lack of knowledge.

So you must be s-off in that case and you simply flashed the Verizon radios, right?
You can probably update your unlocked 10 to the latest software, and then redo the steps you originally did to get it to work on verizon.
To update:
If you were never rooted and didn't ever modify your system partition, make sure you have stock recovery and take the OTA update.
If you are rooted, but have an untouched system backup on hand, restore it as well as stock recovery and then take the OTA.
If you are rooted with no backup, or if the above options fail, the easiest and cleanest way is to backup your phone contents and run the latest Nougat ruu which will bring you to fully stock and updated.
Other option, since you're s-off, is to flash the OTA "manually" with twrp and through fastboot. Look for instructions in the twrp thread faq.

No. To convert US Unlocked to VZW we had to manually set the CID and then run the Verizon RUU. If we flash the latest N RUU, I don't think that'll work on VZW. Last I checked (which was last fall TBH) VZW was on a different and older branch than the Unlocked latest head codeline. We should be able to run the latest VZQ RUU assuming someone has made one. I'm also looking for this. I'll update this post if I find it.

Where does the OP say he converted to VZW variant?
There are two ways to get unlocked to work on VZW, one is to flash just the modem and the other is a full Vzw conversion. Based on the fact he states he had to go into the secret menu, my guess is that it was the former which is why I asked....
FYI latest vzw ruu can be found on the Verizon HTC 10 forums.

Interesting, didn't know you could get VZW to work without the full conversion. That was the route I went, and despite it, my phone still shows up on Verzion as a 'Non Verizon Device' (Everything works though). Thanks for the link to the RUU though!
