Hello All,
Mostly a newb to the flashing process for the HTC10 but I've read a lot of the firmware flashing posts etc. Using these posts I successfully debranded a phone from Mexico, using SunShine etc. All was fine until I wanted to try to upgrade the firmware to the latest version. Here's my info:
Code:

So I've upgraded this firmware using the guide (https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/2016-05-27-fastboot-flashing-firmware-t3387520) and then flashed the latest TWRP, using it to wipe the system and re-install my OS (Pure Fusion OS latest, https://download.purefusionos.com/roms/pme/testing-o/). However after flashing, it no longer detects my SIM Card, asking for it to be inserted. I've tried re-flashing the Full Stock and NoWipe versions of the firmware to no avail.
My question is, have I bricked my phone? I've tried flashing the stock 2.41.401.41 via TWRP and via zip but it won't get past the logo screen. It gets past "upgrading apps" but then just shows the HTC logo permanently. I can tell it's reached the OS because I can lock the screen and unlock it, but there are no menus.
What else can I try?

Did you format data in twrp? Not wipe but format. Twrp-wipe- advanced-format- type yes. If that still doesn't work flash this RUU https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=213105
rename the zip to 2PS6IMG.zip
Place on external SD card
Boot to download mode
Press vol up to flash.
Ruu will erase your internal storage. Once you have stock running with everything working then you can try flashing ROMS. also it might tell you to OTA update to Oreo after that ruu so you might want to make sure that purefusion boots with Oreo firmware before taking the OTA
You sir are a god amongst men ; I am tempted to search out your other posts so I can give you more 'thanks' votes. The new software did the trick, and I found out that I wasn't waiting long enough for the green "HTC" logo to go away. Cheers!
I have the same problem. After installing the software does not see the SIM card. I tried to clean and format but it did not help.

It does not work because you flashed an OREO rom (leedroid) on your NOUGAT firmware. That's a no go. Now you need either to upgrade to OREO or erase the persist partition. Check the GUIDE section and look for the downgrade thread, the specific fastboot command is given there.

That's a whole different problem which isn't appropriate for this thread. How to update to oreo isn't in here. Just thought from your post that you needed signal back.

Every time i reboot phone i get stuck in bootloop , i have to wipe cache and dalvik cache to fix this . Fixed permissions in recovery, reflashed ROM , the problem still persists. Changed ROM . the problem is still there. I was using the same ROM before , didn't have this problem before , appeared out of nowhere.
Using Insertcoin ROM currently , ElementalX kernel.
Please help.
Anyone?
Did you attempt a factory reset while running a non-stock recovery?
If so, you need to put the stock recovery back on, let it complete the reset, then put your desired recovery back. This is true even if you are using a non-stock ROM.

Not nearly enough info:
1) What hboot, radio number?
2) What OS number (on bootloader screen) or main version (on getvar all)
3) What version InsertCoin you trying to flash? What other ROMs and version?
4) What version TWRP?

i guess there is a firmware mismatch.
This is originally a t-mobile version of M8 but it is sim-unlocked and i flash international version of any rom i flash. I also have no GPS Lock problem (might get fixed because of firmware? Tried everything FasterGPS, GPS status and Toolbox, no fix)
Being S-ON, i want to upgrade the firmware. How can i do that?
Can you explain to me in steps.
I've searched and have gotten really confused in these things like -
What RUU should i download (t-mobile or international?) and in what order should i do steps like relocking bootloader and stock recovery.
Need the solution in proper steps.
Thank you.

Firmware mismatch is your problem, as indicated by your radio number and OS number (on bootloader screen) which both correspond to Kitkat (Android 4.4.4).

You need to use the T-Mobile US RUU (available here).
You can only run an RUU that matches your phone's carrier ID (CID) and model ID (MID), which in your case correspond to T-Mobile US. CID and MID can only be changed with s-off (have nothing to do with the ROM your flash).
What you want to do is:
1) Backup any personal data you want to keep (RUU will wipe the phone, including internal storage).
2) Relock the bootloader with command: fastboot oem lock
3) Connect phone to PC and run the RUU (its very self explanatory, just follow the prompts). Your firmware is not updated, and you are on the stock T-MOB Lollipop ROM, and stock recovery.
4) To get back to InsertCoin, unlock the bootloader again using the HTCDev.com website.
5) Flash current version TWRP in fastboot.
6) Flash InsertCoin.
Any idea why it fails to flash the 1/2 part of the update in the recovery? It's loading like 1/4 of the progress bar, and then the red warning sign appears. WWE Eu unlocked version. Also, the ruu to flash the 5.1 2.10.401.1 ( i tought it might work with a fresh install ) seems to be not working, as the process suddenly stops after i agree the terms of use and click continue ( i used the exe ).
It had been reverted to stock via a stock rom backup ( from xda, can't remember the exact thread ).
State: S-ON, bootloader relocked, never changed the CID, stock everything ( including the recovery, as i flashed the signed stock version via fastboot after the first failed update try).
Other than that, i don't really know what to do. Also, can i get another link for a 2.10.401.1 ruu ( it seems that it only gives me the 3.35.617.12 on the htc website )? .exe format ( ikr, i'm a noob )
All I can say is the update worked flawlessly on my totally stock phone but I'm yet to notice any significant difference..

My phone is full stock. Was never unlocked. How can I install a fresh rom?
Just to be clear. The update takes ages and reboots many times. Do not touch the phone until it has fully started.
If you get the htc logo after unlocking the screen just leave it for a minute or two.

If you are still with a 2.x firmware, you won't be able to run a Sense Marshmallow rom that needs your firmware to be upgraded. So, two solutions :
- You wait until the official upgrade is available in your country, install it and then you'll be able to flash a Sense Marshmallow rom
- Or you turn your phone S-off and install a 3.x firmware before to flash.
FYI, AOSP Marshmallow roms doesn't need any firmware upgrade (as there are no HTC Sense dependencies), I tried CM13 with 2.10 firmware, it was working perfectly.
i have the same problem.

He said "S-ON, bootloader relocked, never changed the CID, stock everything ( including the recovery, as i flashed the signed stock version via fastboot after the first failed update try)". If the device is completely reverted to stock and official update is available in your country, why not to install OTA?

Mine is with original OS, locked, s-on and I still have this problem with OTA update. HTC said could be a problem with first download (something corrupted) and now can be solved only with manual update in service. Have anyone any idea how can be done that at home? I don't want to send my phone to service.
Sorry for my English!
The problem was solved. It took me 6 hours to manage this. All you need to do is re flash the stock backup with TWRP.
Thank you all developers on this forum !!!

You always need to use the one that corresponds to your current firmware version. As explained in my instructions the firmware version of your phone is stated in Download Mode. Be sure you follow every step exactly as I wrote it. If you don't do that it's no miracle that you can't restore the ability to install OTAs.
My HTC Desire 816 Dual SIM,
1. does not boot normally,
2. only boots into FASTBOOT page,
3. in FASTBOOT page I can select and enter Hboot page,
4. in Hboot menu, when I select RECOVERY, or FACTORY RESET, it returns only to FASTBOOT page.
5. as the attachment shows, there is nothing written in front of "OS-"; it is blank.
Questions:
1. In these conditions, is it possible to flash the ZIP ROM from sdcard via Hboot?
2. Is it not necessary to flash stock recovery, wipe some partitions, etc first, and only then proceed to flashing ZIP ROM from sdcard via Hboot?

It should be but you will need to have the stock recovery reinstalled by first unlocking your bootloader then flashing back your stock recovery then relock bootloader and then flash the RUU or stock zip file thru either ADB /fastboot on your computer or via SD card and renaming the image OP9CIMG and hboot should pick it up and flash it automatically. Did you accidentally wipe your system or try to flash something that corrupted it? In other words what happened before all this? We're you rooted with a custom recovery or still on stock?

Because my phone has behaved abnormally (OS- is blank, as attachment shows; unlocking bootloader did not show Yes or No page; and other abnormalities), I am not sure whether to download a file over 1.20GB, or not? I am afraid about failure! Is not my phone in a situation that needs some preparations before doing what you said?
Hi
Thanks for reply. I was attempting to go back to stock and had installed stock recovery and then relocked the bootloader and when i tried to install the RUU it said it was the wrong one.
I then tried the Hboot way but received the same error. I need to find several RUUs to be able to find the correct version for my 816 which i believe is Asian but not sure where.

Oh, ok I get it now. Think the forum I linked you to was for the European a5_ul. Here's a link to some a5_ul roms kitkat and lollipop. I see one of the lollipop versions is Asia. Try to match your CID and version ID or at least your radio ID's before flashing it. "fastboot getvar all" will give you most of that info but it looks like that might be your firmware. Also make sure you relocked your bootloader before flashing. Good luck

Sorry, I wasn't trying to accuse you of doing something to your phone but those pictures don't show me any of that. It just shows that you seem to no longer have an OS with your lack of a CID and something happened to cause this. It's not about finger pointing but getting the issue resolved for you I know. As for helping you unlock your bootloader the method is pretty straight forward and if it didn't work for whatever reason the only real advice I can give is to just try it again. That's how I unlocked mine so maybe it was just a glitch and another attempt will work. For now I'm more concerned that you didn't wipe anything yet your recovery and firmware seen too be missing or at least inaccessible from your bootloader. The factory reset was going to be my first suggestion but since your already done that have you tried to enter your recovery thru ADB/fastboot? (fastboot reboot recovery.) The other thing is what region are you in( India, Asia, European) and does " fastboot getvar all" work from using ADB? Also if your OS is wiped then any RUU flash will reformat your partitions for you and restore your rom. Also were you on kitkat or lollipop stock rom?

Again thanks for the reply.
My 816 A5UL is Asia-HK-CHT
CID-622
I cannot find a RUU that matches.
I believe the Rom could be OPc21000
Which i cannot find anywhere.

Yeah I've never heard of that version before. I only found one link here below that even mentions that CID but no solution. If you haven't flashed the one I linked I'd try it anyway because as long as your S on the signed rom won't flash if it's the wrong one but if your sure it's wrong then save the data hit to your ISP cap. Sorry I wasn't of more help to you.

You are being kind to me by trying to resolve my problem.
1. I tried again but it did not help.
2. I will try "fastboot reboot recovery", and tell you about the result.
3. Through online chat I gave my IMEI to HTC middle east and they told me that my Software Version is 2.34.401.2.
4. " fastboot getvar all" works.
5. You said "if your OS is wiped then any RUU flash will reformat your partitions". Can we be sure that it is wiped? If we can not be sure, is it necessary to do wipes and formats?
6. I was on Lollipop. 5.0.2.
Since you never unlocked the bootloader before, flashing the stock rom(ruu) should work. Give it a shot. Just make sure you flash the same Android version that you had before as downgrading might not work.

1. That's fine. For now it's OK that it's locked. It's only if your stock recovery is gone that you would need to unlock the bootloader and reflash the stock recovery zip file that you would need to find and flash. Hopefully it's still there just inaccessible for now.
2. Just an idea to verify your recovery is still there
3. OK then that's the firmware you want to flash or higher version
4. From that it should have your CID and version ID but if it's corrupted or wiped it may not show. Those 2 are what you usually use to verify the firmware your flashing is the correct version for your region. You can also verify your radio ID as well as most firmware zips show those numbers as well.
5. It's OK an RUU file will reformat everything and bring it all back to stock. It has all the images in it (radio, system, recovery etc.)
6. That's good. Just make sure you flash that version or higher as going down in firmware isn't possible without S off. If you flash the wrong firmware then the signed RUU shouldn't flash.
Also what region are you in ( India, Asia, Europe?) your phones firmware (CID is your carriers region) that you flash needs to match you're CID.

1. I don't know it's still there that's why I used the word "hopefully. " You should be glad that you can still get into your bootloader because without that access your phone is an expensive paper weight. Thanks for the other info. It's exactly what you need to know to find and flash your firmware.

You said rename the file to "0P9CIMG.zip".
As getvar shows, my phone's exact modelid is: 0P9C70***
So what is the principle according to which the file should be renamed? that is, what characters of MID should be mentioned before .zip?

If "fastboot reboot recovery" cannot work, it means that I have lost stock recovery.
1. Am I right?
2. If it is not there, is it still possible to flash the rom? Or I must first flash the stock recovery?
3. Is possible lacking of stock recovery what prevents the phone from showing Yes or No page ("Unlocking bootloader?" page)
4. Is it possible just to flask stock recovery for now and leave flashing ROM to some time later?

1. Or it's corrupted but it could still be there.
2. Usually you need to flash back the stock recovery but I've heard of people flashing over their custom recovery with an RUU(rom utility upgrade) and the RUU replaced everything including the stock recovery which is in the file.
3. Not 100% sure on that one. The bootloader is a separate kernel provided with every Android OS so the recovery is separate from it. That one I can't figure out as when you were trying to unlock your bootloader you're firmware was fine at that time I assume. That's the strange part.

What is your "getvar all" information?
(Perhaps I can be able to give you some points.)
Hi people, this is my first time posting on a forum. I've always fixed my problem by googling them but now i failed.
I fixed the problem mentioned in the title and now i'm back to the original problem.
I followed a guide on the web to root my HTC 10. What i did was unlocking the bootloader and then flashing TWRP and till then things went good.
Then i tried to root it by flashing superSU and after that my phone went in bootloop and i found out i didnt have a system image anymore.
I tried to flash the RUU with my cid but i got the following error "RU_MAIN_VER_FAIL...".
This is my situation:
-i can access download, recovery and bootloader
-I've TWRP installed and my internal storage is blank, it only has an empty TWRP folder.
-My external memory has the following folders: Android, TWRP, .android_secure, LOST.DIR
What is my problem? I even tried to restore a TWRP backup without succeeding from https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/stock-stock-collection-recovery-ruu-ota-t3359297
Please help me!!

No I meant you can flash a custom rom instead of stock. If you want stock you'll have to run a stock ruu. What's your current software number and which ruu are you trying to run?

I've used this ruu 1.90.401.5 that has same mid and cid as my phone. And before wiping my internaL storage i had nougat, 7.0 i think. This ruu thing is really twisting my mind, never heard about it before today... maybe that's because i got in trouble. I've installed viper and the phone seems to work now but i have my doubts on whether to keep it or not. I'll try this so rom for a week, i want to see if it has battery or overheating issues.
But in case i wanted to go back to stock, i dont know what went wrong and why the ruu i've picked failed to install even if it had the same cid and mid.

If you had Nougat before, that means your firmware version is 2.x.x.x. This is newer than the ruu you're trying to flash. You can only run an ruu that is at the same version as or above your current firmware version, and you cannot downgrade. That's what I mean by "run an ruu that's the same version as your phone."
Get your software info by doing fastboot getvar all from download mode. Then find an ruu that is for your CID/mid and at the same or higher version that you have. That'll take you to stock.

It is definitely the right one, extracted from a 2.41.400.5 RUU by the user who shared this. As mentioned you should power up your phone normally and let the ota install.
If it's not happening that way then your ota file might be corrupted and I would suggest that you RUU back to stock if you can't boot into Android or your backup cannot be restored somehow.

That is the Nougat RUU for your device. You should be able to use this to get back to stock nougat and take OTAs to Oreo. Currently no Oreo RUU is available for the Indian version so this is the only route.
Just download the file and rename it 2PS6IMG.zip, place it in the root directory of your SD card and flash it in download mode.
