I have the 32gb variant, using the stock rom. I haven't even unlocked the bootloader. Why is the root of my storage almost full? I'm not talking about the internal memory partition.

That's ur system partiton. That is supposed to be like that. It contains all the system apps like system UI, Google play, etc.
U can't access it and usually it has very little space remaining.

Hi,
My Sony ericsson Arc S, become too slow because of the small space of the internal memory (it shows 376MB used & 44MB free)
All apps installed on internal memory are necessary and I don't want to delete any of them.
Also I can't download or update any new apps because the internal memory is near full
Help me guys!
My phone is not rooted & I use icecream sandwich 4.0.3
Consider rooting your device and moving some apps into the system partition to save up space in the data partition for apps.

What you suggest is to move the needed apps to system partition after the installation?
To root your phone look in the dev section look for post by doomlord for his easy root tools read post carefully follow all steps and you will have a rooted phone in no time.
It shouldn't go wrong but make a backup of sms, contacts etc
Once rooted you can use an app called titanium backup or root explorer found or link2sd in the play store these well help in cleaning dalvik cache, moving apps to system and move non moveable to external.
Need further help just ask here.

Yes
Some apps I moved are facebook, twitter, maps...
Anything that came with the phone and that take up a lot space and that can't be moved to the SD card.
And in case you run out of space in the system partition, look at flo95's junk apps thread to see what apps you can remove from ics without affecting your phone.

Ok kinda weird question, but hey I want to know. Scoured the other XDA forums n found nothing real solid. On our Inc2 through any recovery I've noticed partition SD card. What does this do? What are good numbers to use if done? Benefits if any? Thanx
It allows you to use sd external partitions for installing more apps. Gives you more data. Use an app like link2sd after you partition to create your mount scripts. Then you can use the app to create symlinks for things in your data partition. I have a lot of stuff installed that I would normally not have space for.

Only part that is kinda confusing, to me at least, is when it asks the amount of space used or size of the partition. Any idea whats a good starting point or set of numbers for an Inc2?

I used a 2 gb partition. I have a 32gb card installed. I think 1gb would have been good. I still have a lot about 400mb free on internal data and about the same on sd-ext.

I did the same as Un1c0de, 2gb on a 16gb card and same result. I dont even think I used a full gb. I guess nice to have in case I go app crazy. lol
I just installed CM10.2 on my i317 and was amazed how much left-over space there is in /cache and /system. Is there a way to repartition it so I can use that extra 1.5GB of space in /data?
So far, it looks like this:
/system - 1763MB total (444MB used)
/cache - 1259MB (110MB used)
Can I shrink /system down to ~768MB (for future updates like KitKat) and /cache down to ~512MB?
Um.. Anyone?
It seems that repartitioning is a taboo in these parts.

I wouldn't do it. This was more of an option for earlier builds where you needed to put part of your system on the sd. Unless the rom you want says to do it I wouldn't mess with it.

So, I'm stuck with 1.5GB of wasted, unused space. That sucks.

I haven't used cm11 but I believe you can change the size of your system memory. Either way when you leave a tw rom you gain something like 4gb of memory back.

Lol. If you want to use it so bad put your user apps on the system partition. Problem solved

Just installed CM 11 which is about 210MB (as a zip file).
According to my phone, the internal storage is only 5.41GB. I would have expected something like 8GB-5%. I dont know wthether it's always been like this...
Any ideas, explanation etc?
It's because of the partitons of your phone
It's still the same as stock the advantage is that you can put more mods or apps into /system
System partition is 1.5gb mine with all gapps installed is 800mb free
that's where yoor missing space is

i was trolling and theres no way to do anything to free space in cm as is thoroughly cleaned and free of bloatwares
Solution would involve changing partition size, but that's up to you to risk it or not.
How this work?
You change your partition sizes with adb but a lot of people hard brick their phones doing this. You can modify other people's repartition scripts from other phones to create an easily flashable zip file you can run in your recovery. We had to repartition the mi3w to increase system1 by sacrificing system 2 so you could install gapps with custom roms on lollipop and marshmallow. All in all unless you're experienced in adb and recovering bricked phones I wouldn't recommend doing it. Just buy a 64gb sd card for $16 from newegg or use a system app manager and just turn 5 gigs of your user apps into system apps (root needed).
