About
The linux-based open-source mobile operating system Android is not only the most popular mobile operating system in the world, it’s also on the way to becoming a proprietary operating system. How is that?
While the core operating system is still released as part of the Android Open Source Project, the majority of core apps are not. It gets worse: More and more libraries and APIs are only available on phones that run various Google apps pre-installed, effectively locking third-party apps to the Google ecosystem. For these reasons Android is described as being a “look but don’t touch” kind of open.
At this point, several popular open-source applications already require some of Google’s proprietary libraries to be installed. Increasing demand in the free software community in addition to severe problems in Google’s proprietary software discovered by the Android modding community, have led to the development of a free software clone of Google’s proprietary core libraries and applications - the microG Project was born.
Although most microG components are far from complete, users are amazed by the results. Free software users got extended application support, privacy-caring users can reduce or monitor data that is sent to Google and especially older phones can expect some battery life improvements. microG is not only used on real devices, but also replaces Google tools in test emulators and is even used in virtual mobile infrastructure.

It's not my work, but the project is too promising to be ignored. If you read between lines, you'll understand the purpose of this framework.
It uses modded Google APIs / Librairies to replace the Google Framework present on almost every stock device. This project is Open-Source and does almost the same job as Google Services, but it won't collect your data for suspect purpose or stalks you all day long. It also adds a minor improvement on battery life.
The main goal is to get rid of Google "bad manners" while enjoying Google features
You need to use a custom rom that'll support Signature Spoofing out-of-the-box :
- Omnirom (Working for me)
- Phoenix (Working for me)
- Liquid Remix (UnifiedNLP not registered in system but still works)
- CrDroid (Working for me)
- AEX (Supports SSpoofing)
- Validus (Working, UnifiedNlp not registered in system but location works)
- NitrogenOS (Supports SSpoofing)
- TugaPower (Support SSpoofing. Working, UnifiedNlp not registered in system but location works)
- UnleashOS (Doesn't support SSpoofing)
- Cardinal AOSP (UnifiedNLP not registered in system but still works)
- Resurrection Remix (Doesn't support SSpoofing)
- MSM Extended (SSpoofing Supported)
- Screw'd (Working for me)
Instructions :
- Wipe Cache - Dalvik - System - Data
- Flash the rom
- Flash MicroG
- Flash Magisk (optional)
- Flash NoVerity (if decrypted)
- Reboot
- Open MicroG Settings
- Make sure to tick all the checkboxes in "Self-Check"
- Configure Location Backends (I use Deja Vu and GSM but you can use the 4 together, depends on your choices)
- Tick Google device registration
- Tick Google Cloud Messaging
- Tick Google SafetyNet
- Open Play Store
- Connect to Google
- Once you're connected, Play Store shows RH-1 error, REBOOT
- You're good to go, enjoy your freedom !

Thanks very much been trying this out great, one quick question though... is there any way for Chrome to sync accounts with Google?
When in chrome and attempting to sign into the browser for syncing, MicroG takes you to a login page for your google account, however when adding the credentials in.. the wizard complains that the google account is already in use on the device.
Kind regards
Thanks for sharing. I need to try this!

NEWS 1.3b:
I have been testing 1.3b for a few hours now, I would
like to provide the following information and ask some
people to PM me in order to beta test it before I release it.
GPS: GPS now appears to work fine, I can get a lock within 5-10 seconds on first boot. I downloaded GPS Test(free) from market and tested, all OK!
Screen off during call: I included proximity sensor in this ROM to test the brightness sensor, which showed it does infact detect brightness. I then uninstalled proximity sensor app and tested again, furing call the backlight switches off after a few seconds!
Auto brightness: On first boot, the backlights of the keys (call, menu, home, end, etc) did not work. Go to settings, sound and display, brightness, turn OFF auto-brightness, click OK, brightness again, turn ON auto-brightness, click OK. The keys light and turn off depending on ambient light (I tested with a mag-lite)
Please test some of these things on the current 1.3 and give feedback.

Just flashed this but having a couple of issues:
- In navigator, view maps and navigation links don't work
- HTC Clock with weather (using current location) says weather data is not available, using 1.5 ROM in same location its fine.
Otherwise a great 2.1 ROM

You are right about the navigator, I seem to have broken that when I replaced maps with the multitouch version, i'll see if I can workaround that otherwise might have to switch out maps for the normal one.
As for the widgets I'm not sure why they wouldn't work, as you can see from my screenshot it's working fine for me and I use the same thing (current location), do you have a working data connection? It pops up about 5 seconds after fresh flash for me.

Yep, have working data connection and wifi, if I add the location manually it downloads the weather, but the same location using current location it doesn't

Try flashing one of the NetLoc files and see how you get on.
I'm not sure what the problem could be there, I made no changes to the widgets or network location, did you try any others where it worked?
As for maps, I have found the problem, but it doesn't seem there is an easy fix, the hacked multitouch maps by brut were renamed to "m4ps to allow installing alongside the normal maps. If we have both installed we can do everything we need, is that acceptable? or shall i go back to standard without multitouch? I have tried some hack and slash renaming of the app back to "maps" but i think theres some other stuff i missed and it just force closes every time.
If anyone knows of a working multitouch maps and navigation panel that allows nagivation outside US let me know.

Currently uploading v1.2
Changes:
Removed "Navigator" (sorry, I decided long and hard and went in favour of multitouch maps after finding it impossible to get them al to work together) If you want this back install it and normal maps from market and you can use all together perfectly.
MMS Fix: Preventative fix, some people mentioned MMS not working on other ROMs, I added MMSZap, a frontend by a dev from HTCPedia which you can use if it doesn't work then just uninstall.
Lots of APNs as per the request.
Added a couple of useful binaries.
Sleep fix: battery drain should now be much lower than v1.1.
Some other stuff I can't remember.

I have tried every mirror site I can think of and sendspace is the only one that will open on my ISP, it used to be a problem with DNS errors but it seems even with their IPs I can't get to them any more.
So, if anyone wants to upload mirrors I'll happily link them in the first post.
Once I get back to work tomorrow I can upload to any place you like with their 50Meg upload.

Also, the nightlies support LVM for partition remapping, which allows the two internal data partitions (/sdcard and /data) to be merged into one that uses emulated storage for /sdcard (Android's standard method for ICS and later). Details can be found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55081626&postcount=546 . LVM is significantly safer than other partition remapping solutions as it does not actually alter the underlying partition table. As a result, switching layouts is MUCH faster than methods which remap the partition table, and switching layouts is more reliable and doesn't fail in strange and difficult-to-repair ways (such as the frequent failures of another solution that can be seen in the ColorOS 2.0.2i beta thread). There's a good chance Oppo will be switching over to this method with a future ColorOS release, especially after their experiences with 2.0.2
For historical reference, I will leave the pre-nightly test builds in the Downloads section of this thread. However, these are now obsolete.
Gapps:

Omni only supports TWRP recovery, use any alternate recovery at your own risk. Official TWRP for this device is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2717916
Anyone flashing this should know the usual installation drill... Flash in recovery, flash gapps, wipe data/factory reset. If you don't know how to do these things, this package is not yet ready for users like you.
Thanks go to the following people for their help during bringup:

Current status as of 05/20/2014:
GPS works
Wifi works
Cellular radio works (data and voice calls)
Basic camera/camcorder functions work
Bluetooth works (tested with Google Glass and an OBDKey)
Sensors work (except for Google Camera Photosphere - see below)
Audio is flaky - Mic does not work in speakerphone calls (earpiece only) and headsets with microphones cause the audio HAL to barf. There are probably a number of other use cases where audio doesn't work well. Confirmed working are Google Play Music, Google Maps, earpiece calls, Bluetooth calls via Google Glass (Mic in speakerphone/headphones may be fixed in the 5/30 build - won't test until tomorrow.)
Not yet implemented (need to get the basics done first, these shouldn't be too hard since maxwen did them all on N1)
Screen-off gestures for music
"Hey, Snapdragon" voice wakeup - gotta talk to xplodwild about this
Superzoom mode (I'm about halfway there, it's in the 5/30 build but crashes when you take a shot, so effectively isn't really there...)
Known issues:
Rare spontaneous reboots due to the WCNSS firmware crashing (1-2 times/week for me)
Magnetometer (compass) gets "Stuck" if you use Google Camera
LPM (charging when device is off) is broken - device may charge but screen gets stuck on at the Oppo logo. (may sometimes happen when rebooting on charger)
Woot!
Here we go!
Sent from my OnePlus 7a
Finally a good vanilla build
My camera lenses produce a clicking noise everytime a camera app is closed. It didn't happen with color OS before. ¿is there any issue with it?

Since 7a also use F3 for double tap it should be as easy as adding

whats also the same is circle -> F4
the rest (F5 - F9) is different to the other oppos - actually we might need to filter them
out at the moment until we add support in the framework for them

BTW, what was the story behind https://github.com/omnirom/android_...mmit/0f6126a18e85e254d15421751abe78939beab1fd - were you getting a bunch of input event spam waking up the device during suspend? That's a problem I'm periodically seeing on this device.

Thats a little help to the "ear opening notification bar on call problem"
on the F5 it can take up to 500ms from screen off because of proxy
sensor until TS suspend is done - this filters out events during that time.
Its kinda hacky and doesnt solve the issue all the time but
better then before and little effort and risk.
We dont have the issue on the N1

Wasn't that a different patch?
I'm seeing a problem where the device gets stuck wakelocked processing lots of input event spam from somewhere, or it's not properly flushing the key event queue. It's intermittent - sometimes it's absolutely fine, other times it just goes nuts.

@vikasrockz Thank you so much for this, I am using it right now, it's the best custom ROM I have found so far.
Here is what didn't work for me.
* Recorder app doesn't work.
* The adaptive brightness feature is not stable, the brightness keeps moving up and down without a real change in the surrounding environment, its too bright most of the time
* Google Play Store and Google Play Services didn't update to the latest versions from the store automatically, I had to manually install the latest editions.
* I tried multiple MGC but they don't work when switching to front video, I still have to find a decent camera app.
* Night light doesn't work with DC dimming.
Other than that everything is flawless.

DC dimming will be removed. And for the camera we don't have yet fully functional gcam yet. But you can try BSG camera it works fine. And for play store and services o didn't had issues it got updated automatically with other apps as soon as I was connected to wifi
And the recorder app is working fine I was able to record audio without any error. What difficulty you faced tell [email protected]

For the recorder, try to playback what you recorded, for me, it didn't record any sounds and when I switch to phone mic it stopped recording.
I tried BSG camera (this one - MGC_8.1.101_A9_GV1n_ENG.apk ), but when I switch the video to the front cam it crashes.

If you are on miui, then go to twrp, wipe data cache, metadata and all except internal storage, if ur having rom on external storage like otg or sd card then u can wipe internal storage also. After doing all these steps. Then flash firmware file which is around 80-90 mb. Then flash rom. Then formats data and reboot.
Hi, thanks for the Beautiful ROM, I just installed it and it's perfect, much prefer it to CrDroid which was previously my only option for my device, due to this one being much cleaner with less bloat, just have a curious newbie question, what does unofficial mean in this scenario, and what exactly differentiates this ROM from a supposedly official Pixel experience Build?
black crush issue fixed in this rom?

To become an official PixelExperience there're some pre-requisites that the developer must accomplish. i.e. you can't create a ROM and put it to be "Official" even if ot wirks excellent, and there are a couple of requirements in terms of quality and rules that must be met before applying the ROM to be an official build.
If you're interested you can check and learn the details at this URL: https://github.com/PixelExperience/official_devices/blob/master/README.md

For being official build there are some rules to be followed by Pe team that's it. No difference between unofficial and official. Unofficial is way better because we can add some extra tweaks and features from our side but in official we have to follow rules and requirements for a device.
is this rom better than crdroid for daily use and battery usages?

I've used CrDroid, The Xperience Project and this Rom, Performance is honestly nearly identical, my battery was best on the Xperience Project and worse on CrDroid, nevertheless I'm gonna keep using this as on Xperience I couldn't change my bootanimation to the Pixel one, where as this Rom uses comes with it out of the box and both Xperience and CrDroid had some preinstalled apps I deemed unnecessary and had to root my device to remove
I really like the rom but I find the AOD (ambient display) somewhat bright. The black doesn't seem like AMOLED black. It's backlit.

Blame Xiaomi for cheap display panel.
Great rom, probably the best I've tried, couple problems tho. First, as someone else said, google recorder app is not working. What I found out is that its not because of the app, it has something to do with the mic itself. Most voice recorder apps work fine but some don't. Same thing happened on crDroid as well. Second, the display doesn't switch to P3 colour mode when for example watching HDR on youtube. You can see the display going into high brightness mode but colours are not switching. Same thing in google photos with wide color gamut pictures. This tho, works fine on other roms I've tried.
One more irritating issue, probably due to a cheap digitizer not this ROM, whenever I'm trying to record a voice message on Whatsapp it deselects the mic button and interrupts the recording (as if I have moved my finger away from the screen)
I'm using LineageOS on my phone.
Why hasn't anyone come up a way to use Google Play store apps without Google Play Store being installed? Something like that would be a 2 bit Crack in Windows. Why is it harder in Android? Shouldn't it be easier since Android is (sort of) a distro of an open source OS? What makes it so rediculous is that GPS is only needed for in-app ads and has nothing to do with the app itself. Most of the time, the app DOES work anyway for me, but a few apps that I really want to use, don't. Do the apps just look for a flag somewhere that indicates that GPS is installed, or do they actually communicate with the GPS?
I'd love to the crack myself, but very sadly, I'm not a programmer. I wanted to be but I couldn't even handle Visual Basic, forget about a serious programming language like C whatever or Python. Maybe I should try one of those coding for idiots classes that are all over the place. Apparently they teach programming a different way than how it's usually taught? I guess I'm not capable of learning programming the normal way.
I rarely use Playstore. You can use another phone to install the app on then make an installable copy with Apk Export. I backup all my apps like that. Makes reloads and repairs much easier and quicker.

You *can* use Play Store apps without GPS, it just depends on the app itself - if the app doesn't use any proprietary Google Play Services APIs, then it'll work fine.

Not really, since Google Play Services is closed source and proprietary, and the apps which use these services are also generally closed-source.

GPS are used for several features, such as (and not limited to):
- Push Notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging)
- Location services (fused location provider)
- Account authentication (Google Sign-in / Firebase Authentication)
- In-App Purchases and Payments
- Maps (if using Google Maps APIs)
- Gaming (syncing save data to cloud, achievement tracking etc)
- Analytics (Firebase Analytics)
- Device certification / root detection (SafteyNet)
- ... and much more

As mentioned above, GPS provides several features and functionality missing from stock Android (AOSP). It's not just a dummy flag.
To get back to your original question, there are a few solutions:
1) Use microG - it's an open-source reimplementation of various GPS APIs. It's a work-in progress, so only a few features work, and some features will never work (such as IAPs). But depending on the apps and features you use, it might just be able to meet your requirements.
2) Switch to GrapheneOS, which supports running Google Play Services in a Sandbox, with limited privileges and potentially lesser battery drain.
3) Stick to open-source apps, as these tend to avoid using proprietary Google APIs. These can be typically found on the F-Droid store.
4) In addition to #3, consider switching to an easy-to-use de-Googled ROM with a working set of essential apps/functionality (such as location services and push notifications), that work fine without GPS. Examples of these ROMs include CalyxOS and /e/ OS.

But there is: Aurora
https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.aurora.store/
All the stuff that the Google Play Store has but without the need to login.I have met only few apps that don't work - some ****ty apps like ebay enforce Google Service Framework GSF.

Sound like an amazing rom, gonna test tdy
So far so good! Got the phone rooted, payment apps are working, and performance is amazing. Tons of customization scattered throughout the settings. The optimized charging in the battery settings is extremely useful as I normally have my phone plugged in when I go to bed. However, I have noticed that the battery percentage doesn't decrease by each percent but by multiple percentages, is it just me? Overall, amazing ROM. gotta compare the battery to Lineage and Crdroid, but so far, a very promising daily driver ROM.

How was the haptic feedback ?

MB I COMPLETELY FORGOT. Yes, I noticed that the amount of haptic feedback when changing volume, alert slider modes, brightness, etc. was much more intricate than other ROMs such as lineage and crdroid. For example, there is a buzz and vibration for each level changed when changing volume (which other roms don't have).

Nice. It's exclusive to nameless rom and we have a lot of haptic customisation in sound and vibration setting
Heats alot. Even when the phone is idle, heats alot when using Google maps , can't even put the phone in my pocket.

I think that's an exaggeration, but I have noticed that sometimes, the phone does get warm on idle. Not really a problem for me because I live in the north.

Could you tell me how to get L1? Either I am unlocking the bootloader incorrectly or something because it's always downgrading to l3 when I unlock OOS12.
