Hi I am running a Nougat Rom that I am happy with for the moment but was wondering if it would be advisable to update to the new firmware anyway? Can you run a Nougat rom on the Oreo firmware and is there any benefit of doing so?
Thanks

No you can't run a nougat rom on a oreo firmware.
Oreo firmware is for Oreo ROM, and currently there is no downgrading again. If you are staying on Nougat, DO NOT upgrade the firmware.
what about using asop oreo rom ???

Just don't update if you don't need to. If you want to use OREO roms you update otherwise stay on nougat. Don't mess with the firmware if you don't need to.
if iam in oreo rom and then want install custom rom etc sundream rom basically nougat rom, must install nougat firmware too?

Issues will occur indeed, keep firmware and roms matched

So, as I understand. This phone works similarly in the way the Moto G did in the sense that the Firmware and the actual ROM are seperate?
firmware controlling things in the background and the ROM being front and center?
Theoretically speaking, I could run Lineage 14.1 with HTC MM Firmware AND Nougat firmware? (Obviously not at the same time)
Only reason I ask is I come from a G3 which requires TWRP and all roms to be "Bumped" so things are a bit different (No bootloader unlock)

If you read the LOS installation instructions you see that it support both MM and N. Supported firmware depends on the rom, though many roms will ask you during installation which firmware you're running and support both.

So what are the advantages/disadvantages of using either mm or nougat firmwares? Do they effect anything realistically?

Nougat firmware could have more advanced radios for improved signal.
A caution: don't mix Marshmallow and Nougat firmware bits, such as aboot.
I did that and ruined a perfectly good Ten.

So like flashing a marshmallow aboot to a nougat firmware?
If so I wont even be bothering with that stuff.

The Nougat update gave a performance boost.
And staying up to date with firmware is always a good idea. Google is releasing monthly security updates now.
Hey guys!
I have upgraded to oreo a while ago, but battery doesnt seem to be as good as on nougat. I looked up a few posts but i am not sure which one to believe. Is there a good method on how to go back to nougat?

I don't see the difficulty, flash whole nougat oos, or for a custom ROM flash a Nougat firmware + custom ROM.

Latest TWRP, always
If you flash full Nougat OOS ROM no need to flash firmware

Where did you read ONLY? It's Oreo compatible. That's all. By definition a software is backward compatible except if expressly specified in changelog. Which is not the case here.
You've got all you need. Experiment now.
Hello,
I'm considering going back to the stock ROM in my moto z play XT1635-02 retla1st but I would like to know if I would have a problem installing the RETAIL version when receiving OTA's or some other problem.
I currently have the bootloader unlocked and a compilation that is not the official one but I want to remove the root and receive the updates without any inconvenience.
best regards

I do not know if you can downgrade from a 7.1 ROM to a 6.x Stock via RSD and have your phone usable. With some phones if you downgrade to MM you brick it.
If it survives, you would then need to find a way to lock the bootloader.
In the same Android versión it's possible install a retail ROM?

I believe if your phone (bootloaders) is 7.x you can RSD 7.x and if phone is 6.x you can RSD 6.x .

I used this guide today, it worked without any problems. I went from rooted 7.1.1 stock september security patch to 7.1.1 stock november security patch with locked bootloader. OTA december security patch worked as well. I even unlocked the bootloader again and am now rooted with magisk safety net passing

Yeah I have same question. Right now I'm on Pie FW just because of Pixel Experience ROM. I want to try Havoc OS but it's using Oreo FW. Is it possible to flash Oreo FW safely? And which variant? Just asking because I have ARB no. 4 and I'm little bit scared of brick. So anyone? Thanks

no need, FW always overwrite files, (that's why it's possible to downgrade FW)
just one thing to keep in mind :
some A11 dev recomand using A10 FW to be able to use 5GHz frequency in WiFi
ask the dev of the rom you want to use about the FW if you plan to use 5GHz ...
