Market won'r update to Play Store - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I hate to stir up the peaceful quit environment on the HTC Wildfire forums, but here's the problem
I've restored my old -still working- Wildfire to stock using an Arabic RUU. I need the phone to have Arabic language.
The problem is that the ancient Android Market won't update to Play Store automatically. I know I can just install the Play Store apk (Which works, I've tested it). But I want a way for it to auto-update as I'm going to sell the phone. Any ideas?
I just hope someone somewhere will open the Wildfire sub-forum and see my question

Hey man, whats all this noise in our quiet forum?
I don't know if this will be any use to you now but if I was you I would just install it manually and sell it. At this stage it is very unlikely that google will update the play store for gingerbread devices so any version that works is probably fine. your could always download one of the old gapps packages and remove any apps you don't want and then flash it from recovery to see if it helps but I don't think it will make much of a difference.
Now, back to that sweet silence

Who said anything about gingerbread?
It's on Froyo with the official ROM ?
Ironically, it's faster and more stable than CM7. The buyer of this phone is an elderly man in his 80s (my grandfather ?), I wanted the phone to be as stable as possible for obvious reasons.
Anyway, I installed the Play Store apk and gave it to him. It's very unlikely he'll do anything like uninstalling play store updates or formatting the phone. So all's good ?
Now back to peace and quite!

As requested, Google Ion ROM for Hero

I wondered if it would even boot, and it does.
I've chucked in a compatible WiFi module so WiFi works, but Camera won't, Bluetooth won't and I don't know what else might blow up! It's a starting point for an enterprising chef for sure and an interesting exercise. This ROM is using the stock Hero kernel.
Boy oh boy is it FAST...
Download link is at http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero-hero-modaco-com/292601/google-ion-rom-for-hero/#
P
Note: Ion ROM is 1.2 from here.
As requested in the MoDaCo topic, looks odd eh!

copy text via trackball
Could you please test if selecting and copying text via trackball works in this rom/device combination. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=557613
Realy interested if it is a kernel, hero or device issue
Cheers
Thanks for the rom.
Thought you didn't get my message (A)..
Great work!

i think thats because g1 ports are more "well-engineered", because the g1 is older.. if we wait some time, surely the trackball selecting will work
After trying this for a while, I have two main concerns:
-How can I install a given locale (more specifically Spanish)?
-Paul, when you publish a newer ROM with camera / BT support... will we need to wipe?
Thanks again for this, I'd been waiting for this moment since I got my phone.
Things that will need some work:
- Trackball
- Rotation
- Camcorder / Camera
But it's a beginning!
what is the difference betwwen google ion rom and the htc rom without rosie? (except that some things do not work in the ion rom )

The HTC rom has lots of customisations and apps different from ION's. Lots of them, really.
EDIT - headphone detection needs fixing too.
okay, so one can say, that the google ion is the pure rom? is there any device which runs originally the google ion rom?

As far as I know yes, it is. It's the one the HTC ION (also called Magic) runs.
Although I believe the Google Ion is just a Magic hardware wise, the device itself was handed out for free at the Google I/O Developers Conference, and had a different OS build to the shipping Magic devices.
Regards,
Dave
we are all rooting and flashing modified roms.. but where to geht for example the original updated (if any) Htc Hero Rom? i guess there will be updates for that... on the htc site there was not really something like that
That's the RUU package you will find linked elsewhere here. It hasn't been formally released by HTC yet, which is why you can't find it on the HTC website.
Regards,
Dave
I will not be working on the Ion ROM... I hope another chef will pick it up if they want it and work on compatability.
I just wanted to see if it'd boot!
P
Paul, you're right, its extremely fast. Wouldn't mind using the basic android as my default rom but I guess theres still a few kinks to work out. Liking it so far though ^^
Just so you know a newer ION image is available on the HTC site : http://www.htc.com/www/support/android/google-io-device.html

So is this?

Noticed today these popped up in the /cache of my phone, wouldnt the update be d/l to this location? no idea what they are could they part of a OTA they are starting to push?
Maybe nothing but figured i'd share just in case it is. how big would the update be you guys think?
I'm running Stock 2.1 rooted

What browser are you using? Have you downloaded any apps with your browser? I seem to remember having the same, maybe when I was using Xscope.....
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
You know, I got those same things. I didn't think twice and just deleted them. I wonder. . .
lol those are leftovers from downloading through any browser. i get those in my downloads folder whenever i downloading something through my phone's internet. You will know when you get the official OTA. nothing will happen to your phone unless you get the pop-up saying there is an OTA available and ask if you would like to download and install it.
Just using the stock browser, have not downloaded anything in quite a while, defanitly not on the 30th?
I though about deleting them but figured i'd ask, besides if they were cache'd data from a browser download why would they be packaged?
Not saying i have something but just found it peculiar they are all packaged and in the root cache where a ota would show up right?
Looks like one is missing ?
OTA doesnt download anything until you approve it.

I believe it actually downloads the OTA and stores in cache before it prompts you. Don't quote me though, I've been wrong before lol

i did the 2.0.1 to 2.1 update on my wife's droid, it didnt download anything until after you approved to do the update. you can also see with the EVO froyo updates, it asks if you want to update over 4g/mobile/wifi or just wifi.
I had no idea what it was but I though maybe they were incrementally pushing pieces or something, I'm new to android, I figured it would probably be nothing but didnt want to delete something that could help someone.
If you think about it, if they pushed a few small pieces to your cache and the the last piece could parse it all and install it wouldnt that save alot of bandwidth for them? or at least even the load? Thats what made me ponder what it was. I'm sure its not browser cache or it wouldnt be a .apk it would probably be a sql db wouldnt it?
I tried to copy them to the root of my sd card but it wouldnt let me for whatever reasonthrough root explorer. maybe i'll copy them out over adb and extract the .apk just to see whats in it, That should tell me.
Anyway figured some other insight would be nice.

I thought someone from Unrevoked said on twitter to the evo users if you get the ota message to upgrade dont do it and the upgrade file would be stored it the root cache? heck iono i've slept since then.
I believe those are failed or canceled .apk downloads.
Why don't you just copy them to your pc and take a peak inside the apk with 7zip?

so they wont allow users who opt out of a data plan and or dont have wifi to update?
RUUs are leaked and shouldn't normally be open to the public. If they were they'd be on HTCs website (like with their WinMo RUUs)
Guess you cant always trust a telus rep, they told me that the update would be downbloadable from a pc if i didnt have internet access for my desire. (ive been prodding tech support for 2 weeks now trying to get info on when the update is)
I don't see the point in posting the ROM. What would be needed in it that we don't already have or use? Plus if I wanted to do the update that would mean downgrading back to 2.1 and then upgrading.

He said he is interested in some config files, no idea what for. Can you even post just a rom from your phone? Wouldn't you need to extract it from the RUU?
The RUU would be nice though, I'd like to know what radio Telus think we should be running. Obviously it would also be good to flash the phone in a way that masks the modifications made if we need to return it.

I am on Fido and I got an update notification on my HTC Desire (I had 3G on, and Wifi off). I'll update later how it goes.

Wait, you're saying it lets you flash this non Motorola signed update.zip from stock recovery in the Chinese ROM?
If that's the case... Couldn't you just prepare an update.zip that adds root privileges, and flash it the same way?

All you chinese XDA'ers now have a new mission: Track down the source of that update.zip!
It's probably come from Motorola.

Yep... probably. But why would they first send out a stripped/de-googled (read: crippled) firmware, and then post the update.zip?
Can anyone try and create another update.zip that will flash successfully on this ROM? If so then it opens up mega possibilities.
If this is truly signed by Motorola, maybe it's because Google isn't on good terms with the Chinese government, so Motorola created a backdoor way to get Google Apps on the phone.

Will this update work on device sold in China,PRC?

P.S:
1.What does the 2.51 or so for the roms mean?Don't think that's calling the rom, since 2.3 hasn't arrived yet.Affraid of bricking my device,I didn't attempt flashing blindly.

I got the same message today but I know exactly why I did. Something changed or modified your google play services app. I am running ZoneROM - 09.17.14 - D85110M - DeODEX with G3 Tweakbox (the latest that was pushed out today) and decided to try one of the themes that the developer warned us may or may not work lol. Needless to say after a reset I got that message. After I uninstalled the theme and set is ALL back to stock and gave it another reset the message came back.
The only fix (that worked for me) was to dirty flash the rom and wipe dalvik cache and chache afterwards. Hope this helps!:good:

Yeah all this started after I installed the latest g3 tweaksbox and messed with the themes. I restored to a nandroid backup but the issue continues. Wtf this is crazy
This doesn't make any sense. I flash back to a much earlier backup and the popups come right back once i try to update apps in the Play Store
I am getting them to. Didn't switch anything up that I can think of..
I started getting this message when i switched to the google keyboard. Switched back to lg keyboard and it went away.
Ok is definitely the Google play services update is to blame. I did a factory reset. Everything was fine until I updated the Google play services plug in again. Instantly the popups returned
I had these issues until I disabled "Disable Location Consent" in xposed. It does not play nice with the new play services yet.
