What browser are you using? Have you downloaded any apps with your browser? I seem to remember having the same, maybe when I was using Xscope.....
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
You know, I got those same things. I didn't think twice and just deleted them. I wonder. . .
lol those are leftovers from downloading through any browser. i get those in my downloads folder whenever i downloading something through my phone's internet. You will know when you get the official OTA. nothing will happen to your phone unless you get the pop-up saying there is an OTA available and ask if you would like to download and install it.
Just using the stock browser, have not downloaded anything in quite a while, defanitly not on the 30th?
I though about deleting them but figured i'd ask, besides if they were cache'd data from a browser download why would they be packaged?
Not saying i have something but just found it peculiar they are all packaged and in the root cache where a ota would show up right?
Looks like one is missing ?
OTA doesnt download anything until you approve it.

I believe it actually downloads the OTA and stores in cache before it prompts you. Don't quote me though, I've been wrong before lol

i did the 2.0.1 to 2.1 update on my wife's droid, it didnt download anything until after you approved to do the update. you can also see with the EVO froyo updates, it asks if you want to update over 4g/mobile/wifi or just wifi.
I had no idea what it was but I though maybe they were incrementally pushing pieces or something, I'm new to android, I figured it would probably be nothing but didnt want to delete something that could help someone.
If you think about it, if they pushed a few small pieces to your cache and the the last piece could parse it all and install it wouldnt that save alot of bandwidth for them? or at least even the load? Thats what made me ponder what it was. I'm sure its not browser cache or it wouldnt be a .apk it would probably be a sql db wouldnt it?
I tried to copy them to the root of my sd card but it wouldnt let me for whatever reasonthrough root explorer. maybe i'll copy them out over adb and extract the .apk just to see whats in it, That should tell me.
Anyway figured some other insight would be nice.

I thought someone from Unrevoked said on twitter to the evo users if you get the ota message to upgrade dont do it and the upgrade file would be stored it the root cache? heck iono i've slept since then.
I believe those are failed or canceled .apk downloads.
Why don't you just copy them to your pc and take a peak inside the apk with 7zip?

Hi guys, first I am really happy to see a DEFY section in XDA !
Well, there are many apps in Tmo(usa) defy, I have rooted it by using Z4 root.
Can anyone show a list of useless apps that I can safely remove ?
Thx a lot!
Here's a screen cap of my removed apps folder. I've had no problems at all since removing all these apps.

If anyone knew what all of them did that would be excellent. Not sure I'd want to remove 'Browser' before knowing what exactly it is it browses.
Damn that's alot!!
Thanx for the list. I would like to clean up as well, but like to first know what certain packages do, especially as I have not seen them popping up anywhere:
ArcPhotoworkshop
ArcVideoEditor
esmusica
This Kodak Perfect Touch thingy
hiphopofficial
revolver
truecountry
Is there a good way to find out which packages depend on other packages and/or services ?
all of them - use asop 2.2 custom rom

How to reinstall them?
If I uninstalled them via Titanium backup. I made a backup before uninstalling them but if I try to reinstall for example: Wi fi calling.apk via titanium backup nothing happens.
I already wiped the phone but the apps are not there anymore. How can I restore them?

You do realize you're in the Defy forum and there's no such thing?
can you tell us how you removed all those apps once the phone is rooted? Can't seem to find anything on removing the bloat... just lists of what people have removed.
Thanks

I thought I had it figured out but alas I still stomped.
You'll need to install a File manager that can access root directories and then delete the APKs using that.
The most popular one is Root Explorer. Try searching for it in Market.
maybe this will help someone out there/dev? in getting back
to stock froyo from the ota gb update..?
ive tried it myself im on stock ota gb 2.3 & i renamed it PG32IMG opened my bootloader it read it completly but after it tried to flash it said "main version is older..FAILED" or something like that..
heres the file just download it and rename to PG32IMG
maybe someone can get it closer to where i got it
PG32IMG_RUU_Vivo_W_VERIZON_WWE_1.34.605.4_Radio_0. 99.01.0225_2_NV_VZW1.92_release_182876_signed.zip

No, this is a Froyo ROM for the DI2.
I'm not telling anyone to try this right now but, shouldn't you rename it to update.zip, place on SD card, and apply update.zip? Since it is official HTC firmware, I don't see why it wouldn't work. But then again, I've never owned an HTC device in my life so.... yeh.

if you are rooted with s-off the idea may work, but coming from a stock 2.3
gb us folks dont have s-off nor a recovery so its not possible for that unless
somehow we can get s-off and root,it was just a test i wanted to try and and see
where it would go
Yeah but can't you do it from stock recovery? My Fascinate was able to do something like this as well but on not so sure about HTC devices.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA Premium App
Its an RUU not an update.zip, it will not flash through recovery.
You can't flash it because you can't downgrade without temp root.
On the inc 1, we have RUUs that can be flashed in hboot. I think that's the gist of what he was saying?
Shipped ROMs
I downloaded the the Dinc2 Froyo from Shipped ROMs, ran the exe and while the RUU was asking for the connection, I went to my C:/_TEMP folder and found the data1.cab was 317 mb. in a folder with 22 different language .ini files.
the rom.zip was 313 mb.

I think this is the one to rename to what the stock bootloader is looking for.
I don't have my DInc2 yet but if it comes with GB forcefed on it, I will try this..
If u change the file and rezip it wont flash cause its not signed lol. Dont waste ur time trying little tweaks they have already been tried..

Trying to push system odex files, from a different ROM to my current. I've fixed permissions, etc. I can't get it to install. Btw, its the sense clock widget. No matter what I do, I can't find it in the widget list. Even after a reboot. What am i missing? The ROMs are compatible, same Sense version. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

So you are trying to push the HtcClockWidget.apk from your pc to your phone? Have you tried using a file manager to move the file to the app folder?

Have you set group and owner to root? Actually pushing from a pc should give it the correct owner and group, using a file explorer wont. Other than that im not sure why it wont show up.

Try downloading the file above again and flashing it. I have made a couple additions to it that may be needed for the widget to work.

Thank you, but I just restored a nandroid. I was trying to get the EVO classic minimal flip clock on my current hybrid. I'm gonna look at the EVO mikg hybrid. It got a theme with the same clock.
Edit: Just did it the hard way. I just replaced all the .png files and pushed.

So phone is rooted with CWM.. Got system update and went to install now and it rebooted,, It went into CWM and it sayd package failed, it will nto update.. any ideas? Help!!!
Thanks
Phone is Stock Rooted with CWM
You have to be on stock firmware(no root, busybox, or cwm/twrp) and have stock recovery, otherwise the install will fail.
Use the search button.
As a summary if you have a custom recovery, you can't install system updates.

I hate it when people don't educate themselves about rooting and the downsides and upsides, before doing it.

Yes I get that, I found it odd that it still said there was an update avail, Other Phones never did that anymore once they were rooted....
SO if that is the case, Is there a way to stop it from updating so i do not get that message anymore?

Just accept the update and let it fail henever the notification comes up. Thats the only way to get rid of it, at least until it decides to pop up again.

just select "Do not show next time" and allow it...You won't be bothered anymore...Although i am not sure why is the app asking for permission...Have u denied any permission to the app or sumthin coz it should not ask u to grant permission for this...
I tried all the combinations and nothing changed. Still popping up. Same happens when Im taking picture with Facebook messenger, every time asks me if it can use the camera.
That's weird, I've never seen that before on my phone. Is that a built in Android thing or is it one of the Asus bloatware apps?

Perhaps its that antivirus that Asus included. I uninstalled that right away, as it let me do so.
What antivirus?! I didnt install any of that crap. I found that this happens on zenfone 5 and there is a fix for that.
EDIT. What is the latest firmware? System update tells me is the latest version installed but I thing it isnt.
EDIT 2. Yep there is a newer version available. Ill try to install it and see if its happening again
