I have two of the 2X capacity batteries from Perfine with included case. They're a bargain at < $25US, but the challenge is finding an external charger that will charge the batteries when they are outside the phone. Most chargers are either those "slot" chargers that only fit the standard size battery. Some others inexplicably put the contacts on the opposite side of where the V20 puts it. You have to put the battery in upside down to fit., so the extended battery is too thick to reach the contacts. The standard battery fits fine, even thought it needs to go in upside down.
I did find one generic charger on Amazon that almost works. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JZLHTHG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The drawbacks to this charger are that it charges extremely slow, and it does not completely charge the battery to 100%. It finishes charging at about 95%, regardless of how long I leave it on the charger. I could probably deal with the slow charging, since it's for an extended battery that lasts upwards of 48 hours, but would love to find one that finishes strong with a 100% charge. It's the only one that will actually charge an extended battery, so I still find it useful, but I was wondering if anyone has found one that will at least charge an extended battery to 100% charge.
Anybody find a good candidate?
Thanks

Alright, I picked up this setup a few months ago and I really enjoy the battery and the charger.. Well, I really don't like taking the battery out every day. So, my question is why does the phone stop charging at a certain point? Maybe I am not understanding when to clean the battery stats..
When the battery charges off the wall charger, it last way longer.. But when it charges over night through the phone, it doesn't last worth of a crap..
Can there be a change somewhere in the code, to let the battery charge longer?
your thinking of a sbc kernel or "trickle charging" by using one of these kernels you'll get what your aiming for although there are many reports of batterys frying or even melting. Ive never experienced any problems before though.
There are a number of available kernels that 'hack' the method by which the device charges. Use at your own risk, as there are potential implications for the life (and stability) of the battery.

If you search for "Superior Batter Charging" or "Super Battery Charging" kernels, you will find a number of them, including a number of disagreements regarding their implementation.

So does the wall charger trickle charge the battery like the hacked kernels?
Will the wall charger damage the battery like the hacked battery kernels, or does the wall charger have intelligence enough not to overcharge it?
There are countless different external chargers on the market, so there's no 100% accurate answer to that. Most external chargers are applying a safe charge in a similar manner as if you charged the phone directly while it was turned off. I don't know specifically of a dangerously designed charger out there, but I'm simply acknowledging that one could possibly be out there.
In the specific case of the linked product above on Amazon, the product description says,
Built-in overcharge protection

In fact, it says that is using a charge current of 350mA on the battery. That's very gentle, but also why a number of the reviews say that it takes longer to charge with it than charging the phone directly.

The wall charger is set to stop at a certain point. To all I know it doesn't overcharge. I know my battery lasts longer.

Sounds like a similar or identical charge when you turn off your phone and just plug it in.
It charges it more but will also shorten your battery life in the long run, though I'd assume it wouldn't be very dramatic. If you kept tabs on it you'd probably notice a significant difference in a couple months on which battery holds a charge better (phone on charged vs charger charged)
I found a good combination for me was to get the HTC extended battery and use a Kernel that is less power hungry (such as chad's incredikernel).
With a silicone case around the extended battery, it really is a nice setup.
But whatever works for you, the battery swapping would drive me insane though.
my captivate is v2.2 froyo rooted w z4 and lagfix, My stock battery barely lasts me through a night at work,
I ordered a 3500mah battery from ebay and when i received it I charged it overnight with my phone off....
The next day was a miracle! Battery stayed at 100% for 2 hours, by the end of the day I still had 60% battery left!
I read that the first couple charges need to be cycled so i tried to drain the battery by playing a movie over and over with screen brightness and volume at max.....
the battery lasted forever, after getting it down to 7% I charged it overnight- sameway with phone off, but now nomater what i do it only lasts the length of a stock battery.
I tried unplugging, plugging back in, phone off , phone on, waiting hours after it says 100%(on charger overnight) and tried ac and usb charging, but it just isnt seeming to charge all the way.
I was going to buy a second extended battery and an external battery charger but all the external chargers i see on ebay say are only good for li-ion batteries up to 2000mah, plus i had to modify my otterbox defender case to support my new battery and it would be a pain to have to take case apart everytime i swap batteries.
Ive been reading for days about what to do to no avail, all the external chargers i see arent rated for 3500mah capacity and I wouldnt mind flashing a custom rom that would support extended battery charging but the more research i do the more confused i get.....
Is there a kernal out there that is stable and supports charging these batteries with no bugs or issues????
What custom rom would be best?
please help......
any info is greatly appreciated
there is no such thing as a rom that supports extended batteries
the phone does
the chargers ALL work for the extended batteries there is no capacity rating limit on them. they do have a charging rate but it is around 350 to 800 mA/H and the batteries are acutally around 2500 mA so devide 2500/500 is 5 hours to charge.
[Review] 3500mah extended battery pictures heres my review - and would have been a better place to post and ask.,...
Cheap Chinese Battery Charger heres my charger. works fine.
[Mod] Battery Charger - USB Upgrade Mod heres my charger mod to charge faster thru USB. 800 ma/h so under 3 hours for extended,
charging on the wall charger or thru the phone takes longer than a regular battery.
charging thru the phone on USB is faster with the official samsung or with a hacked usb charger like above
i get upto 60 hours out of my battery. - under volted properly and custom kernel options..
you may want to wipe your battery stats. but i switch back and fourth no problem.
or your battery has a bad cell. those extendeds are just 2 batteries linked together.

there as an app in the market to wipe battery stats I forgot what its name it might be helpful to you since you're on stock froyo. probably your phone battery stats was in line with your oem battery so to maximized your extended batt you will have to wiped out the current battery stats for your phone to adjust to your new extended battery. I will post the app name later if I could find it. since you are rooted it will be of use to you.
edit: ok I found the app it's called battery calibration by nema download it from the market give it a whirl and observe how it goes..
i remember reading about such an app for rooted phones on a different forum but someone replied saying that it would wipe battery stats but still wouldnt help since the phones stock software is written to only charge a battery to 1500mah then it stops charging.....
Do u think it would work or am i screwed unless i flash a new kernal?
would be worth a shot.......
Is it best to wipe battery stats when extended battery is drained b4 charging.... or when fully charging .... or does it matter?
thanks guys for the fast responses!.....
so any of the chargers that fit my battery should work then.... they have the same specs as yours... so i will go ahead and order one for now,
I guess the surest way to know i am getting full charge would be to use the external charger...
So an extended battery should fully charge in the phone with no issues? Ive read so many forums that say a custom kernal is only way to charge them 100% in the phone???
no.. to charge at 100% speed. and i havent heard of any kernel for that in the captivate forums...
ie using the official samsung charger (usb) will charge at full speed the one that comes with your phone is 750 ma/h. if you plug into a non official charger the phone will only let in about 350ma/hour through the usb. or hack it.
i have the usb that came with the phone.... so i will get 750ma per hour if i connect usb to computer only or it will charge that fast on the samsung wall adapter also?
the wall adapter only!
the phone has to see the official CHARGER to charge full speed. or hack the other CHARGER, other wise it charges at what it calls "usb" so charging using usb would be slower too. if you read the [mod] link above, or all the other times i said CHARGER above, you would understand,
alright....thanks bro
charging via usb from your pc will always be slower than using a wall adapter.
not true.
aftermarket chargers (not samsung) wont charge the phone any faster than the pc
....unless you mod it!
[Mod] Battery Charger - USB Upgrade Mod
unless the middle 2 pins of a USB cable or the charger itself has the 2 pins shorted the phone charges in USB mode 350ish mA/h with the OEM chargers or a modded charger it charges in "AC mode" upto 1100 ish mA/h
the charger that comes with it supports this mode but only 750mA/h max output.
....
.......
....
ya.....
Hi all,
I've read, I've searched. Both here and on google and haven't found anything so far.
Does anyone know if there is a desktop cradle that charges the device with the standard battery installed while also having a spare port in the back that will charge or accommodate the (for example) Hyperion 4200 MaH battery?
I found a few cradles that will accommodate the regular battery in the back but they're all slots. Years ago, when I had my Evo, there were charging cradles that also had the capacity to charge extended batteries, just trying to find something similar.
I would like to find something like this because I have enough cases that will accommodate the standard battery, but I also carry the extended Hyperion battery with me with their back case in case I run low. I'd like to know that the extended battery when I pull it out of the cradle in the morning has a full charge and I'm not walking around with a discharged battery.
Any help or advice would be most appreciated.
I have an LG Lucid which isn't half bad. Unless you factor in battery life.
So I'm ready to pull the trigger on a spare battery or two, as well as a wall charger. You know those ones that you plug the battery into itself.
Anyone have recommendations on an inexpensive, decent charger that will charge a 1800-1900mah battery within maybe 6 hours or so?
Thanks!
Oh- looking on amazon if I can, as I have a gift card.
I just did this for my S3.
I can't recommend one for your phone, but once you know what to look for, it's the same basics across all batteries and chargers.
Do you want it to charge slowly ? You say 6 hours, but that seems awfully slow to me. Is that the point - so you can leave it on overnight ? I have a charger that chargers my 2200mAh battery in ~4 hours.
Look for a charger that will charge at 600+mAh. Often it will charge faster if connected to USB. You want to avoid the ones that charge as slowly as 300mAh. I guess they're good if you want to leave something overnight, but they're going to take ~8 hours to charge the battery !
Anyway - no matter if you want it to charge fast or slow, just look at the mAh output and do the math compared to your battery capacity - you can even use a "calculator" that will do the math for you (but it's really easy - "2200 / 600 = 3.6" - so 3.6 hours, but with some wiggle room for lower than 100% efficiency).
I got mine from the brand Anker - they were one of the few that offered a charger that wasn't ridiculously slow. It's 600mAh from an outlet, 1000mAh from USB (meaning it could charge the battery almost twice as fast). It came with two spares and the charger. All the reviews I read didn't say great things about the "universal" chargers, and they all seemed to have lower rates of charging - but maybe I wasn't looking at the right ones.
In The Box:
The product comes in a simple, beige box that is wrapped in a sleeve. On the sleeve, there are specifications of the product and contact information. Once you remove the sleeve, you are greeted with RAVPower's slogan "Power To The People" on the top of the box and RAVPower on the both sides of the box. Along with the 16000mAh battery, RAVPower includes a warranty card, and a thank you card. Inside the box, there is two micro USB cables, a USB wall adapter, and a travel pouch.
First Impressions:
The battery is of great quality and the battery has some weight to it. The materials that the battery is made of attract almost zero fingerprints which is great. The flashlight is very bright for how small it is also. I thought the battery percentage indicator light would be difficult to read since all four lights are built into one, but it's actually fairly easy to read. I like how this battery came with a travel pouch. The travel pouch makes it easy for one to transport the battery, the USB cables, and the wall adapter at the same time.
Review:
Another great battery from RAVPower. This battery is great for someone who wants a battery that will charge their devices many times while not having to charge the battery frequently. With this battery fully charged, you could charge a device at least three times. This battery charged my Moto G (1STGen) from 0% to 100% in about 4 hours. One thing that I am not very fond of with this battery is that it takes forever to charge. This battery takes about 9 hours to charge from 0% to 100%. When charging this battery, do not expect it to use it anytime soon. I wish the battery charged faster, but it is 16000mAh so a long charge time is expected with this huge battery. Other than that, this is a great product that everyone should own. I would highly recommend this product.
