I currently have G3 D855 2gb variant running Lineage OS 14.1, running xposed with chromepie, adblocker, app settings, all notifications expanded. standalone appops with google apps blocked from wakelock and autostart (figured this would be problem for gmail and youtube, but i guess its not).
I've been experiencing app sync problems on data, usually mails.
When the phone is connected to wifi, it syncs immediately, whilst on data it syncs much later (gmail for example would notify me couple of hours later, sometimes even days), whether being plugged in or not
With aquamail I managed to reduce that delay with automatic checks every 15 minutes, but the thing, after leaving phone idle, overnight for example, in the morning it would say no access to internet since couple of hours after leaving the phone, but when I wake it up, it syncs up, while on wifi it syncs when the mail is actually received and showing the led notification in the morning. Tried leaving plugged in, same problem. Googled, but its always one specific app and version that has that problem, but the thing is, I experienced this on all apps, including whatsapp, on various roms.
Checked doze optimizations, enabled/disabled that, checked/unchecked restricted background data, tried alternative apps, tried various roms on nougat, marshmallow.
What gives?
Is this an actual problem or just the way how android works?
I have 1.5GB per month data plan, so data is not the problem, and when browsing, never had issues, in many occasions it worked better than on wifi.
I hope I have explained my problem to you.

I'm Running the Scoot CyanogenMod 6.1 (RLS5.5) on my Kaiser and whenever i turn on data it lags really bad, like Early alpha bad, and i've checked all the background running programs with noting out of place.
What it's wrong with it? i had another Rom and it did the same.
Are you sure that google apps aren't synchronizing anything in the background? Emails calendar events and so on. there's an app called autostarts in the market it has listed all the events and apps that are launched when a specific event occurs check it out. I had about 6 apps including gmail app assigned to turning on data event.
its nt app running in back ground issue.. its something to do with stock windows rom to be installed and radio version.. i read alot bout it here and tried many combinations too bt still cant figure it out.. everything works fine without wifi and data as soon as u turn on either of them system crashes off.. and performs a hot reboot
I just noticed that suddenly Google Services start using more data over the few days period. Previously it was not the case. Currently data usage is around 220 MB for 14 days, out of total 99 MB has been used by Google Services and all data usage is in background. I doubt it might be one of major reason, I start loosing my battery less than day.

Recently I did not install any new application which is main culprit of this.
For record purposes, I am using GSM 4.0.2
Waiting for your feedback.
Do you have google music syncing?
No. Don't have Google Music Sync
What does it list? Mine says 0 foreground and 1.04 mb in the background for an entire month. Listed is Bookmarks sync, account manager, services framework, contacts sync, network location.
Did you clear all of your contacts from your phone? Do you have a couple thousand contacts with pictures?
It mentioned contact bookmarks and all in background 100 Mb in 14 days.
Don't have thousand of contacts with photos only 20 to 25 max
perhaps any other things you are syncing? (google+ for example?)
Did you ever find out what was causing the issue? I've noticed the same thing recently and haven't been able to track down why Google Services is suddenly using so much data.
Backing up application data perhaps?

Tried turning that off and it didn't help much. Still on the same pace for data usage as zoobihoobi. Google services has used 100Mb in 7 days and last month it used 11Mb for the entire month.
Similar issue
I've gone from 3-5mb monthly to 80 in 6 days, an then it has tapered off again so that it's back to much the same. Any ideas?
I have the same issue here. 134 Mb consumed in the last 6 days.
I am constantly installing and updating apps, so maybe one of these apps is very hungry, but how can I check this out?
It's getting on nerves now....No way to find the culprit and usage data is increasing day by day....
Same here. 0 foreground data, 68M background data over the last 5 days.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Ditto here:
0.00 Foreground & 60.75MB in 7 days with no significant changes in apps etc.
Same issue here. Google services consumed, in background, 32mb in 5 days.
Galaxy nexus.
Possible Clue to the enormer data consumption
Hi,
I have the same problem with my G Nex. Went from about 5MB/month to 80Mb/week and 21MB used only yesterday.
I found a possible cause on the galaxynexusforum. I can't post links in this forum yet, so go to the forum and search for a thread titled: "problems with google services framework"
In this thread it has been suggested that it may have something to do with the syncing of the stock browser. And indeed, when I went to the sync setting, the only indicator of currently syncing was shown next to the browser. I deactivated it. I will report back in a day or two, if that was any help.
Meanwhile, maybe some of you want to give it a shot as well.

Well... Noticed as well. Google services now reaching around 300MB since 15/03 ... Something is not right... I have no syncing except Gmail (email, calendar)...
I have a problem like this before, some exchange services was using huge amounts of data and battery constantly...
What I did was disable my Exchange Mail accounts.. (remove them)... After I confirmed that was the problem, I re-added my exchange accounts and the problem hasn't reoccurred..
hey guys, am having serious problem from last 4-5 days. Apps on my galaxy n7100 are not working properly/completely when i use home wifi, i get below mentioned problems for specific apps:
playstore: check your connection and try again
facebook: error loading news feed, tap to retry
gmail: not syncing and even not updating , in other words not working
whatsapp: sometimes i get notifications for new messages/calls but sometimes not, and when i open the app itself i get the notifications
facebook messenger: unable to login, but once i login using any other wifi, now i get messages
similar things are with many other apps like pages manager, snapchat etc.
Hike is working fine! (indian messenger app)
i got this problem first time from facebook messenger, it wasn't loading new messages, then suddenly facebook stopped loading and finally play store and everything else.
i tried updating all apps, uninstalling and reintsalling these apps, uninstall and reinstall play store app completely [removed even factory version and used an olde backup i had on my pc to install it again] , but nothing worked!!!
is there any serious issue with android going on these days or what?
am using no proxy server nothing on my router, my PC and laptop are working fine over my home wifi, even many other apps are working on phone and internet is working, but the problem is with some of these apps. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Start with restarting modem, then turn off sync and see if something changes.
There is also option to turn off wifi power saving in service menu (it was somewhere in forum).
Go as close to modem as possible.

no change :/
i already did modem resetting, restarting and even allocated dedicated IP for the android device. but nothing happens, though i found a small thing, when i restart modem, things work and i get push messages/notifications for a very small amount time say 4-5 seconds thats it!
Has anyone experienced problems with some notifications? Just recently I stopped receiving push notifications for both Hangouts and Whatsapp? My messages only appear when I enter the app. I've even cleared the app data for Hangouts, uninstalled, reinstalled, and it solved the problem but only temporarily. I can't determine if it's a phone, marshmallow, or app issue. This is my first time on marshmallow and I've never experienced this before coming from KitKat on my HTC M8.
I've had the same issue since updating the OS software last week. Any help on this would be much appreciated. I'm not receiving push notifications for any apps anymore. All settings are turned on to receive them. I've even downloaded an app to push the notifications and it doesn't work.
Are you sure DND mode is not active?
Absolutely positive.
I managed to fix it through a whatsapp forum about not receiving push notification for that particular app. Hopefully this helps the OP.
When I got my phone I restricted background data on google services because it used 10gb of data within a 10 minute period of turning on my phone, mostly coming from that. For the first 2 months I was still getting push notifications for all my apps, but with the most recent OS update something must have changed it so the settings were no longer compatible.
So I re-enabled background data on google services and it started to work.
See if that helps. If not, I'm stuck on ideas.
Good luck an let us know how you go.
I was wondering if anyone had any problems with yahoo mail I only recently get emails notifications Wen I open the app I can't find anywhere in settings Were you can change sync every 5 minutes or so on I don't know what it's set at
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Hi,
I have a OP3 running OxygenOS 4.0.3.
The phone has been running without issues, but now I have one.
A couple of days ago I turned the battery saver on. Ever since then, for notifications, it is behaving like if it was in battery saving mode. So, I don't get gmail, outlook, facebook, ... notifications. Telegram is working tough.
In parallel, I've tried to set-up Google Prompt as 2nd step authentication and I'm getting the following error:
"It looks like you have a compatible phone, but it's not online. "
I can confirm that my phone is online and that I can browse the internet. Probably this has the same root cause as the notifications problem.
Any help?
Do a factory reset and setup your Google account again. Looks like the phone is not able to contact the Google servers.
Thanks for the answer,
The phone is capable of reaching google servers. If I open the Gmail app for example and refresh, it fetches my mails.
I think that somehow the problem is that applications are not accessing data in the background.
I have a similar problem. When I'm connected to wifi I miss and not receive some notifications. Even got me in a bind a few times with work. Uugh
