Can't Edit or Add Custom APN Cellular Profiles - LineageOS 13 - LineageOS Questions & Answers

Hi All,
I'm running this LineageOS 13 image on my Motorola Droid 4 phone:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-4/development/cm13-0-marshmallow-unofficial-builds-t3270938
If I try to edit or add custom APN profiles, when I save my updated settings, nothing happens. If I'm editing an existing APN profile, the profile disappears after I've supposedly saved the updated settings, and if I add new APN profile, nothing happens when I save. No new entry is added to the list of APNs.
I did some research, but I couldn't find a solution.

Anyone know what to do?

It looks like this happens due to invalid APN settings. From what I've learned online, it seems that the MCC and MNC vary by phone. Do NOT change these. If you enter invalid APN settings, the profile will not save or show up in your list.
In my case, the only APN settings you should change for Page Plus are the APN address (which for 4G LTE is tracfone.vzwentp), MMSC, and MMS Port. I still wasn't getting 4G LTE speeds after doing this, but after speaking to Page Plus support, they changed something on the back-end to enable 4G LTE, and I can confirm that I now get a 4G LTE connection as I should.
I think LineageOS should inform the user if the settings used are invalid. The UI doesn't make sense and is confusing.

I'm in the same boat with a Moto G4 and this drives me insane. I just want to edit my APN.

It actually looks like LineageOS won't let you add invalid or non-working APN entries. I would verify the information you've been given. The settings have most likely changed. Only valid APNs for your phone appear in the list, I discovered. Your entries might be saved, but they won't show up unless they're valid. That, or they're not saved at all even though it says they have been...
I wish they would let you know this as oppose to trying to add and save invalid APNs for hours...

My default APN doesn't match what my carrier's requierd APN settings.
But there is no way for me to modify the existing default APN entries and there is no way for me to create any new APN entry.
My Xiaomi Max 2 has been flashed with LineageOS 15.1 and stock GApps and everything is working great, except now I don't have mobile internet service because of wrong APN settings which I can't change.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Had the same issue, came up with a workaround that requires root access:

MMS Messaging for 3VOLUTION SERIES 3VO.1.40.070109 ?

I've installed the 3VOLUTION SERIES 3VO.1.40.070109 and I noticed that although I can configure the MMS settings in GPRS, I can't configure the additional options required in the MMS settings (per T-Mobile's instructions) as these options do not exist.
I also tried the ArcSoft software, although it installs it seems to be only designed for PPC's or Windows Mobile Professional as the menus bleed beneath the S621's screen size. Although I was able to configure it, I couldn't confirm my settings and exit the screen.
I also tried the later ROM, but I experienced too many issues with my Internet connections that I didn't experience with the earlier ROM.
Are there any options for establishing the required MMS settings with this ROM or is there a WM6 Standard version of ArcSoft that I could use to enable MMS settings to work?
Thank you,
Tim
what countries tmobile mms setting do you need? perhaps then we can help find you a solution. you should be using the 3VO.2.00.071809 release since it is the most recent and is nearly flawless. although ookba had made and additional settings cab for earlier version for mms setting. i'll send you the cab in a pm if you don't want to reflash to the newest version
I have T-Mobile USA, came over with my HTC-S621 from Suncom. The settings are configured in the 'settings, connection, gprs area'. But in the actual MMS area which is now threaded with SMS, there is no longer an option to input the required settings. The option just no longer exists... must be a 6.5 feature or something.
Thank you,
Tim
attached cab here since i couldn't send it to you.
Thank you! I'll try it out and let you know.

if it doesn't work you should reflash to the latest version and set you connection setting the tmobile usa. it should fix everything from that point. i got my phone in israel and the settings work fine with tmobile usa. additionally if you don't want to flash again reset you connection with the connection setup found in the start menu and restart your phone.
I installed the update, but the '3VO Settings Update.cab' file doesn't seem to address the missing MMS settings field.
Here are the T-Mobile instructions.
T-Mobile MMS Settings:
Setting up the data account <---- This portion is available for setup.
1. Tap Start.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap on the Connections tab.
4. Tap the Connections icon.
5. Tap Add a new modem connection under T-Mobile GPRS.
6. Enter PictureMessaging in the Enter a name for the connection field.
7. Tap to select Cellular Line (GPRS) from the Select a modem drop down list.
8. Tap Next.
9. Enter wap.voicestream.com in the Access point name field.
10. Tap Next.
11. Tap Finish.
Setting up the MMS profile <--- this part isn't available in the new ROM.
1. Tap Start again.
2. Tap Messaging.
3. Tap Menu.
4. Tap MMS Configuration.
5. Tap the Servers tab.
6. Tap New.
7. Enter PictureMessaging in the Server Name field.
8. Enter 216.155.165.050 in the Gateway field.
9. Enter 8080 in the Port number field.
10. Enter http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms in the Server address field.
11. Tap to select T-Mobile GPRS from the Connect via drop down list.
12. Tap to select WAP 2.0 from the WAP Version dropdown.
13. Tap OK.
14. Scroll to PictureMessaging and tap Set As Default.
15. Tap OK.
The new MMS profile is now configured and ready for use.
Any other ideas?
Thank you,
Tim
These are not present in the NRG27 Energy 6.5 ROM either. This is the first I heard of these setting too. Although that does not mean much since I have never used picture messages.
I just go to start/accessories and run the connection setup, set my phone to USA and T-mobile and it works as it should...my MMS messages go through just fine
Maybe posting this in the correct thread would be a good idea??
There is a "MMS Settings" selection in Settings.

I posted it here because once a thread gets as large as yours a post can get lost in the 'noise'.
I did look for a MMS Settings page under settings, but I can't find one. I also tried the Internet Connections Wizard but that didn't work for me. In fact, using that messed up my other connections.
I used my SbBackup to restore it back so that my Internet would work again. However, I really don't think it's necessarily your ROM, I think that perhaps my SUNCOM Sim Chip doesn't want to cooperate with T-Mobile or something.
But I was hoping to find the menu page to configure the settings in MMS to try again, but it seems in WM6.5, Microsoft didn't think they were needed.
I would just run into a T-Mobile store and see if they could help me, but I don't think they would want to help me since I'm not on a ROM that they'd customarily support.
With exception to the MMS, everything else is working great!
Thank you,
Tim

the reason why people think that a post will get lost inside of any thread is 'cause people don't search, or search inside a thread. If a thread has 100 pages and anyone has a question, but doesn't want to sit thru 100 pages, they should use the search this thread feature a the top, that's available when you're reading a thread, you do a search like any other time except this feature will only search inside the opened thread.
By making multiple threads with different questions about the same rom, app, system, bug, whatever, all it does when someone actually does a search, it gives them that many more results , that are gonna have to be read in order to find the answer.
That's the main reason for all of us to encourage everyone to please post questions on the proper thread, instead of making a new one.

[Q] APN settings are not saved.

So I successfully rooted and updated my phone through the method found in this post, but now I can't set any sort of APN definitions.
After I fill in all the configuration of my carrier, I press "Save" and... nothing. All I see is an empty screen with "APNs" written on top. Things I've tried thus far, with no success:
- Use the "Download settings for Internet and MMS" service (it tells me to go Sony Ericsson's site instead);
- Add an entry to the file "/system/etc/apns-conf.xml" (saves normally but nothing happens).
Does anybody know how to configure and activate APNs manually (i.e. without using the Settings menu)? Any other tip? I would be very grateful...
Progress... I've downloaded "APN Manager", and it allows me to see all the APNs I've added and supposedly weren't saved.
But now I don't know how to activate them... Using the "activate" function on the app doesn't work.
Help?
Problem half-solved.
If anybody cares, apparently it has to do with my old sim card and the way Android deals with APN settings - if the MCC and MNC numbers don't match between a profile and the sim card, that profile won't show up. Apparently my old sim card has some different values, because the newer ones work just fine...

[Q] Cyanogenmod 7.1 Issues

Good Day,
I have flashed Cyanogenmod 7.1 onto my phone 3 times with the same resulting problems each.
It looks beautiful but I have the following issues:
1)Does not allow data to come on. (wireless does work though)
2)Not sinking to HTC Sync/ google....so no contacts, or can't get apps downloaded.
Has anyone else had simialr problems? Because I am rather confused at the moment.
Still trying to work it out.
Any help much appreciated.
Regards,
rkdeane
Hi,
You might need to configure APN by yourself. Your provider's website should give you the correct username and password. For your other problems I recommend going to the Cyanogenmod forums for advice.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Data is probably an apn set up issue as previously said. Htc sync is for sense based roms only.
Sent from my Motorola Startac running Atari 2600 software!
1. Check the APN settings and make sure it's correct. Make sure data is enabled and you are not using 2G.
2. HTC sync will not work as it's not Sense UI I believe. Make sure you flash the separate add on for google apps so you get the market installed. Go to accounts and sync found under settings and sign in with your google account. That would download your contacts from google.
I hope this helps a bit with your transition from Sense UI to AOSP.
thanks guys,
How do you change APN settings manually...when I enter APN i just get a blank screen. The other section selects them automatically....in my case LIME Barbados.
I got some info from here with the inputs:
http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s/163023-apn-settings.html
But just can't find where to input it!!
Also, with wireless on, connected to internet....it doesn't let me login to the phone with my google account...which i find strange.
for trying to sync:
i go:
Accounts & Sync -->add account --->put in gmail name/password---->
then it comes up with
domain/username : \my name
password: *******
Server: gmail.com
when i click next i get: ''Set up could not finish.... Unable to open connection to server.''

Menu>Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names
There is usually something listed here already. If there is none then on this part
Press Menu>New APN
Then enter your settings.
Once you are done with the settings, press back button to save it. Then make sure you have the gree dot next to to the APN name on.
I'm such a noob. Thanks.
didn't think to press menu for any options...
oops
Ok so sorted out data...thanks guys.....eventually got requried settings....unfortunately still having that problem with syncing.

Picture messages

I keep trying to send a picture message and it says "service not available on network".
I cleared the cache and it fixed it before but now it won't work.
Any help would be nice!
How do I fix this?
Are you running stock or flashed ROM/Kernel?
Just so I don't leave you with nothing, here's a shot in the dark.
Changing some Access Point Name (APN) settings could help.
- APN to either epc.tmobile.com or fast.tmobile.com (whichever is not your current default)
- and or manually entering APN Types (ex."default, supl, admin, mms")
[These can always be restored to default]

OR.....
go to your settings, connections, more networks, mobile networks (turn off data), then select network more and choose LTE, then go to network operators and search now, wait a minute until it pulls up tmobile, then select it and reboot. Possible could be a bad SIM card, worst case, bad mother board, in which case it has warranty, good luck.

on cm11 nightly and no mms

On latest cm11 official nightly and MMS pictures just stay on "sending". Can't receive pictures either.
I am on straight talk att. apn is the same as always. i have disabled hangouts, but also tried with it enabled. done full wipes done this done that. nothing.
What is going on with this?
used stock cm kernel mpokang same issue

Go into: settings/more.../apn/mobile networks/access point names. Now delete all the apn's except the "StraightTalkATT" that has "tfdata" under it. Then go into the remaining apn, scroll down to "APN type" and delete what is in there (something like data,MMS,supl). Now save the APN and you're done. Of course this is assuming that you're using the APN with the "tfdata" setting, I don't know about LTE settings.
I dealt with the same thing and this was the solution.

I'm having the exact same issue on my mother's phone, on the latest (today's) official CM nightly. Everything seems to be working apart from MMS. She's on Tesco Mobile, I've checked the APN settings and they're definitely correct. I tried deleting the 'APN type' options and that didn't seem to make a difference.
Any other suggestions?
