Selfie focus update - Samsung Galaxy A3, A5, A7 (2017) Questions & Answe

Recently I read that the galaxy a5 and a7 2017 got an update with camera improvements, one of the main features being selfie focus, a sort of portrait mode. The problem is that a lot of people already have it, other have had it before the update came out, and some don't even have the feature, like me. My security revision date is October 2017 and every day I manually search an update with the manually download button, but it says I have the latest software. If anyone knows any solutions for this without rooting/tripping the Knox counter it would be very appreciated

I got these features by updating my phone to sec. patch 2017-12 through sammobile. Just download there the newest firmware for your country and flash it using Odin, already did it two times and it never tripped knox.

Same here, no selfie focus update.I'm on December security patch.my CSC is THR ( iran) there is no new update for iran :crying:

And would It be possible to use a VPN app or something like that to get the update? I know there are countries that already have it.

no it's csc based.you have to change csc to another country that update already received ex : ser (Russia), but sometimes it will void knox warranty 0x1.
try this method if you want. i think combination method wiil not trigger knox.make backup frist and read instructions carefully, or wait few days for ota update

Monthly Security Patches for Honor-6x

Hallo guys & gals, I wanted to ask you guys about monthly Security Patches as Google has made bound all the OEMs to release monthly security patches for their devices. In this regard most of the devices are getting monthly or at least once in a couple of months but my Honor-6x is not getting any OTA update since April 2017.
Do you guys have any idea or does any body have any Honor 6x with a more recent security update patch?

Honor 6X is getting updated to latest patches every month, currently it's in August Patch 2017...!!!
Sent from my BLN-L22 using Tapatalk
Every month lol. The best Joke i have read.
Well, it depends on the region, US models are rarely updated (unlike EU and Indian variants)
I saw in your signature that your phone model is BLN-21. Could you check if your build ends with B360? If yes, an update should come out soon but meanwhile you should be able to force it, by going on system update > tap on the 3 dots in the upper right corner > download latest update (if the option isn't there you cannot force it yet)
As you can see in these screenshots, in the 1st system update says that there aren't updates; in the 2nd, the option mentioned above is the first of the list, and finally in the 3rd i can download the update
Whoops i forgot the third screenshot, here it is
Well guys as you can see in my shared screen shot my device is on B361 of update level and the region is actual Pakistan which falls under middle east region. Now I actually created the thread to make it sure, whether my region is getting updates or not?
And thanks, @RedSkull23, I have tried your suggestion but as you see my device is already on B361.
I think my real problem is the update via firmware finder, and that's why my device isn't getting OTA updates. As the below screen shot reveals my device is on B361 but the security patch is 5 April 2017, and it is the time when this update was released and I updated my device through FF, since than I have tried a lot but I couldn't get any OTA update.
Sent from my BLN-L21 using Tapatalk
When I still had my 6x, the patch would come about 10-15 days after Google released it. Couldn't say it's timely, but it indeed come monthly.
Btw, I have a Chinese model 6x.
Monthly in China ? And others can go to hell ?
I had to push B365 after about 3 months after B360. Others don't get it at all.

Can you check or, do you remember if previous build number matches with the number of your actual build, or if not? If they doesn't match, maybe the FF update you did has moved you on a different build number, and so your software update won't find nothing because that's the latest package of your ACTUAL build, instead of the previous. Personally, i get confused every time that i finish to speak about FF updates because with all that packages stored and selectable, the number of possibilities that could provoke an issue are too much to be hold in mind at the same time
You are absolutely right FF has its very serious pros & cons. And yes, I think I remember the previous build number of my device, it was B360 and I did a full package download and dload upgrade on my device, and I also remember I was too much enthusiastic to find a sulotuion for the FM radio problem, yet in vain.

[SM-T830][ODIN] Stock firmware collection for Galaxy Tab S4 Wi-Fi

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for anything that you decide to do with these stock firmware images and I will not be held liable if it breaks your device. Use at your own risk. Mirroring these images is encouraged.
Since this is stock firmware, it should not trip KNOX, but if it does, I will not be held responsible.
With all that out of the way...
This is for the Galaxy Tab S4, Wi-Fi only model (SM-T830). I'm posting this so that others don't have to deal with the "pay to access" or "limited speed" firmware download sites. If any new firmware updates come out, I'll post them if I have the time to do so. You will need ODIN v3.13.1 or later to flash this.

I can't remember exactly but I want to say you have to hold down volume up and down, and power. Pretty much all 3 buttons on the device.
I am curious about somehting - forgive me if this is a dumb quesiton - but the US Varient is for XAR Region - is there any difference between XAR and the other Varients BTU - or XEU (United Kingdom) ?
I guess I am asking is it ok to flash one of those on the XAR Varient? the other varients (BTU, XEF, etc) have later build dates and different change logs but I wasn't sure if they were different in other ways - Can we flash other varients on the US Version or do we need to stick with XAR ?

Thanks for your reply that combo didn't work - but what did work was making sure tab was off, then hold down volume up and volume down buttons together and then plug in USB cable - and then it goes straight into download mode.
Cheers

Does any one have flashed this and confirmed the XEF one is on August security patch? since reviewing on Samfirmware there are a lot of ARH5 builds but all of them have June Patch
ARH5 is def. June patch. Loaded the BTU version onto mine today (since UK gets earliest updates) and still June. I very much doubt that ARH1 is on July patch and I am positive all ARH5 builds are on the June patch. A higher build number in the same series indicates a higher patch level not lower so it would be really strange if ARH1 is July and ARH5 is June. (unless Samsung has totally lost their s**t with version control). As long as the PDA is the same it should all be the same base code and Android security patch regardless of CSC. AFAIK the CSC only governs the localized software and some features like which wifi channels are enabled to be in compliance with local regulations. Hopefully they release the BTU Aug/Sept patch soon.

Really odd. My XSG CSC Tab S4 (originally was XAR) is on July with ARH1. It's like Samsung is releasing different builds with different security patch levels and the same build number, making this really confusing.
Mine did an update last night. Only had it a couple of days but it's on ARH8 now
Could someone be so kind as to upload just the build.prop file? I changed some stuff in mine and stupidly forgot to back it up. I checked the files in the zips of the OP post and couldn't find it anywhere. If I stupidly overlooked it just let me know. Thanks!
Nevermind, found what I was looking for.

You can go straight to bootloader with Power + Volume Up + Volume Down. It sounds impossible, but it's not, because the volume button isn't a rocker.

Have you rooted this build. The OEM unlock has disappeared for me. I tried to revert to the older build but odins keeps giving me an FAIL (Auth)
Hi,
I am having a T835, but the question remains. I am fairly expierenced with odin-flashing S8+, Note 8, S9+. I know, that as long as you stay in the same multi-CSC (OXM in my case as DBT), one can simply flash firmwares within the same multi-CSC.
Regarding to https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-tab-s4/SM-T835/, there is a newer INS Firmware. But it seems to be a different multi-CSC (ODM?) with the tablets, different to the phones. Is that assumption true? If this is the case, I also assume, that I should not flash it, in case I want to stay on OXM. All correct?
Thanks a lot,
Corwin
I have not rooted anything in a long time since there is barely any reason to and the only issue I have ever had with different countries' CSCs on my Tab S2/S3/S4 is some wifi 5 Ghz bands not working because they are restricted by country. The latest Argentina/Peru one I linked to above does not have that issue and is good to go.

Customized CH did, indeed.
Silly question : Would an update, like this one, need to update with previous versions first before upgrading to this one ? I'm asking this because here in the UK, I'm still with the Customized UK 47.1.A.16.20. And I've never had any Pie update available displayed on my phone.
Several versions have been dispatched to other zones in the world, including several for different UK providers but then hang in the middle of the roll out. Plus in the Support > Software section of my G8441, it says in the "Next Android version" sub section : "No new Android version planned yet".
It looks weird, isn't? Not to mention after Sony started to roll out their very first Pie firmware for the G8441, my Xperia Companion said a new Software version was available, with no description, no firmware version number, and when trying to download it, Xperia companion crashed and needed to restart. Few hours later, when opening it again, the 'New Software' notification disappeared. Since then my phone displays "No new Android version planned yet".
Is this related ?
Thanks in advance, and sorry for the half off-topic...
I too have the customized UK phone, and nothing here either
Does someone know which .sin files to exclude if I want to install the new firmware (I already have Pie) with newflasher but want to keep my existing settings, apps and data?
I know that persist*.sin should be excluded to avoid losing android assets keys and userdata*.sin also I guess by the name. Anything else?
I have an unlocked bootloader with DRM keys backed up and restored with Customized CH 47.2.A.2.33 installed. I also have flashed the secd patch so the phone offers OTA update, but I know it won't work with the bootloader unlocked.
Came OTA in Switzerland. Update worked like a charm and I don't see any changes except for December security patch.

Updates don't work like that. If you have the CH ROM, you'll get the OTA for that. If you have UK rom, you'll get the UK rom update regadless of the place you are in.
You can manually flash a different rom customization (uk, ch, nordic etc) and then het updates for that one. I don't know if there are some disadvantages doing that though, as some customizations might have specifoc stuff for some countries / carriers.

I do have CH. I flashed CH manually a long time ago, as I was not getting any updates (missed several months) on my DE. I have gotten many regular OTAs since and did a few resets. But I did not get any of the Pie versions. I thought maybe it is actual location...

From what I am deducting all around the web (Sony forums, XDA, 4pda) just keep Oreo and don't bother seeing the number 9 instead of the 8 in the about section of your phone.
I had the OTA update notification for a few weeks, neved installed and eventually it disappeared because Sony has shut down the updates as of Pie bugs reported in their forums.
I am still on latest Oreo and I am going to keep it until I see a totally polished Pie, and it will take months!
Apart from slowmo 960fps in FullHD I truly do not see any reason to update, because the cons are more than pros.
Sure, security patches will be up to date, but does anyone feel the difference having a few month outdated patches? The security is in the hands of the user.

They are in the early days for Android 9 Pie. And Sony is one of the first companies to release pie updates. It's buggy, which is the usual after updating to a new major android version. The previous version 47.2.A.2.33 was not even completely rolled out before this current version started rolling out. I'm sure the usual rollout schedule will continue as the software matures.

Cannot get updates after being back on stock

Hi,
After being back on stock room, it says that updates are not available because integrity was compromised...
Build ppx29.159-24
Is there any way to get around this ?
Thanks a lot for your help
PS: of course I unrooted and relocked the bootloader, but it's not enough apparently
ppx29.159-24 is the latest build I dont think any other carrier has a newer build or are you trying to install that build, if so I had a problem with it and it hard bricked my device after trying to swap slots in fastboot

Surprising but true. Moto has not released any updates for this device with any later security updates than July 2019. So much for a flagship, from 2017 August though.

No. Not unless you compile the kernel from source, and managed to port the rest of Android framework. Though specs could be similar, each "device" - screen, touch digitizer, sensors, camera, etc. will have different drivers.

There is a July update, I already have it. It was delayed though. It usually comes to me at the middle of the month, now it came on the 26th, July. Still in time though.
It depends on what model you have. I have the snapdragon and I think it gets it first, as predominantly where this device is sold, it is the snapdragon version.

Been out for a long time. You can download the firmware and manually update at any time, if you haven't gotten the OTA yet
I have noticed for me who is in South Africa. My security updates generally is a month late or so. Like the June Update I only received around the 25th of July. So I should probably get the July update closer to the end of this month.
Sammobile is a bit behind on updates for my model. so I get the OTA first then it updates on the site.
Unless there is another site a person can download from

Sammobile is a bit behind on updates for my model. so I get the OTA first then it updates on the site.
Unless there is another site a person can download from

SamFW.com is faster than SamMobile, and puts up firmware immediately when it's released
Hello!
I think the fastest to download the latest firmware is Frija

I've seen a couple of posts here in xda and in reddit where someone mentions having downloaded firmware from samfw.com and getting errors with them (something along the lines of "error validating footer") and it surprises me that both posts mention this website specifically. Therefore, I don't recommend it anymore. I will always recommend Frija over anything else, no download speed limit and it's never failed on multiple devices.

But then you have to wait for the enc4 file to be decrypted into a zip. On SamFW, the speeds are just as fast as Frija, but the files are already in zip format

Yes, and? Never had any problem with Frija !
Moreover, that it is decrypted into ZIP after the download makes it possible to be sure that it is complete.
Everyone is free to use the process of their choice

I've heard of it happening lots of times. If it happened to you, just go back to the previous version
