A big update needs a small prep update???? Never heard LOL
Too many video games, I guess. Was half asleep and forgot that that's just not how this works lol
Lousy timing on AT&T. I have been trolling waiting for this update and got really excited. Would have been OK with even an update to unlock the FM radio but alas, we just have a generic update.

No i didn't "root/hack the software" lol . i haven't even received the phone from retailer. this phone is factory unlocked. IMO or experiences this will not affect it but wanted a third opinion.

Unlocked doesn't mean that it was hacked or rooted. It means that you can use any carrier's sim card in it.

I'm no expert, but the way I think it works is that if your phone's not AT&T branded you won't get the update as they are AT&T version specific. If you want to check for and get any kind of updates you'll probably have to go through Samsung's Kies program.
Sorry, misread on the unlocked part.
I just got lots of updates from the play store, one of which is the new Samsung Browser that is included in 6.0 Marshmallow
ok thanks Kyuta Syuko for the information

The Samsung Browser update wasn't tied to this update, Samsung updated the browser to work with Lollipop.

Any one know where i can download this update and update manually? I have a att note 4 on tmobile. I use to be a att customer. But i was told by tmobile that my device software updates have to come from att because i have a att branded version of the note 4.

Android's April security update tackles another Stagefright flaw
You'll want to update in short order.
Google's monthly Android security updates are nothing new, but its latest release may be particularly important. The new April update tackles eight critical vulnerabilites that include one in the libstagefright library -- you know, the same media framework that recently faced a rash of real and potential exploits. It also patches a nasty kernel flaw that would give attackers full control over your device. You'll get first crack at the fixes if you either have a Nexus device or can install an Android Open Source Project build, but other vendors that offer Google's monthly updates will likely follow suit before long.
Now tell me that i do not need this update!

Relax no one's gonna target you and "hack into your phone" if your worried about stagefirght then you shouldn't rely on att or Samsung for that matter to patch it, consider using a texting app that offers protection instead like textra. Anyway good luck finding that 60mb insignificant update file that no one will bother to upload
Stagefright was patched way before this and even though we just got the update, we still don't have the latest patch
Hallo guys & gals, I wanted to ask you guys about monthly Security Patches as Google has made bound all the OEMs to release monthly security patches for their devices. In this regard most of the devices are getting monthly or at least once in a couple of months but my Honor-6x is not getting any OTA update since April 2017.
Do you guys have any idea or does any body have any Honor 6x with a more recent security update patch?

Every month lol. The best Joke i have read.
Well, it depends on the region, US models are rarely updated (unlike EU and Indian variants)
I saw in your signature that your phone model is BLN-21. Could you check if your build ends with B360? If yes, an update should come out soon but meanwhile you should be able to force it, by going on system update > tap on the 3 dots in the upper right corner > download latest update (if the option isn't there you cannot force it yet)
As you can see in these screenshots, in the 1st system update says that there aren't updates; in the 2nd, the option mentioned above is the first of the list, and finally in the 3rd i can download the update
Whoops i forgot the third screenshot, here it is
Well guys as you can see in my shared screen shot my device is on B361 of update level and the region is actual Pakistan which falls under middle east region. Now I actually created the thread to make it sure, whether my region is getting updates or not?
And thanks, @RedSkull23, I have tried your suggestion but as you see my device is already on B361.
I think my real problem is the update via firmware finder, and that's why my device isn't getting OTA updates. As the below screen shot reveals my device is on B361 but the security patch is 5 April 2017, and it is the time when this update was released and I updated my device through FF, since than I have tried a lot but I couldn't get any OTA update.
Sent from my BLN-L21 using Tapatalk
When I still had my 6x, the patch would come about 10-15 days after Google released it. Couldn't say it's timely, but it indeed come monthly.
Btw, I have a Chinese model 6x.
Monthly in China ? And others can go to hell ?
I had to push B365 after about 3 months after B360. Others don't get it at all.

Can you check or, do you remember if previous build number matches with the number of your actual build, or if not? If they doesn't match, maybe the FF update you did has moved you on a different build number, and so your software update won't find nothing because that's the latest package of your ACTUAL build, instead of the previous. Personally, i get confused every time that i finish to speak about FF updates because with all that packages stored and selectable, the number of possibilities that could provoke an issue are too much to be hold in mind at the same time
You are absolutely right FF has its very serious pros & cons. And yes, I think I remember the previous build number of my device, it was B360 and I did a full package download and dload upgrade on my device, and I also remember I was too much enthusiastic to find a sulotuion for the FM radio problem, yet in vain.

Customized CH did, indeed.
Silly question : Would an update, like this one, need to update with previous versions first before upgrading to this one ? I'm asking this because here in the UK, I'm still with the Customized UK 47.1.A.16.20. And I've never had any Pie update available displayed on my phone.
Several versions have been dispatched to other zones in the world, including several for different UK providers but then hang in the middle of the roll out. Plus in the Support > Software section of my G8441, it says in the "Next Android version" sub section : "No new Android version planned yet".
It looks weird, isn't? Not to mention after Sony started to roll out their very first Pie firmware for the G8441, my Xperia Companion said a new Software version was available, with no description, no firmware version number, and when trying to download it, Xperia companion crashed and needed to restart. Few hours later, when opening it again, the 'New Software' notification disappeared. Since then my phone displays "No new Android version planned yet".
Is this related ?
Thanks in advance, and sorry for the half off-topic...
I too have the customized UK phone, and nothing here either
Does someone know which .sin files to exclude if I want to install the new firmware (I already have Pie) with newflasher but want to keep my existing settings, apps and data?
I know that persist*.sin should be excluded to avoid losing android assets keys and userdata*.sin also I guess by the name. Anything else?
I have an unlocked bootloader with DRM keys backed up and restored with Customized CH 47.2.A.2.33 installed. I also have flashed the secd patch so the phone offers OTA update, but I know it won't work with the bootloader unlocked.
Came OTA in Switzerland. Update worked like a charm and I don't see any changes except for December security patch.

Updates don't work like that. If you have the CH ROM, you'll get the OTA for that. If you have UK rom, you'll get the UK rom update regadless of the place you are in.
You can manually flash a different rom customization (uk, ch, nordic etc) and then het updates for that one. I don't know if there are some disadvantages doing that though, as some customizations might have specifoc stuff for some countries / carriers.

I do have CH. I flashed CH manually a long time ago, as I was not getting any updates (missed several months) on my DE. I have gotten many regular OTAs since and did a few resets. But I did not get any of the Pie versions. I thought maybe it is actual location...
I'm in the UK boat, I've been a Sony user since the Xperia arc and I've certainly had some long waits for software updates but I can't remember seeing so many versions released without the UK sim free getting any of them. Can't see my next phone being Sony now.

From what I am deducting all around the web (Sony forums, XDA, 4pda) just keep Oreo and don't bother seeing the number 9 instead of the 8 in the about section of your phone.
I had the OTA update notification for a few weeks, neved installed and eventually it disappeared because Sony has shut down the updates as of Pie bugs reported in their forums.
I am still on latest Oreo and I am going to keep it until I see a totally polished Pie, and it will take months!
Apart from slowmo 960fps in FullHD I truly do not see any reason to update, because the cons are more than pros.
Sure, security patches will be up to date, but does anyone feel the difference having a few month outdated patches? The security is in the hands of the user.

They are in the early days for Android 9 Pie. And Sony is one of the first companies to release pie updates. It's buggy, which is the usual after updating to a new major android version. The previous version 47.2.A.2.33 was not even completely rolled out before this current version started rolling out. I'm sure the usual rollout schedule will continue as the software matures.
Hi everyone,
Just to notify that I got new firmware update 47.2.A.11.228.
It includes September Security Updates... and that's a 401.4 MB update..!
Usually it was more like 200 Mo updates if I remember correctly... I wonder why. ^^
Possibly due to Sony focusing on the same time on Android 10 update.
It was more or less the same with Android 9 update last year: no October 2018 update and 2 updates for December, one being Android 9.
From what I read, "What's New" app is still there, but Xperia Lounge disapeared.
... but even being there, What's New is an empty app now ! When you open it, you have a "What's New is no longer available" message.

Removing "whats new" was the number 1 reason for rooting my phone in the past.
The second reason was to dark theme apps... though now most apps seem to be dark.

My friends. I have a sony x f5121. When it heats up, the camera's functionality soon becomes limited and then the native camera ends up closing. After these Sony XZ1 updates, does the same problem still persist on the XZ1? (At the time of launch, many reported this problem as well). I am interested in the Sony XZ1, but if it has the same camera problems as the Sony X, it is not viable. Thanks

Hi and apologies for the newbie question, Im not very techinical but need some help/advice please. I have a Poco F3 bought new not long ago. Its Running :-
MIU Global 14.07.0 (TKHEUXM)
Andoird Version 13 TKQ1.220829.002
Android Security Update 2023-02-01
The issue I have is that lots of my work apps (Outlook, Teams mainly) wont run becuase security at work requires that I am on at least the March Android Security Update. However my phone doesnt see these update. I dont particularly want to have to buy a new phone (work wont pay for one!) as I only bought it recently. Do any of you kind people know of a way that I can update my version of Android or at least get a newer security update installed on my current phone please.
Thanks for reading and your time in advance.
Strange. Why would apps require you to have such recent of a system update? Most Android phones don't get updated quickly.
Are you sure of this? Where did you read that? Ideally please provide some screenshots to see
Edit: It is possible for you to get a newer security patch, but you'll have to unlock your phone's bootloader and flash a Custom OS on it, which will be too much work (and has caveats), just for getting apps to work.
Second and preferred option is to just wait for Xiaomi to release a system update with updated security patch, but I can't tell you how long they'll take

I heard xiaomi dropped support for poco f3 so it won't be getting updates anymore (not sure about security updates). If security updates are your main concern, i would suggest buying an iphone instead as its updates are pushed on every model no matter how old it is. Pixel phones get speedy updates as well. Also, I've used teams and outlook on old android versions myself. I dont see how it's possible for them to enforce a specific security patch. As the user above stated, a screenshot would be very helpful. Also i know its not my place to say this but if your company somehow made outlook and teams enforce security patches, they should sponsor an appropriate phone to their employees as well.
Disregard
Thanks for replying. The screenshot below is what I get when I try Outlook/Teams. Interesting I didnt realise support for the POCO F3 had stopped,, Its the android security update thats the issue. The org is attempting to pass cyberessentials and this is part of the aftermath of locking security on devices. The enforcment is being done by enrolling your device into a policy. If you dont enroll you cant access company data using your phone, if you do enroll then the policy kicks in and requires your device is compliant.

You can try asking your organisation to adjust their Microsoft Intune Enrollment Settings, to loosen Android Security Patch Requirement from March to February (your current security patch), or if they can somehow accept your device anyway.
I'm very sure Poco F3 will continue to get Security Patches for the timebeing, only the OS Update to Android 14 is uncertain. It will definitely still get the OS Update to Android 13.1 tho.
Yeah tried both asking for a bit of leniancy and exclusion but no luck. I hope you are right about the security patches, wish they were a bit more timely. It's so convenient to have access via mobile. It's tough luck for my boss and team though as I do a lot of stuff out of hours via phone which I won't do now unless I/they find a solution. I'm certainly not buying a new phone myself. I really appreciate all your replies and for those taking the time to read my query. Thank You.
