Hello fellow P2 users!
Back in 2015 i used paranoid android for the pie controls on my LG G2. Played around a lots with roms, but those pie controls were really what excited me the most.
Then i had lots of work to do and no time for modding around.
Then by the end of last year i bought the lenovo p2 and now im wondering whats the best way to get pie controls while still using stock rom. To clarify, i dont want pie controls in addition to regular controls, i want them to replace them. Any help is appreciated, keep in mind i have been out of the modding loop for a long time
Use aicp, it has the most responsive implementation of pie controls. The rr version feels sluggish

Use LMT by noname81. I've been using it on multiple devices, and it works great. Just remember to de-select all the other options you don't need like Gestures. Enable Pie Control, and select up to 20 apps/activities/system commands (with long press) that you can use. Also you can change its color so that it's all black, so it goes well with the sAMOLED screen if you're like me and prefer all-black.
The gravitybox module is doing that job. You can try. But if the burn-in on amoled is not a problem, I would recommend the gravitybox special key(three dot key in the right side).

Long time lurker, first time poster. I am not a die hard flasher. I like to flash because it is a cheap way to get a virtually new phone.
I have had the S2 for a year now and in the beginning I was running MIUI which I really liked. It did all I wanted plus it allowed me to change the appearance occaisionally when I got bored with the status quo. Later they quit supporting the S2 and I found Avatar rom. This has been a great rom and I have been using it for most of the last year. Recently they had an upgrade which was giving me a "phone.android.com" error and rendered the phone useless which was totally unacceptable so I restored my earlier version. There is talk on that thread that they will be moving to KitKat. I'll wait for that.
In the meantime I decided to try something else, so yesterday I flashed ParanoidAndroid 4.4. Initially it seemed like a great rom and I spent the better part of the day playing around with it. I decided to run it for awhile and was setting it up for my style of use when I discovered a couple of things.
The first thing I discovered was that I could not find a way to customize the quick settings panel. I was able to rearrange it so that I could get the tiles where I wanted but I couldn't add any other tiles, like sleep. I like to try and avoid using my hardware buttons as much as possible to preclude wear and tear. I have read of bad or broken power switches on these devices. I am sure other devices have similar issues. I decided that I could maybe live without the sleep tile and just let the thing put itself to sleep most of the time and deal with any missing tiles in other ways.
The next thing I disovered was that my folders and icons were dissapearing. I like to group my apps in folders so that similar apps are all in one place. I am sure I am not the only one that does this. Anyway, dissappearing folders was something I could not live with. I'm sure we all spend time getting our phones set up just the way we like them and then use them as daily drivers. When I set things up I like them to stay until I change them. At any rate, it was at that point I decided to restore my Avatar rom and wait for the Kit Kat version to come out.
In conclusion, ParanoidAndroid looks like a great rom so I will be keeping an eye on it, but I have high hopes for a Kit Kat version of Avatar in the near future so I'll be watching that as well.
true dat
the power button on mine is about as useless as ever. i use carbon rom at 4.4.2 and allow the volume buttons to turn on my phone's screen. i can't deal with the trouble of using the power button when it'll instantly turn off the screen once i turn it on.
I'm using PA 4.0 (4.4.2) beta 6 as well. I would just like to report that I am successfully using folders to sort my apps. My app folders do not disappear.
I tend to agree with you about the Quick Settings panel. Some of the changes that I'd like to make are available.
There are a few other things with PA 4.0 (4.4.2) beta 6 that are strange (bugs/performance issues). I think that after a few more beta releases, those things will be ironed out.
Today I'm going to be switching to PA 4.2 beta-1.
I've anxious to see:
- How boot times have changed
- How the PIE controls are
- How buggy it is
- How performance has changed
Hey guys! Got a G3 D855 here, rooted with IOroot and bumped (TWRP installed), Build number: KVT49L / Software version: V10h
Thinking to flash a custom ROM, but I'm so used to Xposed Framework (G3 TweakBox mainly), that I don't know if I'm ready yet to go to a Custom ROM Lollipop... I was thinking either to stay in stable Custom ROM Kitkat, like CM11 and having the Xposed and every feature that I'm used to, or move to a ASOP lollipop ROM or CM12.
What you guys think? Anyone very used to Xposed, moved to Lollipop? Which features are you missing the most?
Or you think, I should do the step towards lollipop and can get the features I was getting from Tweakbox from apps with root acess in the playstore?
Thanks!

Just like you, I was sceptical about switching to Lollipop since I'd lose Xposed. However, after flashing Lollipop I have not regretted it at all; I fell in love with it right away.
The only thing I'm actually missing is G3 Tweaksbox, but I can manage without it for now
Regarding module alternatives, have a look at this outstanding article:

What do you mean? The battery life is bad on Lollipop compared to KitKat or on Lollipop custom ROM?
Battery is good on both.
Try Lollipop. If you dont like it you can always go back.

Trying to decide now either CM 12 or an ASOP ROM, I heard that are some things that ASOP's just can't fix, like receiving MMS while connected to wi-fi... I head something like this and I wonder which else common problems, have the ASOP's have.. Any1 knows?
Thanks!
I installed Lollipop as soon as I got the OTA. 2 days later I am very displeased. I expected some inconvenience but it is a lot worse than I expected.
1st - The autonomy is really affected. I can't give any number because my kitkat + SETCPU profiles were tweaked a lot and provided me a big autonomy, way higher than stock kitkat.
2nd- The atrocious new sound profiles that got me late at work and that many people are complaining about. Do not disturb is nothing like the quiet mode we all loved.
I'll try and draw a tree showing how it works
so you got 3 sounds profiles you can cycle through from the notification quickaccess.
--Sound
--Vibrate Only
--Do Not Disturb (which is supposed to replace the quiet mode but failing hard)
In DnD :
//Calls and Notifications
----All
----Priority Only (see below)
----None
//Piority ("Allow certain features to interrupt when Priority Only. Alarms always have priority) That makes you think you just have to set DnD as Priority only and remove everything from priority so only the alarms would ring out.......
That sounds lovely except every single time you get out of DnD it resets the Calls And Notifications setting to all and when you'll reenable DnD it will go to None and shuts down everything.
So, in order to have the same behavior as the quiet mode in kitkat you have to do the following :
Notification bar > Settings > Sound > Do Not Disturb > Calls and Notifications > Priority Only.
This EVERY SINGLE night as you'll remove DnD every morning of course.
Not to mention that the alarm will ring but not wake screen so you got unlock your lockscreen and then turn off your alarm.
I think I should whine though, this mess preventing me from sleeping I have no use for alarms anymore, like Lollipop devs I guess.
It is a mess at the moment so don't bother, the issues exceeds by far the benefits.
The best thing to do would be : Do a nandroid back up of your existing KK ROM then flash AOSP>CM12 and see which one you like. Everybody have their own priorities and you be the judge of your own likes/dislikes. I have tried both AOSP and CM 12 but returned to stable KK V10N. I have a small kid and I have to have a nice camera app and I was not convinced with the AOSP/CM 12 camera apps. Stock Camera app has to do with the OEM framework and can't be replicated in AOSP/CM 12 ROMs. Secondly (it may sound shallow), I could not stand the big navigation bar. You can use tweaks to make it smaller but the navigation bar buttons does not change in proportionate to the size of navigation bar. SImply put, they look ugly. I personally did not find any speed d or battery life difference. Giving up Xposed and aforementioned features were not worth the trade off for ME. Again, this is what I experienced, your experience may be totally different than mine and that's all right

Hey All!
So my Nexus 4 took a big spill the other day that put it out of commission and i had to go to T-Mobile to get another phone. Last month i looked into the phones that were on the market (because my friend lost hers and i was helping her pick out a phone) and the choices we came down to were Nexus 6, Galaxy S5, and LG G3. Well She ended up finding her old phone but from that research i knew which one i wanted to get. I really like the nexus series but 6 inches is a deal-breaker for me, my biggest complaint about this LG G3 is that its too big...
In any case, i have had the phone for about one day but i can't stand the LG ROM on it. It feels slow (even with 3GB of RAM in this thing!) and I really don't like all the bloat ware the Tmobile put on my phone.
I like the stock android experience and want to find one that comes pretty close to it (although extra features are always a plus). Here is what I prioritize in my phone (starting with highest priority and going down:
-Stable, First and foremost i cannot stand a crash, i hate hate hate it. I need the ROM to work just as well (if not better) than the stock android ROMs on the nexus line
-Working Hardware, i take a bunch of pictures and am constantly using mobile data (4G LTE) so i need all these to work well
-Battery Life, I play games a lot on my phone during the day when waiting around for the bus or whatever, i like to have my battery last as long as possible so i don't need to break out a portable charger.
-Responsive, i don't need to have a ton of crazy amazing features, but i do want it to be responsive, nothing peeves me more than having input lag when texting someone.
-Customizability, i really do enjoy the fact that i can change the home buttons on that appear on the bottom of the screen on the LG G3 ROM, its a nice touch to be able to tap a button to get your notifications to pull down (especially on such a large phone), so customizability of small features like that go along way with me, small things like being able to see the day next to time i really love.
-Lastly i like to have my phone flat on my desk a lot and with the button on the back the best way to turn it on is the double tap, so if possible (but not necessary) i would like to retain that feature.
Some ROMs i have been looking at and read reviews but cant really decide which to try are Cyanogen Mod 12, Illusion, and PurpleDrake.
Based on my user profile (what is most important to me) which ROMs (can be one of the ones i listed or whatever one you think works best) would you recommend.
Also is flashing a custom kernel very popular on the LG G3? I know it was on the nexus 4 but is it also beneficial on this device?
Last, is there a good instruction on xda for rooting and unlocking the bootloader (and possibly flashing a custom recovery) for the LG G3 D851 (The specific one i have)?
Your best bet is to get a stock-based ROM then install Xposed + some modules to customize it to your liking. A really good stock ROM is CloudyG3. It will give you all the stock features like IR remote, good camera app, double tap to wake, WiFi calling etc. I recommend getting a 3rd party launcher that allows you to set gestures. I use Nova Launcher and have "swipe down" open up the notification drawer. CM12 and other AOSP-based ROMs are probably smoother and faster but they will be more prone to crashing and lack stock features (though double tap to wake is in all).

Thanks so much for your input! What is xposed? Is is an app that you install after flashing the ROM or is it something like GAPPS which your flash during installation of your ROM? Where can i find more information on what Xposed is and how it provides features?
Why do you say that my best bet is a stock-based ROM over an AOSP one?

Basically, Xposed is a framework that allows you to install/remove codes (modules) on-the-fly. Easy to install. More info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/xposed-faq-issues-t2735540
Stock-based over AOSP because of your preferences lol. They're generally more stable and let you take advantage of ALL of the G3's hardware.

Do you know any specific problems that AOSP have with the G3 hardware over the Stock? I am really looking to get rid of bloatware and increase responsiveness and battery life. I just get this weird feeling like the stock ROM is slooooooow.
Also does the Xposed framework load down the phone at all? I feel with each module i install it would get progressively slower with all the stuff running in the background. Doesnt seem very lightweight after having the cloudyG3 installed i should have a ton of features (since its stock and not AOSP). seems like it would lag down it even more.
I'm just looking for a stable ROM with a decent set of features (i don't need anything too crazy) that is responsive (i feel with 3GB of RAM i shouldnt have to deal with lag anymore) and has a decent battery life (3000mAh is a lot, even with the large screen). What can you guys recommend based on that simply details?

Hey guys,
I have just received my new A2 Lite (4gb 64gb) with Oreo.
Is the 9.0 Pie upgrade worth it?
What kind of SOT are you guys getting and how's the overall battery life?
Smoother/faster or worse?
Any annoying bugs that haven't been sorted out yet or something that would hold you back from upgrading?
Thanks!
I think oreo is better on drain.
Pie has faster animations.
I recommend you should wait january update for pie. We are on 5 december security patch.
I haven't see any annoying bug yet.
If you upgrade to pie an hard reset would be good for daily use and speed(after updrading).

I noticed no bugs either, but some things are annoying, for example there are network indicator arrows on statusbar and it keeps showing and hiding itself. When you have DND enabled, it shows a dot then shows the DND icon. It's flipping annoying if you ask me. Other than that it seems fine but be aware you can't use a 3rd party launcher properly with Pie because of the new dock. It looks ugly and cuts the animation if you install another launcher. So far that's all my issues with Pie. Some people report that Pie has worse battery life, but I think it has to do with AI optimizations and it gets better with usage. Tried and tested. If the first two problems I wrote about won't disturb you, go ahead and install it. ALSO Pie doesn't have rounded corners on notifications like it does on Pixel devices. Which was a huge deal-breaker for me at first, but then I got used to it. Cheers!
EDIT: Overall Pie seems smoother because of the new animations and SOT depends on usage, my record was about 8,5 hours sot but again it depends on your usage, technically Pie is supposed give you better battery life. When you upgrade to Pie, you can downgrade however you will face SIM card issues etc.

Alright! thanks! But I guess it doesn't have any significant good changes versus the 8.0 other than visual changes, and or pretty much things that we won't notice.
A black theme would be good to have, and maybe the possibility to add the Gcam APK with that night mode. (apparently not working well on Pie?)
Thanks again for your long reply.

Black theme is already present on android 8 but you need to use a dark wallpaper, it's always on automatic. On Pie you can set it to dark mode always, but the accent colors are teal and some people don't like them. Dark mode only applies to phone, messaging and quick settings. Gcam apk found in themes and apps works fine on Pie, but ones I tried with Night Shot have issues, although you can use Night Shot you can't use Portrait etc. which makes it unusable so I use the old version, which gets the job done.
I have 10.5 or 11.5 SOT on pie .. sorry for my bad english
I have been on Pie basically since it was released in Indonesia (vpn enforced update), and, for me, the only lowlights are the hidden notifications (as mentioned above) and sligthy worse SOT. On the other hand, I really grew to like the launcher gestures, especially the switch between the last 2 used apps. I do not even mind the always present google search bar, which I mostly use to find and launch applications, rather then swiping up for the app list. The fingerprint reader gesture is a nice addition too (although I preferred the side swipe introduced on pre-December patch version). It really depends on what is important for you. I am enjoying it and would not go back.
I've been on the fence about upgrading to my main 2 XL (O 8.1) to Pie mainly to get Night Sight -- so appreciate hearing any main issues on Pie that haven't been addressed/patched yet.
Only stayed on 8.1 this long because it's been remarkably rock solid for me on everything. I've read the various Bluetooth, connectivity, battery life, and other issues reported for months after Pie was released. So I've been pretty lukewarm on Pie other than missing out on Night Sight.
It sounds like the BT "disable absolute volume" issue in Pie was fixed via an update just several months ago, so I'm assuming that eliminated one big problem. (I use this with a bunch of BT speakers and headsets so it was a dealbreaker until fixed.) Appreciate it if someone can confirm just to be sure. As much as I really want Night Sight, it's not worth losing battery life or reliable connectivity to get it -- those come first in my book. (I tried sideloading the earlier adapted camera apk with early Night Sight but it won't install on 8.1 -- I surmised it requires 9.0.)
Sure, I could wait for Q, but for my usage, I prefer updating to mature, stable releases whenever possible for my daily driver phone.
So how is Pie doing today on the Pixel 2 XL? Any remaining issues?
Actually, I didn't face any issues except RAM management, I mean this is the same with Pixel3 series. To deal with this, I use ZRAM mechanism to solve, just flash a custom kernel and download EX kernel manager or some tweak tools and then enable and expand the ZRAM to 1024M. The battery life is amazing that SOT could reach 8 hrs as common sense. Night sight has been a default feature in the stock camera when you upgrade to the latest version, also, you can use custom Gcam if you like, which contains more new features such as long exposure, etc. Hope you can be happy with your device.

[Hmmm, just tried posting this from my phone browser and it didn't appear here. So, let me try this again -- might be a near-duplicate posting, but I added more here.]
Here's my perspective on "Disable Absolute Volume" (DAV), and why it's important:
It's buried under the "Developer options" under "System" settings in Oreo once you enable the Developer options. Essentially DAV gives you finer control over the volume steps for Bluetooth-connected audio devices. Think Bluetooth speakers, headphones, hands-free headsets, and your car.
For instance, without DAV enabled, the volume might jump up or down too much (sometimes drastically) or nowhere near enough with each press of your phone's volume keys. So it makes it really hard or sometimes impossible to find the sweet spot for volume control from your phone. IIRC, without DAV enabled, my music volume to my various BT speakers from my Pixel 2XL was far too low, with only the last couple of volume steps jumping it way up loud -- nothing moderate in the middle. And my BT speaker was sometimes in another room from the phone, so you can guess how frustrating that was.
With DAV enabled, you get more moderate/finer steps in volume from the phone, like we used to have in earlier Android versions. In other words, we have to turn off absolute volume control by enabling DAV to get back to where we were. I guess that's called progress these days. There were a small number of earlier reports that Pie 9.0 broke DAV, but seem to recall seeing just a few users say it was fixed via a monthly update in late 2018 (Dec?). So I'm looking for confirmation here. IIRC, Google wasn't even acknowledging it as an issue for months on their support forums.
I listen to so much music from my phone via BT (near-daily) and use a hands-free headset for calls, that as much as I REALLY want Night Sight for the camera, it's not worth it to me if I lose DAV or have additional wireless connectivity issues or other deal-breakers.
So that's why I posted my original query above. I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading to 9.0 now vs. holding pat with Oreo 8.1 (but no security updates sucks) vs. waiting for Q (and its bugs as a new release). The fact that Pie isn't getting a 9.1 update isn't comforting either. Sure, Google can push some updates via the monthly patches, but it tells me that they're putting their dev resources mainly into Q instead.
Hope this helps, and I'd appreciate any responses that could help me make a more informed decision either way -- as this is my main phone.

Thanks jayxiao171735. I'm not rooting or installing custom kernels, so this one is stock Android. Appreciate your other comments.
So are you saying that RAM management is worse on Pixel 2 XL with stock Pie just like the Pixel 3's issues in this regard (closing other apps more quickly, etc.)? I do stream music in the background a lot -- been hearing how a number of users have reported Spotify closing on the P3 when you do something else RAM-intensive like open the camera app. (I don't use that service, but guessing it'll be similar for other background streaming apps.)
I'm starting to wonder if I should just skip Pie and wait for Q since I've waited this long already. Do we keep the onscreen buttons as an option in Q? Not having tried the gestures in Pie, for the moment I really like having the buttons. As long as we keep them as an option either way, I'm good with that.
Other than missing out on Night Sight, pretty much everything has been rock solid on my Pixel 2 XL on 8.1. It's been hands-down the best phone I've owned to date. Snappy, reliable, great battery life, awesome camera even without NS, and no bloatware!
Got it as a free carrier warranty replacement for an older phone past its prime, so I'm not complaining at all. I'm just trying maximize my enjoyment. It's great as-is, but as an amateur photographer, I feel like I'm missing out on Night Sight on occasion. But it's not worth it to me to take on other more substantial issues, annoyances, etc. to get it. So that's why I'm trying to find out what's in store if I upgrade to Pie currently. Typically late OS releases tend to be the most stable and fixed, but not always.
Thanks.

Thanks.

First, I think keeping on Oero is not bad, Pie is pretty good, since I have used Oero version for a long time, I cannot say they are completely different. Although Pie has a better UI design and system animation, it doesn't interfere with your casual usage. Don't try Q now, it is far more stable and reliable, also I feel it is really laggy compared to Pie. As you said, stay on Oero might just miss the night sight camera feature, but you can still take brilliant pics on daytime. If you like to take pics of the night scene, Huawei P30 series might be more suitable for you. Apart from that, I didn't face any issue of RAM management on Oero like Pie. Overall, I do believe you can stay on Oero if you like. By the way, I like taking photos same as you, my INS is freman004, we can follow each other. Thanks.
