Z1 to potential Z5P buy sunlight question. Please - Xperia Z5 Premium Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, here is the for the short story. I own a Z1 that I realy like. Since my teen son start to begging for a phone, I want to give him and get a new one for me. My Z1 have around 50000km on my motocycle dash, in sun, rain, snow, fog , got a few fall and one very rough and still like new. I bought it with that in mind, got attracted by the sealing doors and the magnetic cable to easy durable plug/unplug. I doubt usb would have survive.
Because of the above, I went naturally to the xperia line for my next phone since il will get in the same adventure. I have the Z5P in sight. There is few things that bug me and like to have you comments. Look like the magnet is not there and not clear that it is compatible with wireless charging that will be probably better. The usb plug is wide open but nothing that can be solve by a tape or aftermarket plug. The show stoper I have is the screen under sunligh. The Z1 was good, not exceptional but good and I had an homemade 3D sls printed cradle with a sun cap that helped. According to gsm arena, the Z5P is file way lower than the Z1 in sunlight view. Can the display constrast/luminosity be solve with some settings/custom roms without damaging the phone. Whit all that story in mind, I'd really like to have your comments an experiences shared with me. Thanks KK01

Found a desktop dock for the Aria

So I've been looking for a nice desktop dock for the Aria so I can use it on my nightstand at night while charging. I don't like laying it flat on my nightstand cause having the speaker against the surface muffles the speaker, and I use it as an alarm clock most nights. I scoured about, but there aren't a lot of Aria specific accessories. Finally while searching google for "htc hd mini cradle" or something of the like I ran across this:
(i can't post links cause I'm new to xda, so you'll have to copy and paste it to your browser)
shop.htcpedia.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=996&compability_product=447
Looks nice, and it even SAYS it works with the Aria. That makes me wonder why it never showed up on my searches looking for Aria specific stuff... the picture has an Aria sitting in it lol. I ordered it up, and it wasn't as cheap as I would have liked. Came out to about $38 after shipping. I'll let you all know how I like it once it arrives early this week.
I got EXACTLY the same item on Ebay for $9 (plus $4 for shipping). It took about a week for it to arrive from Hong Kong.
There is a bright blue LED that light up when you place the phone in the craddle. When plugged, Aria sits snug and secure. There is an additional USB cable that can be plugged into PC for syncing.
Aha, $9. Nice find. I don't think the blue LED is that bright at all.
when i was looking for a dock i saw the one that you all are talking about and found this one and i think it looks better and it only 16.99 so i bought it, it was a while ago about a month
I saw a few that charge an extra battery. That wasn't what I was looking for though. Just wanted something small, weighted, and functional.

Hi mate,
I have a Zagg invisishield (front and back) on the way for my Aria, I'd like to get a dock, but from your observations would you say its too tight already. Have I got no chance getting it into the dock with the shield on?
Sorry it took me awhile to get back to this thread!
I inspected the gaps between my Aria and the dock's cradle.
Obviosly, ZAGG film on the front is not creating any issues -- I have one myself! The film on the back could be more nuanced. The sides and the back have enough gap, however the bottom of the phone (where the micro USB port is) could be an issue. I tried wrapping two strips of brown-bag paper around the bottom of my phone, and it still goes into craddle securely and the USB port makes a solid connection.
However, we know that ZAGG film becomes a little bit "sticky" under warm conditions. I am not certain if the warmness of the battery and tight contact between the film on the phone and the dock may cause the film to stick just a little bit, which would make it be pulled away from the phone every time you're undocking it. Hopefully, this will not be an issue, so I would encourage you to try.
Wow I thank you for informative reply. I didn't expect you to go to so much effort.
It is a great help, I think I might get one and try. Thanks mate.

Hi Gorilla800lbs, I found your information to be very useful. I have a different kind of back case and its really think... probably 1mm or slightly more..... do you think the phone will dock with this case attached?
Thanks for the ebay link, I ordered one too
This is cool, I going to get it. Thanks for the find. Looks really big, but it's all good.
damn ive been looking for one of these now time to search e bay lol
thanks to all who posted

This is EXACTLY my concern. I know China manufacturers like to skimp on quality and workmanship sometimes. Often they will have counterfeit components and can cause serious issues with electronics. (I've replaced many a Taiwanese counterfeit capacitor)
Nothing against the nationality, just against build quality.
Can anyone vouch for it?
yeah i hope anyone can verify this, so that i can buy this right away!
how difference with micro usb cable? i think it's work the same thing, charge+sync.

[Q] Magnetic Floatation Holder.

Hi there, I am currently making a magnetic floatation holder compatible with any android phone. I recently came across these threads and was wondering if anybody knew how I could shield the internal apparatus from magnetic interference? The phones are currently floating in mid air within the holder box but they refuse to function correctly due to the immensely powerful magnetic field surrounding it. Any advise at all would be greatly appreciated?
Have you tried a rubber lining? That may help...
Tried many linings
Hi, thanks for the speedy response. I have tried everything from Aerospace Aluminium, plastic, rubber and Titanium. The only material that currently works is lead and that has to be 3mm thick which makes it way too heavy. If there is maybe anyone you know that could literally coat each mechanism and distribution board within the device with lead that would be great but also impractical for multiple cellphone compatibility. I am sooo close but yet soo far. I have managed to adjust the magnetic frequency to allow minimal interference but it still leads variable damage in multiple areas. I have recently applied for a patent but I pray I can find an unknown material. I am just missing something but cannot put my finger on it. Anyways thanks for your kind response but I am 2 minutes away from burning everything......Sooo frustrating. If you come up with any ideas pweeez let me know, my brain is fried.
Thanks Guys and Dols
Thanks for your help KT, I managed to get in touch with one of the guys responsible for Maglev train magnetic composite technologies and he agreed to help me for a small percentage of total profits. It will be ready about March next year for initial testing, maybe you guys at XDA can use a few 1hundred units for testing? It seems to me this is the best arena to get a feel for the product? Thanks anyway, I will be looking into it.
???
I'm extremely confused to why u would need this... Even more confused about how u would market them...
Great Toy, Looks Alien.
Don't you just hate scratched cellphone/tablet screens. Well now(4months time in S.A) you can simply throw your phone into the invisible magnetic field and when there is no contact with the ground your face cannot be scratched. When you get into your car, simply plug it into your sig lighter and your phone etc can be held in mid air. No more key scratches, no more make-up marks on your device. And it looks really space age, your glowing Android etc phone hovering in mid air. And it will also charge automatically while in the magnetic spectrum. Use it as a night clock/light and place it on(or rather over) your night stand table.
Well at least I hope people would use this because I have spent an infinite amount of time and energy, not to mention hard capital, on this adventure of mine. The ride has been great and tough at times but hopefully the law of thermodynamics will ensure at least a 60% return on energy invested. The guys at Maglev where ecstatic so I am sure they would not help me out as they have unless they knew it was a sure bet. Anyways, thanks for the constructive criticism.

My 2c (worth even less )
It sounds very cool, and very techy and geeky, however I don't know if I see the mass market potential for this type of device?
Also I have a couple of questions:
Does the phone hold its position once placed in the magnetic field? Or is it able to rotate freely?
What about the potential effects on wristwatches and other non sheilded devices? I don't want to put my phone in a mag field and have my watch go blank.
That being said I wish you luck - hopefully I'm wrong and you can retire on this idea
Spot On
You are absolutely correct, containment, extrapolation, dispersion on a lateral effect and cross intensification are issues that are currently being worked on. As of yet nobody in S.A has the mechanical techniques nor tools that I require to enclose the radial disturbance, only one company in Germany can manage the calibration needed. And this has only recently been developed through discoveries made on the Large Hadron Collider. Fortunately, the guys at Maglev's, ITSC, have a ready made and diverse magnetic operating coil for my device. With ought going into all the technical babble, I have got a free travel package to Germany next month and they say my mind will be blown away when I see the solution they came up with. And, retirement, no way, my brain could not handle being idle for 5 seconds. These guys are brilliant, I gave them blueprints a week ago and they already have a model I need to sign off on. So I am sure all your devices will not be affected in any way. Gonna hit the waves now, have not surfed in 3weeks. I hope I can count on xda to distribute a few working units when I get back? When you guys O.K a device, it's future is certain.....
I'm a novice so this might be stupid. Your focus seems to be on insulation. Have you tried going the opposite way? Maybe construct some sort of golden faraday cage?
Also, If I got one of those testing units, that would be tits.
im not certian a faraday cage would work. but it would definately be worth trying, not gold though (gold wont conduct magentic flux very well), ferrite, iron, anything that conducts magnetism very well with very little remaining magnetic field when the source is removed (there is a property specified for that, but i cant remember the name). had part would be covering the screen and not being an eyesore. im not gonna watch the thread so OP can pm me for a bit more info if they wish.
any snap shots i know it might be a no but i really want to see this very intrested
Hey sorry, been out of town for a few days. No problem, as soon as I got the reworked casings in place I can send you a pic. Just a tad dicey at the moment due to copy right etc. Oh and brilliant, the Faraday cage worked perfectly in my initial testing +-1year ago but it blocked the entire device off and stopped easy insertion of the phone. All the kinks are pretty much sorted, you can throw the phone from 3metres away and the field will capture it. Received a vid from MGLEV tests, it was lank hilarious, I am so stoked my baby is almost sorted. thanks guys for input, how can I get in touch with xda management, want to organize initial releases for +- 1000 members? Just require delivery reception details and a few agreements, no cost to you at xda at all? Thank you, God Bless.
I think this guy is screwing with us. He sound like a back to the future movie.
And you waited all this time to tell us? (read the last date it was posted).
I see what you mean though, kinda too good to be true or, at least, too expensive to buy commercially
This is not too good to be true. The magnetic levitation technique has been demonstrated even with living beings in lab. There are adornments in market that float in free air with magnetic levitation.
http://www.google.com/search?source...pw.r_cp.&fp=200a4278d8f8f451&biw=1024&bih=655
However, I guess it's far fetched to use it for cellphones since the inteference and damage to components will be too high. However, I doubt the authenticity of this post as MagLev trains have little in their design that'd help shielding a mobile phone.
If scratched surfaces annoy you, use a woolen holder.
hmmm any updates?
I'd love to do testing; got like 4 different phones to test with

S4 Active car/ bike/ Motorcycle holder (dedicated)

Hi all,
just e tip: a dedicated carholder for this phone is ahrd to find and a little expensive if i'm honest.
if you search for a dedicated carholder form LG G2 on Ebay or such, this will do just aswell. mind you, with a little creative puzzling.
the size between these phones is comparable....not EXACTLY the same.
i've taken a light and heated the corners and the 'clipping and unclipping thingy' without the phone in it one by one.
After heating, fitted the phone in and pressen on the each corner-part and pushed the holder around it.
It fits pretty good and will not snap out easliy.
be careful after applying a heat source......ths plastic can be VERY HOT. insert phone and press it onto a surface.
no promises on the result ofocurse.....just thought i'd share it........
I just wanted to add that I went a different direction with this, and it works great.
I bought a http://www.amazon.com/SUPCASE-Samsung-Galaxy-Active-Unicorn/dp/B00DY2SEFE
Then I bought the quadlock mounts
The adapter for the phone
http://www.quadlockcase.com/products/universal-adapter
then bought the bike mount
http://www.quadlockcase.com/products/quad-lock-bar-mount-pro
and car mount
http://www.quadlockcase.com/products/quad-lock-car-mount
I attached the universal adapter to the back of my phone (easy easy compared to the otterbox stuff out there, since unicorn beatle case is uniformly flat already, it is why i chose it)
Now i attach it to my bike/car when I need to, and it doesnt make it too much bulkier. I actually have 2 cases, one with and one without the adapter, and I switch them out if I am going to go biking, or on a long trip where I might use the GPS.
there are really stable BikeMounts from Upmove:

[Q] Need help with choosing accesories etc.

Hey guys!
I'm going to buy Sony Xperia Z1 Compact soon. I felt in love with this phone as I don't like having a brick in my pocket.
I want to buy some accesories in the same time as the phone so I'm thinking about them right now and have some questions.
I would like to buy some case for it and also a tempered glass screen protector. (maybe it's too much but even if it's quite cheap for me - special mobile op offert - I still want to not damage it very fast.) My current phone is Xperia Arc (have it for 2+ years now ) it is awesome but now too laggy and have cracks everywhere..
So can someone give me a hand with choosing accesories? Will they work fine etc.
What I would like to buy and what I found.
- magnetic charger (http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/3x-xperia-z3-z3-compact-z2-magnetic-charging-cables-black-p49789.htm - it says its for z2/z3 but was under z1c section.. )
- case (http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/flexiframe-hybrid-sony-xperia-z1-compact-fusion-case-black-p46817.htm - think it is alright)
- tempered glass screen protector ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Sony-Xp...Tempered-Glass-Screen-Protector-/151238961204 )
So I'll be greatfull is someone will give an opinion on these products or suggest better one.
--------------------------------------------------
My other question is - Are there any must have mods, things I'll want to install ( or apps) ?
I'm sure I'll get rid of these on screen buttons and replace them with gestures.
Should I install a rom or stick with fabric android ? If yes which one ?
Thanks you very much for reading and for any tips!
And please bare with my english its late and I'm not a native
For the products:
- Magnetic charger: A good way of charging the Z1c. But you should really invest some money in this one. I bought 2 cheap ones and it took like 8 hours to charge my phone. I don't have a link to my current one now. It still charges slower than micro USB though. The link you posted seems to be a quality product. At least its expensive But be aware that it might still charge your phone slower than your average micro USB.
Also: magnetic chargers are not made for charging the phone while using it. If you get a call and your phone is on the magnetic charger it will definitely disconnect. So its more a product for charging the Z1c over night.
- Case: Not a fan of cases AT ALL for this phone. Like you said - The main focus of the Z1c is that it is compact. A case ruins that for me. As to your choice: Be careful. The plastic back of such cases scratches REALLY easy. So like after 2 weeks of use you will have a milky back on your phone due to scratches.
Source: had the same one once - threw it away after 2 weeks
- Tampered glass: You cannot really do anything wrong here. For me this is the best way of protecting this phone. Consider using tampered glass for front AND back. Then you can forget about the case.
For the "must-have" mods:
The great thing about Android is that you can modify it like you want. Therefore there are no "must-have" mods. Some people like hiding the onscreen keys, some don't.
So its really up to you. Just spend some time in the mods section here in the forum or search some Xposed modules and you will find your perfect setup.
Same goes for ROMs.
PS: Good choice on the Z1c though - it's a great phone
Oh thank didn't know that it charges that way. Also product in the link it's 3 charging cables so even if one will broke I still have 2 ^^
The main reason that I'd like to buy a magnetic charger is to try not to open plugs to dont have any problems with waterproofness.
I think it's not a problem with z1c awesome battery life :3 Gonna just charge it everynight.
Ikr but I'm also a bit scared of damaging it or scratching.. But the glass will do its work on back of the phone?
I think the set from my link is also for the back. ( as seen on the pic)
Okay so I'm just gonna look at mod sections
I think I'm gonna stay with fabric android for now and just install some lil mods like this 4k one
Also can't wait to play with themes, app icons and different widgets :3
Thank you very much !
Yeah I'm soooo hyped about it ^^ As a lil audiophile I'd finally have all music in one place for all ocsasions.. (64 GB <3)
This is how mine is set up:
I have several cases, but usually keep mine in a Bando power case. Battery life is already good on the phone, but I'm prepared to last for a couple of days if it's ever necessary. On the back of the case is a Minisuit Tactic (search Amazon) which is a pocket and elastic handstrap. This allows me to use the phone one-handed securely, even holding it upside down. The phone can be attached to my rear view mirror via the strap when using GPS. I have tempered glass on the front of the phone. Obviously, my phone is no longer very compact, so I keep it in a holster which I got from the flea market, rather than carry it in my pocket. Running stock rom, modified with Xposed, with black wallpaper. I have lots of music and music apps on mine and use bluetooth receivers at home, work and music studio.
dave
If you get the chance, look at the skinomi skins. I have one for the back of my phone. It stops the back from being scratched easily and looks really good too.
Thanks guys!
Skinomi skins looks realy nice :> This carbon one is cool ^^ not sure if really though..
But i think I'm gonna stay with a case on the back (maybe later will change it to glass or smth) and of course glass on the front
Cant wait for my phone to arrive !!
For me:
1. I use dock magnetic charger. But I used to use microusb to magnetic charger from ebay.
2. I don't use case, but I use phone strap. It save my phone from dropped to the floor when it slipped from my hand several time.
3. USe screen protector for front. You can use a skin or screen protector for the back. From what I heard, the back scratched easily. I applied screen protector and skin to my phone fram day 1
Yeah I got the skinomi skin just because my back got scratched easily. I still have a terrapin case for it, but at least the back won't get inadvertently scratched anymore.
1. Put tempered glass on front.
2. Replace back plastic with Glass.
3. Get any magnetic charger of your choice.
Don't get case as most of them downgrade the amazing look of Z1C.
This is a bit of a necropost, but do you lose waterproofing by replacing the back with the glass one?

You might want to ask this question in the thread which originally handled this topic. I think you can find it in the Accessories section of the forum.
I don't know if it affects the water resistance of the phone but one thing is for sure: if you DO change the back yourself and you get a water damage, it will be hard to make any sort of warranty claim.

My Sony SW2 is dead

... Lasted about 3 months.
I was washing something in the sink with my SW2 on. I used a small amount of common household cleaner containing a bleach.
A few hours later, my watch was blank, and would not turn on. It would also not charge (As indicated by a USB test meter that showed little or no current when the watch was connected.)
I took it apart, and here are the results:
There is a rubber cover at the top left of the device (seen after removing the watch module from the plastic frame). This cover was mostly deteriorated. Likely from previous wear/sweat/washing, not this episode. I am not sure what the rubber cover is, but I guess there is a sensor there (pressure sensor?)
There is no seal on the plastic frame. Water/chemicals/sweat/dirt that gets between the frame and the watch module will stay against the rubber part.
The watch always fit poorly in the frame. It was very easy to remove.
Water, possibly containing dilute bleach entered either from either the deteriorated rubber cover, or the USB port (The USB port cover was properly closed, although it is not particularly soft, and not a material that is likely to form a good seal.)
The a small amount of water seems to have accumulated in the corner of the PC board, near a small square chip that I assume is power management. Some SMT discrete components in that area were affected by the water/chemicals, and were totally oxidized or gone.
Conclusion:
Obviously, I should have removed my watch before using the cleaner.
Simply press-fitting the watch into the plastic frame is not an adequate way to make something like this. Even US$20 Casio watches are built better than this.
The device is not adequately waterproof. A better seal for the USB port should have been used. Even better would be to use a waterproof charging system. Sony already has their magnetic charging port, which is waterproof and un-covered on my Sony Xperia Z2. Why they did not use this port on the SW2, I have no idea.
The SW2 is definitely not up to the build quality I expect from Sony.
Replacement:
The watch seems un-harmed except for the damage to the main board. Very little water (less than a drop) entered the watch. It would be very easily to replace the main board if I ever find one. I am sure there are plenty of SW2's out there with cracked screens, and perfectly good MB's. Perhaps I will find one at a good price.
I certainly do not plan to buy a new SW2 or a SW3. IMHO, the Sony Smart Watch 3 does not provide any compelling advantage over the Android Wear competition.
For the near term, I intend to buy a cheap Smart Band such as the Vidonn X6: http://vidonnx6.com/
I am waiting to see availability and prices of the Huawei Smart Watch. http://consumer.huawei.com/minisite/worldwide/huawei-watch/
I really like the look and features of this Android Wear device, and I actually trust that Huawei's build quality will be better than Sony's. I was very happy with my Huawei Honor 2. It still works fine, and still looks pretty good too. If it had NFC, I would probably still be using it as my main phone.
If either the Huawei is too expensive/never released/etc., or I find a black metal band Moto 360 at a good price, I'll get the Moto 360.
Sorry, and Good-Bye. I really like the features and battery life of the SW2. I wish I still had mine, which is to say that I wish the build quality had been better. I really wish I could have stayed with Sony for my wearable.
Yes, bad quality for the SW2 Seem also bad build quality and waterproof issue for the SW3....
But.... Rather my sw2 to my lg-r (or G). Wear has very poor UI and any action is really complicated
Do you still have the watch? Or any luck finding parts?
I need to repair mine and would be interested in buying it.
Update on my saga (since gtdRR did ask)....
I cleaned up my bench, and put the pieces of my old watch in the original plastic box it came in. AFAIK, it is complete, but I cannot promise that.
If you need the screen, it is in good shape (no water intrusion)... 1 small scratch center top -- about 1-2mm -- not into the actual screen area. Perhaps other very light scratches, but overall very good. PM me if you are interested, but frankly I'll charge you more for the hassle of shipping than the guts are probably worth. I normally sell old stuff/parts like this cash and carry at local Hamfests, so I don't generally ship stuff.
I bought the Vidonn X6. It really is pretty good for $30. Well over 1 week between charges, and the messaging part does work. The software (band firmware as well as the phone app) is pretty buggy as one would expect from such a device, but it works. It's not really a smart watch replacement since there are no apps, and the screen is not visible in any bright light (not just direct sunlight) but I am definitely happy with what I got for $30.
I'd trust it to survive knocking my wrist against something, dropping it, or dunking it in water more than the Sony SW2.
The Huawei Watch is out now (OK, pre-order), but the version I want (Black SS) is $100 more than the base model, plus they want to charge me sales tax.
I'll probably still go that route, but the price is making me hesitate.
PM sent.
Thanks
I still like my SW2
I have also an LG-G and a LG-R. I just found a second hand SW3 metal for 130€. SW3 has an advantage over the others Wear Watch -> his Transflective Screen like the SW2. All other are OLED or LCD IPS and act like a torch in the night at your wrist Not natural to have a screen always light up in your wrist. You can look at your SW3 watch even outdoor with full sun but not with other wear watch. And SW3 has also better battery life than other wear watch.
