Uninstalled app still seen with ES - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Fire TV Box with expansion card installed.
I was using Terrarium TV version 1.7.6 I uninstalled the app and went to install a newer version. (old version no longer showing up under all apps) However it says that the old version is still installed. I have rebooted the stick multiple times. I have removed the expansion card and tried to load to the internal storage but have the same result.
I have Used ES to look at the files on my box but unable to find anything except when I go to local and app then the Icon for Terrarium shows up there I can press uninstall from there but it does not do anything.
I have connected in with a FTP client to the box and ran a search for anything that starts with TERR but it comes up blank. except for one file called Monterrey
found in /Android/data/org.aerialview.avs/files/.kodi/addons/temp/a555ddd1-97a1-40ed-9158-90a852306047/pytz/zoneinfo/America/Monterrey
I really do not want to have to factory reset my box and start it over if I don't have to.
Hope someone out there can help.

Get rid of ES... I just got a newer router & had to change the lan server id; cannot edit the old lan server to the new lan server id; cannot delete old lan server icon.
Sideload the free 'total commander' for android & then sideload the lan plan plugin. TC is able to have the app on windows be installed like ES but much faster to access the app on the pc platform. Also TC will let you do more than ES but easier/simpler; it also has a dual pane mode capabilities.

Still same issue
Thanks for the Ideas,
I have loaded the TC as you suggested but still have the same issue I can not find were it is storing the blasted file remnants that keep me from installing the new 1.9 version. TC says that it is not there at all so ES was able to see somthing that TC could not.
So i still have my original issue of not being able to install the new version 1.9 because it still thinks version 1.7 is still installed.

Are you trying to use ES to install the 1.9 ver??? Use TC to do the install. I do think the problem is ES & that it kept some junk in ES somewhere.
I installed the 1.9 & the video player & codec using TC. After a day I uninstalled the codec, then the player then the 1.9. No sign of 1.9 Did not check with ES as I've uninstalled ES since it is a piece of junk. As i have stated, ES won't let me delete a lan server or edit it; this leads me to believe that your 1.7 is still only in ES's stuff but not exist as far as the system/Fire TV.

Got it

So I uninstalled ES again. Downloaded the file from FIREDL and ran the installer still would not load.
Ran the file From TC still would not load.
Used App2Fire program and found an empty folder on the SD card called Terrarium. I deleted that and then ran the .APK file again and BAMM good to go. Thanks for all the help and advice.

[Q] Internet browser downloading files as .bin - why?

My Desire has developed a problem downloading from the internet.
I used to be able to download a PDF quite happily, but now it when I download a PDF it saves it as .bin the first time then -1.bin, then -2.bin etc.
I've checked with a desktop browser and the files download as thecorrectname.pdf.
Also Opera works fine.
Has anyone else had the problem and fixed it?
Desire is on T-Mobile UK - Froyo.
I have Astro file manager installed (has been for months), which I'm having to use to rename the file downloaded before I can open it.
I've tried Enable Browser Downloads in Astro (and disabling it)
I've also used Astro to Edit File Extensions and reset back to default ones.
It's still the same after restarting the phone.
As you can see I'm clutching at straws.
I guess it must be just me then.
I'll have to reset it then, see if that works.
It won't work
Mine is doing exacly the same. Reset does not help.
No remedy so far.

Thanks for letting me know
I don't know if it is related but it started happening after I installed a game boy emulator.
I've removed it since but still no joy.

[Q] MIUI 1.11 & ES File Manager

I'm running MIUI XJ XPART (latest 1.11). Anyone else experiencing the following problem (it's present for last few versions, but now it's really making me mad ): using ES file manager, setting custom FTP/LAN servers and views - everything OK for some time, then opening it it reverts to default settings (view and all my FTP servers gone? ).
Could it be MIUI too agressive with RAM management or something else?

if you are using FTP/LAN to transfer files from pc to mobile device via WiFi, why dont you use the built in File Explorer FTP server option? correct me if i have not understood your question.
You've understood me well
But there are some cases when I can't use it (ie firewall issues, not the same LAN etc)... and I'm curious to find out why is that happening.
ES is the only program I've encountered problems with, and it seems like a fresh install when it occurs. I've tried using Astro, but I don't like it

may be you can address it in "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19434249" along with the logcat which might have some info on the issue hopefully . i believe there is app available to get the log file.
below is the command to get the log using adb from command prompt by connecting your device to the pc. you should have android-sdk.
prompt> adb logcat > log1.txt

[Q] Installing Chrome or any APK's

Looks like ES File Explorer isn't available in the Amazon app store for the Fire Phone. I've tried downloading .apk's from elsewhere via silk to no avail (it looks like it is specifically not allowing *.apk's to download). There is the option to allow installing 3rd party apps, but not sure how to get the apk on the device. Anyone found a way yet?
Mine is still sitting on a UPS truck somewhere here in town, will have it soon. I sure hope we can at least get gMail and Chrome working otherwise I may return mine shortly after getting it.
Edit: oh crap, didn't realize YouTube will not work either.
adb sideloading works...
I was able to enable USB debugging by going into Settings > Device > Get Info About Your Fire and tapping the device name 5 times.
After that I following this guide ( https://developer.amazon.com/post/T...p-the-ADB-driver-for-Kindle-Fire-Devices.html ) to get the right Kindle adb driver installed.
From there I used the chrome apk found here ( http://www.thinkcomputers.org/how-to-install-google-chrome-on-the-amazon-kindle-fire-hd/ ) and did a "adb install chrome.apk"
So far, so good...
Awesome, wondering if google maps would work the the same.
gmail, youtube, etc have also been installed following this guide... http://www.gizmag.com/how-to-install-google-apps-kindle-fire-hd-hdx/30736/
Not sure about the stability yet, but I will report my findings...
Awesome, mine just arrived. I may leave it shrink wrapped for a couple more hours though.
I've been having difficulties getting my Windows 7 computer to detect the Fire Phone as a valid USB device. Windows tries to install drivers for it but always says drivers are not available. I just installed the android SDK and tried the Kindle drivers and the Google drivers, neither worked as well. I'm very frustrated at this point.
Ok, Windows 7 now sees my phone. I run the "N edition" and had to install many of the packages "N" excludes by default so it was an OS/Microsoft issue.
I just installed the basic four but the google framework crashes frequently while using google apps. The apps work but the framework crashing messages are annoying.
ES File Explorer
I had no issues with downloading this straight to my firephone then installing it. I did have to do some Google.fu to find the apk from a reliable source initialy but once on it is working as normal. If I can find the apk I used ill either upload it to my Google Drive and link or link straight to it if possible.
Es File Explorer
ES Fire Explorer is available for Fire phone. All you need to do is go to Amazon Appstore in your Fire and search for "ES File Explorer" and it will be there.
Yes, ES File Explorer is now on the Amazon App Store
I have installed it, along with many other apks I found on Google, such as Chrome, Instagram, uTorrent, Pandora and a bunch of games like Assassin's Creed Black Flag, Nova, GTA San Andreas and others.
So far everything is working fine. Ive had my Fire Phone for about a month now and it's really not a bad phone. It does everything I need it to.
The only issue I have noticed is that after I have been playing a high definition game for longer than 45 mins or so, the phone does start to get hot. But I just stop playing for a bit and it's fine.
Back to the original question though, yes ES File Explorer is now on the App store and working properly, and you can install just about any apk you can find.

[Q] How to free up space on amazon fire tv?

Hi all,
I rooted my fire tv. i downgrade firmware and installed CWM, install rbox bootloader, then upgrade pre-rooted firmware by rbox. Now when i check under setting --> system -> about i see 3.61gb free space from 5.49gb available space. I don't have a lot app installed in my rooted fire tv so i didnt think what i have installed would taken up 2gb. Here is what i have installed.
Google play store, kodi, llama, es file explore, busybee box, supersu, chrome, firefox and the whatever was required to gain root access, upgrade and downgrading firmware and whatever app is pre-installed from pre-rooted firmware.
Is there way to check which apps and files are taking up the most space and how do you free up space?
Also, does this sound right that only 3.59gb is left. At one point during my root process when i was pushing update.zip file thru adb to downgrade firmware, it took a very long so i exit out of adb (i simply click on "x" bar to close the connection) and started again but i am not sure maybe i installed update.zip file 2x. How do i check? How do ensure i don't have any unnecessary file on fire tv internal drive.
Thank you
I have 3 FireTVs, all rooted and they have between 3.0G to 3.4G free space so I say your free space is within reasonable range

hi thanks for posting back. Makes me feel better but still out of 8gb user only has 3.5gb, not ideal. i wonder where did the 5gb go.
I am curious to hear from others to see how they cleaned up space, if there are any methods.
I'd have to say kodi might be the culprit taking a lot of space with excessive data storage.
Anything similar to xbmc can be a resource hog for storage.

You don't get 8GB of usable space. I think it is only about 5GB. So you are using about 1.5 GB for apps. Not too bad if you are running Kodi.
An easy way to check where files are taking up space is to use the "sdcard analyze" function in esfile explorer. Its under the tools section. Also, with esfile explorer, you can push files from your phone to the firetv pretty easy too. Select whatever file you want to send on your phone, under options choose send, and make sure esfile explorer is open on the firetv too. The firetv prompts you for where you want to save the file.

You can free up quite a bit by pushing these advanced settings to
<advancedsettings>
<pathsubstitution>
<substitute>
<from>/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/org.xbmc.xbmc/files/.xbmc/userdata/Thumbnails/</from>
<to>/storage/usb/drive1/xbmcthumbnails/</to>
</substitute>
</pathsubstitution>
</advancedsettings>
You need to amend to kodi instread of xbmc if you're running 14.0 or higher AND my external is mounted by adbFire mount drives persistent. If you're using stickmount it would be sda (forget exact path?)
Once pushed and confirmed working, all your thumbnails will dissapear. Just go into userdata/database and delete textures13. Then restart xbmc.
Afterwards I also delete the thumbnails folder on internal. Oh yes...make sure you have a folder on external named xbmcthumbnails.
This should immediately clear about 600 mb and keep in mind you typically add more to your library so the amount it saves long term could be huge.

That's actually a good question. I've been using these so long I don't have a memory of exactly how fast they loaded before. I'll say this--they populate fast enough for me to keep using them. I use usb 3.0. I think it's essential based on how big my library is and the fact I use aeon nox with additional fanart.
But, I'd be very interested in seeing if you or someone else sees a significant lag in load times. You can always delete the xml if you find it slow.
Just an fyi I got these from an xda member awhile back. Since then lots of people have tried them and so far I haven't hear complaints, but I'd still like feedback from someone who can compare.
Another suggestion is to pre-scrape all the necessary support files with a media manager of your choice (e.g. fanart, icon, content info, etc.) and switch to local info only on the scraper for the collection. It depends also on how you have your collection organized from a folder perspective.
I found this to be fastest and lightest on local storage (obviously because the "library" is already built) especially when you have a household of streamers. You have all the content centralized on your NAS already. It's silly for streaming box to build the library and re-download the content each time from the Internet (especially if your like me as a perpetual media player tinkerer).
Edit: For clarity, I mean a "Library manager." Look on the Kodi wiki for links to various clients on your preferred OS.

Good to know this. Are there any other setup steps required to be able to do this? Or do you just have es file explorer installed and opened on both phone and FTV?

That's it. As long as the two are on the aame network, it should pick up the firetv as a target.
To clarify, on the phone, long click the file to send, and select send. The firetv ip adress will show up and allow you to send the file. When the prompt shows up on the firetv(provided that esfile explorer is the active and open app), accept the transfer and select tge location to store the transferred file.

EZ File Explorer over Wired. Is there a way with latest rooted firmware?

With the latest rooted custom rom. One thing I've noticed is ez file explorer does not work unless on wifi. Has anything changed? Is there a way to make it work wired?

Got 2 rooted aftvs, one wired and one WiFi and they both work...what'd you mean by work? Is it crashing? Can't enable root explorer?
I mean enabling ftp when wired it says enable wan. When on wifi it shows turn on.
I have the same question. Is it not possible on wired?

It used to work in the earlier firmware. I'm on the latest version of the rooted amazon firmware. The one earlier to this, it worked just fine. I've made a few firetv's and have the same setup for everyone. My parents have the earlier firmware and on wired, ftp can be enabled. It has something to do with the firmware but can't pin point. I've since downloaded the ftp server from amazon (link below) and that works for now but I like EZ file explorer better.

I connect on WiFi and wired using the Lan tab. For stick I couldn't get it to work at all. Needed to use ftp server from play store.
Btw--before the update I used adbfire to mount smb drives and I could see sdcard and USB but now I can't see USB storage. There are ways to do it such as cyberduck on Mac and a sftp server on aftv (forgot the exact name of the app.) But would rather keep it simple.
I thought I tried the Lan tab. Will go back and check...
In the meantime, I installed 'Ftp Server Ultimate' onto my FTV from the Play Store and set it up to start the ftp server at boot and can connect to extUsb and internal. Works really well.
Another note, if u install AndFTP from the Play store to your phone and configure it to connect to your FTV ftp server, you can u use your phone file browser, like ES, to long press files on your phone, select share, and share the file to AndFTP and then select your FTV. Works awesome.

I have Es on all my devices but find I get much faster transfers over Lan so I use that except on stick where I can't get ftp to work without the ftp server installed.
****actually I might've unintentionally misled you about the lan connection. I've just been using it so long I forgot. I have funkyfresh samba installed on both boxes and pretty sure that's why the Lan tab works in ES. You need root for that (I'm pretty sure you do anyways).
Ok thanks. Yes, I have root and I dont use wifi with FTV. Im not using samba...but that would make sense. Guess we're outa luck with ES and ftp...no biggie. I like the FTP Server Ultimate setup tho.
