i have just got a new htc hero in brown details as follows

my questions are is there any updates i can install
and what advantage will rooting it give me
and can i root it safeley
i look at the tut on here and i cant seem to download the CM-Hero-Recovery.img as its no longer available on here
The recovery image you want to download is RA-hero-v1.5.2.
I would recommend you read this for about what you can do with root.
Also this thread should have been posted in the Hero Q&A sub-forum, not the Hero Development sub-forum...

I got the new firmware is not the 2.2 one its 2.1 update 1 and the baseband is i9000xxjm1 i wouldnt download it mate i have lost all my apps and now i am unable to install myplayer for some reason.
Too late, it's upgrading itself Hope TitaniumBackup will restore my all apps

guyz i have KP7 arabic GB 2.3.3 firmware and now i want to flash it with indian firmware 2.3.6 or 2.3.6 xwktm firmware so can i flash it with other region firmware ? or it will brick ?
& what r the changlog of 2.3.6 xwktm ?

You should have created this thread in atleast the Q&A or the General section for maximum response from the users.
But anyways xwktm is a nice ROM
You can flash The ROMs of other Regions
There are not/wont be any problems if you flash a ROM which was released in another Region(Say Europe)
About the Changelog,I don't know the changelog(Other users might be able to help you regarding Changelog)
