This is what i'm thinking of doing too. Might be worth buying one to test for yourself and send it back if you don't like the 5T? It'll be interesting to read others users thoughts on this.

Hey I love the 5T...the Pixel XL is junk, well, at least the screen is. It has issues no doubt. 5T screen is better IMO. Camera, obviously not as good. Neither has an external SD Card?!?!?! Why!!!!!
Anyway, for the money, 5T is hard to beat honestly. Dev support is descent, but not like HTC or Pixel/Google phones.
I had an S8+ for 1 day. Of course, since you can't root without breaking everything like Android pay and Safety Net...no thanks. The S8+ is a near perfect phone, but their abillity to allow you to unlock the bootloader and customize...is nonexistent. Got rid of it. I'm in the US, so the exynos won't work in this country which does allow bootloader unlocking...ridiculous.
I've been an HTC fan for 8yrs now. Just sold my HTC 10. The camera on this OnePlus 5 is better than anything HTC has produced ever. The camera isn't that bad. The OnePlus takes photos as good as my daughter's iPhone 7 Plus. And that camera is no slouch. In fact, head to head, my photos are often better with the 5T.
Anyway...I can imagine the 6 and 6T are going to be a pretty nice. Snapdragon 845 already confirmed for the 6 in a few months they claim it will be released.
Otherwise, I'm not personally dropping $800+ on a new phone no matter who makes it. Which rules Pixel, Huawei, Samsung whatever, and Def iPhone garbage out of the picture. I never spent more than $500-600 on any phone the last 8yrs. HTC resell is pretty good, plus I would wait about 4-6 months after their premier release version to buy it and it is discounted.
Also, my HTC 10 charge port started smelling like burning plaster and wouldn't charge. I had to send it back, and it could take 4 months for them to "evaluate" the burning in Taiwan, then send it back to Seattle, where they say they might not even replace it. They just want to examine it. It is under their uh-oh warranty...so don't know WTF they even care what has happened to it, they will give almost anybody a replacement phone.
Oh well...saw further below that you got the 5T and are keeping it. Version 6 will be out by end of March...so, take it from there. So far, really like the OnePlus...just wish it had a slightly better camera and an SDCard slot.
I was using a Pixel XL for a year and pre-ordered the Pixel 2 XL on launch day.
I got my Pixel 2 XL on October 18th and used it for 2 weeks and there were a lot of good things about it that I liked. It only had a few issues that I could not overlook:
The screen was of poor quality. I'm not talking about unsaturated looking, either. It had harsh blue shift that was impossible not to see in normal day-to-day usage. It also had very poor picture quality when used in a dark room at low brightness. Like everything was too dark yet bright parts of pictures were very bright. Like the contrast of the screen was junk. This was also apparent when viewing pictures at full brightness, but only if I held up my Pixel XL next to it and compared the two. Again, very apparent at low brightness, not as much at normal brightness. Since I like to use my phone at night in the dark, this was a huge pain point. I had no burn-in or noticeable grain in the screen. I was worried moving from a Pixel XL with a quality Samsung panel to a Pixel 2 XL with a questionable LG panel would be a problem, and I was 100% correct.
The battery charging speed. This was something that the Pixel XL wasn't very good at, and I couldn't even get 1% per minute. The Pixel 2 XL was in the same boat, slow charging. Even slower than my old S7 Edge with a larger battery!
These two things were just too much to accept with a $950 device. I returned it to Google for a full refund. Bought the 5T 128GB model on launch day and received it on Black Friday. The 5T has a good screen (like the Pixel XL) and the fastest possible charging option. I also saved like $400 buying the 5T so I got a PS 4 Pro with the extra cash. It's been the best decision I've made since buying the original Pixel XL which was a great phone.

At first I got OnePlus 5T.. in this phone everything was great, except for camera. Camera is a complete disaster - I do not know how people can be taking decent pictures without optical image stabilization. In my case when you look carefully at edges - there was a blur. Tried many camera softwares - the phone simply can't take good pics without OIS. Based on rumors, OnePlus 6 doesn't intend to include OIS in the camera either. Which is sad, as camera modules are about $15 a piece.. likely OIS would be a few dollars more. So, in summary:
OnePlus 5T:
Pros:
- Everything about the phone, screen, performance, development community
Annoyances (not a deal breaker)
- Separate switch on the side of Do not Disturb, Silent, Loud mode. Why on earth this can't be done via volume keys (Mute -> Vibrate -> Loud) and perhaps few other modes?
- Fingerprint reader., especially in the middle of the screen. Mobile device makers are attempting to convince us that bio-metrics are safe, while even US government wasn't able to prevent breach of biometric data of its own employees..
- Mobile camera in the corner, not in the middle of the back panel - in place of a fingerprint. Sometimes camera is obstructed by fingers, perhaps it is just a matter of habit.
Deal breaker:
- Crappy camera with lack of optical image stabilization. No matter what software does via EIS - it is not the same
Outcome: OnePlus 5T returned.
Then - decided to get Pixel 2 XL, hoping that it would get better shots. What a disaster of a phone it is.. around 1,100 Canadian - that is on sale.
Pros:
- Perhaps camera, but in two days took some photos, they didn't look nice either
Deal breaker/disasters:
- Screen - non bright, cheap looking
- I also didn't like the curvy screen. No benefits, as the image is displayed on front of the screen, not on the curves. Only adds to ridiculous and unnecessary cost of the device.
- Screen edges - round. Maybe this is Google's "Style", but falls into a complete disaster category in my book. Even worse - initial version of the software had these roundish corners on top, and at the bottom had three white software keys on black background. Of course when the menu was on, lower corners were squared. When you look at combination of round above, and squared below - you feel like you are not seeing right, and time to visit a nuthouse.
- Even better - with the update to fix burn in issue - menu became lighter / grey color, with transparency - with white buttons. When you are hitting the soft buttons - your mind registers as if you are hitting background.
- Support.. Google won't admit that they include screen burn in issue as part of their warranty. But they do - it took > 10 minutes in chat with Google Support to squeeze out of them the simple confirmation that burn in is covered by the 2 year warranty. So if you are unfortunate to end up with Pixel XL 2 and can't squeeze the confirmation from Google - IM me, and I will gladly share the conversation transcript
- Even better.. when you tap on the phone while it is off (and on too) - it is making hollow sound in the middle, hollow surface is approximately 2./3 of the width of the phone (in the middle) and 3/4 of the phone vertically (in the middle). This gives a feeling of a very cheap and uneven device which doesn't feel solid.
Outcome: Pixel 2 XL returned..
But the phone is still needed.. I looked on Ebay - there are many brand new Nexus 5 and 5X for couple of hundred bucks.. Also, yesterdays hardware is dirt cheap brand new. E.g. Lg G4 is $120. Yes, G4s randomly die, not all of them can be rooted, but still.
Nexues run Camera NX.. Also, just realized, that before Pixels, Google used to publish their camera software without limitations to their own hardware. APK sites should have old versions of the software. When you are looking for older hardware, remember that Camera NX needs 64 bit CPU.
If you are still on the fence, good luck with the choice! And remember that if you do not need latest and greatest - you can get solid performers (models from a year or few ago) for 1/5th of their initial price.
You may consider the camera.

In hand the 5t feels slick and lighter than the 2xl. The 2xl I had it without a case and was able to grab the phone a lot better than I could with the 5t without a case. That being said yes both phone have fallen from my hands or from my lap when I get out of the car. The 5t is able to take a hit better than the 2xl. The 2xl casing cracked, the 5t casing only has scratches. Also, ive actually dropped the 5t in the bathtub of running water as I watched better call Saul while showering. I did Grab it quick but it was fully submerged. Phone still works. Sweet.
Didn't notice much screen size difference.
One other thing the lowest screen setting isn't low enough when laying in bed at night time, you'll need to download an app to make it lower. My wife has the pixelxl, her screen goes much lower than mine.
I grew up Google fan from original Nexus to Nexus 6p, pixel XL, pixel 2 xl. In an attempt to sell my slightly damaged p2xl someone offered me this new 5t in box with $300 cash in addition. I figured why not... I'm glad I did.
I stopped flashing ROMs due to always coming back to original stock with magisk.

I went from 5T to first gen. Pixel XL. Simply put, 5T camera is crap. I got a feeling that the problems with the camera wont never be fixed properly. If good quality photos are needed, I cant recommend the 5T.
Otherwise 5T is a great device and I liked it.
I'm switching from the 5T to a Pixel 2 XL (ordered with a good deal) just for the pure Android/fast updates and better camera. 5T is an awesome device specially for money.
5T is amazing. The biggest and pretty much only downfall is the camera between this and pixel XL 2, and I personally am talking from coming from the original pixel XL, which camera was also better there. If you can get past the camera, 5T is the way to go.

Also came from the 2 XL and I'm not one to try every flagship on the market before deciding which one to keep.
I had exchanged the 2 XL for defects twice. From touchscreen issues to dead pixel clusters. I eventually decided the display wasn't worth the price of the phone.
The blue shift is way over blown. Two of the devices I received had it and one didn't. It's not something that bugged me or noticed in daily use.
What did bug me was horrible brightness uniformity and graininess. And between receiving 3 different devices there were massive variations in display quality (color temperature, graininess, digitizer response). So it seems like buying one is like playing the lotto.
I miss the camera and the front facing speakers (no where near HTC m7,m8, m9 quality but better than the 5t).
It's a nice phone but it's not worth $1k.

I came from an original pixel to the 5T, yes the pixel camera was better but imo some pictures look more natural looking with the 5T camera. I guess it's down to personal taste. Low light photos the 5T isn't as great as the pixel but it's still a good camera on the 5T.
I came from the 2nd gen Pixel and would not hesitate to recommend the 5t. The screen on the 5T has better color saturation and higher max brightness. Scrolling/smoothness isn't quite as good on the 5T, but it flies just as fast. Dash charge is insanely fast. The camera on the 5T can perform just as well as the Pixel under the right conditions but I wouldn't count on it for every point and shoot situation like you can with the Pixel. I snapped the attached pic a couple of week ago and thought it turned out great with absolutely no editing. The Google cases were cool, but the OnePlus Ebony wood bumper is the best I've had on a phone and now that there's a sandstone white variant, it looks just as good without a case. The biggest reason for me to switch to the 5T was the developer community. Since you're on XDA I would assume you're in to ROMs and customization which has already exploded for the 5T only a month or so in and for the Pixel is pretty well nonexistent. Phones are pretty much expensive toys for me and the Pixel was way more expensive, offered a great experience, but was ultimately way less fun.

I think I've got a pretty rough idea of what I want in a phone, and sadly as of now, there is no such thing.
I'll probably be taking a 5T and see how I like it. I know the camera isn't gonna to be as good, but I've seen like every YouTube videos that exists on the subject in the past few days and I think the only way I can decide is to try by myself.
I will keep this thread updated when I'll be receiving mine if I indeed do take one, so that the people that are in such situation, having a supposed superb flagship and that are disappointed can find a bit of information switching to a supposed "worse" phone.

I've been a Samsung user for years. My current , Note 5, is paid and was thinking about a Pixel 2 XL. First off, I'm not a big picture taker because I'm into performance over everything. Plus, like many, are sick of the Samsung bloatware. But The S8+ is a great phone and it has maintained a feature I like.
The feature is pressing a button to answer the phone. The menu button on my 5 does that now. Does the Pixel 2 have such a choice? I hate to swipe to answer. Call me spoiled but it's so much safer while drive to hit a button instead of a swipe. The S8 series has moved the feature to the volume up.
So if there are any Samsung converts out there I'd be happy to hear what you like or even dislike about the Pixel 2 series.
I've done the side sides on my Note 5 vs. s8+ and Pixel 2 xl but I want to hear from real users.

Ive been using Samsung for years. Started with the s3 then note3 then note5 and now pixel2xl.
So far pixel2xl has been great. The colors were a bit dull before the update giving us saturated colors, which fixed it for me. But other than that performance wise its a dream. My personal experience i have yet to experience studder or lag. Performance is the best ive ever experienced with any previous phone and the battery life is second to none. I average 8hr sot with watching YouTube, games, calls, internet.
The note3 and note5 were bought through Verizon so i haven't been able to flash roms or anything since my s3 and currently enjoying trying different mods and whatnot.
Overall this phone is amazing. Im not sure about the button to answer, as of right how it's swipe but could be a way to change that. If you get a chance to get this phone you won't be disappointed.
I have Pixel 2 XL and performance is great but I'm leaning towards Oneplus 5t since I can buy 2 of it and performance is par to Pixel.
The pixel 2 XL was good enough to replace my note 8. And that's says a LOT! ?

That's not actually true. The pixel is actually smoother. I've had both. The pixel does have a smoother feel. Might be because of Oreo. And where I am the OnePlus is £499. And the pixel 2 XL is £699 with a free speaker. Do you couldn't even get 1 and a half OnePlus for the same price...saying you can get 2 for the same price is far fetched. I also wouldn't recommend switching. The OnePlus is a good phone for the price but it is a down grade and you will notice a few areas are not as good

Thats not true for USA. The pixel 2 XL 128GB cost $1000+ with tax and Oneplus 5t 128GB $550. At the moment I have both side by side and performance there is no difference.
I've been a Samsung fanboy since my Samsung Galaxy vibrant with T-Mobile. I've had every Samsung Galaxy S phone up to the Galaxy s8+. I don't miss it one bit. I was on the fence for several weeks. I ordered it, cancelled multiple times because of all the bad press. I eventually pulled the trigger and bought the 64gb in black, but I forgot to get the premium coverage. So I returned it and got a 128gb. I don't regret purchasing this phone outright at all. To be honest. I don't think I'll go back. Not until Samsung comes out with something unbelievable. The way that I look at it. Samsung is like a Lamborghini or Ferrari of Android. But they can throw all the best parts, displays, whatever bells and whistles they want. But what good is a Lamborghini or Ferrari with a bad tune? Although the pixel 2 XL may not be the best looking device. It's tuned specifically for this phone and you can tell. Also, I sort of prefer the "natural" colors of this display. If you're going to look for issues, your going to find them in any device. But as for the phone calls. When somebody calls and your display is off. It will pop up a a screen with a circle. You can swipe up to answer the call, or down to ignore it. If your screen is on. A small box will pop up with the contact calling and you can take answer or ignore. I'll try to send some screen shots.
Some reason I couldn't update my previous post. But the attachments are what the call screen looks like from both perspectives.
Ive had my Pixel 2 XL for a week now and I have never had any lag/stutter even when syncing in the background. Battery is superb, 5-6hrs screen on time is easily achieved. Speakers are loud and clean. What can I say more about the camera? Camera is beast!
I used Samsung from S2 to S6 and there is always this delay/lag when opening apps. I guess its just the animation. I find Samsung chargers easy to have problems (slow charge). I am not sure with the S8 now. AMOLED is nice, but hurts my eyes. These are the reasons I went away from AMOLED to IPS LCD (pre-Pixel2XL). I was hesitant at first getting the Pixel 2 XL with all these display issues around it. But personally, the Boosted display settings is just right. I do not like the Saturated settings because it reminds me of Samsung. Too vivid for my liking. The Boosted colors are not washed out, people are just used to/spoiled seeing punchy AMOLED displays, looked unnatural.
As for your concern, a little adjustment when taking the call would be the best move.
So, if youre looking for a phone with the best performance, updates, camera, go get the Pixel 2 XL.
Display is subjective. For the missing headphone jack, im ok with it, they provide a c-3.5mm converter. Thats about it! Hopefully I have contributed something to your decision.

That doesn't seem to be true based on many reviews of OP5t performance vs the Pixel 2, even the very thorough review of the OP5t here at xda. Long story short: P2 offers a much more fluid experience than the OP5t and may even be a little snappier. The OP5t utilizes animation tricks to make the phone seem and feel snappier than it is and it's smoothness is nowhere near the level of the Pixel 2. Throw in the sub par camera, poor support and outdated firmware and it's no wonder they sell em for so cheap. Plus, it's $874 vs $550, hardly double.
I've had a LOT of phones over the years, usually switching every 6 months selling off whatever I had to get the absolute latest, but slowed down once I got my OnePlus 3T... It's an AMAZING phone for the price. I was done with Samsung after the 6 series. That said, I went to the Google Pixel 2 XL instead of the 5T because of the dual front facing speakers as well as a few other Pixel only features and I do not regret it at all. The blue-shift isn't too bad once you adjust the colors a bit on the screen (I'm rooted and using EX Kernel / KCal).
My girlfriend has the Samsung S7 Edge and a few friends have the S8s and all want the Pixel 2 XL now after checking it out. It's hard to match the software experience you get on a Pixel device, that's for sure. You can't beat having dual-speakers on a phone, makes for daily use, hearing calls, music, watching videos all the better. I do recommend the 5T for those not worried about camera or dual-speakers as it's got a nicer out-of-the-box looking screen and is much less expensive to purchase, it's no slouch overall. In the end, the Pixel 2 XL was worth every extra penny for my use... make a list of things you need from a phone and see which works best for you as you're all that matters with your phone purchase. Our opinions aren't here to sway you away from what's best for you.

Depends on what you want. For me 100% it is. Adaway, themes, terminal em, titanium backup, root browser.
Besides the themes, can you explain what the others are for
I've used Titanium when I had the note 4. I don't know how a root browser would be different

I agree. Saying it's double the price is an exaggerated. And I was surprised. When I was using the oneplus 5t my wife's pixel 2 did seem even more fluid and smooth
All the little things for me have been working better on the pixel 2 as well. I get better mobile signal...and sometimes the oneplus would refuse to turn on my mobile data so I had to restart it
The vibration motor is much nicer on the pixel
Screen is on par if not better in some areas on the pixel
Dual speakers. Amazing camera
Don't get me wrong the oneplus 5t is a great phone for the price but when you switch to the pixel you do feel the price difference in pretty much every area
..even in the small things
At this point I can't imagine going back to a non-Google phone. My first smartphone was a Nexus One and I loved it. I then went to a Galaxy S2 which was a piece of ****. Since then I have yet to see much improvement from Samsung software and the software from other phone makers isn't much better. I'm pretty much on an every other year cycle of whatever Google puts out because even if it isn't perfect it's still better than the alternative.

The feature is pressing a button to answer the phone. The menu button on my 5 does that now. Does the Pixel 2 have such a choice? I hate to swipe to answer. Call me spoiled but it's so much safer while drive to hit a button instead of a swipe. The S8 series has moved the feature to the volume up.
So if there are any Samsung converts out there I'd be happy to hear what you like or even dislike about the Pixel 2 series.
I've done the side sides on my Note 5 vs. s8+ and Pixel 2 xl but I want to hear from real users.

Can I add that the ambient display with time and date is soooo fine?
When notifications arrive, they're below the always on time and date.
Plus there's "what's playing now", showing artist and song name for whatever
you're listening to. These capabilities make this phone perfect for me.
Battery life does not seem to take a hit for this luxury.
The active Edge (squeezing it) allows me to turn on the torch with screen off, which is awesome. Like when getting my keys out at night. The phone is spectacular and I've had an s8+. It's my fav. You prob could map the squeeze to answer phone. But I know you could answer with push of a button. Just remap the fourth hidden nav button maybe.
Just wanted to findout your thoughts those who've used oneplus 5t or the new oneplus 6. What are your day to day usage views and observations in comparison to the pixel 2 xl. For me first I immediately noticed the pixel does get warm as am on the latest beta. Android p is also definitely smooth and what I miss the most from oneplus is the dash charging that thing is quick. It's too early for me to comment about the performance changes between the devices so I would really appreciate your views around performance in particular thanks.
Had a Pixel 2 XL, got a OnePlus 6, sold it and now I'm back with the Pixel 2 XL. Things I miss from the OP6 are the display (mostly because of the black crush in most pixel 2 xl displays), dash charging and the headphone jack. Other than that the Pixel 2 XL is better in every way for me.
EDIT: I really didn't notice much of a performance difference. I think the OP6 is a little faster but the Pixel 2 XL is smoother.

Basically everything except for the three things I mentioned. Battery life was about equal and I couldn't really notice the improved 845. The camera and software are so much better on the Pixel. I also like the panda color way better than any of the OP6 variants. The notch also kind of bothered me. I'd say the only reasons for getting the OP6 are if you really care about the extra performance of the 845 like for playing games or something or if the price/headphone jack is really important to you.

It's kind of annoying. Hiding it definitely helps. I think I dislike it more than the average person so take my annoyance with it with a grain of salt. One thing that did reaaaallly annoy me is because the status bar is on the notch, and theres no fingerprint gesture, pulling down the notification shade was always a little annoying because it's very high on the screen, definitely not possible with one hand if your hands aren't that big.

OnePlus 5T
OnePlus6
Pixel XL
I currently own the Pixel 2XL.
I loved my OnePlus 5 and regret selling it to this day because it would have been a great backup phone to keep around.
I Didn't like the 5T because it had some strange screen inconsistencies, and the vibration motor felt very cheap and "loose".
I got the OnePlus 6, and ended up returning it within 7-8 days. It was a good phone, don't get me wrong, but I will explain why I returned it:
The Camera
Probably the biggest reason. I don't know if it's because I'm spoiled with the 2XL's camera, but the 6's felt slightly below average.
The Notch
This didn't bother me too much as I am quite indifferent about it, however, losing the ability for centre clock is what bugged me.
The Vibration Motor
Similar to the 5T, the vibration motor feels very cheap and "loose" if that makes sense. Again, maybe I'm spoiled with the 2XL's vibration, but it is far more superior than the 6.
Development
I'm no developer by any means, however, I am aware that the introduction of the A/B slots causes for some challenging custom development. I had no idea the OnePlus 6 was going to follow this trend. I'm sure there will still be tons of custom development available for that phone, however, I would have preferred if it didn't have this A/B layout.
Price
In Canada, the device was roughly $890 taxes in, with a glass screen protector. Definitely not in the budget range, especially given the fact that I got my 2XL second-hand for only $750!
Speakers
Despite some speaker rattling issues and whatnot, the 2XL still has much better speakers than the 6. Front-firing and two of them instead of one automatically makes it much better.
I do miss Dash Charge though. However, charging times aren't extremely important to me as I'm always around a charger (two in the house, one in the car, and also have a 26k mah power bank).
The 6 did seem faster in terms of things like app launches (it spent less time on the splash screen compared to the 2XL). But that was about it; with my animation scale set to 0.3x, the 2XL feels just as fast.
I'm going to stick with my 2XL for the time being

I have a few days left before I can return my pixel 3 XL. To be fine it works perfectly fine without the issues other folks have mentioned other than it aggressively closes Pandora.
Notch doesn't bother me but I admit I like the overall 6t screen to body ratio and smaller notch.

Nope. Honestly, I am very happy with the Pixel 3 XL. Whatever issues people have or I have seen being reported are all software issues which will get fixed with OTAs. As for the OP 6t, no IP rating, software updates are slow no matter how close to stock they try to keep it, camera comparisons are out on a lot of sites and YT videos: Pixel 3 XL still better without any doubt, no wireless charging..right? ( I am not sure)..
Also, I traded in my 2 XL, so got $325 there, plus customers who pre ordered are getting $50 Store credit soon. So, that is around $622 for the 3 XL. I really wouldn't just consider price as a deciding factor as to which phone to buy.
The ram issue is a software issue, I personally don't have it even when I tried to replicate the issue. The only thing I would say thats better on the 6T is the extra features you get with oxygen OS, otherwise you will be losing a lot with things like the camera, stereo speakers, IP68, wireless charging and fast updates.
TBH the only feature the OP6T has that I would want is the under display fingerprint reader. Even still, the fingerprint reader on the back of the Pixel 3 is super fast and I don't seem to have to be as precise with my finger placement as I did on my Note 8 (I would commonly get the "make sure you finger covers the entire sensor" error on the N8 but the Pixel 3 doesn't seem to care). I also really missed having wireless charging with my P20 Pro and I love my Pixel stand.
At that point, the main thing the OP6T seems to have is a cheaper price (several hundred dollars, could easily be attractive to many people) and more RAM (6GB or 8GB) but I'm not having any RAM issues with my 3 XL. Also, I already sold my previous phone to a coworker, so I would be without a phone if I tried to return the Pixel 3 XL and order a OP6T instead. So, overall, I'm just gonna stick with the 3 XL, though I admit the OP6T seems like a very solid device at a great price.

OnePlus 6T looks like a really good phone, especially for the price. But honestly, I am very satisfied with my Pixel 3 XL, it's a very nice phone, yeah the notch sucks, but other than that, I really like the 3 XL;
- Display is great, and a major step from my 2 XL's screen
- Stock Android runs fluid SMOOTH
- Dual speakers sound loud and clear
- Wireless charging which I really don't care about, is actually nice to have now

I'm in the same boat as you. Not returning my Pixel but I am ordering the 6t tomorrow morning at 9:00am directly from OnePlus.
In addition I'm also using my jump on demand to get rid of my LG v30 and getting a 6t through T-Mobile as well.
I'm likely going to order the 6t tomorrow as well, so I can compare both devices side by side. That is IF I ever get my Pixel, lol. Then I'll just return which ever one I don't want
No way. The price is amazing for a phone with flagship CPU and RAM. BUT, I need a great screen, a great camera (have kids), release day updates, and I really like the wireless charging and pixel stand, and the dual front facing speakers. I actually perceive it as being the better phone, not just in terms of value, better outright. So why didn't I buy that? I used to get a new phone every spring and fall, sometimes more than one during the spring or fall releases. Phones have gotten so good now that I actually kept my 5T for a full year, just couldn't' see anything to buy that felt like a real upgrade. First time since cell phones were a thing and being an old man I go all the back to the beginning when I say that. Anyhow the only reason I got rid of the 5T was because I had become bored with it. I in no way was buying added capability because this phone works no better than the phone it replaced and I knew that going in. The same would would be true of the 6T, it wouldn't have done anything to improve my life day to day. All this means the reason I decided on the Pixel was simply it was out sooner and I was bored with the 5T. If the 6T had been released before this one I would have bought it. Either way I wouldn't have lost sleep, I'd have a great phone that is a pleasure to use and completely capable of handling everything I do with ease.
All that said the bottom line is moving over to the 6T would mean I'd have to hassle with returning this one and getting that one and I don't see it making any difference in my level of satisfaction even if I do think this isn't quite the best phone money can buy for my use case. Come spring though lol, well, you guys know how it goes...

No way. I was planning on getting either note 9, P3 or 6t in the beginning of the year. After passing on N9 and seeing leaks of P3 xl I was sure I'd end up with 6t. Now, not even a thought of canceling xl order. Can't wait for my pixel
It looks like a great phone and has a good price but I'm very happy with my Pixel 3xl and wouldn't sell it to purchase a 6t. The 6t doesn't have features that are super important to me such as an amazing camera and fast software updates. Also while the under screen finger print scanner is VERY cool it seems like a solution in search of a problem to me. In my opinion there is no better spot for a fingerprint scanner then the back of the phone. I wouldn't trade the back scanner for an under screen scanner but would gladly take a phone with both. That way you could also easily unlock your phone when it is placed on a flat surface.
Just the opposite, I dislike the back scanner which I find no easier to use in any scenario but cant be used at all from the desk. I'm thinking they wont be easy to find in a few years now that the under screen tech is starting to get sorted out. We know Apple is still working toward it based on recent patent activity and this side of the industry is already appearing to be headed that way without the added push. Once apple goes to fingerprint for unlock and face for two factor authentication everyone left making an android phone will jump in on under screen scanning if they haven't already. The handwriting is on the wall. And no, I'm not mistaking my opinion or guesses about where this is all headed for fact, I recognize some have made friends with back scanners and are thinking/hopeful I'm full of crap. They may be right, we'll see.
the 1+6T looks like a pretty cool phone. T-Mobile is offering 300 off if you trade in some galaxies and iphones. that means the 6T would come out to 280.
I may trade in an old iphone 6 to check this phone out. I heard the fingerprint sensor is faster than the vivo nex s which I just sold.
i've ordered the 3xl after debating whether to get the 6T but Google keep messing about with the delivery dates, so not sure when going to get as now delayed to 15-16 Nov even though if go to there website it says new orders dispatched on Monday 5th November.
I like the 6T but it's mainly the updates I want on a regular basis so reason why I've gone for the Pixel 3XL but if Google keep delaying I may end up cancelling until they sort their deliveries out

Well, now that got the ONEPLUS 6T and I thought my screen brightness on my 3XL is lower compared to my LG V40, then you'll be disappointed coz my 1+6T is much dimmer esp under the sun, you need to disable the adaptive brightness then krank up the brightness to high. Glad didn't return my 3XL yet, gonna test this 6T first. Good thing I think is the multitasking on this one got 8GB RAM, snappiness is par with PIXEL just the RAM management and maybe price. And I can noticed the clarity on my 3XL is way better than 6T, and 3XL is I think wider, correct me if I'm wrong.

I had both phones.
In my opinion both are great phones with great performance. I had the 8/128 version on OP5T and it was blazing fast. But the camera was the thing i switched to Pïxel 2 XL.
Now i love it and to be honest i dont see much difference in performace. But i use it mostly for browsing, youtube and whastapp. And debugging my apps so i dont give it a hard time also.

The camera of 1+5t is disappointed compere the pixel.
Beside that is a good phone.

Pixel is better anyday. You will get two more major updates. That should say it all
2XL hands down. Had a OP5, camera was garbage and gcam ports have a million problems on OP5/T. Front facing speakers, 1440p screen, ip67, better vibration motor (very important to me), more premium design, killer camera.
I had the OP 5T and it was rock solid. Very good batterylife for me, blazing fast and OP gives you Major updates and small updates regulary. Now i own a Pixel 2XL and so far its very nice and i Like it a Lot.
Pro's for the OP 5T:
Batterylife
Performance (2GB of more RAM are noticable imo)
Faster FP unlock + stunning fast Face Unlock
Pro's for the Pixel 2XL:
Much better camera
More premium feel (tho the OP 5T feels nice too)
Pixel Features (free Photos Upload etc.)
Always Up to Date Android (with still one more big Update to come at a Minimum and more then 1.5 years of Security Updates)
So all in all i think if i had to buy a new phone and they would have the same price i think i would go for the Pixel 2 XL again. If i could get the OP 6 or 6T for the price i think i would go with Them, because I really Like more batterylife and with gcam port you can get good Photos Out of their camera too and Performance is better

Yes, even the 1+6 has a better screen than the pixel 2 XL due to the blue hue and screen is bad if you have your brightness all the way down with nightmode on in a dark room. Look closely at the screen and it looks "dusty". My panda slows down a ton when I'm updating apps once a week (about 50 updates on average) and if I try to play a game or open an app. The 1+6 and 1+5t on the other hand can take the same work load and still zoom by without a problem. For me headphone jack is really nice to have. I understand Manufacturers wanting to push people to buy their Bluetooth items, but why not give the consumer the liberty of choosing "hey do I want to use my 3.5mm jack or Bluetooth headset today?".

Heck right now I've come back to the Pixel XL 2 from the OnePlus 6T. I added oneplus gestures so I could at least have that feature that I liked so much on the Pixel. It's been updated and works a lot better than before.

I'm not sure about 5t screen but yeah 6 might be better. The blue tint doesn't bother me or the black smearing as such. The grain is irritating though. My pixel never slowed down like yours though. Ah well it's debatable when it comes to 3.5mm jack. One plus will also move towards excluding it eventually, you still get an adapter? I've attached mine to my earphones if i ever need them. I use wireless almost all the time though.
I don't know there is something about pixel which no manufacturer can make you feel. The camera obviously is the best in the world. I think you will get more updates with 2xl than with one plus. Also Google will optimise it for pixel more for obvious reasons

Oh come on now you are just exaggerating ... Battery life is better in pixel 2xl , but that depends on your usage as well. I don't see any stutters in my pixel 2xl so I've no complaints regarding performance either. Ram is a hardware and can't be changed, that's our conscious decision.

Regarding the headphone jack, you are right: People who use it extensively probably won't touch a Pixel 2 XL. I personally have never ever used the jack on any phone I had, so it's a non-issue.
The screen on the Pixel 2 XL is a matter of luck: My phone is one of the first ones manufactured (in October 2017), and its screen was OK. I got a replacement screen after dropping my phone, and this one is much better. Hardly any blue shift and better colors (I was really surprised after the replacement!).
I have no problems with app updates, everything works fine. But I rarely game, so YMMV depending on your usage.
But the Pixel 2 XL has the best software I have ever seen on any phone, this is my first phone where I use the stock ROM as-is ( but with Magisk, TWRP and Substratum). It is rock solid, has a very good battery runtime and is super smooth. So I will stick to Pixels for the time being - this also is the first phone where I don't see a need for replacing it after 1 1/2 years.
If the Pixel 4 doesn't have some earth-shattering improvements, I'll stick with my 2 XL as long as it lasts...

It's a usage based comparison, not an isolated opinion. Besides, I didn't say Pixel 2 XL fluidity is "bad" I said OnePlus 5T is better and it definitely is.

That's what i said as well it's usage based but as a general comparison on gsm arena.. 2xl scores over 5t.
I never said that either but 2xl is at a point where you don't really care about the fluidity much because it's already very smooth. The animations may make it look a bit slow but if you disable them you've an equal experience. Who cares about something less than a second. Only the 3.5mm jack is an advantage

I've had 4 Pixel 2 XLs from September to December builds. The December ones are definitely better but still suffer from blotching at low brightness in dark rooms and have the grainy/dusty screens that I described earlier. I agree that the pixel has some of the best software since it's pure, but I still believe OnePlus had done a better job at software than Google from 1+6 onward. This is definitely not the 1st phone I've kept stock. You should give OneUI on a Note 9 a shot. It's unbelievably smooth as butter and the functionality of it is amazing.
At the end, to each their own. And it's true what you said that your milage and experience will vary. The one true reason I come back to the pixels is strictly the camera which is amazing. I will try to find a good offer on a Pixel 3 XL to see how much the pixel has improved with the SD 845

A key concern should be software updates ..5t can't compete..OnePlus and all other non-pixels are in the milking mode,milk a new release to the max, when sales get slow release a new phone and forget about the older ones

I agree. On my panda 2xl, which i got a month ago, the black crush and ghosting with low screen brightness is quite bad. At least disabling adaptive brightness "solves" the issue. Blue shift is minimal though.
With low brightness, even my old Galaxy S6 behaves much better than the pixel 2 xl. The op6 also uses a Samsung oled panel.
I have had the Pixel 2 XL for a bit over a year now. Allready swapped it 2 times (Audio problems and Screen Problems) and begin to get annoyed by some aspects of it :
- The 3D-Wrapped-***-screen - This screen is bad. I slowly get used to it but find myself put off by how the colors look and how my 6P had a better screen. Thanks to the absurd 2.75D Screen curvature I cant get a proper Glass cover for it and have settled on a plastic protector. It looks horrible.
- Software bugs -> How come I still get random bugs / freezes on a Google Phone with Google software ? Why do icons sometimes disappear in the recents view ?
- Sound -> I loved the stereo speakers on the 6P, I hate those on the 2XL.
And many other gripes...
I have two choices right now :
- continue to RMA the phone each time something breaks (speakers are at it again I believe) and finaly get my money back after 4-5 times, like the 6P in the end (not a bad deal if you think about it).
- sell it and get somethign else (OnePlus 6 / 6T ? Pocophone F1 ? Mi 9 ? Other ?)
What are the aspects you hate on this phone ? Which one has you drooling right now ? Is there even still a phone with a flat screen (realy dont get this idiotic trend... same as glass backs without NFC / Wireless charging...)

I don't have software bugs on my Pixel 2 XL - no freezes, no disappearing icons, nothing. Works like a clockwork :good:
My speakers are decent, also no problems. I don't use them extensively, though. The screen is better after I had to replace it (dropped the phone on solid tiles), my original screen was from October 2017. But the original one was not too bad, I got used to it.
I never would replace my phone with a non-Google phone - never had such good software on an Android device. Not to speak of fast updates, some phones just got Android P and I can install Q meanwhile.
Remove that screen protector!
A few scratch still look 10000 times better than any screen protector

Samsung 10e seems to be phone for you if you are looking for one with a flat screen. Oneplus 6t is a good option too but doesn't have wireless charging and camera is mediocre compared to pixel.

If S10's camera is anything like the S9, then it's not much better than the 6t... It's amazing for videos, but for stills, nothing beats the Pixel (2 and 3)... This is coming from a photographer...

Yeah I'm aware of that. Pixel produces the most natural looking pictures.
It's a REALLY tough decision, in my opinion. I've been debating the same thing for a couple weeks now too. My big thing is front facing speakers, an absolute must for me. I've seriously considered the Razer 2 but I've recently decided against it. I have the opportunity to get a Pixel 3XL for next to nothing. I'll probably hop on that train. I love this phone too. I'm just ready to move on. My wife just got the S10+.... that's what's motivating me to upgrade. Beautiful phone but I need more freedom than what a Snapdragon Sammy provides...
I don't hate anything about the 2xl. The screen did have some issues but everything has been perfect with the warranty replacement I received last November. A headphone jack would be nice but not a deal breaker with the improvements in wireless earbuds. The front speakers weren't any better on my 6P and it felt like a less reliable phone due to potential battery and bootloop issues. I prefer the overall design and build quality of the 2xl. I'll wait for the Pixel 4 before I think about a new phone.

This sums up my situation perfectly. My 2xl is working fantastic and no current phones really give me that special feeling. Patiently waiting for pixel 4xl
1. Never used a screen protector since I got the phone October 2017. Thought I would miss it since I had been using tempered glass for years but I don't and my screen is just fine.
2. No bugs or freezes here. The only time I ever even restart is the monthly updates. Way better aging experience than my previous Nexus 5X or any other phone as a matter of fact.
3. It's stereo speakers and gets loud and clear enough. If I want louder I cast it to my any number of speaker I have around the house.

Like the above post, same feelings here.
The screen protector dilemma is my biggest issue. Searching Amazon, it's hard to find a good one. I really don't want to purchase another one, so I've been rocking the same screen protector for quite some time, even though it's dirty. I don't watch anything on here worth quality(Netflix, Hulu, etc) and mainly use Bluetooth headphones or Bluetooth speakers.
Just recently, my father has gotten an S10 through those buy 1 and get 1 deals, but it's too complicated for him, so I've been thinking of setting my Pixel up clean for him and swapping, but it's just hard to leave Google after being with them for so long, lol.

Before i ordered the pixel 2 xl, i read its review on gsmarena and this was quoted " overall, we're looking at some of the best audio outputs we've ever seen. " After purchase, i started seeing all sorts of negative reviews concerning it's audio quality using wired headphones.
On one hand, i am filled with excitement that i will be owning this great phone and on the other , i am confused, saying to myself, what have you just done?
As real owners of this device, i felt that this is the right place to be. Please can someone speak his mind? Thanks.

I come back to pixel for three things
1) camera 2) software which is best among android 3) speedy update s
I hate or dislike few things
)Ear piece is of poor quality i.e low volume and call clarity is average ..it was so great on iphone xr
2) loudspeaker is not good as compare to competitors i.e s9 plus, iphone , U11 etc, p20 pro etc. Its same for audio output from headphone. I will not recommend this phone to music lovers
3) brightness is low . You really need to drag the brightness slider to maximum to make it bright especially indoor
4) design is boring but then its more practical
So i guess every phone will have its pros and cons and no phone will be perfect in every thing . I am saying this after using so many flagships and switching from one to others ..there will be always some compromise so just look what matter to you most in phone and then select phone based on those requirements
