So apparently after an update to Google play music a couple weeks ago it started using more battery, I'm a delivery driver so I use it for music everyday and it never used a lot of battery but now it is using a lot of battery in my 8 hour shift. I have 8.1 and I used to get off work and my phone would still be at 85% (yes I had great battery life) and now when I have been getting off I have been at around 45% was just wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this.
Are you using an Adblocker? I had the same issue. After examining the logs, I saw that Play Music is constantly trying to reach googleadservices.com:
01-06 19:24:51.565 W/GoogleTagManager(6264): Failed to connect to www.googleadservices.com/0.0.0.0:443
After whitelisting googleadservices.com, the issue was resolved. Google needs to do something about that, cause that's just horrible coding.

has anyone had a problem like this? i have had pretty awful battery life overall and bought the extended battery. have been having consistent battery life until today. i am constantly getting a battery drain today with minimal usage of the phone. i have probably lost like 50% of the battery today with the screen off and not being used. havent downloaded anything except amazon's app of the day this morning, which i subsequently uninstalled. haven't played any games, viewed maybe 10 web pages, sent about 100 sms messages, uploaded 3 pictures to the web (from the phone). most data usage was on wireless. cant figure out anything in particular that i thought would do it. bought modern combat 2, nova 2 hd and some other gameloft game yesterday but downloaded the files for them yesterday. tried rebooting with no difference after i rebooted.
anyone else have any insight? thanks!
Have you checked your battery usage in settings?
screen and android OS are the most, which is what it usually shows. nothing else unusual shows up and nothing suspicious is on the list either
Try opening the camera app, and closing it again.
When I look at the battery usage, I can see Mediaserver is below screen in terms of battery usage.
Any idea what it is?

Same here man

I recall it has something to do with corrupted media file (picture, music file etc) or failing to play streamed video. Reboot your phone and DO NOT start gallery, camera or anything that reads media files from phone. Use the phone and report back.
EDIT: I also recall this is an android issue, not spesifically HOX issue..
I did not have that on Galaxy Nexus, now it's there on One X, despite using it in the same manner, same apps. Hopefully it's simply some software bug.
I'll try restarting later today...
It seems to start on my HOX when I plug it into my monitor through the HDMI.
Unfortunately, even with the power adapter plugged into the HDMI adapter, it still uses more power than it can get through charging, which is really rather annoying and makes it pretty pointless in having HDMI out. How can they have designed it this way?
mediaserver system wakelock
Hi, i am having a nightmare with the system (*wakelock*) mediaserver process. Everytime i start listening to music either through stock music player, poweramp, winamp or realplayer, I can see it burning my battery.
I am using Badass battery monitor app. I tried soft resets multiple times but the problem appears again everytime i play music. It is using far more battery % than the music app itself.
I have deleted all music and pictures on my phone, leaving only the ones that came with phone, but the problem still crops up when i play the music.
On my first day of use I managed to get good battery hours.

then went downhill with mediaserver...

any ideas?
bump. anyone?
today i got
18.4% system (*wakelock*) -- it had CPU usage 1h 23m, keep awake 1h 35m, number of wakelocks 31
6.2% Music.
40% screen.
I've been having the same problem on my Galaxy Nexus. It has been very frustrating because my battery will last only about 4/5 hours with light - moderate usage. For the life of me I cannot figure out what is causing this wakelock all of a sudden. My phone was completely fine on 4.03
Hello,
I have the same problem. I have just charged my phone. And one hour later the Mediaserver has used 3% of the battery.
I have make one "normal" phone calls, sent 3 text messages and send 2 messages with Viber.
I haven't actively used "anything" (as far as I know) that uses a mediaserver?!
I'm having a xperia z1 compact and been using it since last 9 months with very minor bugs which most of you'll agree like the camera bug.
But since last 2 weeks my phone is overheating even for moderate usage and slight battery drain. Even while playing small games like subway surf or even browsing through imdb makes the phone real hot like I can make an omelette on its back.
Does anyone else have this problem? Or is it specific to my phone only?
Is it a good option to give it to the service centre as it's still in warranty nor should I not bother since it's not a qualitative problem.I don't use it for hardcore gaming (I don't have any). I use our only for browsing, music and social networking. But this recent overheating problem is bothering
Also is there a chance that battery might be dying since my battery backup has also decreased by around 30 %
Go to the battery settings and check if there is an app that causes the drain.
Sometimes nova launcher starts behaving this way for me but it can be fixed by clearing the app data and reimporting the settings.
Facebook is using around 30% of the battery
Doesn't rebooting clear data, because I usually reboot one once in 2days
My battery usage also shows WiFi- on the whole time which wasn't true. This happened today only though
i had to uninstall facebook it was destroying my battery for some reason. It's not doing this on my nexus 7 though
Facebook consumes a lot battery and memory. I noticed when i using fb my getting hotter
I'm getting huge battery drain from Google play services on my Z5, just wondered if anyone had tried GServiceFix and if there were any adverse effects on the watch connection?
if not I guess I'll be guinea pig
I used it since Google Play Services were acting up (28% battery vs. 9% battery used by the screen). It didn't fix anything for me, Google Play Services were draining battery still after the fix. Issues are now gone since I updated my SGS6 to 6.0.1. though.
I have had this issue basically since I got my Pixel XL. I rooted and put on EX kernel as soon as they were available, so I don't know if the issue existed prior to that.
Basically, whenever GPM is not even playing music, and the notification is dismissed, CPU 1 and sometimes 2 (both little cores), will remain at 1.6GHz, with CPU 1 staying near 100% usage. CPUs 3 and 4 will show relatively low usage, near 10%-20%, but will constantly hover near their maximum 2+GHz clock speeds.
For awhile I didn't know what was causing this. One day I started killing apps and checking System Monitor each time to see what affected it. Eventually I determined it was GPM. Without fail, every time this issue is present, if I just open up Recent Apps, or the application manager, and swipe away or force close GPM, my phone immediately goes back to normal operation.
This is an annoying way to have to fix this. I use GPM several times a day.
Having to kill the app, and remember to do it, is ridiculous. Has anyone else had this issue? I haven't seen it posted anywhere. I don't even have a clue of what could be going on or how to resolve it.
Hey buddy, I've been having the same issue for a couple months now as well. I'm using a Note 4, so it's not specific to your phone. I have not been able to find any fix though :/ Have you had any luck?
Unfortunately, it seems it's not a widespread issue, not too many people complaining on the interwebz.
Question to you guys. Does GPM show up in your battery stats? It does not show up in mine but I am not getting good battery life. I have the regular Pixel, am not a heavy user, and can't get through a full day without a charge mid day. Wondering if this issue is causing my bad battery life?
Thank you.
I use GPM on my way to and from work and don't have any issues with it.
I have the same problem on the oneplus 3T. Core 3 and 4 runs at maz 24/7 while playing google play music.
