[Q] battery draining constantly all day? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

has anyone had a problem like this? i have had pretty awful battery life overall and bought the extended battery. have been having consistent battery life until today. i am constantly getting a battery drain today with minimal usage of the phone. i have probably lost like 50% of the battery today with the screen off and not being used. havent downloaded anything except amazon's app of the day this morning, which i subsequently uninstalled. haven't played any games, viewed maybe 10 web pages, sent about 100 sms messages, uploaded 3 pictures to the web (from the phone). most data usage was on wireless. cant figure out anything in particular that i thought would do it. bought modern combat 2, nova 2 hd and some other gameloft game yesterday but downloaded the files for them yesterday. tried rebooting with no difference after i rebooted.
anyone else have any insight? thanks!

Have you checked your battery usage in settings?

screen and android OS are the most, which is what it usually shows. nothing else unusual shows up and nothing suspicious is on the list either

Try opening the camera app, and closing it again.

[Q] Battery Life

I'm sure another battery life thread exist but the search function is not working for some odd reason.
Anyhow, I recently bought this device(32 GB) model on Ebay and it is a refurbished edition. I updated it to the latest 4.4.2 and the device is amazing. However, one issue that disappoints me is the battery life. It lasts around 5-6 hours if I'm constantly browsing the web and watching videos. To charge it, it takes a good 7 hours. I looked at the battery and noticed that Android OS was responsible for 56% of the battery drainage. I notice the back of tablet(near the camera) getting very hot when I was playing some games as well.
I'm really trying to push this things to the limits to check to see if it's faulty so I can return it before the 14 days is up. My questions are, what is the typical battery life you users experience and how long does it usually take you users to charge it? Also, my Android OS has never taken up that much battery---is this normal? If not, how can I fix it?
Thanks!
Streaming videos kills battery in general but that's still high battery usage for Android OS. I suggest you invest BetterBatteryStats from the play store and see if something else is causing your battery drain. Post some screen shots when you get the app. I
My Android OS battery utilization is sitting at 7% at the moment. I don't stream much data, and but I think high Android OS battery utilization has more to do with background data than video or music streaming anyway
Few things to improve battery life in general is to disable location reporting and location history in GPS menu. Better yet, but disable GPS in general. Turn off the setting in the advanced wifi menu that let's apps scan wifi even if it's off for location data. Google+ and hangouts are big drainers... Disable or unistall them is you can or at least don't let them sync data. Go to Google account setting and disable syncing of anything you don't needs.
Edit: I just stream 1.5hrs (1.3gb data) of Netflix and my Android OS battery usage didn't go up. It's gotta be a rogue process taking CPU cycles/checking location/sending lots of data. Install BBS and see what's causing it. More than 7hrs of screen time for me today and I still have 25% battery left.

Usage = 10hrs
Charge Time = 4-5hrs.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will go ahead and d/l that app and see how it goes. I'll put up some screenshots and try to see if we can get to the bottom of it.

[Q] LG G3 5.0, very hot, battery barely lasts a day on minimal use

Hi, my g3 has this problem where the battery seems to drain very fast on moderate to minimal use. When it's in use I use it for browsing the Internet and maybe Facebook, nothing too energy burning, yet it burns the battery like I'm using it for a demanding task. The battery usage has nothing unusual (I don't think) just 39% and the rest is split between tasks. What might be causing this? Since the start of typing this thread is gone from 25 percent to 8 percent, and is very hot again. What might be causing this?
LG G3 d855
16 gb
2gb ram
Android 5.0
Also has one other problem where there is 5gb being used in the misc section for 'system' is this normal? Because that's a large portion of the 16gb gone.
Thanks in advance.
hi, did you make a hard reset to your phone after upgrading to 5.0?
I bought the phone with it all installed so I can only presume that they did that themselves, it was definitely factory reset when I bought it, I know that much.

I have to revive this thread because the battery life on this phone just renders it useless. I temporarily downgraded from lollipop to kitkat which improved the battery life hugely, I've now rooted it and installed a custom rom (cloudyg3) and the battery life is once again awful. Can anyone suggest anything? The phone is used on and off throughout the day, but even on standby it burns the battery.
Thanks

Use battery info in setting to find out which app eat more battery. After that remove that app (if you dont need it, of course)

The screen uses the most at 29 percent followed by messenger at 13 percent and Spotify at 10 percent, I use Spotify most the time, messenger is quite important too. Also the battery seems to have a rapid drain directly after its been on charge, that then levels out after a good 30 percent is gone.

This might sound odd, but have you checked your accounts in settings to make sure nothing is syncing indefinitely? I've had several customers with issues related to their Google account (or sometimes other accounts on the phone) constantly attempting to sync without ever completing. For example, under one customer's Google account settings, the sync wheel next to "Sync Contacts" would never stop spinning (or would remain stuck on the screen). His phone was quite warm, and his battery life was awful.
Unchecking the affected box, rebooting the phone, and re-enabling sync AFTER ensuring that the phone wasn't heating up for any other reason appeared to fix the issue. I've seen similar issues with non-Google accounts as well.

It's definitely not a syncing problem, there isn't really much for my phone to sync to be honest, and i rarely get the syncing wheel on the screen.
Today, my battery died in 2 hours from a full charge, all i was using it for was mapmyride (which tracked me using gps) and for some reason facebook messenger used 23% even though I haven't used it. I think i'm just going to downgrade to 4.4.4 i'm sick of these battery problems.
Poor Battery Life in LG G3 after 5.0 update
Hi I am using the same model and facing the same issue. I downgraded it to kitkat and rooted my phone and installed CM12 Rom. Now the battery life is very good..

[Q] Over heating problem!!!?

I'm having a xperia z1 compact and been using it since last 9 months with very minor bugs which most of you'll agree like the camera bug.
But since last 2 weeks my phone is overheating even for moderate usage and slight battery drain. Even while playing small games like subway surf or even browsing through imdb makes the phone real hot like I can make an omelette on its back.
Does anyone else have this problem? Or is it specific to my phone only?
Is it a good option to give it to the service centre as it's still in warranty nor should I not bother since it's not a qualitative problem.I don't use it for hardcore gaming (I don't have any). I use our only for browsing, music and social networking. But this recent overheating problem is bothering
Also is there a chance that battery might be dying since my battery backup has also decreased by around 30 %
Go to the battery settings and check if there is an app that causes the drain.
Sometimes nova launcher starts behaving this way for me but it can be fixed by clearing the app data and reimporting the settings.
Facebook is using around 30% of the battery
Doesn't rebooting clear data, because I usually reboot one once in 2days
My battery usage also shows WiFi- on the whole time which wasn't true. This happened today only though
i had to uninstall facebook it was destroying my battery for some reason. It's not doing this on my nexus 7 though
Facebook consumes a lot battery and memory. I noticed when i using fb my getting hotter

Google play music battery usage?

So apparently after an update to Google play music a couple weeks ago it started using more battery, I'm a delivery driver so I use it for music everyday and it never used a lot of battery but now it is using a lot of battery in my 8 hour shift. I have 8.1 and I used to get off work and my phone would still be at 85% (yes I had great battery life) and now when I have been getting off I have been at around 45% was just wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this.
Are you using an Adblocker? I had the same issue. After examining the logs, I saw that Play Music is constantly trying to reach googleadservices.com:
01-06 19:24:51.565 W/GoogleTagManager(6264): Failed to connect to www.googleadservices.com/0.0.0.0:443
After whitelisting googleadservices.com, the issue was resolved. Google needs to do something about that, cause that's just horrible coding.

Battery Drain Advice

Hi All
Disclaimer: I'm new to the forum so apologies if this is in the wrong discussion area etc!
I got my Galaxy S9 on Friday 9th, prior to that I had an LG G5 which is now gone. In the last few months of using my LG G5 the battery life was questionable - the phone would get hot (sometimes without even using it a lot) and the battery would drain by 30% an hour. I noticed, but didn't test fully, that Google Play Music seemed to really cane the battery and phone - i.e. was getting hot and draining quickly. As an example, I'd leave home at 7am taking it off charge at the last minute (100%) and get to my office at 9am and it'll be at 50% and very warm. Prior to that (can't exactly pinpoint when the drain started to really kick in) it would only drop to 85% - much more acceptable.
The G5 has a replaceable battery - 2800 if I recall . So I threw down £50 on an official LG site for a new slab of Lithium - slight improvement, but still terrible and warm. 55% instead of 50%.
"Right - time for a new phone" as I assumed that 2 years of app updates meant the CPU was lagging. Bagged a Galaxy S9 - today was my first commute into the office. Started on 100%, arrived at 55% with a 3000 battery! And it got super warm like the G5.
Most of that time I used Google Play Music, which according to AccuBattery the discharge speed was "33% per hour". Second was Google Chrome at 30% per hour (though I didn't use it much at all on the journey).
My question is - what logs can I check, or apps I can use, or something to find out what's going on? I need to test a few things of course to pinpoint the issue. If it helps - I restored from my G5 when I setup my S9.
seems like you might have have some options enabled in Google Play Music / chrome - that is keeping the phone awake
generally when you switch phones they apps and their settings get transferred automatically now - worth maybe uninstalling them for a day and see if you're still experiencing this issue
other than that it could be that your commute involves travelling thru areas of no signal where the phone keeps trying to find a signal - that can drain battery a lot

Thanks - I'll try that next time. Might also try a factory reset but not restore from the LG G5 backup to see what happens then.
how bright is your display? do you leave it on all your commute?
Got your wifi enabled which hunts for a signal even though you aren't using wifi? try turning it off. Same with location setting.
And how strong a signal do you have on your commute. Streaming lots of data on a really weak signal will kill battery, too.
Go into settings and see whats draining your battery.
Battery Drain Issue of S9 - Resolved
:laugh:Hi All,
I could resolve the Battery drain issue but not touching any other setting of the new phone by just disabling the backend data usage of all application expect few like Edge screen, Gmail, Flipboard etc... Now the android system power usage is back to 4-5%. Previously it was 21%-25%. So issue resolved. Need to find out the way to inform this to Samsung so they can identify which app is consuming full battery power.

Hi, i'm facing ridiculous drains too and factory resetting hasn't seemed to help. I'm trying your resolution, but I don't entirely understand you. Could you kindly guide step by step? also, if you mean going to optimise battery usage, when i go there and select the 'apps not optimized' all the apps there are greyed out therefore not allowing me to select them.
