Hi all!
Is there any Snapchat modules and tweaks left for rooted android phones? Like snaprefs? Casper? Snapchat++?
I am on the edge to get a OP5T, and this Will be the deciding factor!
Thank you.
Snaptools uses xposed. So can only use it on nougat and not Oreo for now
Alright! Is snaptools active and being updated?
To my knowledge,
- Snapchat++ is an iPhone jailbreak tweak (not sure if there is an Android equivalent) (I could be wrong though)
- Casper was shut down by the dev as he was about to get sued by Snapchat
- Snapprefs doesn't work anymore because it uses a really old version of Snapchat (I think 9.x) (I could be wrong about this as well though)
- Snaptools works with Snapchat 10.20.5 as I use it myself and it does require root and Xposed. Works really well imo and I got the paid version too!

Really it does not require root? That is quite the news!
But if i were to root is hard to get it up and running? Using magisk for instance.
And with all battery saving modules for Google play services etc then the battery life must be pretty impressing.

Thank you very much for the help
There's also a new patch that was released in a well known patching app that I can't really mention here. It appears to have been released for one of the most recent version of Snapchat, but I haven't been able to find any info about this specific patch or the coder. I haven't tried it out yet myself, but I'm pretty sure it probably requires root -- I don't think it needs Xposed though (although the Patcher app I'm talking about does have an Xposed component to make some stuff easier.)
Is there any current active tweaks
Is there any current active tweaks that support sharing images from camera roll?

Hi!
Im currently using a Z1C with the MX Rom 8.50 (awesome rom btw). After years of using Cyanogenmod I wanted to give the stock firmware a try, and the MX Rom seemed to be even better, as it is based on stock but with additional functionality.
But what I am missing from CM: the possibility of cutting permissions of specific apps, even system apps. Because I dont want to give all my data to every app I have on my phone. With Cyanogenmod I even blocked the google play services and several other google system apps with that.
Is it possible to get this done by app, or is it somehow exclusive to Cyanogenmod and some other AOSP-based roms?
The MX Rom comes pre rooted with Super SU (but I think the most of you people alredy know that, haha).
Regards
Don't know this ROM myself, but you should be able to install the Xposed framework and use Xprivacy with it. Despite using CM myself, I still use it because it gives you a much more detailed control and apps don't force quit when some permissions are withdrawn.
Wow, thank you. I dont know much about the Xposed Framework as I never used it before (didnt even know that it exists before I used the MX Rom, because there it is already preinstalled).
Xprivacy seems to be pretty awesome, thank you for this!
Xprivacy is great, although it seems that the dev has abandoned it for his other project netguard (no-root firewall) and no, apps WILL fc if you don't know what you're doing..

Yes sure, especially when taking away some of the "red" marked ones. But I was referring to some of the more "standard" permissions, since Xprivacy instead just uses fake data rather than just plain revoking the permission.
I was wondering if there was a way to block ads on youtube that would work on nougat? I used to have the xposed module on 6.0.1 but since xposed does not work on nougat, I cannot do that. If anyone has a solution that would be very appreciated!

If anyone is interested this did not work on my rooted pixel XL on nougat 7.1.1
Update: I made it work by putting the folder into /system/priv-app and then renaming the app to just YouTube. Then I used TWRP to change the folder permissions to 755 and the apps permissions to 644 thanks to the advice of another user.
Adblock: As a free extension., this add-on can stop the ads from being downloaded to your computer and makes pages load faster by preventing files from being downloaded automatically. It's the hottest one I have used.
Ghostery: A privacy and security browser extension that can protect blocking third-party tracking scripts that are used by websites to collect data on user behavior for advertising.
UBlock Origin: It’s said that uBlock uses significantly less resources than Adblock Plus. With fast speed and small occupation, it can help you block the ads effectively. However, comparing with ABP, this blocker can’t do the whole things ABP do.
But the fact is that some plug-ins will cause Youtube errors. The loss outweighs the gain, sometimes.
Hi,
I'm wondering what your experiences are with
Magisk or SuperSU for HTC ONE M9 7.0 NOUGAT?
(I'm on CID: VODAP100) :silly:
Which was better for you personally, and have you experienced any any issues with updates to their binaries or problems during installation, or perhaps problems with Google Pay and NFC beam for example?
Thanks for your input. :highfive:
I'm using Magisk 14.0 and NFC is working fine. I stopped using SuperSU when ViperOne M9 6.0 got released (1st February 2017).
I can't say anything about android pay since it's not supported in my country. Pokémon Go (which is relying on safety-net, too) is working fine, though.

I see, so Magisk is pre-installed with ViperOne M9 6.0.
I've read that Google Pay won't work with Custom ROMs, which is a shame because it sounds like a good ROM from what I have heard.
Perhaps Google allows rooting in Germany as Germany doesn't use Google Pay. In the UK Google Pay is very popular, and so is using NFC on the transport system. Hmmm, so it could be country specific as to whether NFC gets turned off after rooting. Maybe there is a workaround. :good:
Having said that, I've read that Google Play lists devices with unlocked bootloaders as "Uncertified", yet, I have an unlocked bootloader (via HTCdev/not sure if that makes a difference) and Google Play says "Certified", and as you say, Pokémon is working for you (which uses SafetyNet) so perhaps there won't be an issue but it's rather hit and miss as to what will happen it seems.
Maybe it will say "Not Certified" after Google Pay is opened and granted permission to scan device though, who can say for sure, I don't know. One thing I do know is that my software version has been reported by many to have encryption problems pertaining to the reading of the IMEI after rooting. I've read that in a few places on the internet, that's why I'm trying to get as much info as possible beforehand.
Do you think Magisk 14 is okay for me to flash via TWRP with my current Android version?
I'd really like to get rid of the Vodafone bloatware on my HTC, and more importantly try some battery tweaks but I'd really like to use all phone feature if possible after rooting. (Such as NFC and Google Pay. I'm surprised Google hasn't made a public list of what will work and what will not). Google!
It's actually the first time that I ever hear of NFC not working on a rooted M9 and I highly doubt that that's true.
There are no country-specific differences in regard to root and the hardware of your phone. It might be that the app doesn't allow you to activate NFC (that's an assumption I don't know that for sure since I've never used the app) but the NFC chip itself doesn't get affected by rooting this phone.
Edit: And I haven't heard of phones that lose their IMEI due to root, either. You can create problems by flashing incompatible roms but not by rooting the device.
Edit2: You need to be aware that not all SuperSU versions are compatible with this phone, though. However, the incompatible ones only create a bootloop.

Yes I agree, I don't think the NFC chip itself is affected either.
From what I've read, the NFC option ends up "Greyed Out" in some cases. What I meant when I said "Country Specific" was, that perhaps in cases where it does get "Greyed Out", that maybe it happens if a user roots their phone in a country where Google Pay is available to use. (Just a hypothesis).

I trust your knowledge. In my case though, it happened to me and I had not introduced any new ROM ever. I simply unlocked the bootloader on HTCdev. The phone reset to its own recovery factory image after bootloader unlock, but with missing radio and IMEI. It had never been unlocked before, no new image. Others on the internet said it's something to do with the capabilities encryption reading of some versions of SuperSU on this exact phone Software – Nougat 7.0 CID: VODAP100. A bit of a mystery. I'm not an expert but I know I didn't download or backup any image or ROM of any kind. It was already on it, I just unlocked it. Fixed now though thanks to the info here. Great forum. :good:

Yes I've heard that too. I think this one in the screenshot is OK for my version, would you ever use Kingroot yourself? I'm having a slight issue with SuperSU though as you can see. :silly: LOL  hmmm I'm really tempted to use Magisk 14 now.
↓
I think it should be 5.67 MB, not "KB" and because of that it's saying 16000+ % downloaded and it wouldn't stop downloading. (screenshot).
Only use Kingroot or any other one-click-root method if you need some nasty malware on your PC and/or smartphone (depending on the version you use).
The latest SuperSU version I've flashed myself was 2.79 SR3.

I've heard that too. Thanks for confirming.
May I ask, what in your experience is the best app to use to extend battery life on the HTC One M9?
I'm torn between not rooting and trying Naptime via "Dump" or trying Magisk 14 with a Magisk Module but then the other side of me says, ah to hell with it just root and Greenify then you can install Adaway too. :silly:
These are the Devs instructions to use DUMP in case anyone is wondering:
"To use Naptime's features without Root you need to grant it DUMP permission via ADB on your computer by executing this command:
adb -d shell pm grant com.franco.doze android.permission.DUMP
You also need to grant WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS permission:
adb -d shell pm grant com.franco.doze android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS".
(Edit: The app should be force closed either manually or by running this command from adb after the others commands mentioned above. Originally just the two commands above were at the Google Play description, but the app notified (on opening it) that it needs the force close command :
adb -d shell am force-stop com.franco.doze )
What do you think? I'd also be interested to know what your favourite apps are in general. You seem like you probably know some great ones.
Titanium Backup.
I actually don't think that battery saver apps are worth installing. When an app gets started the battery usage is higher than during the normal usage of the app. Therefore, keeping an app active and re-opening it needs less battery capacity than always killing the app (e.g. with greenify) and restarting it at a later point. In general android is capable enough to handle its ram and the battery on its own.
The best advice I can give you is uninstalling all apps that you don't need and stay away from YouTube, Facebook and all those other bad developed social media apps that drain your battery. That's why I mentioned TiBa at the beginning of the post.
On the other hand this device's release date lies more than 2 years in the past. You mustn't expect any great usage times per battery cycle, anymore, due to the age of the hardware. Batteries don't last forever.
I don't use any fancy apps. Only adaway, TiBa, solid explorer and the venom tweaks of ViperOne M9 require root.

Those are excellent apps.
I wish I could install hosts via adb or Adaway itself via that command on NOUGAT but I can't I don't think.
I use Adaway on my Moto G and it is brilliant.
I prefer an old version of ES File explorer as I'm just familiar with it, but that one you have is great too. Titanium Backup I've always found a little complex.
I'm going to give Naptime a go, I agree force closing apps that are restarted often uses a lot of resources but I'd like an option to turn the phone to a high sleep mode, but still recieve some push notifications I've installed Naptime (before I seen your response) and I gave it permissions with adb.
I'll see how it goes and perhaps report back here if anyone is interested. Also, there's quite a nice article about uninstalling bloat via adb without root that I'm reading here on XDA at the moment. I've already manually force closed apps like ZOE, perhaps I can squeeze a bit more out of the system here and there with that.
Google Services is really killing it, and I don't even have an option for uninstalling Chrome. lol Hello Google!!
Hey all. Noob question. I'm rooted with the latest Magisk + app (14.5 / 5.4....3?). I have a few modules installed, nothing much. There's a module called unified hosts adblock, but it requires doing some configuring in terminal that I'm not sure how to do to be honest.
Are you guys using this for ad blocking or another method?
I always use ADAway, just check systemless hosts option in Magisk Manager under settings first...

So no need for root for the moment especially with the absence of custom ROMs...
I also use AdGuard. It worked for me very well even when I was not rooted. It just has a key at the top of the screen because it routes all your data through a local VPN it creates on your device. When you give it SU access. The results are just as good if not better, minus the annoying key icon. You can use the free version. But I believe that my lifetime license is well worth it. They are an extremely transparent company when it comes to their software. They take prIvacy very seriously. I sound like I am advertising for them, but it really is a very simple easy to use application.
Thanks all! I installed AdAway last night after reading the XDA thread on it. I haven't done any testing on it yet. I'll also keep AdGuard in mind for the future. I appreciate the advice!

Have you noticed any irregularities with adguard lately? I've uninstalled and went back to the July build because it was destroying my battery (30% usage over the day) and used about 50 gb of data over wifi according to the data usage manager. I've only had the old build for a day so I can't quite tell if it made it better. I just wanted to know if anyone has also had issues. Kinda makes me just want to root and be done with it.

They both do the same job essentially.
I'm not super clear on the root for this phone, it seems a little different from all my other Android phones. HI All,
So I've have my 7T for about a month now and are very happy coming from a P 2xl.
Now I'm thinking should I or should I not root. When I had my Note 4 I rooted all the time but now that I think of it, even though it was kind of fun, I don't miss the bugs. On the positive side , due to so much bloat from Samsung, I liked the ability to delete and clean out the phone. Moving on the P 2 XL I didn't root because it was so clean and Google lets you delete practically everything you don't want. Now I'm with the 7T which seems to be another "clean" phone.
At this point , I'm looking for suggestions:
What are the pros and cons?

It's more like what you want to achieve with root.
It's a bit more complicated since there is no TWRP. And it case something goes wrong, it might be a bit tricky to get restore everything, but you should be fine since there's are plenty of instructions.
I've heard some banking apps does not work, but haven't experienced that.
Unlocking the bootloader makes the widevine Level L3, so you are limited to 720p Netflix.
Sent from my OnePlus7TPro using XDA Labs
I don't think it is necessary to root because you can debloat with adb commands. If you root the banking apps won't work for example and because of rooting you expose yourself to a security risk
I tried it, didn't end up working well, had to use the OnePlus recovery tool
Also as for banking apps stopping working, use magisk hide, may also work on Netflix but not sure
I'm usually a big fan of rooting, but have been using my 7t for a week without it and don't miss it. Brave browser and adb debloat has accomplished most of what I need root for.
In my case answer was simple. Titaniumbackup requires root. Not all apps have import/export settings or do so completely. Adaway, Vpn hotspot (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.mygod.vpnhotspot&hl=en_US), and some other apps I use also require root. Hell, I could of gotten a samdung product (on promotion) for a few bucks more. Root or bust !!!
Reasons to root:
Adaway
Reasons not to:
I rooted the phone a month or so back to use a custom kernel, install AdAway and even tried out OmniROM which was quite buggy and essentially a step down from OxygenOS. More importantly, it wasn't worth it because of losing Widevine L1 which is needed in my case for Netflix and Prime Video, as I occasionally connect it to other display devices over Type-C. Banking apps mostly worked with Magisk Hide but then some of them were a bit glitchy.
Moreover, it was a bit of a pain to restore OxygenOS as the fastboot roms fail the integrity check and the only option is to do a factory flash. I eventually settled on debloating through adb and using Blokada for adblocking which more or less serves its purpose.
I root on the first day. Mainly for adaway , viper4android and theming. Its just way easier to achieve these with root .
