Youtube Adblock for Nougat? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if there was a way to block ads on youtube that would work on nougat? I used to have the xposed module on 6.0.1 but since xposed does not work on nougat, I cannot do that. If anyone has a solution that would be very appreciated!

If anyone is interested this did not work on my rooted pixel XL on nougat 7.1.1
Update: I made it work by putting the folder into /system/priv-app and then renaming the app to just YouTube. Then I used TWRP to change the folder permissions to 755 and the apps permissions to 644 thanks to the advice of another user.

Adblock: As a free extension., this add-on can stop the ads from being downloaded to your computer and makes pages load faster by preventing files from being downloaded automatically. It's the hottest one I have used.
Ghostery: A privacy and security browser extension that can protect blocking third-party tracking scripts that are used by websites to collect data on user behavior for advertising.
UBlock Origin: It’s said that uBlock uses significantly less resources than Adblock Plus. With fast speed and small occupation, it can help you block the ads effectively. However, comparing with ABP, this blocker can’t do the whole things ABP do.
But the fact is that some plug-ins will cause Youtube errors. The loss outweighs the gain, sometimes.

Great, I've tried it out anyways after I asked the question. Just needed confirmation
Try MoaAB (Mother Of All Ad Blocking). No need of app. Just a simple host file. Search in Google 'MoaAB'
Hosts files can be very dangerous, you need to trust the source of those files. I am using AdAway because I trust them.
Other blockers might seem to "work" too, but I don't trust them. You don't know when your bank account (or any account for that matter, even this site sign-in) gets re-directed and where.

The following Hosts file by StevenBlack are best. And they are frequently updated. Grab it from github. Use Google chrome from your phone and check "Request desktop website" before proceeding the below link.
https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts
1. click hosts
2. long click on RAW button and save the link. This will download the hosts file in txt format.
3. remove the .txt extension
4. Copy the hosts file to following path
/system/etc
5. Change permissions of the hosts to rw-r-r
That's it..!
Many people decide not to root their Android device. Because of this, Android modification can get tricky and is very limited. Luckily, with Adguard you’re able to block ads on websites, apps and protect yourself from phishing and malicious trackers. Adguard creates a local VPN connection in order to filter ads, trackers and other malicious content. Any possible connections to Adguard are encrypted, so your data is safe. Adguard is hands-down the best solution if you don’t have root access to your Android device.

Ad Blocking with Root?

I tried installed adaway.apk and it failed to apply the host files. Also tried the Magisk plugin unified host files module and that seemed to have no effect. Anyone have any success with a ad blocking method. I don't want to use a VPN type ad blocking all the time. Thanks.
The latest adaway worked fine for me on 8.1, are you getting any errors when applying the host file? In Magisk under superuser is adaway listed and checked on?

What are people doing for non-root adblocking? I had root on my old phone and it's really tough for me to sit through all these ads......
For web browser ad blocking... I use Brave browser. Really enjoy the browswer
I personally don't use system-wide ad blocking. Any of the apps I do use which have ads, I usually used my Google Opinion/Survey reward money to just buy ad-free version of it.
Youtube is an exception. I suppose that's the only thing I don't have ad blocking for. Haven't tried YouTube in browser to test it

[Q] Removing YouTube Ads?

Anyone get YouTube Module iYTBP for Magisk to work? I've never used this particular method before. I manually downloaded the latest ARM64 variant and tried the ones listed in Magisk downloads as well . I'm not sure if its just broken for our device at the moment or I'm doing something wrong. If some has another method for removing YouTube ads you be appreciated. Thanks
Try Youtube RED hahaha
Couple ways. YouTube Red of course which is what I use now. But I used to use pi-hole on my home network
Yea, their ads are getting out of hand.
Root it, then use an aggressive HOSTS file. This one is not bad http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm
Remember to convert the format of the hosts to Unix. In Notepadd++ that is EDIT --> EOL Conversion --> UNIX
If rooting is too much, go with a DNS blackhole. Raspberry Pi Hole is the easiest.
Or you can setup DNS on a Windows Server, then import the domains from the hosts file using this: https://cyber-defense.sans.org/blog/2010/08/31/windows-dns-server-blackhole-blacklist
Another benefit of a DNS server is that you can log all the DNS lookup requests from your Pixel 2, iPad, Smart TV, etc. Then block the **** out of them.

I was having issues too. What worked for me was uninstalling updates for YouTube, and when it prompted to return the app to the stock one that came with the phone, I said yes and it finally worked.
The best adfree solution to YouTube IMO is this:
https://www.official-plus.com/ogyoutube
Not only do you get YouTube adfree - you can do picture in picture without YouTube red AND you get an extra button to download the video in mp4 or just the audio in mp3 if you wanted to! AND ROOT NOT NEEDED! 1st install MicroG APK, then install OGyoutube APK, give permissions, and done lol.
Best YouTube experience yet. Please give this a try, you will forget all about the YouTube adaway module.
BTW, I'm on Oreo 8.1 developer preview 1, unrooted, locked bootloader, stock recovery and still works great. Has extra settings and options not originally in stock YouTube too. And they're all handy =-)
P.S. I been using this for YouTube all week (just got my pixel 2 xl) and haven't seen a single ad yet.
Honestly, pay for it or deal with it. A lot of these creators spend hours and hours creating content for you to enjoy. Those ads pay for that time. And not nearly enough I might add. It's 5 to 20 seconds of your life or 10 bucks a month.
Guys, I live in Russia, so there's no way to legally use YouTube Red. Here's what I did:
1. Rooted with Magisk.
2. Removed system app YouTube.apk.
3. Downloaded modified YouTube iYTBP and put it into the system folder.
Magic! Everything works fine including picture-in-picture mode. No ads!

How to block ads?

Hey all. Noob question. I'm rooted with the latest Magisk + app (14.5 / 5.4....3?). I have a few modules installed, nothing much. There's a module called unified hosts adblock, but it requires doing some configuring in terminal that I'm not sure how to do to be honest.
Are you guys using this for ad blocking or another method?
I always use ADAway, just check systemless hosts option in Magisk Manager under settings first...

So no need for root for the moment especially with the absence of custom ROMs...
I also use AdGuard. It worked for me very well even when I was not rooted. It just has a key at the top of the screen because it routes all your data through a local VPN it creates on your device. When you give it SU access. The results are just as good if not better, minus the annoying key icon. You can use the free version. But I believe that my lifetime license is well worth it. They are an extremely transparent company when it comes to their software. They take prIvacy very seriously. I sound like I am advertising for them, but it really is a very simple easy to use application.
Thanks all! I installed AdAway last night after reading the XDA thread on it. I haven't done any testing on it yet. I'll also keep AdGuard in mind for the future. I appreciate the advice!

Have you noticed any irregularities with adguard lately? I've uninstalled and went back to the July build because it was destroying my battery (30% usage over the day) and used about 50 gb of data over wifi according to the data usage manager. I've only had the old build for a day so I can't quite tell if it made it better. I just wanted to know if anyone has also had issues. Kinda makes me just want to root and be done with it.

It was just easier to use the magisk module when I got the new device.
They both do the same job essentially.
I'm not super clear on the root for this phone, it seems a little different from all my other Android phones. In the winter I like to watch Netflix from a treadmill, so I'm concerned about Netflix continuing to work. I have to get rid of these ads though and have always used Adaway. By using Magisk, will my Netflix continue to work?

Active Snapchat tweaks still Alive on android?

Hi all!
Is there any Snapchat modules and tweaks left for rooted android phones? Like snaprefs? Casper? Snapchat++?
I am on the edge to get a OP5T, and this Will be the deciding factor!
Thank you.
Snaptools uses xposed. So can only use it on nougat and not Oreo for now
Alright! Is snaptools active and being updated?
To my knowledge,
- Snapchat++ is an iPhone jailbreak tweak (not sure if there is an Android equivalent) (I could be wrong though)
- Casper was shut down by the dev as he was about to get sued by Snapchat
- Snapprefs doesn't work anymore because it uses a really old version of Snapchat (I think 9.x) (I could be wrong about this as well though)
- Snaptools works with Snapchat 10.20.5 as I use it myself and it does require root and Xposed. Works really well imo and I got the paid version too!

Really it does not require root? That is quite the news!
But if i were to root is hard to get it up and running? Using magisk for instance.
And with all battery saving modules for Google play services etc then the battery life must be pretty impressing.

There's also a new patch that was released in a well known patching app that I can't really mention here. It appears to have been released for one of the most recent version of Snapchat, but I haven't been able to find any info about this specific patch or the coder. I haven't tried it out yet myself, but I'm pretty sure it probably requires root -- I don't think it needs Xposed though (although the Patcher app I'm talking about does have an Xposed component to make some stuff easier.)
Is there any current active tweaks
Is there any current active tweaks that support sharing images from camera roll?
