So I just got off with Sony support trying to get my phone fixed. I don't even know if I'm still under warranty since they obviously don't read the reason for contacting them in the first place. I told the guy I need to get my phone repaired. He told me to contact Sony to initiate a repair. When I asked how I do that, he said I should contact Sony... I don't even know where to begin to describe my frustration. I don't know whether or not to contact Sony, or AT&T. My service provider is AT&T but I bought the phone on the Sony website. I'm about 30 seconds away from selling this phone on eBay and using my old Inspire 4G for another year. Ridiculous. Sorry. I just needed to vent.
Your best bet is to call them. You have to be issued an RMA number to return.
*BE WARNED* I sent my phone in for repair and after idiot after idiot and over a month, still no phone! I was told it was pending, swap status to I should have a tracking number any second (told that for over a week). I finally emailed the CEO of Sony Mobile North America one night before work. The next morning a super nice lady that sounded like Paula Dean called me and said the CEO sent her my email and she would find out by days end where my phone was. She called me back later that same day (Friday) and said my phone would be sent out that day overnight FedEx with special Saturday delivery. FINALLY got my phone back and all it took was an email (several calls daily, several "escalation tickets" by manager, etc) lol
That was a couple weeks ago. Yesterday I got an email that they're sending me the MW Sony Bluetooth headset as compensation for the FUBAR that happened with my phone.
It was bad timing. I found out:
My phone was finally looked at and authorized to be swapped
They had to wait to get more replacement units from Sony
Once those arrived they had to be sent out to be upgraded to the recent ICS update
Once they were returned updated they had to be processed and sent out
My phone was not insured through AT&T and since it was a replacement for an old Xperia Play I had to deal directly with Sony! IT WAS A NIGHTMARE but not common.

At least you get a headset out of the deal. The website support is a joke. If anything like that happened to me, I would probably go on a killing spree.

I'll probably have to call. I just hope they're open on Saturday. I'm never buying a phone through the website again. Thanks for the info.
I've used their support online chat before too without major issues.

It's frustrating to say the least. They're idiots and know nothing more than what their poorly updated system tells them.
The Laredo facility is just a hub that things go to and are dispersed to other repair facilities from there. There's been MANY horror stories of $3k laptops and stuff becoming MIA. Their repair is a joke but yeah, at least I'm getting a headset I'll never use out of it all.
Hey if you're not going to use I'd gladly take it off your hands, I'm glad that none of my Sony products have problems or need to be repaired.

Sony support is garbage clearly u never owned a ps3 lol im guessing sony is used to dealing with dumbasses because they always tell you yo do anything any idiot would know how to do and would have done. It like the ppl they hire know nothing about the products they sell

Because they don't. They sit at a computer and you say; "phone wont turn on" they find the option on the pc that closest matches yours then they are given a new list of questions to ask you. Then the cycle repeats, don't get mad at them for what Sony pays them and highers them to do. Get mad at Sony and whomever is in charge of the support section of Sony for making the call center beat around the bush and piss you off.

In all my local forums, people keep saying their G4 has died with mainly motherboard problem, then need to go to LG to fix it, and even LG ran out of motherboard and asked a lot of them to wait for a week or two for new motherboard. All photos or anything cannot be got out and totally lost once motherboard just died. Do you have similar experience?

Or in my case..bootloops and now it ll just shut down entirely after showing the LG boot logo for a few seconds..it wont do anything at all unless I pull the battery, put it back in..and then it does the same. So..for all intends and purposes this thing is dead.
Mine was a hw v1.0 manufactured in May of 15.
I'm pissed..lost a ton of pics and vids of my newborn
I had to send mine in 3 weeks ago for major overheating issues and unresponsive touchscreen. I received it back on Saturday. Overheating issues still happening, but now I can't make or receive calls. I had to send it back again. LG Customer support is awful.
Got my Verizon G4 on Nov 1.
Manufacturers Date Oct. 2015
Died 3rd week November.
Mailed back to LG and got my phone back 2 weeks later.
Still testing my repaired unit (was hoping for a replacement but no go).
Using stress test app several hours a day.
So far, OK...

As I mentioned elsewhere I'm very much done with LG. First they didn't acknowledge issues with the gps chips in many of the G2..(went thru 4 of em) and now this..on top of the touchscreen issue (which got a bit better with recent updates) something that once again seems to be down to poor quality control and is being swept under the rug. Ridiculous really.
Back to Moto, HTC or perhaps go with Samsung for the first time (somehow managed to avoid them since starting with the OG Droid) when I can upgrade again. Sucks because I really love the LG cameras in particular and the removable battery n storage.

I was considering getting the Nexus 6P and selling the LG G4, but I don't think I want a phone quite that big again (previous phone was the HTC One Max). That, and if there's one thing I love about it, it's the camera which is hard to give up. The manual controls are great.
But dealing with their Customer Support is enough to take my business elsewhere going forward. My wife, sister, and I all go the LG G4 on release. Theirs ended up fine, but that's almost $2,000 in sales right there. A supervisor doesn't have the power to do overnight shipping. What BS. Over a month without my phone when you consider that I have to send it in back-to-back times. And HOPE that it comes back repaired this time.
With Verizon Wireless, just call Verizon Wireless Level 2 support at 1-866-892-7957. They will send you a Certified Like New Replacement by FedEx Express and then you either return your original phone or the new one should you not like the new one using the pre-paid shipping label. They do not care where you bought the phone as long as it's a model that Verizon Wireless sold so basically you get the 12 months manufacturers warranty. If you have Total Equipment Coverage, then the warranty is as long as you still have TEC and the phone gets sent FedEx Express Standard Overnight. You have 5 days to send a phone back to them but in reality, it's a month.

No, you have to be a current Verizon Wireless customer.
I have a G4 (VS-986) originally bought in June 2015 (and then replaced twice on the spot by Verizon when it broke on two different occasions, including another bootloop about a year ago).
I went to the LG website, looked up support, reported my purchase date, provided a PDF of my receipt, and picked one of the "Power" problems when asked what the issue was.
The website took my return immediately, gave me a prepaid shipping label, and LG fixed it in a week flat. (They replaced the mainboard; serial number is the same.) So I can confirm they are fixing phones with this problem regardless of warranty.
Here is another good thread about it:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-g4/636120-kinda-official-lg-g4-bootloop-thread-37.html
seems like its happening more and more by the looks of the threads on this section.
Last night I was sending a text to my brother (had it on wifi and about 40-50% battery), and POOF my 5X turned off. Then it appeared as if it was just going to restart and the "Google" startup screen popped up for a few seconds but never made it to the bouncing balls startup animation.
It then went dark again. I tried to start it up again and again showed Google, then nothing.
Held Power and Volume down for 15 seconds and scrolled to power off
tried to start it again and showed Google then nothing.
Held power and volume buttons again and went to restart, this time nothing.
held power for a long time nothing, held power volume nothing.
No signs of life, Called Google and they said it would probably need to be replaced and connected me to LG since I didnt buy it from the Google store, LG support was really bad, connection was bad didnt really understand what I was saying and worst of all was very very rude and tried to talk down to me.
Left the phone all night without the charger plugged in, this morning went to turn on my coffee machine and just thought to check the phone, held the power button and the indicator light flashed red.
I got excited and plugged it in and it appeared like it was starting to charge, left it for a while after coffee I touched the power just to see if it was still charging, the battery icon was moving then froze.
then it started trying to start up showing Google then nothing.
I held power and volume down and went to recovery after that it appeared to start up normally, went to Google, then bouncing ball android animation then showed my lock screen, BUT touch screen, fingerprint scanner and physical buttons were all not responsive.
Man so FRUSTRATING

Not so much a question, but just posting my troubleshooting methodology and steps taken to get it repaired.
Venting, definitely.
This weekend, I received an email from LG to request repair.
I clicked on the link (to an LG site) and there I found I could not request repair for my phone (H791) because apparently LG.com is JUST for USA phones. I called and again had a rude customer service person tell me that they would not be able to repair my phone because the H790 and H791 are too different (LOL)
I went back to their site and sent a very stern email to their customer service telling them how I have been dismissed and not getting anywhere and that I did not appreciate the fact that they would not repair LG product regardless of the intended country.
They finally got back to me and said my phone came from Germany and I would need to contact LG Germany to have my phone repaired.
In the mean time I got with Groupon (where I bought the phone) and they told me to contact [email protected] or 1-800-551-8225 x204 which is the company that was selling through their website.
But I still have not heard back from them either.

I had a similar, yet somewhat different experience.
I called the LG HQ in AL. Long story short, I was transferred to a Mobile Division Supervisor who is located in the Philippines. I received the same response (that LG US is not equipped to repair phones from other markets due to parts not being identical, etc) but his digging found that the H791 is a product of the UK and Australia.
He gave me the phone number for LG UK but I opted to open a case through www.lg.com/uk. The model was identified immediately, unlike the US site.
The only problem is - you need a physical address in the UK or Ireland, which I happen to have via a colleague who agreed to receive the phone and ship back to me if/when it is repaired and sent back by LG UK.
According to the response after opening the case, someone from LG will contact us to go through troubleshooting (the usual B.S.) and if unsuccessful they will take the phone for repair.
We'll see how it goes, but clearly there should be a class action against LG. It is unacceptable that two huge companies (LG and Google) will shake their hands off of this issue with so many complaints. IANAL and I don't have the slightest clue on how to start a class action lawsuit against LG.

hmmmm, that is very odd that the H791 in your case would be for UK, and mine would show up for Germany, this kind of confirmed my thoughts as there is a (DE) written on the box after the model number.
I am going to call the vendor here in a little as they have still not answered my emails and see if anyone picks up the phone.
If that does not work I will ping Groupon again, and finally if that does not work I am going to contact LG Germany. I have a friend stationed with the US Air Force in Stuttgart, maybe he can "lend" me his address

So maybe it is indeed a fully international version that can be repaired in several countries. I just tried the German LG site and H791 was recognized there as well.
We bought ours on ebay, clearly there is no one to talk to on that channel [emoji20]

I called the HQ number in Huntsville AL, 256-772-8860. It was around 12:30 pm local time and apparently the receptionist was at lunch so a guy name James Wosinsky (not sure if the spelling is correct) who identified himself as the security supervisor picked up. He was very helpful and understanding and offered an option to escalate the situation. He then transferred the call to the supervisor in the mobile division.
Hope this helps.

Just an update, but I called and finally got someone on the phone at Metro Business systems, that is the company that was behind my particular Groupon 5X.
After being transferred around, I finally got in touch with a guy who sent an email (and cc'd me) to the sales rep for Groupon. fingers crossed.
Update:
Metro Business systems, will not honor their warranty on the 5X, they instead want to sell me an iphone at a "discounted" price...
I found their CEOs email and I am going to CC him, and I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau
Update:
Still no answer from the CEO, got an email from the BBB, but still nothing from Metro. I contacted Groupon and said that it is terrible customer service that they allow a company like this to sell through their website and then not help the customers when sellers become unresponsive.
So I started searching and because Metro is not honoring their warranty this is considered a breach of warranty. AND I can now get the Federal Trade Commission involved. Which I did.
(FYI, read the book, The Art of Complaining Effectively)
UPDATE: VICTORY!
After really leaning on the Groupon customer service and alerting them to the FTC inquiry into their warranty policy and Metro's I have received a full refund!
Good on groupon
So I have a 14 month old Nexus 5X that just started boot looping. I can get into the backend and wipe the cache, and storage but it didn't fix anything. Anyway I'm in an interesting situation. I live in Canada, but I purchased the 5X online from B&H Photo right when the Pixel was being released and these were selling at a great price. LG sold the International version LGH791 in the Canadian market whereas the US has the LGH790 (The one I have). I called LG Canada looking to get some info about sending it in to be repaired out of warranty since this originally had 12 months. To my surprise they said the warranty for this phone has been extended to 24 months (which got me curious as to why...led me to Googling). Anyway after checking IMEI# they said my model of phone was US specific and had different components so they refused to fix it and told me to call LG USA. Through Google support I was put in touch with a support rep down in the states who after taking my info and realizing I'm not in the US informed me that LG USA could not ship a repaired unit given to them to a non-US address. I even offered to pay both ways...nope. Curiously LG USA never mentioned anything about an extended warranty for the US models like LG Canada had? Has anyone in states who's suffered the dreaded bootloop like mine got it repaired out of warranty, if not what did they charge to fix it? I managed to work with them on letting them send a return repair through an export service.
Thanks for your time!
I have a 19 month old 5x that started having serious issues. I contacted Google, but they wouldn't do anything to help me. I have yet to contact LG, but I would also be curious to hear about this extended warranty, and if it exists.
I bought the phone from Google to use on Project Fi, so I assumed Google would be upholding the warranty, as it was when my brother's 5x bootlooped. If LG picked up the slack after the 1 year original warranty left off, maybe i could get it fixed? I already ordered an Android One X4 for use on Fi, but maybe I could fix it and sell it?
I'm in the US and I recently got my 18 month old device replaced. I just completed the repair service request online and mailed them the phone. I did have to pay the shipping cost to send it to them. They fixed it and sent it back to me after about a week.

Hmm thats interesting. Did you have to inquire about it first or they just offered. Because they told me I would have to cover shipping as well as a flat rate fee of around $150 I believe.
I'm in the US too. My 5X bootlooped in May and Google replaced mine. They said I'm a valued customer and so they gave me a one time, free of charge courtesy replacement. Originally bought mine in November 2015 via Google Play so my 1 year warranty had long expired. I didn't pay anything. Google just put a hold on my account for the phone until they received my bootlooped device.

Ditto. I'm in the US and have had both of our 5Xs fixed under the extended warranty.
YES YES YES YES YES YES. Please people, stop asking about this and just call up LG. They've fixed 2 Nexus 5x's, 2 G4's and 1 G5 for me, all for $0. All out of warranty. This was all done about 2-3 months ago. (I am in the US.)
I sent mine to LG last Friday free of charge to replace the motherboard. Hopefully that fixes the bootloader issue. Didn't know about LG extending warranty. Glad that did it. I hope it fixes the phone.

Long story short, I have been trying to revive my phone that died in May this year and I have spent the last 2 days trying to flash or adb sideload ota software, but to no avail. I have been getting E: signature verification failed and error 21, over and over. I decided to get an Ota software from someone else other than from Android developers page. I downloaded bullhead-ota-opr6.170623.013-87f85e44.zip from AndroidAuthority. I noticed this zip OTA was bigger file than the official ones. it was over a gig while others were less. I adb sideload bullhead-ota-opr6.170623.013-87f85e44.zip It worked and the phone booted fully. I immediately turned developer options on and usb debugging to unlock the bootloader. I right away received OTA for Oreo. I hope this helps someone, if you have a question go ahead and ask.thanks.

Just got LG to replace my motherboard to fix the bootloop of death, takes about a week and I only had to pay shipping to them.
Got mine back on Tuesday. Working perfectly. Haven't had a bootloader issue since. Running oreo. Love this phone again.

I have a us version that was sold in canada by google. It started boot looping, then died completely. LG Canada would not touch it since its a "US" phone, even though it was sold by google. (Way to go google.) LG USA would fix it out of warranty, but it had to be shipped to USA address. Fortunately, I live close to the border.
Anyone have this repair done recently? I bought my 5x right when released and well past warranty now. Will they still fix it free of charge? If not, how much?
lg customer service is balls. i had literally 1 week left on my warranty, and was moving across the country in the next few days. they said id have to send it in and id have it back within 3 weeks. they were simply dumb bots who wouldnt help expedite the process. I called google, and they put a 200 dollar hold on a credit card and next day aired me a refurb nexus5x with a return label.
screw lg. never buying another product from them again.

Talk to them on their chat on their website. Doesn't hurt to ask. The world they would say it's no you have to pay to fix.

Yep - I did call them and they offered up a full repair free of charge paying for shipping and everything - not a cent out of my pocket. I barely had to say anything past "bootloop". Not happy with the bootloop, but happy with the LG handling of this. Luckily I have a phone to use during the repair.

Our of luck for my Nexus 5x. I called today for the bootloop issue and was told that they only offer free repair for this issue for qualified buyer.
Because I purchased my phone from Ebay 2nd hand, my phone repair cost would be about $72 dollar.
Not worth the money to put into LG. I am not willing to put $72 into a phone that caused headache for me.

What is best option to repair the phone myself? fully understand that my phone could be dead permanently by doing self-repair.
How does the LG warranty work if it was purchased via ebay or 3rd party instead of Google or directly from LG ? Mine is fine now, but I bought it from ebay almost 12 months ago
Per LG, the warranty for the boot loop issue on the Nexus 5X has been extended until Oct. 2018.
Go to lgmobilerepair.com and fill out the form (put in the date you remember purchasing it and upload a text file as the proof of purchase to satisfy the form).
My 5x worked since I bought it on the original sale date, somehow it stopped working recently. So after hearing about the class action settlement and the warranty extension, I sent in my phone. Just got notification that they are replacing the board, and returning it to me. I'll follow up if I have other issues.
If you have a faulty 5x, send it back to get it fixed!
Hope
How long have you had it? We've had 3 in the family, all 3 croaked. The other 2 google replaced cause on project fi. My wife's died yesterday. It was bought new off an eBay seller couple years ago. Where did you buy yours? What # did you call also? Thanks
I just set up a warranty repair (USA) for a boot-looping Nexus 5X by calling LG at (800) 793-8896 (6am - midnight CST). I bought it from Google on 9/29/2015, which was the original release date, like the OP. They do ask for proof-of-purchase, so I'm not sure about second hand e-bay purchases. Since the warranty is extended past their normal 1 year, maybe it isn't as important to establish the date.

If I hadn't used my dead one's screen to repair my daughter's phone I'd have a nice working 5x. LG extended the warranty to 30 months on bootloop issues because they did not want to take hundreds or thousands of people to arbitration.
Now I have a k20 plus running nougat. Meh.
