I'd like to get a Circular Polarizer (CPL) lens for the Pixel 2 like this one from Bomgogo (there are more by other companies as well), but I'd prefer one that attaches to a metal ring around the camera lens by magnets so I can put on/off quickly. Also, since I use a case (by Spigen) on the phone, if the filter uses a clip it'd have to accommodate the additional thickness.
Does anyone know of a magnet-attach CPL filter, or possibly why a CPL filter won't work well with the Pixel 2 camera?

Moment is taking preorders on 62mm filter mount for their lens. You need to use their case though. Check their website.

The official sammy case I got has the camera slot near the wedge, and yet the photos on their website have it the other way round! What's going on??
The bookcase I received, has the camera slot on the inner wedge (photos below), and it causes two problems. i) the tablet is turned 180 degrees in the 'typing mode' (shallow support) and some programs like Youtube can't do a 180 degrees turnover, and ii) when you close the bookcase, the short magnetic clip does not cover the camera when closed, thus the camera is exposed.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/5907483363/
Yet, when you look their photos for the bookcase, it shows the camera slot on the far side, thus the tablet would not be upside down in 'typing mode' and the clip covers the camera slot.

(select "view larger" on the lower right side to see the position of the different camera slot)

Can it be that the bookcase I received, which had the part number EFC-1B1NBEGSTA is different from the one on display which has the part number EFC-1B1NBEBSTD ?? But Sammy didn't say anything about different models, and I for one, would prefer the camera slot on the far side. Did you all receive the bookcases like mine, or did anyone receive bookcases like the one on their website? Did anyone actually receive a bookcase that looks like the gallery one (STD) rather than mine (STA) ??
I've got the same one as you. My guess would be that the pictures on Samsung's website are of what the case was going to look like originally.

Ditto here. I also figured that the display model was an earlier pre-production model that was changed.
As far as the OP's concerns, while it would be nice to have the camera covered I don't think it's that big a deal. Allowing the camera to be recessed should protect it from most wear and tear as compared to what my caseless Evo has endured with its raised camera.
Just a photosop fail on their part
I just found this Samsung book cover case with a slightly different model number over at tigerdirect.com. It shows the rear facing camera lens hole on the opposite end from the model you received (same pictures that were on the Sammy website). Has anyone purchased this model and is the camera location different? I noticed the different model number and was actually worried about ordering from Tiger Direct in fear that it was an older model or something (version 1.0).
Samsung's website model: EFC-1B1NBEBSTD
Tiger Direct's model: EFC-1B1NBECXAR
Sorry I can't post links yet, you will have to search on google for "samsung galaxy tab 10.1 book cover case" and the top listing under shopping should be the tiger direct link.
The product id of the book cover case I bought from Samsung a couple of weeks ago was EFC-1B1NBEGSTA. Now when you put that product in your shopping cart it comes up as EFC-1B1NBEBSTD. I wonder if this new product id signifies a modified book cover case with the camera hole in the other position...
Noticed this as well but I thought it wasn't that big of a deal to post - It's not the first time Samsung messes up photoshop on their own website.
Most of the pictures on Samsung's site are photoshop fails.

1st and 2nd pictures are contradictive (USB port is on the bottom of the phone)

There have been 3 totally different part numbers for this case so far. So far 2 of the 3 photos have been posted in various threads and they are identical.
Well, I wouldn't mind a bookcase that looks like the one on the site, rather than the one I have ... Will keep an eye out to see if different versions actually come out, in the US or elsewhere.
I have to say, even the cnet gallery here shows the GT10 in an upright position when the bookcase is set to typing mode. Unless they deliberately took it out and turned it upside down, this photo would also support the notion that there is a Sammy bookcase that has the camera slot cut out on the far side rather than near the binding ...

There is only one version of the case. You can tell CNET deliberately placed the Tab in the case upside down, since the cut-out for the headphone jack is on the bottom.
My bet would be a last minute redesign so that the head phone jack would not be covered. When on the go, it is probably the only port you want to make sure is not covered.
Samsung should have updated their site to reflect that though.
Good point about the headphone jack....
When I got this case I was really disappointed in design.. I like the materials and build.... The case just feels like it is backwards. I decided to put my tab in the opposite way... I will likely never use the camera, and Its covered up by the case when you open it all the way.
The only way to use the camera with the case is to hold the tab upside down and let the cover hang.. Just silly. You will fumble around with it for sure the first time you try to take a pic with this case on - trying to figure out what way to hold it so the camera is not blocked by case.

Like you said, I would rarely use the camera but messing with it in the case I simply hold it at the top with the fingers of my left hand holding the cover up and my palm on the top left of the tab. Annoying but works fine since it's so lite.
They should have made it with a removable top (cover). They could have had the 2 pieces slide together with a plastic hinge of some sort. Or maybe some heavy velcro.
or just made a smart cover like the ipad
Ok, so the Samsung website has it listed as a leather case... and the pics in this post look like the outside flap may be leather... mine is plastic and nylon and only the inside flap that touches the screen is leather. Is everybody else's like that?

It's plastic. There is no other version. Samsung's photos are wrong as is their description. You would think the actual manufacturer would get it right or at least after 2 months fix it.
Hi Guys,
I have found this one
http://www.ebay.es/itm/New-PU-Leath...ng-Galaxy-Note-10-1-N8000-White-/130774374551
It looks like the official one. Have some one bought it? If so, is the quality acceptable? I am thinking to get one of this, but my main concern is to find a poor quality.
I use the official Samsung book cover that I purchased in grey from the UK, it is the one I use daily as it is very practical for my uses however unless you transport it in a padded case, there is still a risk of damage due to the original book case being so thin and does not close with any kind of locking mechanism.
I overcame this with an excellent solution using a protective zipper pouch called the zeroshock case which is padded inside and has excellent shock/drop proof qualities. Once out of the zeroshock case, in use it has a thin form factor which is perfect for practical uses around the office.
The case also folds to the perfect angle for typing or handwriting using a software keyboard or S-pen in its lower position and also stands up at an upright angle for when you want to watch videos or use it for typing when using a standard /Bluetooth hardware keyboard.
I have taken some pictures of the case demonstrating the above and will add pictures to show you my setup.
Edit: pictures added

I have the cover, and I really like it because of the slim profile. I have the white version of the note and book cover, and I don't want to carry it around for fear of it getting discolored of dirty looking.
Hasc,
Quick question about your pictures. Where did you get the zero case? Also it seems in your pictures you have 2 different pens - one looks like the galaxy note pen and another with the eraser? Can you identify the items in the picture? I understand the s-pen nubs and ring holder to extract them, but i'm curious about the last picture why you have a usb to micro-usb slot cord. What do you use that for?

sledgie,
I got the zero case from gearzap.com - product id: 19906 - Zeroshock 3 Netbook Case 8.9"-10.2" - black @ 15.95 Inc VAT
pens - black one is the standard galaxy note one with eraser, white one is the Bluetooth pen that is charged by the black micro usb lead on the picture
The white usb adapter is used to connect usb sticks, mice, hardware keyboards etc.

I have finally taken the decision to buy it (http://www.ebay.es/itm/New-PU-Leath...ng-Galaxy-Note-10-1-N8000-White-/130774374551), although it is not the official one (I think the official one is too expensive, 10% of the tablet's value ). I will post the pictures as soon as I get it. On the other hand, I have already a zipper pouch case which is the one I am using daily, therefore I will have a good match at the end.
Damage to Note due to magnet?
Hi i have purchased this cover and found out that the magnet causes the spen to be less accurate in the areas close to where the magnet is.. does anyone know if this can cause a permanent damage? In other thread someone posted this:
I found this in Galaxy Note manual
' Do not use carrying cases or accessories with magnetic closures or allow
your device to come in contact with magnetic fields for extended periods of
time. ' Page 180
but i dont know if this counts i mean.. samsung made it!!
I have some questions about the ability to read NFC's based on position and reading through things. If it is of ANY difference, I have a RAZR HD MAXX
I'll give some examples:
Countertop - I'd like to place the NFC tag on the opposite side of the countertop so it won't be visible but when I set my phone down on that spot, it'll know what to do. The granite countertop is about 3-4mm thick.
On the Side of things - I have at least 2 places I'd like to place the tags where I'll set my phone down on something but it'll be attached to it's side.
Other side of Windows/Glass.
Other side of Drywall.
Other side of (Exterior/Interior) Doors.
Basically, the idea here is to be aesthetically pleasing as possible. Tags are not invisible and they can be somewhat of an eyesore if used around the home. This is extremely important if you are using it for home automation.
Just did a test with our NFC tags and a Nexus 4.
With a stack of paper in between about 1cm, although I don't think there's much of a difference with or without paper.
Tried it across a pane of glass and it worked perfectly.
I'm pretty sure the drywall and even the door would not be do-able. The normal range for NFC is max 3cm and is usually much less than that.
I'm also thinking the phone model may affect it a little, will try again tonight with an Xperia V and we'll see what the results are. My impression is that the Xperia V's NFC is stronger than the Nexus 4.
I get some tags today, hopefully...
I'll keep this thread rolling as I learn more.
Just tried with the Xperia V and the NFC on that is definitely stronger. I'm able to have the tag trigger the phone at a further distance compared to my Nexus 4 in all scenarios.
My RAZR HD MAXX can read through the following things:
3mm thick granite countertop
Back of my door bell button ... Took the electrical assembly off and mounted it behind the tiny printed circuit board, it didn't have any problems reading it.
3mm wood (I think particle board) night stand.
5mm wood countertop (extremely surprised at this one)
My favorite... The glass table I have in my living room has three shale tiles in the middle, inlaid about 3mm down with a space between for separation between the rock and the glass. I have one on the center of a tile on the under-side and it reads great.
Next up (which I'm 100% certain it will read) lamp-shades, near my thermostat (under the plate), other general appliances.
I'll probably take my laptop apart and put an anti-metal under the keyboard someday lol.
All about the flux
NFC works with attenuating waves, not propagating. It comes down to whether the magnetic flux from the loop is strong enough to charge the tag up to a point where it's ID can be transposed back on the transmitting signal.
its called Near Field Communication for a reason

Can you read a tag on the other side of metal if it's an anti-metal tag?
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
GS3 on Verizon here...
I keep an NFC tag inside my leather wallet, when I need my balance I tap my phone to my wall, my phone texts my bank and responds with my balance. I use it all the time.
Those are cool ideas! Definitely a hit and miss as it's gonna depend on both the phone and the tag/type. Different tag types have slightly different strengths as far as receiving the magnetic field to create the pulse of energy needed as well as the distance of transmission of the signal/data.
It's always cool to have "hidden" tags. Of course sometimes it's not possible, so you just have to get ones that actually look good and blend most with where you're putting them.
Someone asked about anti-metal tags on the other side of metal - the answer to that is a definite no - won't work. The metal itself interferes with the magnetic field.

anti metal nfc tags have a shielding layer on them to stop the metal interfering, therefore you can place a tag ON TOP OF metal and read it still, but not behind metal.
Up for a review is the Mozeat 3 in 1 Lens Clip. The description on Amazon states it’s pretty much used for any phone size phone Android or iOs or even Windows.
To preface, I was given a test unit in return for an unbiased and fair review. I am not employed or paid to do these reviews. I tend to review items that I would personally use.
When I received the package, I had expected a small box, but upon opening, I could see two clips and two lenses. One was the Fisheye and the other was the Wide Angle/Macro lens. Included was a small carry pouch and a microfiber cloth to clean the lenses. Also some very basic install instructions are included.
I have used it on my Nexus 6 running Android N dev preview edition since I got it. I have a Ringke slim case with a dbrand installed on the back of the case itself. I have used the system completely with the case on. I take it that you should be able to use it with certain accessories on. For me, it works, but the dbrand skin is intended to be on the device, not a case so I cannot fault anyone but myself lol. But the system still works!
I honestly did not expect a lot from these lenses. I thought they would be like something I would get out of a cereal box, especially for the retail price of 14usd. I was honestly impressed with the quality of the photos off the bat. Admittingly, not realizing the macro was under the wide angle lens.
What do I like about it? The entire fingerprint is small on the phone. Using it on a my phone with a case works fine. Not sure if using it on a thicker case would work, but looking at the clip it may. I like the fit of the lens on top of the camera lens on the phone was fit and fit pretty perfectly.
The mixture of fisheye and wide angle then macro was pretty impressive for a small phone lens set up. The various pictures taken by my phone did what is advertised and pretty well quality. I personally take a bunch of macro pics of tech, watches and accessories; and using the macro takes bit used to. It’s recommended (on Amazon) to use the macro from half inch to an inch of the object being captured.
What don’t I like about it? The lens comes out for me when I remove the lens clip setup from the phone. You have to be really careful, and make sure the caps are on before handling the lenses or they will fall off and break or just get fingerprints on them. The entire setup takes a bit getting used to. It’s not an easy take out of your pocket and slide onto the phone, especially with a case on.
Based on the photos taken, is it worth the price? I think so. The lenses do work well as advertised. All the lenses look nice and look professional, but the clip that houses them are the weakest link when removing the unit from the phone.
However, the photos are great. Nice and clear and no black bars that I can see on my Nexus 6. I give it a 4 out of 5 Lens Caps :
To sweeten the deal, there is a code to get your very own for a 30% discount on Amazon. Not sure if it works outside of the US sorry!

Coming from an old Nexus 5x I has the Google Nexus fabric flip case. Was perfect for me.
I'm trying to find one for the Pixel 3 but it's impossible. Google no longer make a flip case, and all the 3rd party ones I can find are full wallet style cases which I don't want. Is this style out of fashion now?!
Also - if I end up with a wallet case, does anyone know if they auto shut lock/wake the phone when opening and closing the cover? I put my Pixel 3 in the old Nexus case but it doesn't seem to do it. Not sure if Pixels have the magnets for auto wake/lock for flip cases anymore?
Almost all Nexus and Pixel phones/tablet had that auto-lock magnet (like they almost all had a notification LED).
Yes, Pixel and Pixel 2 have the hall sensor (the magnet sensor that detects the cover over the screen). Guess what? Google removed it with Pixel 3 (like they did with the notification LED, laser autofocus and Trusted Faces).
So, I'm afraid. No auto-unlock when you open the cover.
And because of this, almost nobody would buy a cover. And because of this, good manufacturers won't product any flip-covers.
So yeah, you either get one of those crappy Chinese flimsy flip covers, or give up.
