Plastic over screen? - Moto Z2 Force Questions & Answers

This is the dumbest question I've probably ever asked on the internet, but my wife bought a Moto Z2. The first one had some sort of antenna issue shortly after she bought it, so we got a warranty replacement. I'm not looking over the phone to apply a new screen protector we bought and it appears there's already some sort of plastic protector over the screen, but I can't tell if it should be there or not. It feels so much more adhesive underneath than the factory plastic that protects screens. I'm afraid if I continue to peel it off it will leave behind some heavy residue. It almost feels like it's part of the screen itself.
My extremely dumb question: Am I not supposed to remove this plastic? Does anyone else see this on their phone? I can't seem to find anybody else reporting it. This is a factory replacement, so maybe it's refurbished and this is a screen protector from a previous owner?
Pictures of the part I'd begun peeling up before I realized this was not normal factory plastic.

I pulled all that plastic off of mine. The plastic is what make the shatter resisting. It is really hard to get off but I like it better without it. I had to use lots of GOO GONE to remove the left over adhesive but in the end it works and I just applied a glass screen protector afterwards.

Yeah mine is bubbling up around the speaker and fingerprint sensor.
I rooted mine, so I am not even sure I can get a warranty replacement

Yes it way better not having the plastic on and the device doesn't get the crazy scratches now either. But wonder how shatter resisting it is now

I found the screen scratch very very easy it may be shatter resistant to a point but the screen will scuff . My vzw.. z2 did if it touched any object even lightly ... any ways , put a glass protector on TMobile z2 and perfect no issues use the full body glass on Amazon it colors the edges black and rounds around all the sensors and camera and front flash .

Same issue from my Z2. I just left it on and put a new SP over it.

So this is the only thread I can find even close to what I was after so here goes. Have you guys or anyone used the liquid screen protector? I found some with a 120$ screen replacement guarantee from " you break I fix it" at Walmart for 10 $ USD. It got to cure for 24hr but so far so good on my Z2 force

The problem I have with liquid SPs is how do you know it's there and it's working? Say you gouge the screen, did you just gouge the SP or is the actual screen damaged? How do you tell? What if the SP becomes so scuffed or damaged that you want to replace it, how do you remove a liquid SP? The whole thing reminds me of the Emperor's new clothes lol. I just got a two pack of Supershieldz and it's solid. Fingerprint magnet, but still good.

I understand but I got this one because it's a 9 out of 10 on the hardness scale and there's a no questions asked up to 120$ screen replacement for 12 months as long as you register it. It seems good as of now .

guys. Where can I buy a new screen for $ 120? Link please?

It's a guarantee on the box that says they will pay for the screen up to $120. The place that will fix it is called "you break we fix" there are a couple on them close to where I live. I'm not sure where to get a link at that I can take a picture of the box and post it.

So at this point I don't know if it matters or not but just once putting that nano coating stuff on my Moto z2 force and no case on it at the whole time and I can say that it's bat **** crazy but not one scratch and I took a key and scraped at it some. I'm not a complete tard so I didn't go balls out on it but all messing around the stuff is legitimately great stuff. I did my Z2 and my wife's pixal and still have another tube of the stuff but the box guarantees at 4 a year just wanted application and at this point I bleave it. So i hope this helps someone because this phone is a beast.

I was the same way from some bad experiences with Zagg's way back when but it's so easy now. Key it to give it an hour or so off while it dry's before you turn it back on. Trust me, one of the best you will ever have.

I ordered 2, couldn't pass it up.
How are these compared to xtreme guard? I have some XGs in the mail and can't wait to get something to protect this beautiful phone, just kinda scared of bad protectors.
Zagg has an orange peel effect, and adds a tkn of friction making stuff like fruit ninja impossible.
Getting XG this week sometime.
Might order one of these just to see what's up with them. Need some more reviews first though.

In my opinion this slays the XG, i really feel like these are the best one's I've ever used. It feels so smooth, it's like it's not there. I mean if anything else. it's only $3 to find out. But dude, these protectors are awesome.

I would also like to add that the skinomi completely covers the whole front screen which wraps around the button and front speaker. It just leaves the ffc and proximity and light sensors uncovered.
I guess this is cheap.
I just placed my order even though I dont have the phone yet, but I will. Damn good price. the website is selling it for $19.95.

Thanks just ordered 2. I was actually just going to open a thread looking for a screen protector that actually covers the whole screen lol. Thanks to your post I dont have to.
I'm glad people at taking advantage of this. Mine arrived before my phone and i just left them in my car, didn't even want to look at them til the phone came. As soon as it was delivered, even before i turned i installed it. It took like 3mins and bam!!!!!! let it set for an hr and done. it's clear, super smooth and covers the whole screen.
Thanks again. Skinomi was just delivered. STILL WAITING ON THE PHONE, THOUGH.

Does it also cover the bevelled edges of the screen? I have tried two screen protectors and they both don't stick to the edges of the phone because of the bevel and it looks bad.

It comes with a screen protector on it. Also it comes with 2 in the box for the front and back.
For the front only. No back protector.
Does anyone know who is selling an oleophobic tempered glass screen protector yet? Bought one for my XZ and absolutely loved it.
I was surprised that only a front screen protector came in the box, I will be buying a Zagg HD screen protector when it comes out, always had the HD ones, easy to fit and great quality.

I have ordered one of these to give it a go as I always like the concept of screen protectors but the lack of feel on the touchscreen and the dust which creeps in bugs the hell out of me and it should arrive some time this week.
Will be leaving on the shatter protection and coating the back and front of my Z1 so after 24 hours I will be able to report back here (length of time it takes to fully harden)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007EZ3EM0/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If this can be used for 50 devices then it should pay for itself eventually with money saved from buying multiple screen protectors.

Yes, please let us know as I was looking at that. It seems a bit risky though as you have no idea really that it has worked (or not) until you get a gauge on it!

Dynaflow is now on and you really cannot tell it's even on (have I brought into some snake oil !! ) left the phone off for 24 hours and then turned it back on and gently buffed the screen and back afterwards.
Early days yet and will not be doing any kind of torture tests on my phone so if its still got a pristine screen after 6 months with normal use (even though I am incredibly careful with phones) I will be more likely start to believe this product works specially if I have any mishaps.
Really dubious right now and I am itching to put on a screen protector again as I can see that and know it works!

I also see to have problem finding glassprotectors with oleophobic coating. oleophobic is more than a must.

I purchased one of those " 10 screen protectors " cheap Chinese ones for about 1-2 pounds. Then I used one for the back of the phone (I cut the corner for the camera) - It dosent looks very pretty but If you are going to put a case on it and want to protect the back from scratching its a cheap solution

People tend to apply on top. I wouldn't treat the sony brand shatter proof film as a screen protector as its not replaceable. (and removing it would void warranty / may make the phone hard to sell in the future if you do.)
Buy a premium phone with glass and aluminum build for a **** load of money then cover it up with cheap plastic as soon as you get it out of the box. Yup, makes perfect sense to me.

Still not here (I expect them this week though), but I'll post some feedback when they are.
Only get one set in a pack so if I go ahead ill get two packs just in case.
I've got one from a 10 pack on the front and back atm. Absolutely terrible. Scratches out of nowhere! So bad I can feel them so really eager to get some proper ones. Never had any as bad as this! We're like £3.49 for 10 on eBay hah

Well.. I hope you have kitchen space
I just received the protector and (I probably didn't read the description well) I was surprised to find that it is a wet application one. Here is the installation process explained. It's a finicky, messy (wet) job. It is doable though. I recommend you wear latex gloves.
A word of warning: be careful when you are using the squeegee! I damaged a little part on the bottom edge when I was pressing to down too hard at first and, because of a bubble, the protector got snagged by the squeegee.
Now it needs to dry for 12 hours (which doesn't really matter as it'll be finished in the morning). I'm curious how it will turn out; the front cut out was perfect, though the back one seemed a little on the short side. It also comes with pieces to fit over the sides, but I didn't put them on.
On a personal note, this thing is only temporary, so I don't really care about a less than perfect fit or the fact that I damaged it a little. It just needs to hold out until the liquid sapphire gets here.
I like skinomi adds a bit of a rubbery feel I put them on front and back helps with the slipperiness as I don't use a case

Do it myself? If so where are parts and is it doable?

Screen cracked to easily, but I am very satisfied with repair.
Good luck with yours.
Did the same (in germany I had to use ups). Same price. Still waiting for repaired phone in return. Last year I was lucky with my 1+1 to get a new phone when I send phone in with cracked glass (but I costs 130 Euro) .

Above is a replacement LCD, and below is a you tube year down which should help you disassemble.

I'm in US, so all prices/video in USD/eng. Didn't see where you were from, sorry. But quite frankly, it may just be cheaper to have oneplus so it. So I'd get a quote first, and weigh of the replacement risks of doing it yourself.

You Can just replace glass if ts is working fine
screen still works fine it's the glass that shattered. Is there a different part? I'm in the US.

actually replacing the glass in not as easy as you may think. the screen is stuck with some sort of glue to the glass. in removing it with a heat gun and the sticky residual there are chances that you can chip your screen or something. its better to get it done from a trusted shop.

isnt oneplus offering any insurance there in us? in india we are getting a year of free accidental cover, double internet data with the carrier "idea" and 500 inr worth of kindle credit.
DONT REPLACE THE GLASS ONLY REPLACE THE ENTIRE LCD. trust me replacing the glass only will never be the same, the display will not be as responsive due to the glue used and sometimes the glue may be noticeable by just looking at the phone. call one plus in NY and see how much is the repair. or if they sell the lcd by itself for self repair. (probably not) the number 646-851-2228
needs to be asked, why was your wife using your phone and did you consider replacing her? jkjk
If you're in the United States, I am also in the US, and I do screen repair 4 tons of different phones, but I'm doing the OnePlus 3 and it seems like I'm the only technician around it's doing them right now. I have a very good supplier and have full LCD digitizer glass combo, so if you're interested, PM me and I can help you out. Since you're an XDA head, we can work something out where you just pay me for the actual display and shipping and I'll waive the repair fee. I think it's against the rules to do business on the board so just PM me.

I'm a diy person myself. But agree on the glass only replacement. Did it with a flat faced LCD on my note 3 and it was never the same. Never again, it's either the whole LCD/digitizer combo or live with it for me.

Tempered Glass screen protector(s)

Hi all,
Starting this thread to see which tempered glass protector is best for the u11 plus.
The phone apparently, from what I’ve read, has a flat front display which should make it easier to find good protection.
I have mine preordered with HTC in the UK and am patiently awaiting delivery for me to be able to test some I bought from Amazon.
Please feel free to add any of your own experiences and opinions.
Thanks all!

Ive pre ordered the phone but already brought a screen protector from ebay, as its a flat front with no finger reader it looks pretty simple. Once I get the phone I will post some pics but only cost £3 so cant moan if it not perfect.
Mine came with a tempered glass. It seems official from HTC. Haven't placed it yet though so I wouldn't know about quality.

The one i got off ebay was crap, it just fills the screen itself rather than all the little bezels.
Got one from Brotec, it's crap, too small and it's peeling at the top, bought another brand from amazon.
Bought the below linked one and it's pretty much perfect for me.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07799J3ZH?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd
Full screen coverage and full adhesive too! I'm definitely impressed.

I bought this too, wouldn't stick, acted like it was flat and the screen was curved. It's in the bin now awaiting a replacement...
got this one and was a load of crap, fine for a day then started peeling on each edge
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0777MH2C4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Got another one on order so will come back when i get it.
You might have been unlucky I guess or I was lucky lol.

Another 1 not to buy, fits really well, sticks well but the glass part as no sticky bits which means there is a tiny gap between glass and protector which makes a oily like bubble in the the middle of the screen

I bought the same but I have the same problem, edges are white as if the screen is curved.
I asked the company to give me the other screen protector they have but it`s even worst: it doesn`t even cover the panel and it`s still white on the edges.

best one I have brought so far, considering ive brought 4 is https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Pack-HT...8AAOSwfVhaO9Zh
I'm not 100% happy with it but its staying on. I had to give it about 3/4 days for the middle to bed down properly but not it has its not too bad at all.

Thanks for the reply but the link doesn`t work
Bought this one: https://www.amazon.es/Protector-Oly...8&qid=1515012199&sr=8-2&keywords=htc+u11+plus
It's much better than Brotec, but it's not perfect, can see the residue from the glue on the corners.
Thinking in buying this one from ultimateshield: https://www.ultimateshield.co.uk/co.../htc-u11-plus-tempered-glass-screen-protector
It sucks so much trying to find a decent screen protector that works with a case! I tried the beyeah one and it didn't work with my case, the edges lifted. Tried the more cut out version just to find out that it doesn't even cover the whole screen horizontally wtf? I'm just thinking about giving up

Yes same situation here. Tried both of Beyeah screen protector but they are really bad, one is too big and the other is too small.
I don`t know why is so difficult to cut the screen protector correctly, it should be easy
the best one I found is this one : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Pack-H...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649
its pretty much full coverage with slight gaps for a case, its stayed stuck down for nearly a week now! The main downside is there's sometimes a gap in the middle as it doesn't have sticky stuff on the glass itself. this displays as a oily like tiny part but it hardly noticeable, only really see it in certain light conditions. The longer I've had it on the better its got so not really an issue for me.
Ugh, this is a pain to find a decent screen protector for the device. I'm considering Ultimate Shield Tempered Glass Screen Protector, however that ADDS big bezels onto the side bezels of the phone; as seen in videos of Ultimate Shield Screen Protectors. There is a good one by Olixar but that is for Pre-Order only, and waiting for it to come out but have been waiting for a while. Any suggestions anyone?

I bought this same one on the day you posted this and I've had no issues with it. Is a good fit and hasn't caused any issues with my case.
Originally bought that terrible beyeah one that didn't even fit the screen and that went back for an immediate refund.

Just ordered this one, lets see how it functions.
As for the list "not to buy" https://www.belsimpel.nl/accessoire-detail/mobilize-safety-glass-screenprotector-htc-u11-plus
Its from a dutch company. The screen protector is WAAY to small for the screen.
