On the Moto Z2 play I cannot figure out how to change the notification setting so that when I receive a text I do not get a preview of it in the notification bar. Is there anyway this can be done? I just want a notification I got a text not a preview of the message. Help!

One way to turn it off is to do so in the display part in the Moto app; go into Moto Display, select More Settings (in blue text), then Block apps and choose whichever messaging app you use / are blocking.
Hope this is what you need.
Didn't work
Just tried doing this and it didn't change anything at all.

I use my GNex as my primary workhouse. The ONLY thing it doesnt do that I would love (and honestly, I need it) is for a lockscreen notification for my calendars and maybe even SMS.
When my screen is locked, I get the vibration/sound but I really would like it to light up the screen and show a popup notification (aka iPhones)
How can I get this? I suspect an App won't do? Do any ROM's support this (AOKP?)
Does such a thing exist?
For text messages, check out SMS popup - not sure if it works on a lockscreen or not but seems to be a solid app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.everythingandroid.smspopup&hl=en
Use Notifierpro

Lockscreen notifications
Hi.
Nicolas from Productigeeky here, creator of NotifierPro.
To get lockscreen notifications, you may want to try our last app LockerPro Lockscreen.
This is a lockscreen replacement with stacking notifications.
Regards.
Any way to disable the text message display on the lock screen? The counter from before was perfect. This new thing is going to get me so busted.

since am not on 4.3 yet, am sure there are settings on the messaging app to disable that and or the settings on lockscreen settings to disable text notification on lockscreen or use a different app like whatsApp that will help a ton
I want it back like it was before 4.3 If you open the text app and settings all the way at the bottom all it shows that you Disable or enabled it but it's like one or the other.. Lame..

I got hooked up with the setting on another forum. It's in the menu within the text app. Uncheck the preview option. You lose both the notification line preview and the lockscreen preview.

Yup. Unchecked the preview message option. Now the lock screen just has a big box which says "new message."

I have a S3 and just received my 4.3 update yesterday. This morning I noticed that I had a txt message because of the "new message" on my lock screen. I'm not sure what I changed but I no longer get that notification. I don't want the message preview just the big box which says 'new message'. Any ideas would be much appreciated!!
Under the Messaging app settings, I currently have "Preview message" unchecked. I also have "Flash notification" unchecked.
Thanks in advance!!!
I am debating getting this phone but I just want to see what do the lock screen notifications look like. Like what do missed text messages and what not look like on this device on the lockscreen. If someone can post a screen shot of that on here that would be great!

the notifications look good but only work for missed calls/texts. Any ideas on how to get Android L heads up to work? The xposed module crashes the ui.
Do text notifications only show like that if you are using stock message?
I use chomp and you just get the icon in the notification bar

I remember in the past to be able to set a text tone to a specific contact. I see the option for a ringtone but where did the option go for message (text) tones.

That would probably be a feature in the text messaging app that you are using. Was it a global Android feature? I don't remember ever seeing anything like that in the Android settings menu.

I remember using that feature with the Android messaging app with the Nexus 6P. But has been a while.

Open a text message with the contact you wanna set the ringtone for. In the top right of the conversation thread hit the 3 buttons, then choose people & options then notifications.

Wow, I had no idea that feature was even there. Android seems to hide a lot of cool features for some reason.
So its new phone day (well its day 3) and i have problems i hope you have solutions. So the old phone (also running pie) ment i could change my text tone (tone1) facebook notifications (tone 2).
So i now have tone one as the default tone but it now is every tone on the phone, so easy go in the app and change it. Except messages does not have a sound option for notification.
Not to worry i think i can just change facebooks sound ....nope that don't have a sound for notification section ... ah i think i can turn facebook sound off .... i only need to see the notification in the shade ... nope facebook doesn't have that either ... any advice?
Thanks in advance
