Any way to disable the text message display on the lock screen? The counter from before was perfect. This new thing is going to get me so busted.

since am not on 4.3 yet, am sure there are settings on the messaging app to disable that and or the settings on lockscreen settings to disable text notification on lockscreen or use a different app like whatsApp that will help a ton
I want it back like it was before 4.3 If you open the text app and settings all the way at the bottom all it shows that you Disable or enabled it but it's like one or the other.. Lame..

I got hooked up with the setting on another forum. It's in the menu within the text app. Uncheck the preview option. You lose both the notification line preview and the lockscreen preview.

Yup. Unchecked the preview message option. Now the lock screen just has a big box which says "new message."

I have a S3 and just received my 4.3 update yesterday. This morning I noticed that I had a txt message because of the "new message" on my lock screen. I'm not sure what I changed but I no longer get that notification. I don't want the message preview just the big box which says 'new message'. Any ideas would be much appreciated!!
Under the Messaging app settings, I currently have "Preview message" unchecked. I also have "Flash notification" unchecked.
Thanks in advance!!!

What's the icon on upper left corner?
It seems that all my notification icons are not displayed on the status bar, but still in the pull-down menu.
And the sound notification seems also disabled.
Does anyone know how to disable/enable this option?
I can't remember how I did it.
Thanks

Pull down the notification pane. Scroll the top part with the buttons to your left. You'll see a "Notification" button. Make sure it's green (enabled) and it should go away. If not, another app may be controlling it but that's unlikely.

There isn't a button for notification, but it should tell you what's "on going"

I mean if you have a process actively running it should look like this (I.e. my alarm clock is on going)

When I would get a text message on the M7 I would slide the notification up and it would launch the SMS app. On the M8, from what I've seen, I have to slide it down so it opens a box like a widget and then click it? Am I doing something wrong or has HTC made the process more difficult?
Same for me. So strange.
I'm able to slide the text box up and it opens from there

Not sure brother, I'm all stock and it came that way for me. Any of the four icons, sliding up on them from the lock screen will open them. As with the sms, slide up, will open the new message. Using the default sms app
Wish I could help you out
you could try turning off the default lockscreen notifications and using Nils or another overlay app. I know these are clickable.
Is there a way I can choose which notification shows up on the lockscreen? Specifically I want to have only one app show notification on the lockscreen, but not others. In order to do that I have to disable notifications of all other apps. But I want other apps to show notification in the notification bar, just not on the lock screen. Any way to do this?

On nougat, theoretically yes. Go to settings -> notifications. Then click the settings gear at the top. Should give lock screen notification options of all, hide sensitive content, hide all.
I think you can hide all here, then go to the individual app you want to show, and change it to show for that specific app.
Never tried this myself. Ymmv.

Once I choose "don't show at all" under settings - notification, I cannot enable notification on the lockscreen for specific app. However doing the exact opposite might do the trick. Under settings - notification, I choose "show all contents", then for specific app, I can choose "don't show" on the lock screen. This is very tedious, but it might do what I want my phone to do...

Once you clicked don't show notification at all, click on a app or game that you want to display the notification in lockscreen.
Then click "On the lockscreen" then "show all notification content".
Hope this helps you.
I remember in the past to be able to set a text tone to a specific contact. I see the option for a ringtone but where did the option go for message (text) tones.

That would probably be a feature in the text messaging app that you are using. Was it a global Android feature? I don't remember ever seeing anything like that in the Android settings menu.

I remember using that feature with the Android messaging app with the Nexus 6P. But has been a while.

Open a text message with the contact you wanna set the ringtone for. In the top right of the conversation thread hit the 3 buttons, then choose people & options then notifications.

Wow, I had no idea that feature was even there. Android seems to hide a lot of cool features for some reason.
On the Moto Z2 play I cannot figure out how to change the notification setting so that when I receive a text I do not get a preview of it in the notification bar. Is there anyway this can be done? I just want a notification I got a text not a preview of the message. Help!

One way to turn it off is to do so in the display part in the Moto app; go into Moto Display, select More Settings (in blue text), then Block apps and choose whichever messaging app you use / are blocking.
Hope this is what you need.
Didn't work
Just tried doing this and it didn't change anything at all.
