I see that Google has the Google Assistant app out now for download. I have Google Assistant working fine on my Nexus 5X running 8.0. I'm just wondering if I'm missing out on quicker updates by not having that app installed. Is there any advantage or disadvantage to having Google Assistant installed on a phone that already has the Google app installed.
I got a couple home minis coming and want to set them up to work with hey Google while my phone (Pixel 2 XL) responds to ok Google. I read somewhere someone describing doing this but can't recall where or how.
Problem us, my phone assistant doesn't seem to have a way to disable hey Google. If I delete and retrain the voice model it asks for three ok Google and then one hey Google no matter what.
Anyone know where/how I can get the phone assistant to ignore hey Google so I don't activate my phone and home minis at the same time?
I'd like to know this, too.

Try uninstalling the Google app updates. Then retrain. It only asks for OK Google until you install the Google updates. Not sure if you are forced to retrain with hey Google after updating again.
Yeah that's kind of a weird thing. When I'm going to bed and I want the lights off my device is all turned on and try to fight to turn off the light first. Google needs to work on this
What you can when you train the voice so the okay Google on your phone in your normal voice and hey Google in a high pitched voice you'd never use.
Reverse it for your Google home. So when you do okay Google in your normal voice your phone will activate and when you do hey Google in your normal voice your home will activate.

Your Google home mini will take precedence when saying hey or ok Google near him and the phone, don't worry.
I did this last night.
Phone: use OK Google
mini: use Hey Google
Seems to work and the voice recognition works between myself and the kids.

It is just script on a screen.
Say whatever you want.
I have a couple of Google Homes. Most of the time my phone and Home could figure out which way i was talking but not everytime.
i blew away the voice training.
I only use "OK Google" on my phone
I only use "Hey Google" with my home.
No issues since.

I thought the same and only ever said ok Google for the training but it responds if I say hey Google nonetheless.
A thread to discuss various google assistant issues and resolutions. If in wrong section please move
I have had issues on global rom with Google Assistant and now when I have used Lineage and RR I still have issues. On RR Ok google works from lock screen and in OS. But I get google voice search instead of assistant. I got the option as a notification to test the new assistant but when I press the notification it disappears and nothing happens. This is what it looks like to me. Any solution to this so you have assistant instead of voice search? For example, you cannot use routines with voice search.
I had the same problem with flash of XASP. Problem with my home lights .
You must to link your Google account, even if it is linked and do the voice match assistant even if you have already done it.
So I got Alexa working on the watch.
Thanks to the great tool from this thread and a rather old link from reddit (alexa apk) it's on the watch now.
It is connecting to the phone (Pixel 7 Pro) and working.
There are some things not working properly however:
- Voice activation doesn't work (even when the app is opened)
- if you tap to ask something and abort that by closing alexa on the watch, alexa on the phone steps in to announce shes got connection problems.
- you can't set it to be the standard assistant app for the watch, google assistant remains the only option shown
Furthermore, as this is my first smartwatch I am still not too sure about the playstore for it and so on, thus I don't know if the alexa app will update allthough its sideloaded onto the device.
Maybe an update would even cure one or two of the problems?
Has anyone gotten any further than me?
Hi, you can install the Ultimate Alexa app on the Watch and link it to your Amazon account. Works pretty well for me.
