I got a couple home minis coming and want to set them up to work with hey Google while my phone (Pixel 2 XL) responds to ok Google. I read somewhere someone describing doing this but can't recall where or how.
Problem us, my phone assistant doesn't seem to have a way to disable hey Google. If I delete and retrain the voice model it asks for three ok Google and then one hey Google no matter what.
Anyone know where/how I can get the phone assistant to ignore hey Google so I don't activate my phone and home minis at the same time?
I'd like to know this, too.

Try uninstalling the Google app updates. Then retrain. It only asks for OK Google until you install the Google updates. Not sure if you are forced to retrain with hey Google after updating again.
Yeah that's kind of a weird thing. When I'm going to bed and I want the lights off my device is all turned on and try to fight to turn off the light first. Google needs to work on this
What you can when you train the voice so the okay Google on your phone in your normal voice and hey Google in a high pitched voice you'd never use.
Reverse it for your Google home. So when you do okay Google in your normal voice your phone will activate and when you do hey Google in your normal voice your home will activate.

Your Google home mini will take precedence when saying hey or ok Google near him and the phone, don't worry.
I did this last night.
Phone: use OK Google
mini: use Hey Google
Seems to work and the voice recognition works between myself and the kids.

It is just script on a screen.
Say whatever you want.
I have a couple of Google Homes. Most of the time my phone and Home could figure out which way i was talking but not everytime.
i blew away the voice training.
I only use "OK Google" on my phone
I only use "Hey Google" with my home.
No issues since.

I thought the same and only ever said ok Google for the training but it responds if I say hey Google nonetheless.

Don't know if I changed some settings by accident, but the Google Now voice search is not working. After I speak into the mic, , the can't recognize what I said but rather keeps runingin circles trying to understand me. Same happens in the Google navigation voice search. Used to be working fine in both apps.

I think this might be due to doze. Could you change the setting to "Don't Optimise" for the Google app in Battery settings?

I can't because google is not listed there only non system apps. When I went to apps to see if I can change there there was no option there.
I've ran into the same issue unfortunately you have to wake the screen up to call Google, kinda defeats the purpose
There's also another setting in the Google app under voice called "Voice Match" and there's an option to unlock the phone with it. Try that?
EDIT: I would try this on my phone, but I've removed the Google app from system so I'm not sure if it will work for me.

This is not in Google Assistant, it's in the Google (Now) app.

If you download any of the new Betas, the voice match is in there, but it's really just the new title for Ok Google Detection. And I still can't use it with the screen off which is ridiculous.
I've had the same problem after recently upgrading to Oreo stable release, Oxygen OS v5.0.4 on my 5t. And after some troubleshooting I was able to fix my issue. I'm sharing it here so it would help someone else as well.
Below are the exact issues I had.
1. OK Google voice detection was not working.
2. Voice input using Mic button on Google keyboard was not working.
3. Voice training was not working during Google assistant setup.
Troubleshooting I did:
I checked if there is any hardware problem with my phone's mic by using voice recorder app, it turned out I was able to record voice and playback well without any issues.
Then I searched on oneplus Forum and found out a testing code that would help to test mic using phone's built-in manufacturing test following below instruction. It was successful as well.
Dial *#808* -> scroll down to "single MIC recording test" there you can test all 3 microphones
Finally I went to apps and uninstalled "Google" app. This won't totally uninstall the Google app but will just revert to an older version. And that miraculously seem to have fixed my problems.
After the step 3 all the issues I have mentioned above were fixed and now I am able to open the Google assistant using "Ok Google" and I am able to use voice input in Google keyboard and also I'm able to train my voice in google assistant. Not sure where and what's the bug. Could be that OnePlus's Oreo update was faulty. I'm Just relieved that I didn't have to go through oneplus online support to reflash my phone's OS or to return my phone for service centre as suggested in some of the oneplus forum threads. In fact I am typing some of this messages using my Gboard voice input. I hope this helps someone else too.
Ok so I'm trying to get my pixel 2 xl to unlock straight to the assistant with the "ok google" voice command, bypassing the lockscreen but it keeps asking for my passcode, even though I have set the "Unlock with Voice Match" switch on in the assistant settings. I also retrained my voice and still no luck.
Any suggestions? it seems to be a bug or something.

Don't know if this will help or not. Have you tried clearing the Google app data and cache. Reboot, then try again. Just spitballing.
I'm now having the same problem. Seems like it happened right after I signed up for the Google play services beta though. Did you sign up for that as well?

I tried that, had to retrained the voice command and all that, still asking for passcode.

No I did not sign up for that.
Just turn ooff and back on the ok google from any screen and voice unlock on the assistant settings, then retrain a couple of times, try using various tones when doing so
Mine has been doing that as well. Never had this issue before
I've always had this issue. Works after delete voice training, then redo it. But, it reverts back to asking for passcode.

Ditto. It drives me crazy! It never seems to recognise my voice. On the plus side, I got the Google Home Mini free, and despite being an Alexa girl I decided to keep it to play around (and compare with). So if I'm trying to set phone reminders and the like while I'm my living room, it gets picked up by the Mini and a stubborn phone doesn't matter.
...though it's still a pain anywhere else of course. Especially if you're out and about and just want to talk to the phone instead of typing. Frankly it always seems to pick the most inconvenient times possible to decide it doesn't know who I am. Grrrr....

After V9.3.28 pie updated, I cannot say 'ok google' to launch google assistant.
Although google assistant commands work,
Just voice match grey out and yes you still can press and been told you enable voice match.
But voice match option still grey after all.
Because I do a lot of thing to set up my phone, just want to figure it out only my problem or you guys meet the same thing.

I have met this issue also!
Only real solution was to make factory reset and after that everything was working as advertised!
Hi all!
I got my RM8P yesterday. I really like the device, but definitely see the software lackings that everyone has mentioned.
My current bugs:
1. I copied my data from my Pixel 6 Pro to the RMP8. It also copied the lock screen text I had "My Google Pixel 6 Pro, *****es". So when I go into personalized setting to try to change this text, it won't let me. When I click the option, it just goes back to the Settings menu.
2. More importantly, my voice dictation/voice to text functionality is now broken. It was fine until this afternoon when I updated a bunch of apps in Play Store. Now, no voice dictation is working for any app. I've tried every possible app and rebooting. The OK Google still works so it's "hearing" my voice in general.
Any feedback?
Thanks!
EDIT: I figured out that enabling Google Assistant (Hey Google) broke the voice dictation. Strange that it breaks it.

I was about to tell you that disabling hey google fixed the dictation thing. The first os layer is funny af, it does that and doesn't carry the swipe between apps gesture. And a bunch of things, I worked the hey google with the swipe from a corner gesture tbh I don't use Google assistant that much but still it was a thing

I don't use hey Google assistant too often, but I do use it occasionally. It's just strange that I have to choose between enabling that functionality and enabling voice dictation. I guess I'll choose the voice dictation and give up Google assistant or enable it when I feel I need to use it at times. I'm not sure it's a Red Magic thing as it may be a broader Android thing.

Pretty sure it's only a redmagic thing. Their support has been largely useless when I attempted to alert them to this issue.

Hello, I have Alexa installed as the main assistant, if you select it as the default transcription program, it already works for you to transcribe messages. The failure after several tests I have realized that when you select Google as an assistant it stops working, the mobile does not listen to you. I have already opened several incidents on the Magic network page but they only tell me that I formatted the mobile.
