Phone won't stop charging after 100% - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After Android 8.1 update, when I plugged in my phone to the charger, some charging options appeared. I changed it to see what's happened and now my phone won't stop charging after it charges to 100%.
I checked all options in settings and can't find that. Even factory reset didn't help.

Question: how do you know it's "still charging"?

Battery Died Over Night?

I started with 80% on Windows Mobile, launched Android, and slept with it sleeping on Android.
I had it under my pillow and I did notice that the phone was hot whenever I picked it up (After an hourish)
In the morning when I wake up the phone is dead.
Any explanation? The phone's backlight was fully off and the phone was locked. Normally on Windows Mobile 80% battery can last me two full days before I need to charge again.
I thought the full sleep was completed on the Android?
Also it shows that it's charging even after I unplug it? I'm using the latest Android on Launcherpro
o my gosh do some effing research first!!!!!! that answer is in the android build thread.
but to answer your questions....
full sleep is working its just that they still havent got the battery voltage or something like that working right so it still drains and its hot cause the drivers still arent working right in some things.
but all of this is from the top of my head so im pretty sure that im wrong with one of those but just go to the build thread use the SEARCH button..
and have fun with your android
Do you know how hard it is to find anything in that thread... It's like finding a needle in a haystack.
Okay so I just booted it without my charger plugged in and it shows that it is charging? But no LED.
I open Battery Indicator and it says "Charging from 32%" and it stays there... Never changes.
Now then if I plug in my charger... nothing changes. No LED even. Just "Charging from 32%" as before... Really weird.

There are many posts concerning the current battery issues with the Rhodium. I suggest reading them. There's even a sort of fix if you don't mind losing wifi.

Actually you don't lose WiFi anymore.
I used that battery fix but I'm still having this same issue... It says I'm charging even if I'm not.
I think my phone didn't enter deep sleep mode... for one of two reasons... I had windows live messenger running.. or it thought it was charging, and it doesn't sleep while it charges? Dunno.
Maybe I'll re-install it all..
I fixed my issue. I figure it had something to do with the update utility in WinMo. I re-installed Android and added only the zimage from the Battery fix and ran that, and everything works. The first time I had updated the Android using the utility first. All good now. Weird stuff.

Worked for me on my WF using CM 7!
Okay I will try this, nut what about app Battery Calibration, does it work ?
Don't use an app because it is software based, but the guide i've posted is hardware based!
Ok thanks for the information !

1. While in Android, charge up to 100% and leave the phone plugged in.
it dosen't charge up to 100% to use this method
In this case 100% are the maximum you can reach. You can check the exact battery status in system settings!

Yes, I meant that.
Does it show 71% in your phone settings, too?

1. Sorry, haven't thought about that. Yes, it has to be rooted.
2. If your phone is rooted you can find it with root explorer.
3. Yes, for rooting your phone needs to be S-OFF
Maybe you can use that one - found it in another topic:
1. Power on your phone then connect to your Charger and Fully charge until the LED changes Green.
2. Disconnect your phone from the charger and then power off.
3. Reconnect your phone to your charger with the power off and wait for the green LED.
4. Disconnect the phone from the charger and power it on.
5. Once the phone has fully booted / ready to use ... power off again.
6. With the power off connect the phone to the charger and wait for the green LED.
7. Disconnect from the Charger then power on and use normally.
Needs no root, but I haven't tried that yet. Most of the users said that it worked, but keep in mind that battery calibration can always damage your battery.
My battery never charge up to 100% last time i saw green light from fulfully charged phone was last year. I can charge it for 48 hours turned of it still wont be green
Which status is shown in phone->status->battery status?

Every device that I've ever owned (including iPhones) show it's still charging in the status bar even when it's done. Most usually have an LED that turns blue or green when it's finished, but they all still show charging in the status bar

Battery icon or battery information not showing charging but still is why?

Just trying to get my head around this dumb battery charging issue. Seems that some Roms the wife's kindle charges but doesn't say/show anything is actually charging. Some Roms show charging under battery information. All Roms don't show battery charging icon. Also the light on the power button works or doesn't work. Can someone explain all this so I can understand.. Its pretty bizarre.. Thanks
I will try to first give you the short answer then I will make an attempt at the long one. The charging issue is directly related to the kernel.... the long one... the icon will not indicate charging ever... go to about phone or tablet and status plug it in if it still says discharging unplug and replug if it still say discharging reboot then try again.. its common for the light to flicker amber when charging and not remain static at some point it will go green near the end of the charge... bottom line its just the nature of the beast...high usage fast or slow charge erratic indications all part of the animal...

Thanks for the explanation! What you mentioned is exactly what we have been seeing. It does charge so knowing its kernel related thing works for me.
I'm having a similar problem, I know it charges by going to the settings menu. The problem comes from when the Kindle goes to sleep, I always had a light come out of the button, but after installing Jandycane the light wont come on. It's hard to know if it is charging or not, anyone have the same problem?

Everyone has the same problem that's just how it is on JB and I believe ICS roms. The kernel needs fixed, but there are other issues that are most likely higher priority.
Sent from my ICS Dinc2
I have Hashcode's kernel and have flashed many ROMs. I'm on Hellfire's now . I find that if you charge in TWRP the light acts normal, stays red while charging and turns green at 90%. It may be my particular kf but try it , it might work.

Battery charging pausing/resuming

Do you know an app, which stops battery charging at specific battery level? I have tried few of them from magisk respository, however neither of them supports Lenovo P2.

@mbemba
I'm using the control file "Generic charging_enabled" . Nothing else is selected. But at the moment I'm not sure if it only does a cosmetic change. The program is possibly stopping the battery counter at 80% while charging continues.

I am happy to know that someone has this working with the P2, there is some hope!
However, as many others remarked until recently (here and here), I also notice that as soon as the screen goes off, the background charging resumes.
I wonder which is the trick in your case. Do you configure your P2 not to sleep when charging? That is, then the screen is always on...

Check your options, maybe sth is different, because my P2 isnt charging even when the screen is off.
@Lucio73 You can set "keep the screen active" in the developer options while chargeing. But for me it works with screen off, too. You should check your battery saving options. Maybe you force battery limiter to go to sleep when the screen is off. I further have to make a note that it is only working with socket chargers. I doesn't limit chargeing while it is attached to an USB port of a PC. An other option is to test a lower limit like 70%.
I noticed that the chargeing status changes within minutes after hitting the limit if you attach it afterwards to an USB-PC-Port. The limit is set to 73% for example. The Lenovo P2 is charged through a socket charger until 73%. The charge status increases within a few minutes from 73% to 80% when the P2 is attached to a PC afterwards . So there seems to be an offset of about 7%.
RR-O-v6.2.1-20190130-kuntao-Unofficial + magisk + Battery Charge Limit works for me
