Wrong time and date in TWRP when having LineageOS installed - LineageOS Questions & Answers

Hi,
I have TWRP 3.1.1 installed on my LG G4 (h815). My current OS is Lineage, but I always have a backup of the stock rom on my sd card, so that I can switch between Stock Rom and Lineage whenever I want.
When I have the stock rom installed and boot into TWRP, the date and time is correct.
But when I have LineageOS installed and boot into TWRP, the time is wrong and I'm somewhen in 2015.
My backups include the partitions: System, Data, Boot
So I restored them separately to find out, which partition "holds the date and time". It is the Data partition. When I have Lineage installed and restore my Data partition from the Stock Rom, my time in TWRP is correct again. So for some reason, the time of the Data partition of LineageOS is wrong. I checked the time in Lineage, but there it is correct set. It is only wrong in TWRP.
Any idea how I can correct the time on my Lineage Data partition?

I don't have the problem anymore. I updated LineageOS from the latest official build to the latest unofficial testing build for BUGBASH-498.
As a side effect, this build also fixed my time and date problem in TWRP. So it was a bug of LineageOS, which is fixed now.
Anyway, thanks for you reply

I've noticed the same issue with the time in TWRP on my LG G4.
How interesting that this was fixed for you by the same code change that hopefully when merged will also allow nightly updates to be released again for the h811 I have.

We won't get new official nightly builds until this bug got fixed:
https://jira.lineageos.org/browse/BUGBASH-498
Until than, you can use my unofficial build, if you want:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lineage/general/temporary-unofficial-builds-h815-t3721909

I have OP3T with latest official TWRP. Date and time is incorrect but i can change on twrp on the terminal however after reboot it will jump back to the incorrect one. Any idea to fix it?
I was succesfully pulling out the build.prop but when i try to edit on my PC just can not find the date and time line...

Updating LineageOS 14.1 for Samsung S4

I installed an unofficial OFFICIAL nightly build of LineageOS 14.1 on an S4 i19505, following the lineage wiki guide for jfltexx devices (not allowed to post a direct link as I'm a new user) - installed via Samsung's "Download mode". It went smoothly, and I have been using it more or less without issue for the last week. Yesterday I was prompted for an OS update, dated the 17th, to replace the current one from the 10th. I clicked the download/install button and followed the on-screen instructions. However, when it arrived at TWRP it did not automatically install, and when I tap "install" and browse to /data/data/org.lineageos.updater/app_updates there is no image or zip file there.
I'm looking for advice on how to sort out this particular update, but also ideally to fix it so that it automatically updates successfully in future - if I have to download the file manually and then update it manually, that's quite a nuisance.
I don't have that much past experience with CM/LineageOS so I may be doing something obviously wrong, if so I'd love to hear it!

A unofficial LOS normally has no built in OTA updater. Maybe yours has downloaded an official nightly. You will find it in /data/lineageos_updates
Oops, it isn't the unofficial build, it's the one from lineageos org/jfltexx . Does that change anything? Thanks anyway.

That changes everything. Try to install up-to-date twrp. Maybe that does the automatic update. Otherwise just flash the downloaded zip, wipe cache and dalvik and reboot system.

TWRP is only a week old, so could it really be that? I'd also kind of like to know what the problem is before doing the manual OS update or I'll likely be here again in a week...
No, the auto-updater doesn't work with the S4.
You need to download on your computer, then transfer to the SD card. Do a dirty install from TWRP after that.

After OTA upgrade, lost SIM and IMEI

Hey guys,
I just upgraded htc 10 to the latest official version of lineageos, but the installation got stuck in recovery and then I restarted normally.
Unfortunately, I lost the radio signal: no SIM detected! What do you recommend? Can I flash the previous build without encrypt / decrypt issues on partition phone?
I'm on nougat firmware, S-OFF.
Thanks in advance,
Robe
Some details might help .....

It might be useful to know more specifics about the device we are talking about ? Did you make a COMPLETE Nandroid backup (e.g. with TWRP) before you tried flashing the new image, etc.... What was on it before? What did you (not) wipe prior to attempting the install.... SPECIFICALLY, one could ASSUME a previous LOS build, but assumptions are often dangerous. Also, shouldn't lose the IMEI absent a serious glitch. You CAN blow it away if you wipe the area in TWRP but that would lead to a hope that you also backed it up first. If you CAN, restore what was there before all of this unhappiness began and try again ? Good Luck.

Hi nezlek! You're right: here some useful answer.
Device we are talking about ? HTC 10
Did you make a COMPLETE Nandroid backup ? No... :silly:
What was on it before? lineage-14.1-20180411-nightly-pme-signed.zip
When OTA update has been notified, I installed using the rom tool (not twrp). During the update procedure it stopped in twrp, so I just restarted to system. Then I noticed that the radio did not work anymore...
PS: it's more safer to flash the new build in twrp or continue to use system rom ota update?
Ouch

FIRST - Always better (in my book) to flash with TWRP. Others my have different experiences and opinions but it has never let me down.
You predicament is, in a word, not good. If I were you, I would first try re-flashing the previous Lineage build via TWRP. Unfortunately you are probably going to lose some data in all of this. If anything works well enough to backup your system and data partitions, do that first and move that to removable storage and remove it so it is SAFE. Maybe you have Titanium Backup and can do some of the pieces you need ?? Boot into TWRP and re-flash the build file that was on it before this all started. If that "dirty" flash doesn't give you anything useful, try wiping cache, davlik, etc... and repeating (a full factory reset). If THAT fails, download the zip file(s) - LOS, su-add-on, gapps, etc... and pretend you are doing it for the first time (maybe even wipe data and system but then, your stuff is GONE without a backup). But at this point, what have you got to lose? ASSUMING you get things back to a proper working condition, only then do a complete backup and ponder starting over again. The radio, who knows? Losing the IMEI info is much more of a problem since carriers will often not like that. I know it is trivially easy to restore IMEI data on an MTK device, but yours I have no personal knowledge of. There ARE places that will apparently do it for you if you do a little judicious web searching and are willing to part with a little cash for it, but SOMEBODY out here on XDA has to know how to do it for what you have.
And I'm NOT going to say somebody told you so, but they did. NEVER do this sort of thing without a backup in hand or a willingness to wave goodbye to whatever you have installed on or done to a device. I spend not more than 10 minutes a week doing a Nandroid of devices I use regularly. It has saved me a hell of a lot more time than that the very few times I've needed it. So, with apologies for rubbing salt in the wound, it is always better to have 'em and not need 'em than to need 'em and not have 'em
One thing is pretty certain. Most of us rarely repeat this sort of thing. Good Luck.

Advice/suggestions on best stable custom rom for new Moto G5 Cedric (XT1671)

Hi, I'm replacing a lost Moto G3 TE with a Moto G5 (xt1671 dual sim) that should be coming in the mail on Monday. I'd like to do whatever mods I want to my phone right away, before activating my google account on it and everything. So, I'd really like any advice any of you can give as to preferred custom rom with root that I should put on my new phone, so I can get to it right away. I've already found the thread to unlock it (same process as in past mostly), and I've found the guides for putting on TWRP (either 32-bit or 64-bit). So, now I just need to decide which custom ROM to use. Please advise!
I've also had a Moto G2 in the past. I've unlocked and used custom roms and root on all my phones so far, from Cyanogenmod 12.1 to AOSP Extended, ViperOS, and LineageOS. My wife's Moto G2 has Oreo on it (through AEX) and we're enjoying it (I had her add me as an account until I get my new phone). So, I'd like to continue using an Oreo system if possible, and I'd even prefer AEX, but it seems that it's discontinued for the Moto G5. Is that correct?
My overall goals for a custom rom are, in order of priority: reliability, speed/performance, battery life, and customization options. I found that AEX balanced all of that well on our past phones. Is the discontinued AEX for this phone reliable, or not? I've also seen the LineageOS thread and the KAOSP thread and have glanced at a few others. I use google accounts and half their apps for sure (so I'll want to install a GApps package with it). And I see there's a possibility to unlock RAW/DNG files for the camera, which I'd really like to try (as I prefer raw file editing instead of JPGs). And the customizations I like (if still possible) are mainly involving the way the launcher responds - I like having the navigation buttons hide, or to swipe up to get them back, I like being able to modify the status bar, etc.... typical customizations that were usually available in AEX that I've used. I also use root for file explorer and a few other functions - I used to always use SuperSU in the past, but just recently started using Magisk (on the Moto G2) and it seems good, though I'm open to any recommendation about which root to use.
So, please fire away! Please give your suggestion as to which currently available custom ROMs are stable, have good performance, good battery life, and offer standard customization, plus which I can root. I appreciate any suggestions and any advice you can give, especially regarding if there's a recommended rom but if it has known issues and any known workarounds. Also, I'd appreciate advice anytime today or tomorrow (since it'll likely be the afternoon or evening of Monday +3 GMT time - Madagascar - that I'm able to start working on unlocking it, installing custom recovery, etc.). But even if the advice is late, I might still be able to use it. I know this is a bit much to ask, but please give your own opinions freely!
Oh, by the way, do I need updated Motorola drivers, or will the motorola drivers and adb/fastboot I installed last time (for the Moto G3 TE) keep working with the new phone? The unlock thread I've found here doesn't say anything about motorola drivers or adb/fastboot. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the response! Is there a stock oreo available? And is stock rooted still customizable (like with AEX or something - can I install some sort of thing to let me customize it more?). And is there a debloated version of the stock rom available? I saw one thread on here about a debloated stock rom, but it looked like it was still nougat.
If it's possible to customize the stock rom further, please point me in the right direction. And if not possible to customize it further... then are you suggesting that any of the custom roms available aren't very stable to be used well for a daily driver?
Again, thanks for your response and also for any more feedback you can give!
So, I have my phone now and it came with stock Nougat. I've unlocked it, and I'm currently working on getting TWRP, Dm-verity thing on it, and then magisk. After that can I still update it to Oreo or not? Please advise. Thank you!

Crud, that sucks! I was already finished rooting and everything on magisk, then I let the OTA update download and when it restarted my phone, it just automatically sends it into recovery (TWRP) every time now! I tried to install this TWRP stock Oreo (dirtying flashing it) hoping it would fix the boot-loop-to-TWRP-recovery problem, but it didn't. So now I need to figure out a way to get back to the original, so I can start over and try again.
I'm trying to do a factory reset and try again, but in TRWP it says ""Failed to mount '/data' (Device or resource busy)'" This sucks! Any ideas where I can go or what I can do (such as some fastboot commands or something) to get it all working again?
EDIT: It does reboot to bootloader though, so it's not hardbricked. Just need to figure out what to do from here. Thanks for any help!
try to flash via fastboot only boot, recovery, oem and system from oreo, then aply update, then root
Thanks! I downloaded the firmware (for latest Nougat) from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5/development/stock-upgrade-to-official-stock-oreo-8-t3823598
Then I flashed everything they said through fastboot (ignoring the modem stuff) because I'm still downloading the oreo firmware right now anyway (my connection is quite slow). At first the bootloader got stuck and said "error" and I was freaking out thinking I'd hard-bricked it. But I turned it off and on again anyway and it loaded fine back into nougat for that latest version.
So now I'm downloading the latest stock Oreo and I'll probably try to ADB sideload it.
Which root do you recommend? I have the Magisk I did for nougat that worked great - 11.6 But there's this thread here (https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5/how-to/guide-how-to-root-stock-oreo-8-1-soak-t3832347) that talks about what seems like a complicated way of doing Magisk 15.3 and then getting it up to 16. What do you suggest?
magisk 17.1 its ok, but you have to flash only partition that i said, not full firmware, and DONT flash the bootloader and GPT partition
---------- Post added at 06:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:10 PM ----------
better let the phone to update ota for latest security patch, dont flash via fastboot
OK, I installed the stock oreo through ADB sideload (it wouldn't read my storage for some reason).... then I reinstalled TWRP, no problem... then installed Magisk 17.1 (per your suggestion) and then the apk for the manager. Everything's working great! Didn't even need that dm-verity thing.
I'm still looking into the mods I can do to it now that it's rooted (such as changing boot logo and boot animation, adding that 'camera 2' setting, etc.) So I'm not sure I'm at a finished product yet, but I'm definitely at a stable rooted oreo with all my regular stuff installed, so that's a good place to start! I've made a nandroid backup here in case any of my further experimenting messes it up.
Thanks again for your help! And if you can give any suggestions towards the best way to customize the look (for example - is nova launcher still the best way to do that?) or other aspects of the system UI, while still being on this stock rom, then please let me know. I'll look up how to get that better camera mode working.

Could you help me with this: if I backup my system (everything) with TWRP.... can I then switch to a custom rom to try it out (in case I want a different user interface, more tweaks, etc.) and if I don't like it can I easily switch back to the stock rom nandroid backup I have saved in TWRP (thus restoring my previous state, but without having to start from factory reset)? Or would it be difficult to switch back - like would I have to redo it through fastboot or something and factory reset, etc.?
I'm asking because in the past I never used the stock rom much and I definitely never switched between a custom rom and the stock rom. Once I went for custom rom, I didn't go back - so I don't know if it's as simple as restoring a nandroid backup or if it's much more effort. Please let me know. Thanks a lot!
you must be very carefully because most of the custom roms need twrp on 64 bits, now you have official twrp 32. When you come back from custom roms 64bit to previous nandroid backup, you must install 32 bits twrp, otherwise you may lose the imei of the phone, just read very well when you want to do something risky

OK, thanks a lot for that helpful info! So just to clarify to be sure: basically, if I want to switch back and forth, I'll install the 64-bit twrp first, then the custom rom(s). Then if I want to come back to my stock image backup, I re-install the 32-bit twrp (like the one I'm currently using) and then I can just restore my nandroid backup I took of the stock and all is well? And it's not risky if I do it like that?
yes, its correct that

Lineage 16.0 Boot Loop on OP3T after OTA

Hi people,
i am having trouble updating my device the last couple of days for which i would like to kindly ask your support.
I am using twrp 3.3.1.0 alongside with latest stable version of magisk and i should also mention that my device is encrypted with an unlocked bootloader.
Before flashing los 16 i had updated my device to OOS 9.0.4 (so i have the latest firmware available.)
So, i installed a nightly build of los 16 and the next day when an update became available I checked the los updater, downloaded the ota update and restarted my device to complete the update.
After the update was installed (which didn't generate any errors) my device rebooted but instead of launching android it suddenly rebooted in twrp mode.
I didn't manage to find a solution that could help me boot android so I decided to format, wipe and reinstall los and recover my apps.
The next day a new nightly build became available (20190709) which I installed and voila...boot loop again.
I installed los 16 in the past with no issues at all and decided to go back to oos as soon as OOS9.0.4 was released.
Now that i returned to los builds i have this issue which is not welcome at all
I decided to do some troubleshooting..... I have just installed the latest update with no issues at all but i kept my device unencrypted.
Obviously the root cause of this issue is applying an update while having the device encrypted. (a problem which i never had before)
So the question is, what am i doing wrong?

I have a poco f1 and i was having the same issues with the ota update of los16. My problem was the ANXcamera magisk module that was causing the bootloop. I disable the module before an ota update and after the update I enable it.

Newbie questions

I hope this is the right place to ask here.
I am new to lineageos and just installed lineageos 19.1 on an old Moto G7 to try it out. I have a few questions.
1. Can I install TWRP or do I need to stay with lineageos's own recovery?
2. I read you need to install gapps before starting lineageos. I did not. Can I still do so now?
Thanks.
Wanted to say yes to both but then I saw "LOS19", perhaps you ask again in this thread to be on the safe side:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/official-lineageos-19-1-for-the-moto-g7-g7-power.4436929/unread
I'm just trying out lineageos, so I'll install 18.1 over it.
I guess you're saying that with LOS18, I can install both TWRP and gapps.
Any special precautions?
Thanks.
I just noticed I lost root in the process. Is using magisk to reroot OK?
Yes, exactly. I had that in the beginning (with Asus X00TD) and I don't recall any bad side effects... except that at some point I got too lazy and too curious. TWRP has some nice things like backup where the LOS recovery has almost nothing.
According to
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...or-the-moto-g7-g7-power.4436929/post-86840041
it seems to work (despite dev advising to use LOS recovery).
