Hi, All -- I've got two Pixel 2 XLs: one on Android 8.0.0 and one on the final released version of Android 8.1.0. On the Android 8.1 phone, when using the camera app, the screen will freeze briefly when the phone is rotated (portrait/landscape). But this doesn't happen on the phone that's still back on 8.0. Are other people seeing this change with the Android 8.1 upgrade? Or might something else be causing this issue on my Android 8.1 Pixel 2 XL? Thanks!
Just tried this out and yes I'm getting the same on 8.1
I've just did what you say and no, it doesn't happen at all on my Pixel 2 XL upgraded to Oreo 8.1.
Did you try factory reset?
interesting! Yeah, a factory reset seems to have fixed this issue on my Android 8.1 device. Fingers crossed that this'll stay smooth.
OK, I think I sorted this out. It's Meteor Swipe that causes the problem. It must be something related to its screen overlay function that, on the Pixel 2 XL running Android 8.1 (though not 8.0), causes the camera to stutter when the screen is rotated. The issue goes away when I add the camera app to Meteor Swipe's blacklist. I wonder if other apps that require accessibility access might cause this problem in the camera app.
Not seeing this behavior between my two 2XLs. Was in beta program with the first. Can't seem to get the second one to update to 8.1.

I have used android O developer preview and downgraded to android 7.1.2 nut now motion sensor is not working.
How to fix the problem
My Nexus 5x was on the DP2 for almost 2 weeks (very satisfied with it), but after updating some apps on Saturday evening i was in a bootloop. Remedied, after updating again my 50+ apps (including Google apps) again bootloop. So i opted out of beta, and am back on 7.12. All radio fine, but sensors not working. I did a factory reset and everything is working fine.
factory reset fixes
Hi this exact situation happened to me only a day earlier. So happy to find this forum post. The factory reset fixed the issue for me too.
Dang, I was hoping there to be another solution then FSR.
Check to see if your Voicemail apps have anything to do with it. I had this problem and fixed it by disabling my voicemail app from shutting the screen when motion sensor is applicable.
A few days ago, I found my phone can not indicate the direction, such as google maps, some compass apps. The direction arrows are turning counterclockwise.
And I can not use the Panorama and Photo Sphere in the camera to take pictures, the positioning dots are moving to the right.
I suspect that a sensor does not work, but I use the test application and found that the sensor is running normally. My pixel xl is Android8.0, I went back 7.1.2, well the problem was still there. Now I update it to 8.0. (my phone model is 2100, unlocked bootloader, already root)
I don't know how and when this problem happened, hardwares are all working. Maybe it is a bug? Can someone solve this problem?
Have you tried to recalibrate it by moving your phone in a figure 8 pattern?
I tried it, but it did not work
I tried it, but it did not work. Hardwares are no problem, replacement system is also useless. Maybe the reason is I unlocked the bootloader?

My compass works fine and I've been unlocked for some time now (Verizon phone). I have never been on a 8.0/8+ build currently running 7.1.2. Custom rom. Recently,I've seen several reports of users having unrecoverable issues after switching to the delicious cookie builds aka O.
Since the last few AA updates have made Unlocking the phone easier for passengers, and drivers, I have noticed that my phone is damned near unusable in this state. This lagfest lasts for ~30-60 seconds after disconnecting the phone cable as well. Everything is fine in terms of Nav or Google Play Music streaming on the head unit, but trying to swipe notifications or scroll through Facebook/Twitter/Instagram is a hard no go. Anyone else experiencing this?
I have a stock, unrooted Pixel 2 XL running Android 8.1 and the March patch level. Android Auto v3.1 connected to a 2018 Acura TLX with the Technology Package.
Lag un phone with android auto
Same problem here. I have also a 2xl. I don't know if the problems is just with phone or any other android device

haven't encountered any such issues with my Pixel 2 XL on AA.. I am on March update
I am facing random freezing and reeboting issue with my pixel 6. It happens more than 7/8 times a day. Very annoying and Google is not responding to this issue. There are many similar complains like this in Google forum and there is no proper reply from Google. December update didn't fix the issue. Is it hardware issue or software? Help please.
Tried a factory reset? Are you rooted? Are you able to unlock the bootloader? If so, try flashing the full firmware image or Official Google Android Flash Tool.
If none of that helps, I'd exchange it with Google for a new replacement. Good luck!

My one freezes randomly and not specifically for any reason or for any apps.
Do you have the december update installed? Try to disable all your Accessibility Services from the settings.
[Update: A fix is coming] Google Pixel 6 owners are facing an annoying screen freezing issue
If you own a Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro and are affected by the screen freezing bug, there’s a temporary workaround to resolve the issue.

Random rebooting seems to be a "common" Pixel 6 problem. Most were only able to fix it by getting a new device from Google, some were able to fix it with a factory reset.
Strangely enough, I had the same problems on my first Pixel 6 - then I got a replacement model, got the backup from my old phone (p4 xl) going (again) and never had any reboot problems. Then a couple days ago I rooted my Pixel 3 and transfered my files over from my main Pixel 6 Pro and got the same reboot problem on my Pixel 3 now (~about every 10 minutes of active usage). I found out that it's probably connected to the fingerprint scanner, since about every third time that I use the FP on my P3, the phone reboots. I'll probably try a factory reset on my P3, since I know that the phone worked without issue before. It was probably an unwise idea to get a backup from my P6 going, but then again, F*** Google for not giving us a decent file transfer system. If the only way to get a functioning product is to get a replacement or start with a clean slate, that's a joke in 2021.
That tells me that it's a software issue, but since it's hard to pinpoint/replicate and at least with some P6 Pro users even a factory reset was not able to help, you might have to get a replacement model.

Even vibration?
I wondered that as well. I also turn off animations. The phone switches screens faster and the fingerprint scanner works better sans animations.
May be a coincidence but.....
I have never had this problem until today.
I usually have animations off. Set them to 0.5 today and my phone froze twice.
I've turned animations off again.
(I also have accessibility services off and have not changed that)
