Question about Custom ROM - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

I think I know the answer to this already but I'll ask anyway. If I flashed a custom ROM. Would it be possible at all to then go back to complete stock at some point and continue to get OTA updates once back?

Yes it is possible

And you'll continue to get OTA updates again? I love this phone more each day

You have a stock phone. Even if you flash an old rom, after a reboot you will get a ota.

To, my personal knowledge... yeah you can root your device and still RECEIVE OTA's to your device, however when you need to install them... you'll need to flash the stock recovery so that it installs, then you can just go ahead and flash the custom recovery back that's what i'd do anyway.
Ok, I wound this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644167 just now. Will this do the thing without screwing up the stock recovery?
Historically it's always been the advice to NOT use OTA updates when rooted as they do more harm than good. If you're going custom I'd stick with that

This is new to me, i can't comment on it but from what i've read, yeah it seems to push the files to the device without the need of a custom recovery, personally i prefer the custom recovery way because you can carry on many different tasks which stock recovery can't
That link doesn't work, it's for the AT&T model (One XL)

Return stock with ota easiest way/fastest?

I have rooted my m8 but just in the case I want to return to stock focusing more on getting ota updates whats the easiest most fastest way to do this and would I have to uninstall custom recovery, root, and everything else back to original stock just to get ota updates sorry for the rookie question here?

A quick look in general would have found this on the front page

My recommendation would be "don't bother". Whatever rolls out on OTA tends to be posted as a flashable stock rooted ROM, or custom ROM within days of the OTA, if not sooner. Going back to stock is a steps backwards, and usually an unnecessary one.

Either is fine. Most will use what they are most familiar with. I use TWRP, only because it was what I was used to on my old One X (EVITA).

Boot into recovery. If you see a black screen with a red triangle or green circle, that is stock recovery. If you see TWRP/CWM you are obviously still on custom recovery.
But in case that the system is not stock, lets assume some system file was missing, won't doing a factory reset resolve the problem since the factory reset is being done from the stock recovery!

Why can't I find any custom rom?

Why can't I find any custos rom for the Zenwatch?
Is there not even 1 custom rom available?
If not , why not?
The watch is on the market for some time now, one would expect that there would be at least some roms available.
Tell me , is there any benefits of running a custom ROM on a watch ?

Yes! Battery life , performance,...
One problem is that we don't even have a stock one. I (foolishly) didn't make a copy of the system partition before I rooted mine, and I haven't been able to get anyone else to do it so far. There is a version of TWRP, a version of SuperSU, and a kernel available for this watch. But once you mess with it, we have no stock version to go back to for OTA updates.

I see,
so it would be a bad idea to install a custom kernel?
I would not be able to go back to stock and receive updates?

Great News friend, let's wait haha!
Hey. I've already flashed twrp and root on my e7, and I downloaded the stock 5.1 and now it's normal again, but I can't download OTA upgrades, so is there any way to be able to download ota upgrades again? Or I can download the future 6.0 stock and just flash it in odin? Please reply.

Brother for OTA Upgrade you must have
your device all official software, if you root
or flash twrp your device goes to custom
So you can't get any further OTA update/upgrade
Other thing, your device software must have
of your country to get updates.
So if you want OTA updates
1. download own country stock rom from www.samfirmware.com
2. Flash rom with odin
3. Don't flash other unofficial softwares
4. Check OTA updates you must get
5. Done
I've already done it once, and didn't work, maybe it's because my binary is "custom"
I need to restart it, like with no modifications, but the binary I don't know how to restart.
Can you help me? Or I need to flash stock again?
And another question, if nothing works, I can just download the future 6.0 stock and flash with odin? Or it means problems?

First, if your device have custom binary
You need to hard reset your device by
1. Power off device
2. Go to recovery mode by Pressing power+volume up+home buttons at once
3. Clear partition cache
4. Format factory data
5. Restart
6. done
If still there custom binary appear then reflash
Official rom.
Second, you can download android 6.0
and flash anytime there is no problems
Thank you so much

Friend after root you couldn't get OTA update but
Don't worry you can upgrade your device from
www.samfirmware.com
Can you tell me, from which method you rooted your device?
I used the odin tool to root, but is it possible to update my phone using smart switch? Because downloading firmware and all seems too complicated
