Wondering if this was possible with anything besides your videos or youtube.
I thought this feature would come in handy with the HULU app.
YES there is. if you aren't rooted already do it (because an accelerated kernel makes it faster and root is just plane sexy) and download HDMwIn from the market.
I am rooted, thanks for the info. I am downloading it now.

I really liked HDMwIn. Took some getting fiddling to figure it all out with the settings and the screen rotation and all - but once you do, it does a good job. Kick up the resolution in it - and go nuts playing Angry Birds on your big screen.

I use Sega and SNES emulators to play my old favorite games on my big screen t.v.
Never thought I'd see a Final Fantasy game on the big screen, too bad the sound still sucks (on the emulator, not the app).
I used my iphone to play movies in my truck through the DVD aux in using a iphone to RCA cord. Any simple way to do the same thing with the EVO? I know HDMI is digital. That's about the only thing I'll miss about the stinking Iphone. Any ideas would be helpful..
You just need the HDMwIn app and a cable. The MicroHDMI port of the EVO will also push sound. You'd probably have to look around and see what kind of converters are available for taking your HDMI into something else. Something like this, I suppose?

Read the reviews. That will not work. Think about it. HDMI is digital, and RCA is analog. It's like trying to plug a pair of headphones into a TOSLINK fiber port.
Sadly, digital to analog converters can range in price depending on how and what's done. I know that high-end HDMI to analog converts can cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars. For example, this one here is $300. And it doesn't even have any reviews, meaning nobody's really bought it yet.
Honestly, downscaling HDMI to composite is like trying to play Crysis 2 multiplayer on an Apple II over a 19kbps dialup line.
That cable must just take the hd to the vga.
Sent from your EVO 4G. Thanks for sharing your data plan!

Yea, I kind of figured so. Just hoping there was some option out there. I guess the simplest way would be get a mobile dvd player with a front hdmi in. haven't seen
one though.
Cant find it
Hey guys i cant find this in market, i even tried amazon app store. not there either, where could i go to get this app?
never mind

Go to the market and type...HDMI, that should bring it up. FYI, people are having issues with it right now though, for somereason the app has stopped working properly.
Sorry, posted this before I saw that people had already responded...

I got the Cable Matters MHL to HDMI adapter (no links- under 8 posts) from Amazon. Perfectly inexpensive, quality is alright. I use my existing adapter heavily; multiple emulators, Sixaxis Control Utility, and along with a keyboard and mouse I use it like a second desktop. However, sometimes video output ceases for a few seconds, giving a black screen on whatever you're outputting to. The video output on the phone is unaffected. Apparently this is a common issue for this adapter. While it's not deal breaking (it still works fine and only cuts out for two to three seconds every five to twenty minutes), I want to know if the official adapter has this issue as well. While it's twice as expensive, I may put down the money sometime down the road to replace the one I've got.
What do you have, how well does it work?

In my experience the cutting is interference from the phones antenna , tried it in airplane mode? WiFi doesnt interfere.

Have not tried airplane mode. Mostly, this is because I often use it as a desktop computer. Actually does the job fairly well. 19" flatscreen TV, BT keyboard and mouse, web browsing becomes a much more pleasant experience.
Mozilla needs to get off their asses and add an option to change the text size though. Dolphin works great but doesn't agree with some sites.
Indeed, that type of use shows the awesomeness of this device, i sometimes use Ubuntu, there's a nice package posted somewhere here, Firefox, GIMP etc on a cellphone is amazing. But enough of that ot, if airplane mode doesn't give you those cuts then when reconnected to cells try to position the cable in a way that it wont catch so much interference, i connect it to a 27" tv/monitor/tuner/almost coffee maker combo, and depending on positioning i can catch the moment when i'm going to loose signal by the tv's speakers catching the interference. Maybe you can find a position where it wont cut, i was able to position it in a safe way, so i believe it might be the lack of any screening at the chip on the cheap design.
one quick question i bought the mhl adapter from dealextreme a while ago but i´ve never really used till now since i bought a ps3 controller, my question regards image quality.
I am aware that the mhl adapter that i bought it isn´t the official but many people rated it high quality, when i play for example an emulator or riptige gp the image quality looks a lot better on the phone than it does on a tv or pc monitor, i´ve tested both, i don´t know if its just because the screen is smaller the image looks sharper but for example playing mario 64 on a big screen the image looks a bit squared/pixelated.
I even installed a pc emulator to compare (looks better), forced anti aliasing with chainfire and still looks pixelated.
The info that appears on my monitor is that the image is working at 1080i 1920*1080.
Is this normal ?
I have the official Samsung MHL adapter. It works great, the only issue is the display is a little bit trimmed off from the top and bottom. I have checked it on multiple TVs so I don't think TV settings are the issue.
mousiope, i know what you mean, it may be disorienting a bit, this is how it works.
The cable output is HD, but its only cloning the phones screen resolution when not playing high res videos, thats what produces the low resolution view on the monitor, so yes, it is because on the small screen it looks sharper. I noticed that on the emulators this is even more visible than on other uses, maybe the emulator itself is generating lower res than phones screen? never really looked at it. Try to change the LCD Density, its not quite the same than higher resolution but helps a little (mind tho that touchwiz doesnt scle properly with changes in lcd density, meaning it gets a little messy, small font, 4 icons per row always etc).
flippity, i never noticed trimming on my MHL output. Will check it tho.

My original adapter has cuts followed by a horrible noise. It was a lot worse when i used the charger that comes with the phone, probably the electrical distribution in my block sucks. Powering the adapter with USB power from my notebook almost solved the problem.
But it's quite pointless powering the cellphone with a computer instead of just using the computer's HDMI... In fact the MHL support sucks IMO, the only true 1080i/p is the video player, not even the photo viewer supports it! The other manufacturers like HTC, LG, Motorola and even NVidia had the descence of releasing an API enabling this functionality since it's not supported by Android itself.
Now that Bloodrainer mentioned, I never used the MHL in airplane mode... interesting...
Well, i get nasty noise in audio output when connected to a cheap car charger, so yea, i'd vote for your houses electric wiring, sadly i dont know much about electrics my vote would be to try a grounded plug with a surge protector?

does cm9 support mhl or the ics leaked sammy rom!? will the api support be available with ics?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
No clue about api support, none of the AOSP based roms suport MHL, as it requires much of the samsungs frame and stuff, so sadly cm, miui, etc dont support MHL, not tried the leaked ICS yet, but i belive it should support MHL as its samsung's release.

I picked up the Rockfish adapter from Best Buy after they dropped the price to $29. It works well and was easy to set up with the Shield, but I'm noticing there's a bit of lag between what shows up on the Shield screen versus the TV screen. For example, pull down the notification window, and you see it happen on the TV slightly after you do on the Shield. The beta switch to improve Miracast for gaming seemed to help a little bit, but the delay is still visible.
Are there any particular adapters that work better? I realize the Rockfish/Best Buy brand isn't exactly known for high performance, but I can see how it would be great for easy media consumption.
Ultimately, I'd like to play games like NOVA 3 on the big screen without a goofy 15' HDMI cable running to my Shield. I love portable gaming, but I'm getting old enough to where tiny screens don't cut the mustard for my eyes the way they used to.
I also wonder which brand miracast adapter that can play the games without any lag but so far i know is all the miracast adapter giving little lag when playing games.
Seems silly but it works,
the best way to have a wireless experience (sort of) with a TV and a Shield is with an Xbox 360 controler.
Get a OTG usb adapter and conect to it the wireless receiver for a xbox 360 and a the controller will work. So now you can have your shield with hdmi cable to the tv and you in your sofa with a xbox wireless controller.

Yeah, it was only on sale for a few days. The price has gone back up since then.
I think some games do better than others. I originally tried NOVA 3 then some emulators, and it was a terrible experience. I tried Bard's Tale from the Android Market just for kicks, and it was actually very good.
Your mileage may vary.
Been using this http://www.actiontec.com/products/63.php for the past few days. Works great, surfing the web, videos, 1 to 1, Shadowgun : deadzone , and gaming in general are all fantastic. There is a minimal lag when playing online death match, I'm talking a hairline of a millisecond. Overall definitely worth the $69. price!

While I love the thought of being able to wirelessly display my shield's content on my 60" screen, all this talk about lag is going to keep me on the side lines for a while. I currently have a 10ft. HDMI calble connect to the Mini HDMI cable plugged into the shield. It works great, zero lag and very little pixelation during game play. I do not think you are going to get a better response while playing games than this setup. I have little to no patience for lag duing gameplay. I would love to be able to go cable free, but it seems everyone is experiencing some sort of lag with their miracast connection.
I think I will wait for the wife to start screaming at me about the cable running across the living room floor, before I break down and buy a miracast adapter for my TV.
Das, go to a tiger direct and buy it.. Can always return it. Or buy online. Trust me, I am VERY picky as well. I have a lot of toys and have this mirrored to a Samsung d8000 55" its flawless. The wire is tacky and holding the shield with that little bit of cord weight is a pain. Get it, then gimme a thumbs up!
And BTW:: Shadowgun : Deadzone I am always top 3 even when mirroring.

I bought the screanbeam pro over the weekend, and I am not a big fan of it. I noticed about a half second lag while doing anything. You also can't stream your pc games using miracast as it uses the wifi signal so you can only stream android games to the tv wirelessly which is a bummer for me. I play more pc games on my shield than android games right now so I really have no use for it.

Has anyone found a way to hook up their tablet to their TV with full display? I bought an hdmi adapter but it has a black bar on each side not covering the whole TV display. My note 10.1 2013 version didn't have this problem.
I have the same issue and haven't found a solution so far. What makes it worse, it defaults to a 1080i 24hz signal which is very noticeably laggy especially when gaming. And the colors are bad. Makes no sense, the note 10.1 should have 0 issue pushing 1080p/60hz when it does usually alot more than that.
what we need is hdmi options. I also want to be able to turn off the screen of my tablet when it's outputting to the TV.
Exactly!!! I even bought an hdmi cable that plugs into power and it's not charging the tablet at all. I also would love if you could shut the tablet off while doing so. Do you think the samsumg all cast wirele hub is the answer? For now anyway? Correct me if im wrong but doesnt it fix all problems were discussing except the "covering the whole screen" part? Well and slight lag... man this sucks... how is this tablet not as supported as the 1st generation one? Lame...

I did some testing today and it really grinds my gears... I have a 3rd party adapter 5 in 1 (hdmi, usb, sd card, micro sd, micro usb) standard 5 pin mhl and an adapter for 11 pin mhl.
-my wife's galaxy s2 works perfectly with the 5 pin. Outputs full 1080p / 60hz smooth and responsive.
-My sgs3 doesn't work at all with the adapter (4.3 stock), it starts charging but there is no image on the screen.
-my note 10.1 2014 works but it outputs 1080p / 24hz and it has a really bad delay that makes it impossible to play games, and of course 24 fps is laggy as ****. And of course it has black boarders on the side.
I can't believe that there isn't a settings menu for hdmi. Even my old transformer tf201 had one. And you get the best experience with the 4 year old sgs2(running 4.2). Unbelievable.

The TV's got a black frame so it's hard to see. I'd say the picture being mirrored is 100% with some small bars on the sides that are necessary to adjust 16:10 to 16:9. I've noticed nothing distorted in any of the apps/content I've viewed.
PS3
Here's another question, I just hooked my tablet up to my ps3 via bluetooth and it will allow me to share video, pic's, and music. But I have some videos downloaded and put them in that folder where the ps3 is looking for them. I rebooted and the ps3 still does not see the video. its an mp4 so Im not sure if I need to convert it to a different format or what. Anyone have any insight on that? Im still new to the ps3 as I just got it a few months back.
I'm not prepared to pay for another 70-80$ device (that's what allshare costs where i live) to get a good image... This tablet is a highly advanced device and i expect hdmi out to work. As I said it works very well on the 4 year old sgs2 why would it work worse on a 2014 device?

The TV's got a black frame so it's hard to see. I'd say the picture being mirrored is 100% with some small bars on the sides that are necessary to adjust 16:10 to 16:9. I've noticed nothing distorted in any of the apps/content I've viewed.

So, can I mirror onto my 60inch vizio with the all share wireless hub?

I agree that's a lot more money for something other cheaper devices already do. You go on a still keep your tablet?
Make sure to watch the sunset at least once a day

Here's another question, I just hooked my tablet up to my ps3 via bluetooth and it will allow me to share video, pic's, and music. But I have some videos downloaded and put them in that folder where the ps3 is looking for them. EDIT: Never mind. I got it all to work. So I guess thats my work around for now. Im just going to use my ps3 to view the videos I want. Not the ideal solution but it beats spending more money! Hopefully something gets figured out in the mean time. I shouldn't have to rely on a ps3 for this type of thing on such an awesome device.
Hey guys,
Just wondering if there is a way to use my Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 as a screen for my Xbox One? My wife and I are in a one bedroom apartment for the next year and while we have a small TV in the bedroom, I feel guilty hogging the big one all the time. It's been hard to find information on the subject due to most people wanting to go the other way: Tablet -> Xbox.
From what I have been able to gather, I would need some sort of realtime capture card (have a laptop with USB 3.0) which I would run the Xbox to, and then use Splashtop (maybe something better?) to get the stream on my tablet. Has anyone tried something similar with this tablet? I'm seeing some devices have a second or two of lag while others have almost no lag. Seems like this tablet should be able to handle it.
Seems like it would be nice to cut out the middle man with a wireless HDMI stream right to the tablet but that seems to be a pipe dream...
bump for today
interesting to know how this can be done !!
you might want to search on youtube . using nexus as backup camera screen
that might work
lag would be horrible like you said.
easiest solution would be to get a cheap, small computer monitor for your xbox.
