It works well and was easy to set up with the Shield, but I'm noticing there's a bit of lag between what shows up on the Shield screen versus the TV screen. The beta switch to improve Miracast for gaming seemed to help a little bit, but the delay is still visible.

Ultimately, I'd like to play games like NOVA 3 on the big screen without a goofy 15' HDMI cable running to my Shield. I love portable gaming, but I'm getting old enough to where tiny screens don't cut the mustard for my eyes the way they used to.
I also wonder which brand miracast adapter that can play the games without any lag but so far i know is all the miracast adapter giving little lag when playing games.

the best way to have a wireless experience (sort of) with a TV and a Shield is with an Xbox 360 controler.
Get a OTG usb adapter and conect to it the wireless receiver for a xbox 360 and a the controller will work. So now you can have your shield with hdmi cable to the tv and you in your sofa with a xbox wireless controller.

Not all apps 100% support the wireless version of the xbox controller though even if they support wired controllers (actually a driver issue)

Yeah, it was only on sale for a few days. The price has gone back up since then.
I think some games do better than others. I originally tried NOVA 3 then some emulators, and it was a terrible experience. I tried Bard's Tale from the Android Market just for kicks, and it was actually very good.
Your mileage may vary.

While I love the thought of being able to wirelessly display my shield's content on my 60" screen, all this talk about lag is going to keep me on the side lines for a while. I currently have a 10ft. HDMI calble connect to the Mini HDMI cable plugged into the shield. It works great, zero lag and very little pixelation during game play. I do not think you are going to get a better response while playing games than this setup. I have little to no patience for lag duing gameplay. I would love to be able to go cable free, but it seems everyone is experiencing some sort of lag with their miracast connection.
I think I will wait for the wife to start screaming at me about the cable running across the living room floor, before I break down and buy a miracast adapter for my TV.
Das, go to a tiger direct and buy it.. Can always return it. Or buy online. Trust me, I am VERY picky as well. I have a lot of toys and have this mirrored to a Samsung d8000 55" its flawless. The wire is tacky and holding the shield with that little bit of cord weight is a pain. Get it, then gimme a thumbs up!
And BTW:: Shadowgun : Deadzone I am always top 3 even when mirroring.

Yah, it always takes a lot of "CONVINCING" for me to continue to dump $$$'s at my toys. Let me know how u like it... The freedom from the dongle hdmi cable, is bliss!

Since the screenbeam pro is optimize for shield and i might getting it one later to play games on my big tv. The price for screenbeam pro can consider cheap also.

I bought the screanbeam pro over the weekend, and I am not a big fan of it. I noticed about a half second lag while doing anything. You also can't stream your pc games using miracast as it uses the wifi signal so you can only stream android games to the tv wirelessly which is a bummer for me. I play more pc games on my shield than android games right now so I really have no use for it.

So you mean that using the screenbeam pro even playing the android games also have half second lag right but i though it is optimize for the shield and the lag is very less and you will not notice it?

I love the idea of android devices as a portable gaming console. They now have all the power of last gen consoles at least, the batteries last forever, tons of ports (usb, HDMI, BT), great built in screens and they're super portable. I started out just messing around on my Incredible, later had a GTab (which was a really early device that worked ok but had a bad screen) and now have a Xoom running ICS and have a Galaxy Nexus on the way.
Native android gaming is coming along nicely now to the point where I have about 50 games on my tab. Many of them are free or were daily deals on the Amazon store. Many of them I bought full price. All in all I've probably spent $50 on games. Some of them aren't so great, others are suprisingly good and the situation gets better every day.
I also enjoy a bit of emulation. Before you get all upity the only games I have been playing are ones I actually have the cartridge for. Mostly I have just been playing through Chrono Trigger (which I own so **** you!) along with the Giant Bomb endurance run.
Recently Onlive was also released for android and it is pretty impressive how well games play with even average internet connections. If you haven't tried this out you should. It's free and you can trial all games or up to one hour which is a service with value alone.
All 3 of these gaming experiences can benefit from one thing.
A CONTROLLER!
I have previously used a Wiimote and classic controller with an IME app which works well enough but having the Wiimote hanging off the controller as nothing but a bluetooth dongle is annoying and kinda kills the whole point of having a wireless controller in the first place. Datel apparently made a classic controller with the transmitter and battery built in for a while but I wasn't able to find any for purchase anywhere.
Next a few months back app started to hit the market that let you use the Dualshock 3 with Android devices. This is a pretty good solution. The DS3 is a great controller and the setup is reasonably painless. You just have to connect the controller to a desktop and run an app there to bind the controller to your android device. After that you run an app on the device each time you want to use the controller. You'll also have to configure the controls within some games for the controller layout. Not too bad but if you use the controller for your ps3 as well you'll have to plug it into the PS3 to reset it then connect it to your PC to get t back on the droid device. Now I use the PS3 with BT for my desktop using MotionJoy's software and switching between it and the droid is even more of a hassle which I won't go into because I haven't even figured out a reasonably quick method. Since both devices are using the controller via a weird workaround this isn't really surprising.
So today I went looking again and found 2 new options. A while back Gamestop announced they would be carrying 'Gaming Tablets' and as part of it they were going to be selling a wireless gamepad. Well apparently they have started getting them and I found one in stock on my commute home. First impressions were that the device feels cheap. At the $40 I paid it's already a bit overpriced but that according to the website is a discount from the original price of $99 which would be highway robbery. Though the button layout is essentially the same as a PS3 controller the device doesn't feel anything like a DS3 or a 360 controller. It's much lighter. The plastic is cheap and I'm sure with use, will begin to creek. It just feels like cheap Chinese construction. I'm not sure but I think the device is all digital, in fact I think all they did was essentially wrap a gamepad around a bluetooth keyboard. The triggers are digital for sure but the 2 sticks might be analog though I don't think so. They do feel decent with a good resistance on the springs. The D-pad is less exciting and feel mushy. The other buttons are serviceable, nothing particularly good or bad about them. They are two shoulder buttons on each side with 2 of them shaped like triggers and then the four normal face buttons (labelled 1-4 instead of the square, triangle etc as in the product page image). There are also four other buttons on the face which are the power button, the pair button, escape and enter. The power button is obvious but it should be noted the device powers on and off in a second or 2. The pair button is likewise pretty normal. The escape and enter buttons seem to be like the back button and action respectively in android which is kind of nice. It lets you use the controller as a general purpose remote for your tab. This is particularly nice if you want to use it for media on a TV with HDMI. What this means is that you don't really have a start and select button on the face. The left stick seems to be mapped to standard keyboard arrow keys while the right stick and the D-pad are mapped to letters or numbers. The device has a rechargeable cell which is nice and this is charged from a standard USB port. I'm not sure yet about battery life but it seemed to get a full charge after about half hour.
Considering the lack of other dedicated options for tablets this device isn't all bad. It does what it should. It requires no apps or setup other than pairing up to your device which takes seconds. It also powers on and off in seconds and each reconnection is near instant. Also it should be noted that this should work with any BT enabled android device. I don't think there are any version restrictions.
I have tested it with a snes emulator which it works perfectly with. I also tried GTA3 for Android, in which I was able to run around, grab a car and drive by default. I could probably get it working well enough if I took some time to config the controls in game.
All in all this device is a bit of a tough sell at $40 especially if you have a PS3 controller already and don't mind the relatively minor hassles that entails. If you can find one for $20 or even $30 its would be much more reasonable.
I was thinking the device might be mod-able due to it being so light. I have seen some people get things like the MSI BT controller fit into a snes controller frame. Unlike those devices though this is essentially one large PCB with the button contacts right on it except for the shoulder buttons and analog sticks. This would limit options. Maybe someone will find some good options but that will only increase the cost of course.

The second option I found today is much sexier but a little pricier. It is the Onlive Universal Wireless Controller which I have high hopes for. Everything I have read about it seems to indicate the level of material quality is much higher. Also it requires Honeycomb or ICS which means it isn't just a BT keyboard. Full Onlive support is obvious and again according to my reading it comes with a BT dongle for use with the PC but I'm hoping it will work with my standard dongle for simplicity. The device even comes with a rechargeable pack and a AA cartridge just like the 360 controllers which is a nice feature. When connected to a PC you can use up to 4 of them with one dongle which is nice. Perhaps the tablet will be able to support multiple controllers as well but I haven't read anything about that yet, There are also a number of media buttons on the controller which could prove convenient. I'm hoping this will let me replace both the Gamestop controller for my tab and my DS3 for my PC while being able to switch easily between them.

I have seen that device. It just seemed like with only directional and one (maybe 2) buttons the device doesn't really support much. I'll have to look into it more. Maybe if I can find one cheap I'll grab it and take a look.
PS My Onlive controller should arrive tomorrow so I'll get something written up on it likely by the end of the week.

$50 is a bit steep but for me anyway I'll probably be able to sell off my PS3 controller which I just use for my PC now and use the onlive controller. If I get $40 for the PS3 it turns out to be pretty much a wash. I know that's probably not the case for most but it may help some. Anyway we'll see how good it is soon

I have a PS3 and 2 controllers but the kids use them (nearly) every day so I really can't use one of those and switch it around all the time.
Also I don't believe the PS3 controller can be paired with 2 different Android devices at the same time. Eh, I don't mean real-time concurrency, I mean I don't think I can have it set up on both my Bionic and Xoom and switch between them without having to set it all up again on the PC. If I'm wrong about that please correct me! If the OnLive controller can do that I'll be sold!

I agree that $50 for just any old regular controller is robbery. LOL. I refuse to buy brand new xbox controllers for that reason. But one controller that can be used on multiple platforms.. meh.. i can mentally justify that.. though I'd rather not ya know? LOL.

I completely forgot about the onlive controller. I got a promotional email a few days ago from onlive where if you pre purchased their new soccer game 39.99 full play pass, they were actually giving away the entire gaming system for free. I just checked offer expired today. That really sucks, I was so.busy last week I only glanced at the offer. Basically for 40$ you'd get the game which came out today and the wireless controller setup along with their consule box to hook up to any TV. Which costs 99.99 alone, I should of jumped at the offer instead of waiting. Let me know how it work, so I can kick myself for now I'll have to pay 50 just for the controller

I used a Wiimote with Gensoid today using the Wiimote Controller app from the marketplace, didn't realise it was so easy - worked straight off with only minor hassle of having to switch between Wiimote and Keyboard input manually. Great for those old 3 and 2 button controller games!

I downloaded it and tried it out based on your post, works great with nesoid! I had a few setup and mapping issues but once I got those sorted everything is working fantastic.
Dual Shock all the way
I am also impressed with the gaming capability of the Xoom and I have been enjoying playing Modern Combat 3. Using a decent controller makes all the difference and my controller of choice is the Dual Shock controller from my PS3.
It is true that it cannot be paired with two devices at once, which is a bit annoying, but it works really well. I cannot I imagine why anyone would pay $50 for a controller that is not as good. Just buy a Dual Shock controller and the SixAxis application and you're all set.

Is it possible to attach a BT trackball/keyboard without a dongle, or somehow use an other adapter I can attach (possible by a double adapter)
Once connected to my TV the only way to change any input is via the Note.

If its a BT track ball I would think it will hook up just fine, same way a BT mouse would.

Thanks, not rooted, do not want to go in that direction, so am I correct in assuming you can only connect bt directly to tablet when you root it, otherwise I need a dongle??

Well, keep in mind the ASCD won't mess with the resolution or color depth of the image displayed on the LCD, so if you see video quality issues (bad scaling or graininess or such) it's likely due to what your TV does with the not-quite 720P resolution of the signal from the Note 10.1 (1280x720 isn't a native resolution of most monitors and likely scales it to 1366x768), so I'm betting that the picture via the HDMI hard-wired cable will look the same (on static images) as did the picture from the ASCD.

I'm shopping around for an HDTV Adapter for my GT-N8010 at the moment, and I've noticed that several online shops are advertising a new 2013 model - EPL-NPHPBKG.

They claim that it is the next verson of EPL-3PHPBEG (the model that this thread is about). Does anyone know what the difference is? I've seen reports on other threads about their tablet not charging while plugged in to the HDTV adapter. Can you confirm if this functionality exists on your EPL-3PHP?

I dont know the id of my hdtv adapter but as far as i own it since the early days of my previous tab 10.1 (p7500) I am pretty sure it's the "old" one.
I can confirm the adapter is definetly charging my n8000 while connected to my tv behind the docking station (universal samsung), streaming .mkv from my ubuntu desktop / server machine and being controlley by emulated mouse with my ps3 gamepad (via sixaxxis).
Sure you won't win a speed challange with that configuration but the main point is it is charging. I guess about ~ 2..3 % / 0,5..1,0 h (never did a measurement ) but still charging. Thats pretty nice because sometimes when I come home from university and the battery is nearly empty (sometimes 2 days of usage with a single charge) I plug my note into the docking station, let it charge to 3 or 4 %, turn it on and start streaming. When I end the day and shut down the tv the note is at about ~10% and ready to get charged the whole night.

After installing the app I noticed that you can emulate a mouse. That is very useful to me for streaming movies from my server, look something up on imdb and so on with the hdmi adapter...

Update, just purchased apple Magic Trackpad looks like it works on my Tablet, No Dongle just Pin number input for connecting, so in theory I will be able to use it to control Note 10.1 whilst connected via HDMI adapter to TV, will confirm when it arrives this week.
Just received my EPL-3PHPBEG from Expansys. It was not the most expensive, but dirt cheap either. It works. It says it is for the Tab 10. The price on this seems to vary wildly with the cheaper ones (19-25$) all seeming to be out of stock, except today went back to Amazon and the Zeeestmm version now seems to be in stock and going for 29.00$
It works for my purpose - Powerpoint and other document projection. It does need to be powered, and the tab needs to be rebooted at least for the projector to recognize it. So it's working fine on my Tab Note 10.1.
What chaps me about Samsung, it the myriad of numbers and letters, all a bit different, but all seeming to be the same item. I thought it was bad with the phones and tabs, but it is beyond annoying with accessories.

Thanks for the reminder. Probably the image will look not better than before. However, it was not a difficult decision why i sent the Allshare Cast Hub back to amazon. For 60€ it's just to much for what it would have been for me. Ending all MultiWindow possibilities is probably the worst part. Well, with the HDMI cable i won't be able to connect USB anymore .. so everything has pros and cons. For what it offers, the wireless adapter was just too expensive and i was really annoyed that it was never remarked on ANY website i read that it ends multitasking features of the Note 10.1.
I was extremely disappointed in the nexus 10's laggy HDMI out. Anyone know the performance on the nexus 7 now? I hope to play emulators on the television.
I'm hoping for lag under 500ms. Really under 100 preferred.

I am experiencing lag using slimport. I have an HDMI adapter for my Note 2, and it works great. With the Nexus, there is a slight lag even if you are using basic apps. Has anyone else ran into this issue?

I suggested the lag might be because the slimport adapter (according to reviews) is always sending HDCP (encrypted content) even for content that doesn't need to be copy protected.
I don't know for sure if that is the cause, but HDCP can introduce slight delays depending on the equipment.
Some people claim to use HDFury to strip the HDCP and use VGA input on their displays. I presume they feel HDFury can process HDCP faster than their TV can. However, if the issue is on the nexus or slimport adapter side, then HDFury really wouldn't help because the lag already happened.
I don't know if this is the case, just providing info for you to look into.
I suppose one could buy the VGA slimport adapter and test that theory out as VGA doesn't have HDCP.
BTW does anyone know how the always-on HDCP protection is working on these slimport adapters?

I looked at the specs for the slimport transmitter and receiver chips here:

I would like to know which Slimport adapter you are using and also your HDMI cable. I just received my analogical Slimport adapter and there is definitely a lag when playing games. Works fine for viewing videos showing pictures, but I have a logitech revue that I can use for that.
I Tried to play some SNES games and the lag made them almost unplayable. Killer instinct and super Mario world were the games I tried. I really hope it's my HDMI cable, but since it works fine with my PS3, then I think it might be the slimport adapter. If that's the case, it really sucks that I wasted $30.

So it appears the TV you use plays a factor. I was originally testing the Slimport adapter with my 32 Inch Phillips LCD TV, model # 32PFL3504D/F7. I went to my bed room and plugged it into my Walmart brand 26 inch ILO TV and to my surprise, I was a able to initiate combos on Killer Instinct with no lag at all.
Not only was it an older seemingly lower grade TV, I was using the lowest grade HDMI cable I had, one I paid $2 for on Amazon. So I took the cable from the ILO TV and went back to the living room to test it with the Philips TV. It produced the same crappy results as my other two High quality HDMI cables.
What I did notice though, is that it wasn't a lag from the nexus 7 2nd gen to the TV but a complete tablet lag. Everything was delayed by a half a second even while looking at the tablet vs looking at the TV. I have no idea why but I have no lag on one TV using my ps3 controller wireless and I have noticeable lag using the same set up on another TV. Also the lag shows on the tablet as well...
Guess it's time for a new living room TV. I wanted to get a bigger screen TV anyway but couldn't justify a reason. Could you tell me what TV you are using?

Has anyone found a way to hook up their tablet to their TV with full display? I bought an hdmi adapter but it has a black bar on each side not covering the whole TV display. My note 10.1 2013 version didn't have this problem.
I have the same issue and haven't found a solution so far. What makes it worse, it defaults to a 1080i 24hz signal which is very noticeably laggy especially when gaming. And the colors are bad. Makes no sense, the note 10.1 should have 0 issue pushing 1080p/60hz when it does usually alot more than that.
what we need is hdmi options. I also want to be able to turn off the screen of my tablet when it's outputting to the TV.

I did some testing today and it really grinds my gears... I have a 3rd party adapter 5 in 1 (hdmi, usb, sd card, micro sd, micro usb) standard 5 pin mhl and an adapter for 11 pin mhl.
-my wife's galaxy s2 works perfectly with the 5 pin. Outputs full 1080p / 60hz smooth and responsive.
-My sgs3 doesn't work at all with the adapter (4.3 stock), it starts charging but there is no image on the screen.
-my note 10.1 2014 works but it outputs 1080p / 24hz and it has a really bad delay that makes it impossible to play games, and of course 24 fps is laggy as ****. And of course it has black boarders on the side.
I can't believe that there isn't a settings menu for hdmi. Even my old transformer tf201 had one. And you get the best experience with the 4 year old sgs2(running 4.2). Unbelievable.

Its extremely frustrating... I don't know if it will ever get fixed... That's one of the main uses for my tablet too.

I've never used a physical adapter so can't really draw one. AllShare Cast works really well on the N10.1-14, a lot faster than my old N10.1-12. Video apps that were barely usable on the '12 are no problem on the '14. I'm not a big gamer so perhaps someone who is and uses AllShare Cast can comment.

Thanks for the info. Does it cover your whole TV screen? I can't really tell in the pics. I don't game on my tablet trying to look at a TV lol I personally think that's kinda dumb. I have a ps3 and games on my tablet that I just play on my tablet.

The TV's got a black frame so it's hard to see. I'd say the picture being mirrored is 100% with some small bars on the sides that are necessary to adjust 16:10 to 16:9. I've noticed nothing distorted in any of the apps/content I've viewed.

Here's another question, I just hooked my tablet up to my ps3 via bluetooth and it will allow me to share video, pic's, and music. But I have some videos downloaded and put them in that folder where the ps3 is looking for them. I rebooted and the ps3 still does not see the video. its an mp4 so Im not sure if I need to convert it to a different format or what. Anyone have any insight on that? Im still new to the ps3 as I just got it a few months back.
I'm not prepared to pay for another 70-80$ device (that's what allshare costs where i live) to get a good image... This tablet is a highly advanced device and i expect hdmi out to work. As I said it works very well on the 4 year old sgs2 why would it work worse on a 2014 device?

EDIT: Never mind. I got it all to work. So I guess thats my work around for now. Im just going to use my ps3 to view the videos I want. Not the ideal solution but it beats spending more money! Hopefully something gets figured out in the mean time. I shouldn't have to rely on a ps3 for this type of thing on such an awesome device.

I have tested Z1C with both Miracast dongle and MHL cable.
MHL cable is so called 5 PIN cable. The same one that works with Galaxy S2 and HTC One X.
MHL Cable works just fine.
I have also tested Miracast dongle (iPazzport). It connects slowly in Miracast mode. Screen and sound gets transferred to TV very slowly. It is basically unusable. The same dongle works just fine with Asus HD7 tablet.
DLNA mode is not usable either for video. At least not for HD content. It can be used for sound transfer. But it has minor problems also with sound only connections. I have tested with the same iPazzport HDMI dongle and WD HDTV Live box.
Please share your experience.

There is definitely some lag with MHL. I can only express my gut feeling. 50-100 ms, I guess. Is there any good way to measure it?

For measuring it, the best method is to start the stopwatch and record the TV and the phone's screen with some point and shoot camera, just stop the video later after 10 seconds for example and see the difference between the times.

MHL lag.
First, tested using timer app in phone. Took pictures containing both mobile and plasma screen.
Out of 13 shots:
0.1 s delay - 9 times
0.2 s delay - 2 times
All the rest, 1 shot had 0.1-0.3 s delay (between TV frames), another had 0 - 0.2 s delay (between TV frames again).
Second test.Used http://vimeo.com/12505989 test video.
My laptop (connected through display port->HDMI) was 100% in sync. Z1C was 2-3 frames late (on 24 fps video).
I would say, it is about 120 ms delay. And it is huge for a cable connection IMHO.

My other phone Galaxy S Advance did much better job with DLNA sharing.
Which means that there must be a problem with WiFi (either HW or SW).
I am really disappointed. Way too many problems with a device that was meant to be almost a flagship. I wonder if all those problems also exist with Z1 older brother as well. Or did Sony cut some corners again...
Anyone who could explain why it's necessary to switch wifi off then on again when you activate media sharing (DLNA)?
Say you sit at home, your wifi is on ofc and you like to send a pic or a track to your AVR or TV, then why does it say "please turn on wifi" when you activate media sharing...
