Has anyone got the stock kennel extracted as a flashable zip or IMG. I'd like to try out some of these kernels, but don't really want to reflash the ROM to revert if I decide they're not for me.
I think extracting and flashing the stock boot.img will revert you back to the stock kernel
Also, I'm pretty sure this should be in the Questions and Answers section
Since (afaik) some kernels also touch system, I would recommend backing up boot and system (image!) in TWRP. Then it's just a couple of seconds to restore both.
i made a backup from the stock kernel with twrp if you like ...

Like he said,
1 Download the FULL ROM zip (not the OTA)
2. Inside the zip folder you'll find a boot.img file. Extract that or copy it to your device
3. Go to TWRP (backup just in case) then go to Install > Select install Image > Select the boot.img you extracted or copied
4. It should prompt you to select boot, recovery, or system image. Choose Boot and then swipe to flash
5. Reboot
Ps. Once you flash the boot.img you'll have to flash twrp again via adb and if you used a root method you'll have to reflash that too.
Thanks guys!
Afaik boot.img are kernel + ramdisk.

Hi all,
I'm looking at flashing ARHD. I've read through the instructions at least 20 times but I'm unsure of just a few things and want to be 100% before trying this as there are a heaps of people who seem to have bricked by not following instructions properly.
As I understand, the process is as follows.......
1. Download super wipe zip and place it on SD card.
2. Download rom and place on SD card.
3. Download firmware package and un-rar.
4. Download 'Official Clockworkmod Touch Recovery 5.8.3.1'
5. Disable antivirus protection on PC.
6. Ensure ADB drivers are installed correctly on PC.
7. Unlock Bootloader via HTC-dev
8. Boot phone in to bootloader and enter Fastboot Mode
9. Install "recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.3.1-endeavoru.img" via fastboot
command in ADB console.
10. Boot in to the newly installed recovery and perform a nandroid backup.
11. Reboot phone into bootloader and enter Fastboot mode.
12. Run "install-boot-windows.bat' as administrator to install the new firmware
13. Reboot and enter recovery mode.
14. Using the newly installed recovery, flash the
"Android_Revolution_HD_Super_Wipe_One_X.zip" on the SD card.
15. While still in recovery, flash the Android Revolutipn ROM zip.
16. Reboot and enjoy.
Have I missed anything there and is this in the correct order?
At what point does the PJ46IMG.zip need to be installed? The instructions for this are unclear.
Also, in the event something goes wrong and the phone doesn't boot (but i can get into recovery mode), can I just flash the backup file? Or does the fact that I've overwritten the boot.img via Fastboot mean that I can't restore the backup without flashing a stock boot.img via fastboot first?
Thanks and sorry to be a n00b. I'm just finding the order a little mismatched moving between various threads and want to be 100% sure.
Cheers.
You'll be fine. Both Firmware 1.26 and 1.28 is OK with arhd.
On going back to your nandroided stock rom, flash your stock boot.img then restore stock nandroid.
Sent either from my Arc or One X using xda premium
Remember to flash boot.img before the rom
I got my One X yesterday, did all you did BUT, after step 11. nandroid backup, I did these: Nandroid -> Super wipe -> Flash boot.img -> Flash ARHD 3.1.0 and everything works fine

Does that mean I don't need to flash PJ46IMG.zip?

No need for firmware files
Team Venom ViperX: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087443
I want to flash the ViperX Kernel#10 but that's not a flashable zip,
I wonder how to flash the boot and modules?
I usually flash kernel with boot.img in cmd or XXX.zip in recovery
Anyone helps?
Yeah flash the whole rom. Extract the boot.img. flash it through the fastboot via cmd.
Afaik viperx uses the stock kernel.
Tweaks are already in the rom

I suppose the tweaks are already inside the ROM zip and you don't need to flash Kernel #10. Also the boot.img is the same.
If they do actually differ in some points, you can put the modules folder from Kernel zip in the ROM zip (in /system/lib folder) and then flash the ROM.
But as I said earlier that wouldn't be needed, as the tweaks are available in the ROM from the very first day they're developed!!!
If I helped, press the thanks button.
The boot.img #10 in the OP is the same as the one in the rom.zip......so flash the boot.img and install the rom.
And if you want to be sure .... I made a flashable zip for the #10 boot.img + modules

The recovery images all over this site seem really sketchy, but roms often come with great recovery and updates. I can flash the rom's boot.img during the update, but I also see that fastboot has a flash to recovery option. Is it OK to flash the boot.img to recovery or do I have to somehow extract recovery out of the boot.img? If I do a flash to recovery does that make TWRP permanent or can it still be overwritten by flashing new roms?

Get twrp from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/general/twrp-3-0-1-amami-t3350827 and flash with Rash for non-stock roms. For stock roms, net's xzdr is best - http://nut.xperia-files.com/
If a rom has a recovery included, it will probably overwrite your recovery. For best staying power, make sure you use real recovery - http://forum.xda-developers.com/son...ral/bootloader-devices-real-recovery-t3117568 but even then you might still have to reflash your img, depending on the rom you install.

Thank you so much. I had the latest TWRP from the AICP rom but it was within the boot image and I couldn't seem to find a plain TWRP image that wasn't on some sketchy thread.
Also I was unaware that my firmware was out of date. When I was installing a rom I saw a number that related to the latest firmware so I assumed I had it. I was confused why using flashboot to flash to recovery wasn't working. It looks like the recovery image was always within the boot image and was getting wiped out with roms that didn't include a recovery image in there (AH HEM PARANOID ANDROID). It seems that I was able to flash the img to the special recovery now and I don't think it's getting wiped out. Thanks very much.
Hello ! I have an A70, I installed Havoc OS and it's.... well I dont like it. I want to back stock rom.
Can I flash stock rom via twrp ? (same way as I installed Havoc or lineage)
Can I flash ONLY system.img ?
My idea is to install stock rom and get root access with magisk at the end.
My problem is I cant find any good informations about that !
All I read is contradictory....
on guy say it's ok to flash only system.img via twrp, other guy say to flash boot.img +recovery.img+system.img and use Odin, never flash stock rom with twrp.
I just want to get back to stock rom and flash magisk again....
any help about the right procedure to install stock rom and flash magisk again ?
thank you....
I don't know about twrp, if you can use Odin it'd be better.

thank you for your answer.
1 - so if I use Odin, I just need to flash AP section ? Or the full firmware ?
2 - recovery will be back to stock too ?
I want to preserve twrp.
3 - I just need to fash twrp right after flash Ap.tar/full firmware ? (without reboot device between the 2 flash)
Right ?
need help to understand how flashing stock rom works (via Odin or twrp).
I already wiped data, system, cache partitions from twrp and now the phone only boot in twrp (the recovery) no system installed.
I just want to get back to stock rom (because I have NO system installed) with twrp which is patched with magisk ( to have root access) simple but I cant find the good procedure...
I am able to install Havoc or lineage, but they doesnt suit me.
I want to flash stock system only.... simple but no answer anywhere...
I can extract system.img.ext4.lz4 from the ap.tar. Then I extract system.img.ext4 from system.img.ext4.lz4.
And cant extract system.img from system.img.ext4 to flash it with twrp. I just miss this step and the answer is nowhere. Like the answer which files can be flash with twrp...
need procedure, every tuto is contradictory....

Flash every file that comes with the stock rom, that's how you get it back. I don't know about root, I'm not rooted.

I don't know of a way to flash stock using TWRP (and preserve TWRP).
Quickest way might just be to:
- Flash back to stock firmware using ODIN in Windows (phone in download mode). This will wipe everything of course, including TWRP (I found).
- Follow the unofficial TWRP installation for the A70 [RECOVERY][UNOFFICIAL][ROOT] TWRP for Galaxy A70
:good:
Im using the ElementalX Kernel but its causing issues for my phone. I have it rooted with magisk too. how can i either go back to the stock kernel, or a different custom one?
Just download the factory image, unzip it, open the system.img and extract the stock boot.img
Then go into fastboot and flash the stock boot image to both slots and reboot.
This restores your stock kernel, and you're done if you just wanted to go back to stock. Now you can re-root it, and/or install another kernel.
You need to be stock before installing another kernel, so you have an untouched ramdisk.
id need to do it for the factory image i used for this one right? (in my case, the may 2020 image),
hey so, i wasnt sure what you meant by opening the system.img but i flashed the boot.img to both slots and rebooted to the slot i was originally using with bliss rom, and now it wont boot..
