Greetings to all,
After three years of faithful service, i feel that my trusty Kaiser is ready to retire. It has served me well and survived a lot (including being dropped in sea water), but it is time to move on. I think i will just keep my Kaiser in the car as a gpsnav until tomtom is released for Android...
Anyway, I am almost set on buying the Desire, but i was wondering if someone could answer the following: I use Bluefire VPN (with group authentication) to access my work email. Is there something that would work equally well on Android?
Thanks for any information you might have.
aalex
The desire has a VPN set up option built in, I don't use it and don't know if it is what you are looking for, but it is worth checking out.

Thanks for responding buddy. I will try and find out more info if i can. Problem is that i cannot test it unless i get another android phone on my hands.
VPN on the desire does what it should. It makes it act as if you were connected to that network. You browse the web through it, you can retrieve exchange mail, etc. I have not yet found a way to access network computers though.
In order to access network computers, you can try Remote RDP from the market. There is a free version "Lite" with which I was not so happy. Since the exchange mail works fine, and since the screen is still too small to really work on the Desire like on a network computer (although it is way bigger than the screen of the Kaiser, I also had one), I decided not to invest into the pay version of Remote RDP and leave it. Actually, I don't miss anything.
Hi there,
does anyone know how to use VPN with a token? Have not found out....and currently I need it but is useless...
Also, can I use this VPN and its settings to get connected to "secret"/hidden network? My company uses a secret net, which the Desire does not find....but was thinkning that if I could set up correctly this net I can login into it (but we use RSA tokens).
Anyone who can help?
thanks
SO I have attempted to contact Ouya over the past few months with ZERO response. I'm hoping someone here can help.
So first up. I have no Internet where my Ouya is located. It had internet when I first got it and worked fine without it.
I have an Ouya and it worked flawlessly up until it would no longer get to the main splash screen. It kept asking for a wifi connection that HAD to have internet. Never did that before.
Then a few days later it would no longer boot properly. It now just sits at the little Ouya circle forever. We attempted to wait 3 days before giving up and shut it off. When I plug in a USB keyboard and attempt a ALT + PNT SCN + i the ouya just freezes.
Anyone able to help me out?
EDIT: I want to point out that I can connect the Ouya to my Windows 8 system and see all the files on the console.

If you havent installed adb yet => do it. After this you can use adb to start applications on your box. For beeing able to start an app it seems like you need to unzip the apk and look into the apps xml file to figure out the name of the method for starting it. (I really dont get it why there is no standard entry point for android apps?!) You can start system setup, an alternative launcher (Nova launcher works pretty) good and go into system settings for changing you wireless setup. Best is probably you hook youre box up somewhere with an 10Base-T Cable and configure the ethernet on the box.
Its said on the Ouya HP that this bug might result from a wrong clock setting. So you might want to check this before you do anything else. I had the same problem and did go away after hooking up my box via ethernet and reboot it a couple of times.
(I am pretty new to adb/ouya n stuff so there might be better solutions)

So friend gave me a FireTV Stick, brand new (Fire OS 5.2.6.3 (606754020), Fire TV Home Version 6.0.0.6-127).
Little desire to deal with Amazon, need to enable USB Debugging & ADB. Gotten as far as Fire App on Phone to bypass Registration to get to Settings-Device-Options, held Center/Down to Enable X-Ray, Developer Options Hidden Menu etc, but can not find any way to Access USB Debugging or ADB to enable them. When you enable Developer Options, only thing it does is give option clear Recorded Metrics whatever. Enabled it, rebooted, disabled it rebooted, re-enabled etc etc, only option I get is to clear recorded metrics.
Tried several diff ways, nothing can recognize it ADB as I can't enable it, tried USB to PC, it recognizes FireTV Stick, can see whats on the Drive or SD Card, but again, can't send files to it without USB Debugging. Rooted every Android Toy I own, not new to this, but has me stumped.
How do you enable USB Debugging or ADB to a FireTV Stick with latest OS without ever Registering it? As far as Normal stuff, it hooks to Network fine (behind Firewall & VPN), but won't Update, why if you go with the Fire App on phone, you can "pair" and get as far as Option to Access Hidden Developer Options etc, but no USB Debugging or ADB Enable Option is there.
Never messed with one, was more a sort of Gag Gift for a favor he owed me, so said why not, lets see what all the fuss over these things is, I wanna tinker with it.
You can always de-register the device from your Amazon dashboard after setting it up for the first time.
I remember reading in another post, someone describing the exact same situation.
Using the app to skip registration and discovering there was no option to enable adb debugging.
Sounds like they may have fixed that.
I noticed in 5.2.6.3 the same security feature Amazon has implemented to detour people from buying and selling blacklisted devices. I have spent more time than I would like to admit trying to find a loophole, but without the ability to enable abd and unknown sources it seems impossible. I hate to say this but Amazon has it locked down and if anyone could figure it out they would have to someone on xda but no one I know has jad a clue. I don't condone theft one bit, but love a challenge and this one has me stumped.
Well, part of the fun, lol. Voice in my head keeps saying the Fire App, has to be a way, but not seeing it as yet. Did read where someone built a special HDMI setup and over loaded the OS, prompting a a "bootloader" screen and got in that way somehow, but far beyond me and said the parts to build it were like $150, let alone knowing what to solder to what etc, beyond my capabilities.

Honestly its fun and has also become consuming trying to find any way to get past each screen lol. I heard the same voice in the past and it worked lol. Now with these 5.2.6.3 2nd gen firesticks I have no way to get to Dev options and with the 4k firesticks it says my login is incorrect to Amazon, and as I previously mentioned I am pretty much out of ideas. Overload HDMI huh? Sounds interesting. Well back to the drawing board for now and If I learn anything I will let you know.
Well, Fire App in my head, dont know why, just keeps coming back to me. Not a programmer, not a Droid, Hacker type, but thinking this way, feel free to tell me Nope, won't work and this is why.
How does it pair with FTV Stick etc? Not Bluetooth etc, so how does it connect? Possible to take Fire App and tinker with code, add some/modify code or a script etc to modify it and get further into FTV OS 5?
Or thinking again, don't know, but seems with a Laptop on say WiFi Network, just like Droid, Iphone, with a Virtual Machine, know Virtual Box you can set up about any Android setup ya want.
So setup a Virtual Machine, tinker with Fire App in some way, and if Laptop can connect to FTV , well, just idea in my head that must be away to get around it, or at least with a Laptop would open many more options to try & beat it. Havent tried this yet, just keeps floating around in my head, may not even connect to a Virtual Machine, maybe over weekend I'll tinker with that a bit.
Somebody who programs etc would know far more on topic, but same idea keeps bouncing around in my mind. Could be dead wrong, maybe they have that locked down to, but guys here, well, how many "can't hack" toys have they already beat, lol.

I wish I knew how to use tasker. Im a newbie but your ideas are great and have me thinking the remote app is the key, but it is a task I do not know how to execute.

Hello,
I have one of these wonderful devices but the digitiser seems to be broken as touch screen does not work at all.
The screen works, it charges, and the buttons work, but the blutooth is off, and I can not get the files via USB as I can not turn that option on.
Is there anyway I can get the data off.
Please help.
Thank you.

Has USB debugging been enabled?
If not, buy a working LG V500 and mount MoBo to it from your V500 (lower cost) or take it to a specialized service that recovers data (higher cost).
If so, then use the adb command on PC or the MyPhoneExplorer application with which you can also enable BT.
Not sure about the USB debugging. I doubt I ever enabled it. Might it be on anyway?
I did have another idea. Could I just connect a mouse via the USB port and use that rather than the touch screen?
Yes, this is the third option.
You must have a special OTG cable.
Yes get an OTG cable to connect a mouse keyboard and monitor/TV to it than you should be able to control the device to turn on USB debugging and get the data off via your computer. That's how I usually get data off of devices with broken screens. It works great as long as your device is compatible.
I have ordered a cheapo one just to connect the mouse. Should be enough as the screen still works. Then I can just turn on media sharing and get everything off via USB, I hope.
Glad to hear it, let us know if it worked!

It is more practical to use a BT mouse, and use the USB port to connect to a PC. Instead of USB, you can connect to a PC via WiFi.
The mouse works, and a keyboard, though not at the same time with my setup.
But the problem now is that my wife does not rember her passcode, or the e-mail address she used. Therefore I can not get in to it her account on the tablet.
There is a second guest account on there that is not protected but that does not have admin rights. I assume, maybe I am wrong, that if I log in with the non admin user, and connect via USB to my PC there will be no way to get to any data in the main account?
Good idea about the BT, I now have that controlling it.

Hold up, is this tablet a windows machine? What OS is it running? Cause there's ways to bypass a password on a windows machine. And no you can not get that data off without being in the account that has the data on it. You would need to heighten the rights of the unlocked account to admin and you can only do that through recovery or through the admin account.
This is an Android tablet, an LG G-pad, and I am sure it has photos of our daughter as a baby on it.
But I really can not find any way in.

I wrote you in post #2:
"...take it to a specialized service that recovers data..."
There is no other option without resetting the device and losing user data including photos.
If it were otherwise, why would there be data security?
There must have been a serious reason that the user secured the phone and an even more serious reason that they forgot the code and email address of the account associated with the phone.

I agree with ze7zez. If the email is forgotten as well not allowing you to recover the device with an account then it's a more serious issue. Forgetting the pin is one thing but if you forget your account information try to recover the account first then you can move on to recovering the device. In the case of forgotten passwords, it's usually best to bring the device to your local data recovery provider. Refer to his post #2 for your next steps.
From what I read it seems early versions of Android have a problem with the username / password back-up method. Even if you know your both you can not get in, and that seems to be true, which is a real bugger.
Hello all! I would like to ask you guys for some help. I just bought mentioned projector (see subject), and it seems its running some android tv system. I would like to get the latest system possible but i fail to get anything...it seems that projector is no longer supported and i cant find anything literally in the internet. I even wrote to brookstone company but they are not knowing anything either...
Things i was able to find is that current compilation number/build is:
KOT49H.20170626_163421_V1.1.3
I tried to tap multiple times multiple options in the projector to get into developper mode - no effect. Update through system fails as it cant connect to the server (i guess its off due to no further support).
The only thing i managed to find is that its the same projector as ioChow i04 and similar to miroir m220. Unfortunately for these two i also fail to get any info...
Is there anyway to "read" projectors spec through any app, or programme from PC perspective?
I also can disassemble the whole projector to check chip or whatever is on motherboard if this would help anyhow.
In general it works greats connecting with HDMi but i also would like to try make it work as standalone (if possible).
Any suggestions or help you can offer - i would appreciate!! . Thank you!
Hey! I just dug up my projector and decided to do some research on it and found your thread through google.
Unfortunately, I do not think you can do anything further than what is on the projector itself. The build of android used is naturally stripped down, and I don't think its possible to "push it" past it's limits (at least on the software side of things ). But who knows? Maybe someday we'll see someone smarter than me exploit some vulnerability, for now I can only hope.
Sorry that this reply wasn't very helpful. I just mainly wanted to let you know that you aren't the only one wanting to get the most out of this thing
