Probably the biggest thing keeping me from upgrading is not having native tether. Any chance this will be something unlockable now or in the near future?

This is incredibly annoying. I can use the app netshare, however my car's Android device does not see the wifi signal, just my computer's at home.
If anyone knows how to get this app to work like a normal wifi network, I'll be happy to keep the phone, otherwise it's a deal breaker.

From searching around I believe our phone uses the 72k right. So is a open psjailbreak port doable for this phone? Why or why not? Thanks

Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I wasn't aware the recent PS3 hack was related to 72k otherwise I might have an answer for you already.
In the event that you're still around at this moment: what does the jailbreak do, exactly? Does it unlock NAND or does it give us ring 0 access?

Nevermind - I misunderstood your question. I thought you meant that this exploit somehow allowed us to access our bootloader, but CR made me realize that you just want to be able to use the Slide to exploit the PS3? Bah, sorry, not interested personally. Not sure why using a flash drive is so difficult
EDIT: if you can't use a flash drive then I'm sorry. If I had a PS3 to test this I might be bored enough to port it, but I'm not. Also, Sony already released a new mandatory firmware upgrade that defeats this exploit, so if you want to play games on PSN, you're screwed.
yea im waiting for usb to arrive, that is not my problem just thought it would be cool to be able to use my phone. as well the firmware update checks can be bypassed with a simple change of dns adress or with a proxy tool. just wondering why it could or couldnt be ported. i am new to android but love my rooted slide. would like to learn more about the community and if someone decides to port i may not be much help but would like to be involved in the process just for the learning experience

effort in > advantage out, meaning that the amount of work to port this isn't worth it to most of us just for a 'coolness' factor.
that PS3 hack is going to ruin the PS3, just wait and see. Sony won the lawsuit against the AUS companies, just a matter of time before they win against the USA companies and the bans start rolling out.
glad I sold my PS3 and gave up on games a long time ago.
The PS3 jailbreak will only support the PSP & USB flash drive and that's it. Im guessing you own one of those right?
There are custom built kernels and roms for the jailbreak already for the nexus one, milestone, dream and various other devices including a TI-84 calculator version.

Sorry, haven't been up to date with Andro, been busy with school lately...Just saw this article http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/05/ps3-jailbreak-adapted-to-nokia-n900-palm-pre-in-wake-of-austral/
Hope dumfuq can implement this for us too.
yes im interested in this too... i was looking at the source to try and compile it with slide kernel but it was confusing haha ill leave it to the pros.....
I tried searching the roms forum, but I couldn't find anything.
It hasn't yet.

Nope. And I wouldn't count on it. Its extremely hard to port it to an all-new platform. The apps are special-made for branded T-Mobile devices.
They are actually just built into the ROMs. A dev on HD2 forum has a really great solution, but it used to be an app of some sorts that needed a specific lib to run. Now it seems that they have started to integrate it into the OS. It has a settings page now, no actual app that needs to run.
There is some development going on for it right now over on the T989 forums. I may just go for it even without wifi calling.

Bump as this would be great for those wanting this phone but suffer from poor indoor T-Mobile reception. This is the only thing making me hold off on getting this device over an SGSIII.

It will never come. Do not hold off expecting T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling to come to this device.
Not having wifi calling was a concern for me but also manyytimes I had problems withnnoticeable delayon a call using ewifiand also yoibmight find that fforcing your phone to 2g where you normally use wifi calling will give you good signal (did for me).

LG G3 is not listed.
Figures... Thanks for the link though
But no LG phones are listed, so it must be unlisted for a reason other than no update coming...
Nexus 6 isn't listed either. I'm pretty sure being omitted from that list does not mean the G3 isn't getting lollipop.
I am not quite sure as to how the LG G3 Lollipop update was left off of the list, but I am happy to report it is in the T-Mobile testing phase. And our testing is going really well. I will reach out to product development and try to get it added to the list. Thank you for pointing this out.

Agreed
G3 is now listed as 'Manufacturer Development'.
Why on earth is T-Mobile just now in the testing phase when every other carrier has had a release. T -mobile is the new Verizon when it comes to updates, very sad. I expected more from the uncarrier.
Maybe they are trying to fix the roaming data connectivity issues wrt IPv6. See the old threads.

Could be, T-Mobile is the only carrier using IPV6 only on LTE (if I'm not mistaken). They could also have required VoLTE be working, so LG could be taking longer to make sure all this works. Still sucks that it's taking so long.
i had to move from a nexus 5 to a lg g3, what a regression when you see t-mobile slowing such updates!
I've been using a Moto X 2nd Gen. New job has the silly policy of not allowing rooted devices to access our craptastic Lotus Notes e-mail. The G3's KitKat build is unusable without root. Hoping Lollipop is better, otherwise the G3 will be finding a new home.

You could use RootCloak on Lotus Notes so your work wouldn't be able to detect it.

I tried. Didn't work. They use Airwatch and I couldn't get anything to fool it on the G3 while rooted.
But now that you pointed me to it again, I searched through the RootCloak thread and apparently there is a version of Airwatch that can be fooled. I'll have to try it and see if I can get it working on my G3. That would be awesome.

The answer is so simple...
There's developmental teams for each region and NOT all of them finish at the same time... The last responses shows how childish some people are. Some devices get finished on other carriers and some don't. T-Mobile isn't always the first and they are not always the last. You can say that with ANY carrier.
If manufacturers really wanted to fix this problem they should take away the carrier options they give them, and then have a single base phone so they only need to code for a single device(iPhone 6, and 6+ as an example they are all exactly the same). Of course device prices would get more expensive then people will complain how expensive they are while blaming the carrier for the prices.

The fact of the matter being LG had 5.0 in hand early to mid Q4 and many carriers were putting finishing touches on their certification by the end of the year. We are now 2 months in to Q1 and every carriers' update status has surpassed ours. When you say there are different development teams for each region I assume you mean domestically which makes perfect sense but isn't that a nice way of saying "we're not ready yet". I'm not one to usually ***** about updates because it makes things less enjoyable in most cases but I'm a little blown away. When I heard LG G3 was one of the first handsets scheduled to get lollipop I thought for sure T-Mobile would shine once more. I just need to modify my definition of "soon" because in T-Mobile's dictionary the definition is a month or more.
So my note 7 just started not letting me go online while on the phone. It's very odd as it has been working fine. No updates have been done as I'm blocking then. All my settings are correct as well. Anyone else seeing this?

Lol...im a little surprised to see this question dude.
So you actually have no idea that the carriers are blocking access to their networks now?
Who are you with? I suppose it could be something else but kinda doubt it unfortunately

Verizon.. And yea it was working. Why would they block it?
Wow that was fast. Didn't Verizon just release a statement today that their going to completely cut off the remaining Note 7s from their network as a final straw?
Something like that yea.

Not that i agree with the blocking in fact i think its crap but samsung has been trying to get all the devices back.
Blocking network access was the logical next step after they realized many of us blocked the OTAs to kill our batteries and were still happily using the device.

Am I magisk 16. 7. Rooted Android 9. 0. What is the best and easiest way to tether? It seems the tethering enabler mod no longer available. Am on verizon Grandfather unlimited plan. Thanks!
is this confirmed? the build.prop edit does not work to allow the native tethering?

Worked for me I'm on the old school Verizon plan. I just edited the build prop in Root Explorer all good.
I can confirm this. Build prop edits have been working since I upgraded to Pie. Same plan, grandfathered in as well. :good:

How do I edit it?
I'm in the same boat. I've looked everywhere, I'm not very good at it. I'm very sad with this situation.
I was torn between getting a Note 8 or the Pixel 2 XL. Then when I learned the Note 8 doesn't play ball (the Verizon version) when rooting, I went for the Pixel thinking "If there's a phone that can be rooted, this is the one". Just to learn the how evil Verizon is regardless the phone model.
Man... was I crushed when I tried to tether after rooting... It doesn't work. And I still can find a way to do it. It's so nostalgic to remember when I'd fire up WiFi Tether - TrevE Mod in my Note 2, and now I have to settle for FoxFi in my unrootable Note 4 praying it won't stop working (like it has done several times before). This was another reason why I decided to leave my beloved Note 4 behind, so I could stop worrying about depending on one single app for tethering. Now I'm trapped in between a new rooted phone that can't tether and an unrooted one that does, but might lose the capability at some time. Also, I don't like the new Direct Hotspot options in FoxFi.
I'm carrying 2 phones around right now for no reason. I'm so sad. Not being able to tether the way I'm used to is the only reason that keeps me from completely transitioning on to the Pixel. I can't figure out what that build.prop is. Please some help. Thank you.
Regards.
