I was holding out hoping they would start getting desperate to get the recalled units back, let's hope this is the case, so i guess i should hold out longer now Nd see what happens. They should give us discounts on the next phone, but that doesn't really help being on contract for people like me on the next plan, if i switch the s7 edge right now, I'm locked in for a year unless I pay off half the phone, its a mess but I'm hoping this mess blows over soon, I dont want the S7 but I will use it temporarily until a real upgrade drops, otherwise I'll keep my Note 7, really just depends in what Samsung is willing to do to get me to give it up lol.
https://www.google.com/amp/www.techtimes.com/amp/articles/183031/20161022/samsung-considering-offering-galaxy-note-7-customers-discounts-on-new-galaxy-s8-s8-plus-and-note-8-upon-release.htm?client=ms-android-att-us
I was feeling the same until, in the interests of safety and concern I might need to fly unexpectedly, I swapped for an S7E. The phone is fine. I miss the iris scanner a bit. I barely used the s-pen. I think the battery life is better. I can totally live with this phone for a year or two. I'm on the Jump plan but I really don't make use of the upgrade option much.

So much for keeping the S8 a secret.
I think I've already made up my mind with the LG V20. So I'll pass on this offer.
Discount or not, many will still be in a contract if they were forced to take the S7...
Doesn't seem like this speculative deal is just for hold outs, but for anyone who owned a Note 7.

LCD? Really? I just can't see beyond that glaring weakness.
So far this offer appears to only be for users in South Korea - Samsung may simply never make the offer worldwide, that would be somewhat extreme and basically cost them double what this whole thing is costing them at this point in time.
Perhaps this offer arose for Korea because some 500 people are sueing them there already?
Now a S7 Edge explodes. wtf?

So I can sign up for an S7E then get a Note 8 upgrade mid term at 50% off? http://www.androidcentral.com/samsu...korea-makes-it-easier-buy-galaxy-s8-or-note-8
Assuming they extend this offer to the UK that is. Well I returned my N7 and am awaiting a call from Carphone Warehouse to upgrade to the S7E. But I guess I'll only do this if they extend the offer to the UK...
COME ON SAMSUNG....it's not just S. Korea that have been screwed over.

I would be willing to bet that almost every model of phone has had a couple examples of individual phones having meltdowns. It's called "acceptable risk of failure"
i.e. the manufacturer tests and does calculations on their product, and analyzes it to determine how likely the device is to fail, and what the potential damage from said failure would be. If the financial risk due to that failure is lower than the cost to lower the failure rate, they don't care about it (unless the failure rate would be so high that it would draw negative media attention, such as the case with the Note 7).
I imagine that Samsung did this with the Note 7 - they looked at the situation and figured "well, we can swap to the single battery maker for xx million dollars, and replace existing batteries (as well as potentially the glass and body), and the failure rate risk will be lowered to 1 in whatever number of phones". Then when they did that, they realized that the continuing failure of first gen phones, combined with a very small handful of second gen phones (yes, there were 25 or so failures after the phones started being replaced, but not nearly all of those were second gen phones), the only options were either do a full recall, and mitigate the potential financial liability from a lawsuit, or do a complete recall and re-release the phone after putting it through even more extensive testing and possibly an update or repair to the hardware (requiring full recertification and testing for most countries they are sold in that require such certification). The cost was too great, and the risk was too great, so they canned the phone.

I wonder if the editor of that publication read the article before he wrote the headline? The article says 50% off screen repair costs. It says nothing about a 50% discount on an S8 or Note 8!

Oh of course. I'm actually brand neutral. I have tried many brand of smartphones over the years.
Starting with the HTC Dream, and then I've had Motorola, Samsung, Xiaomi, Sony and one more that slipped my mind.
The smartphone has become such a personal device for me, it has already superceded my laptop usage. I've had cheap smartphones in the past and I had enough of those. Few months ago, decided to have one super smartphone that does everything I need. And the Note 7 looked like it fit the bill. But we know how that ended up. And the S7 Edge doesn't quite fit the bill for me.
The LG V20 looks good for my daily use. I totally understand why you'd disagree. But we all have our personal preferences. And the V20 might just work out for me. At the same time, it would be the first time I'd try LG.

How was your Xiaomi experience? I'm eye-balling the Xiaomi Note 2 that just dropped today as a temporary device until the S8 or Note 8 comes out, something to just buy outright and enjoy. But never owned anything but Samsung, so yes I'll def lose the Samsung Perks, I.E. Samsung Pay, Gear VR Etc. But looks-wise Xiaomi did a DECENT job imitating the Note 7, that Skin is just blehhhhhh though.

They're decent smart devices for the price.
However, most reviews of smartphones (every smartphone, not just Xiaomi) fail to cover is the call quality. I mean, it's a smart -phone- after all.
I make phone calls all the time. My parents, my in-laws, my wife, friends, etc.
Once, my wife and I had the Redmi 2, and it was one of the most frustrating experiences we had. We were constantly struggling to make out what we're telling each other.
We've since switched phones. She got a Galaxy S6, I got the Xperia Z3 Compact, VoLTE and HD Voice was like butter to our ears.
I got the Note 7 initially, so that we could communicate using 3G video calls, something not many smartphones support. But now that the Note 7 is discontinued, I have to search for an alternative.
I was quite close to settle for the S7 (no Edge), until I discovered the V20 also supoorts 3G video calls. So I'm giving that a shot.
Edit - Oh and charging was slow. After experiencing quick charge, you can't go back.
To be fair, I'm not sure about the newer flagship Xiaomi phones. But I don't think I'll be getting another Mi phone soon. I am eager to try OnePlus 3 some day.

So far, reports suggests it's only in S Korea. Not worldwide.
What's the real story as to where the Pixel XL is in the U.S. ?
- Google's own website says sign up for a news letter as to when the phone will be back in stock sometime next year
- Verizon is out of stock on the XL for two months !!!
- BestBuy discontinued the XL, will not carry it anymore
What's up with BestBuy discontinuing and not carrying or selling the XL anymore ?
My guess this falls on HTC's manufacturing capabilities, I bet the Pixel and Pixel XL, have sold more than the entire run of HTC Ten this year. And maybe HTC just can't keep up with demand, and now Google is scrambling behind the scenes. Or maybe Google wasn't thinking like they typically do on Nexus launches, and completely underestimate how many will sell ?
Sometimes I think the Nexus and now Pixel line is just some little pet project in the basement at Google's headquarters, with just the ultra nerd team working on it, with like 1% help from the upper brass and management. At the end of the day selling HTC made Google phones isn't making them their billion$.
I just bought one from the Google store about twenty minutes ago. I kept loading the page and every now and then it would show in stock. Had it in my cart once and at checkout it glitched and went away, second time it went through. I am guessing they are only allowing one sale every so often so they can keep up.

What I know for shure is, that one of HTC bigger Factories got destroyed by a Tsunami (also some more like some from Canon and so on), and the Parts they need, can only be manufatured slower than before.
And also due to the huge demand of the bigger variants they arent able to accomplish their request. I have pre Ordered the Pixel XL 128 GB Quite Black in Germany, and eventhough I had pre Ordered, I had to wait nearly 1 1/2 Months to get it.

I ordered mine in Google store Germany on 16th of December and was delivered on 22nd
Got my 128 from Verizon and it took 2 days. It originally said won't ship til Dec 28 but ended up taking 2 days.

For 900 dollars you can get a piece of **** phone!
I know, I got one!
I ordered mine through a Verizon deal on the 19th of december, estimated delivery date is the 18th of January. Still waiting unfortunately.
I ordered my phone on 12/19 was suppose to ship on the 28th, instead I got the notice that it was delayed 2 months. I wonder if this phone will turn out to be a great phone but extremely rare. It's bad when Bestbuy stops carrying the phone.
I was lucky. I woke up at 03:00 am and couldn't go back to sleep, so I got on the web. Went to several places looking for 128gb Pixel XL and it was atrocious. $1600 on Amazon. Goughers!!! Anyways, I went to eBay and was looking and all of the sudden I found 128g used Pixel XL. I couldn't believe my eyes. Well, I bought it. Says it's in good condition. We'll see. Anyways, hope it works out. I'm currently using Pixel 5.0 and I love this thing. I had a note 7 and I finally turned it on last week. no regrets.

Yeah what the heck is up with that?
Google will never catch Apple like this. Really frustrating. I've read many reviews of iPhone lovers making the switch and adoring this phone but maybe make it available??
My Nexus 6 is starting to die off, and I'm in the market for a new device. I've been eyeing the Pixel XL since it was announced, and now I can't find one. I looked at Best Buy, but they don't carry the 128gb models, and the price of the 32 P and PXL are inflated.
So, with the "shortage" I feel like I'm in a weird place. Currently, only the OnePlus 3T and the Pixel XL are attractive, and both are out of stock and at minimum weeks away.
Not sure if I should keep waiting for the PXL at this point, or just look for something new coming out in the spring.

Does anyone know why BestBuy officially stopped selling the Pixel XL ? Their website says product discontinued or something ? But they still sell the tiny Pixel.
I went to BB today, asked a cell phone salesperson about the XL he said Best Buy took that product off the system and they no longer offer it.
I asked if they'll get it back in the near future ? He said he wasn't sure.
This sucks, because I got a crap load of BB gift certificates for Christmas and I had a few left over from my Birthday totaling $350 now, and was gonna purchase a Pixel XL outright, but tyry don't sell the phone anymore.
Exactly how the 6P sold. Always sold out and you're lucky to get one.
It's all kind of ridiculous. I checked with my Verizon store. You cannot get a Pixel XL, or even Pixel 128GB within 100 miles of me at any store. All colors. I then talked to the corporate people and they said they have called 19 different stores across 5 states and none of them had any of these aforementioned models within 100 miles of there either.
I think Google is really dropping the ball. I get trying to drive up interest by making it seem like everyone wants it so it's perpetually out of stock, but most people won't wait a month or longer for a phone - they'll just get the next "droid" over from that one (probably an S7 Edge the way Verizon employees love Samsung and push them so hard).
I'm really rooting for this phone like to knock Samsung and Apple a bit, but they need to learn to manufacture a little quicker or get better forecasts of sales. For a company based on algorithms, their forecast algorithm sure does suck tremendously.
It really is unbelievable how Google can miscalculate and underestimate how many units they need to produce for stock. I could see when the phone first launched they may have been caught off guard how much of a hit seller this would be.
But it's been out for three months already. They should have a firm grasp where they need to be production wise.
And to have it sold out for 6 to 8 more weeks still. Wow.
Once Sansung releases the Galaxy S8 in March / April, the Pixel line will see a major drop in sales, and will just be the ultra nerd geek phone again like the Nexus phones. The average buying public will for sure be tempted by the new S8.
Even though myself I still prefer a good stock Android phone #1, I'd take a Pixel XL over the S8 Plus phone. But most people won't.

All very true. Most people love Samsung now since it has become almost as well known as Apple. I mean, I hear people say, "do you have an iPhone or a Galaxy?" Talk about an ignorant question, but that's people's mentality about phones. Google can change that with the next few iterations of the Pixel as people get more familiar with the name (if Google keeps pushing it with the ads too!) but they need to learn how to produce phones that are in high demand. It's really disappointing and frustrating.
Ordered mine December 16th and it still says January 20th expected ship date.
I ordered a Pixel XL 32GB black December 20th and it's listed as Pending with an estimated shipping date between January 13 and 17.
Conspiracy theory here, tinfoil hat time. What if the Pixel actually was selling very well on Verizon from Oct - Dec. which I think it was, and now it's out of stock. But what if the big guys like Samsung and LG got pissed they had competition from Google directly, and viewed this Pixel phone as a threat, and maybe they made a stink about it ?
That also begs the question, maybe Google didn't originally allow the Pixel phones to be on all U.S. carriers for a reason, knowing if it got real popular and was a success, it might dent into the sales of the big Android players like Samsung, LG, Motorola, etc... And then a **** storm would brew up.
I would like to purchase the S8+ for us on T-Mo. Being on the cusp of the Note 8 release, would it behoove me to wait for a better deal or go ahead and take advantage of the trade-in program now? I'm not as tuned into the Sammy promotional cycle as I should be, so not sure how this has gone historically. Thank you for any help.
Wait for what? A deal or a more expensive device that's bigger and probably only marginally better? I would give myself a deadline if I were you, and if no deal pops up by then, just buy it from the cheapest place available at that time.
This is coming from a guy who bought it day1 at full retail price then see the phone go on sale just days later. No regret though.
I'd wait if you can for the Note 8 and see if they s8+ drops in price or if the note8 is worthy upgrade
I would like to buy the s8+ no matter what. Just wondering if waiting for the note 8 to drop might yield more aggressive promotions on the s8+ or will they stop promoting it and steer people to the shiny, new note.

They have brand new in the box S8+ on Swappa for as low as $540.00 right now.
https://swappa.com/buy/samsung-galaxy-s8-plus-tmobile
I always wait a month or two after launch to see if there's any physical gremlins that need to be sorted out by Samsung and sure enough the Note 7 vindicated this caution on my part. I've been a Note user since the Note 1 and the only reason I'm using an S8 Plus now is because my Note 5 was getting a bit long in the tooth.
If things look good by late October I'll start exploring purchasing options, for sure. Although the announcement from Samsung isn't for another two hours, we're pretty aware of what the basic specs are going to be on this Note 8. Between the S8 Plus and Note 8 there's not going to be massive differences outside of the extra camera, S-Pen and the extra 2GB of RAM.
For me the S-Pen alone is enough reason to pick it over the S8 Plus. Not that the S8 Plus isn't a fantastic device, because it very much is. I'm just an addict of the S-Pen.
Just wait and get one of the new 600mhz phones when they release... service will be alot better...
I don't see any benefit with pre-ordering it as I will be waiting weeks till I actually get my purchase and I can pass on the google home mini so I rather just buy it when it actually releases but I don't want to be in the same situation as others had when the Pixel XL released. So if anyone can help me decide if I should preorder or if I should be good when the Pixel 2 XL actually releases. Im hoping Google learns from their mistakes and makes enough Pixel 2 XLs for everyone:fingers-crossed: also I plan on getting 128gb btw if that helps. Thanks!
If it's been like every other year, you can guarantee it. You can set your watch to it. Ordering problems, whatever you can think of.
It's going to be a cluster ****. So, if you want one, take tomorrow off work and be prepared to get a new F5 key or keyboard.

I m optimistic that this year will be better than last. After at least a couple years now where Google has had a hard time keeping stock, they've hopefully learned their lesson. They dumped a bunch of money into LG's screen division this year, hopefully to help up production. Also, the pixel 2 will have a more typical development window (maybe) than the pixel which went from concept to production in an un characteristically short amount of time. Finally, while LG is no Samsung, I think they are bigger than HTC with greater production capabilities. Hopefully these things add up to a better stock of phones at release. Of course, there are no guarantees.
I've pre-ordered every year and have always had a negative inventory experience! Guess we'll find out soon if this launch is different...
Placed my order for Pixel XL 2 during the show.
Shipment 1 Delivery October 19–October 20
Pixel 2 XL (64 GB, Just Black)
$849.00
Quantity: 1
Its already unavailable!
I ordered mine during the event as well, 2 XL 128GB just black. I was going to go with the 64gb version but looked at my phone and saw I would only have about 20gb left if mine was 64gb (I have a 128gb currently). That is one years worth of use on my Pixel XL and I haven't removed anything from my device. I think I would rather have less than 50% used than more than, so wasted the extra $100.
Pixel 2 128XL Black pre-ordered 11:15pst, Ships around Oct 17...
I'm holding off on buying 2 XL until enough user feedback shows Google solved the LTE cellular data thing.
100% chance. They probably have like 5 in stock right now.

Let's say I wanna get the Pixel 3 XL (yeah, even with that notch). Would you rather trade-in your current Pixel 2 xl with Google itself OR sell on Swappa or craigslist? or anywhere else?
1 . The phone is all stock, will be giving the Caseology case with it too and also two D-brand skins.
2. Inlcuding adapter, charger and cable.
3. Minor scratch on left side of the bottom speaker grill; not in the display area. Could post a picture when I have a second device to do so
Also, not sure what my next phone could be. Could be Note 9 or OP 6t too. Just not sure right now. But I am sure I am upgrading this year.

I don't know what these phones are selling for on Swappa or Craigslist, but last year, Google gave $400-450 (can't remember which for sure) for a pixel xl trade in, as long as the screen wasn't cracked and the phone worked. Since the 2's were more expensive, that number may be higher. I'm betting you'll get more from Google (and it'll be easier). If I end up getting the 3 xl, I'm just trading it in with Google.

I've had phones sit for 3 weeks before. And I've never gotten $400 for a phone. Most have been two years old though. Anyway, I'm going with less work for sure!
They gave me $430 trade in last year for my Pixel XL. Might do the same this year pending details and specs....
Looking at other's posts, it may be worth it to wait and see what Google offers for trade.
If you decide to sell, I recommend swappa.
I have bought 22 devices and sold 21, since December of 2012. I've only had minor issues, a couple times, which were resolved to my satisfaction. BTW, all of these sales and purchases were for my or my family's personal use. I'm an not a dealer / reseller in any way.
I just bought my first Pixel 2 XL a couple weeks ago, on swappa. It was in good shape (only one minor scratch on screen) and one bezel nick with two cases, original box and all accessories, for $460.
I'm going to see what Google offers for the 2 XL. Now I'm just thinking do I want 3 XL or 3? Leaning towards a smaller phone this go around.

Yeah, looks like I'm gonna see what Google has tomorrow & what they offer for trade in. I do want a screen as big as now (6 inch) or bigger. So it has to be something like the Pixel 3 XL (never minded any notches), Note 9 or OP 6t. However, I never liked one thing about Samsung phones. Being a heavy user in the past of Samsung phones (S3, S5, S6 edge plus), I know for sure the amount of bloatware that comes with them, even if it is the latest flagship & an unlocked device; then there is the forever wait for the software updates too, etc. That is why I do want a phone with stock or at least close to stock android UX.
Then there is OP; great software experience which is close to stock and cheap! BUT that is exactly the problem. In the past, some teardowns of the One plus devices have shown the material quality used in production of these devices is really mediocre. Example like wiring, semi conductor materials, metal quality, etc.
So in the end, guess what? Pixel 3 XL remains. Let's see!
So long as google doesnt botch the trade-ins again this year (I waited months to get my credit, as did many others), it will be the same or better than swappa, once you deduct swappa fees, most likely paypal fees, and the hassle of shipping it out.
Google sends you all you need for the trade-in at no cost to you.
After watching the last leak, I can see how huge that 3Xl is, although the notch doesn't bother me and the display looks good. But dang I might downsize and go with the 3. I guess I'll know in a few hours
So if I decide to pull the trigger today and then trade my 2XL in does anyone know what happens with preferred care? Do they give you a refund prorated back, apply it to preferred on the 3XL, or is there something manual to do? Thanks
Trade in for Pixel 2 XL is only $325! I'll either sell it or give to my daughter

The pixel 2 xl 64gb is $325, 128gb is $335
The pixel 2 64gb is $300, 128gb is $327
The pixel xl 32gb is $130, 128gb is $154
The pixel 32gb is $119, 128gb is $124
Yeah mine is 64gb. I feel like I got a better trader in plus the Google home mini going from an og pixel to pixel 2 XL.
As I recall they charged your card when it shipped. That's how many of us knew ours was shipping. Looks like they charged right away this time.
I went with the 2Xl in the end. I like the notifications tucked in the corners and it was only $100 for 64gb.
Just received a Google email for a $50 store credit on a Pixel 3. whoopty doo!
Any idea if 2XL case will fit? They're only $10-15 so no big deal if not

Some may, it depends on how the case handles the buttons. The 3XL buttons are in slightly different position than 2XL. The 3XL buttons also appear to be very slightly smaller.
I ordered a spigen rugged armor for the 3 XL, it just came today.
The phones look to be identical in size, just with different button offsets, so if the 2XL case has openings for the buttons as opposed to covering them it would probably work. If anything it may need a small trim to accomodate the buttons.

Thanks for the tip. I like Spigen and caselogic products. I'll check out what is available
