I am just curious if any of you have tried ANY USB (Type C or other via OTG) headphones or earphones on our Honor 8 Pro.
I am sure it would work. But just curious. I am thinknig of getting the Mi Noise cancelling USB Type C earphones.

IDK
I'm in the same situation- I want to buy the usb c headphones but I'm not sure if they're compatible, especially since the phone already comes with a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
I tried. They work GREAT!

Let's put it this way. If you get the same model of headphones. One with a headphone jack and one with usb. Then the USB one will sound better. Because USB gives you direct digital signal unlike the downsampled analog signal. But if you use Neutron music player with normal headphones you might get close to the usb audio quality.

Thought My HTC 10 came already with the hi-res headphones... I think I might have another one if it's priced okay... the only thing I'm missing is lack of Volume controls... and better Media controls also...
What the JPL will have more than this hi-res one... Is the JPL Hi-Res also ?

They are noise cancelling earbuds powered by USB-C which is just a cool concept. They should be decent quality but I don't think audio output via USB-C uses the DAC and AMP. Id still give them a try though.

I have EU package and ear buds were in the box and they really are nothing special. The bass was poor quality, I think red ear buds from HTC M7 were better quality.
Those hi res ear buds are just sitting in the box, I have Shure S315 so I dont even bother with any bundle earphones.

Thanks, Nice concept, the only issue with USB-C headphones in my opinion is the fact if you only have Type-C headphones then you cant charge and listen in the same time... having an adapter is a bad idea ( something more to carry )...
For me, Sony's way of handling it is better, the only issue is that it's proprietary... they have the Noise-Cancelling logic in the phone, and use special headphones with extra mics ( one per each side ), so headphones only needs new connectors for the NC mics in the 3.5mm plug to work ( making the headphones cheaper also )...
Hi, I've found that the headphone output of this phone, while good for some headphones, has too much noise for sensitive IEMs and not enough power for some less efficient headphones, so I'm looking into a portable DAC/Amp. I tried this one with a USB-C adapter:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FJSEAZ4
But it didn't work. I know the USB-C adapter works, as I've used it with a thumb drive, and I know the DAC works on other Android devices, but apparently compatibility isn't universal. So has anyone successfully tried a portable DAC with this phone?

Thanks, that's good to hear. I was considering one of Fiio's products
I tried this one: http://hifimediy.com/android-dac
Works very well together with an USB B to C converter that supports USB OTG and drove even my good old 600 Ohm AKG K 141 loud enough!
It has a Sabre DAC. Bought it out of concern that the sound of the phone might not be good enough. But it is - at least with low impedance headphones like my Ultimate Ears UE 10 TF I don't find a difference to the 180 $ sony walkman of my GF.
(Small remark: Used a Samsung USB B to C converter first. This one, while doing very well on the PC and with ADB and also with the charger did not work as OTG adaptor.)

Weird, that's the exact one I tried that didn't work. Maybe I needed a different USB-C OTG adapter

For sure. It works for me without problems - plug and play.
I use this adaptor: http://www.delock.com/produkte/G_65678/merkmale.html
Side note: While I could use the Samsung adaptor for charging (but not for OTG devices) this one works well for OTG - but not for charging.
Edit: The price for te DAC on the amazon side is way higher than if you buy directly from the Hifimediy website.
And you should also note, that this DAC while it's pretty good for higher impedance phones did not work well with my low (32 ohm) impedance IEM's. But for those I found no need to use the DAC.
I ended up with a Fiio E18, I like the fact that it has playback control, plus B&H has it on sale right now. It doesn't seem to work with Poweramp, but it works perfectly with USB Audio Player PRO.

Will USB Audio Player read OTG storage?
Most file explorers do not see mnt/media_rw/0EB0-0FF. Do any players?
Quick, and hopefully not too stupid, question, do I need to root the phone to get the DAC working with Google Play Music?

I have been trying a lot of custom ROMs recently on my Z2 Plus and I noticed the audio quality from the 3.5mm headphone jack is not particularly good on any of them. When listening to a piece of music or a podcast with quiet sections, a crackling noise is audible that makes it hard to hear any detail in the audio. The problem is most notable at low volume levels of just a few notches. I tried disabling any audio enhancements like the 'AudioFX' app that comes with Lineage-based ROMs, but this did not make much difference.
I listened to the same MP3 files on my ZTE Axon 7 and the audio is crystal-clear with no crackling present in the slightest. I'm using a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M50 monitor headphones.
I know the ZTE Axon 7 has a Hi-Fi audio DAC which might explain why it sounds so much clearer, but I didn't expect the difference to be this much... Is the bad audio quality just a limitation of the ZUK Z2's hardware, or is it something that the custom ROMs are not implementing correctly?
Which ROMs have the clearest audio quality from the headphone jack?

Thanks, I actually tried both of these tips before making this thread but I wasn't overwhelmed by the difference in audio quality... When playing music I still hear the crackling/static kind of noise during the quiet parts. I think it's probably a limitation of the hardware more than anything else.
Do you guys think using a 3.5mm to Type-C adapter with a built-in DAC would solve this problem? Then I could play music through the Type-C port instead of using the headphone jack.

You can always use a external dac via usb c port. Someone from zukfans.eu said it is working. But external dacs are expensive. Type c to 3.5mm jack adapters wont do anything if it does not have any dac inbuilt

Okay, thanks. The reason I mentioned the Type-C adapters is because I thought some of them were marketed as having an inbuilt DAC. But that could be wrong and the ZUK might not have compatibly to use it anyway.
Yeah, I don't like the thought of buying an external DAC since I don't intend on keeping this phone much longer anyway. I'm just having trouble choosing my next handset since the smartphone market is so stagnant at the moment. LG V30 would be good for audio quality but it uses PWM which hurts my eyes too much.
try paranoid rom nougat version, it was the only rom in which I felt the audio quality was better. ZUK 2 clearly have poor hardware, my old moto g3 sounds much better.
HI does this work with OnePlus 8 ?
OnePlus Type-C to 3.5mm adapter:
https://www.oneplus.in/product/oneplus-type-c-adapter
I purchased Oncro Type-C to 3.5mm adapter but it wasn't working properly, there was audio but Stereo was not good:
LEFT was heard only is LEFT but RIGHT was heard in both LEFT and RIGHT. So I had to return it.
I have Audio-Technica Headphones that I want to use for playing Games (for low latency).
Before buying this want to confirm if this actually supports OnePlus 8

Thank you for the information. Can you check the stereo response using any test video from YouTube.
With mine (not oneplus though) i could hear the RIGHT signal in both ears. Soni had to return.

Bought mine from oneplus site and working good. But looks very delicate not sure it will survive long.
It's a little on the pricey side but it's the only one that I tried that does both.. Headphone jack and charging at the same time without effecting the warp speed charging or effecting the sound quality of my ear buds..

Yes I got the same feeling, I think that when plugging and unplugging the cable you have to pay attention to pull from the white plug and not from the red cable to avoid damage
Hi friends,

Does it work with inline controls of the headphones?
---------- Post added at 03:32 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:29 AM ----------
I got the ESR 2-in-1 USB-C PD Headphone Jack Adapter from Amazon. The audio seems ok but the inline controls don't work.
I am not able to route audio through a USB-C to headphone dongle. Is this possible? The sound just plays through the phone speakers. I use this to record sounds from my phone. I've tried turning Bluetooth off. Any suggestions?
I've had a problem with this too, from probably the Pixel 4a and 5, these smartphones require an adapter with a DAC, meaning a regular analog adapter doesn't work and you need a digital-analog adapter. At least that's what they said in other topics in the Pixel 5 sections. I have currently bought a Nillkin NH-1 with DAC and am waiting for delivery, if it works it would mean that what they wrote is true (gonna update this post).
@edit
It works now with my Pixel 6 pro and iPad mini 2021
