Hi to everyone! I'm Mimmo. Premise: I don't know English very well so pardon me please!
Scenario: a few months ago I bought a Lenovo P2 (P2a42), great phone but I broke it last week, the display and fingerprint sensor didn't work, and the body has some dentures (I've attached photos). The rest I think is working. Since I fell in love with it, I decided to take another one, but from China (P2c72 with P2a42 firmware) and this led to the inability to use band 20. Unfortunately, I didn't think the band 20 was so fundamental in my area (Italy)
Now, the question is: what locking band 20 on P2c72? Is it a software or hardware lock? In the case of hardware, can I disassemble the unlocked piece from the broken one and mount it on the working one? Or should I mount the P2a42 entire internal hardware in the P2c72 body (also using the P2c72 display)? Or is it better to leave everything as it is now?
I hope I have explained the question well, thanks to everyone!

It's a hardware lock, so you would need to swap the motherboard.
In question & answers section there are some threads that contains some useful links of threads that explain how to unlock some bands. I ordered p2c72 and I'm in the same situation. I think that with TIM I won't have any problem, but if I see that phone stays on 3g too much time, I try to follow one of that guides.
Thanks for the answers guys!
Matteo, of course everything depends on how your area is covered but in my area there is a kind of "empty" or "fake" 3G that doesn't always work. Especially inside buildings where the 4G doesn't penetrate, the use of EDGE is frequent. However, I noticed that with the old phone (LG Magna H500F) I could navigate perfectly in 3G (same SIM), with this P2 (P2a24 and P2c72) the 3G doesn't work properly. I do not care much about navigating in 4G but I thought at least to have good 3G support! Instead, this phone becomes almost unusable with 3G ... Repeat, it certainly depends on the coverage of your area
So, I just have to do one of these two things.
Software mod: I didn't find P2-specific guides. Are those guides ok for my phone? Matteo, will you follow one of those?
Hardware mod: I read on the net that those who handle the frequencies (CA) is the modem but I can't figure out where to find it. I guess it's inside the Snapdragon. It would seem easier to swap everything...
thanks!

There aren't guides that are specific for p2 one. I know only that you can see in Q&A section that in the last threads there are some useful links for adding frequencies! Tell me if you can get some frequencies working!
Can any advance user make a guide for P2 to unlock LTE bands or Enabling CA for various configs./bands ?
Threre are plenty of Guides in XDA but our P2 device is slightly different because people loosing modem baseband imei or network even just after flashing twrp or rooting P2.

After scouring the net for the last week or so to find a method of unlocking the SGH-T999L without either purchasing a box or an unlock code from a shady eBay dealer, I stumbled across an app that seems like I might do the job.
RegionLockAway by Chainfire seems to remove the network lock on this specific model, despite being designed for the Galaxy Note 3.
(original thread) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470551
Now, I've tried this on my phone, and as I said before, it seems to have removed the network lock on my SGH-T999L, but only partially. I am no longer bothered for an unlock code when booting the phone with an AT&T or MetroPCS SIM card inserted, and my account details assigned to the SIM cards are displayed under my phone's settings. The issue is that I cannot seem to connect to any networks.
I don't know if this will lead to anything, but I just felt like sharing this little tidbit of information with you guys. If anyone else would like to try this out and post results, I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated by the community. Hopefully this gets us one step closer to unlocking this bastard of a phone with minimal effort.
P.S. If this is in the wrong section, feel free to move it, and I apologize.

Rooted sgh-t999L with stock 4.3... I just tried this in hopes of a network unlock as a side effect and it did not work. I ran it twice to make sure.
I am really tempted by the Find 7a, it looks decent on paper but I am reading a lot of things that are putting me off, can owners comment on their severity or if they are indeed problems?
Bluetooth - lots of reports that it is flaky. I can't live with this. I need a solid handsfree connection in the car, and preferably solid audio out too. Is this a software problem or did they put crappy hardware in it?
Battery - plenty saying the battery drains like 30% overnight in standby. This is not good. Is it resolved in Color OS 2.x beta? Any better in CM?
Storage - oh man. Why did they do that? Way to cripple a phone.
ROMs - I know they are pretty open with an unlocked bootloader but I am not seeing much in the way of ROM development. It's pretty quiet over here and their forums aren't exactly buzzing with developers.
How is the state of CM11 on the 7a? Does it fix any of the issues mentioned above?
Any general comments on the handset? Is it worth the punt or in that price range better to go for something more established like a Nexus 5 or LG G2?
Thanks
C
I think I can answer all your questions as I'm involved with parts of the 7a third party development myself.
First off, the hardware is fine and top notch, all the things you read about are in software and resolved by installing nameless ROM (all of the things you mentioned).
The battery depletion overnight (8 hours) is about 3 to 4 percent on nameless ROM with Wi-Fi and 3g permanently on and NFC off.
The storage issue can be resolved by executing my partition tool which you can find on the official oppo forums together with the nameless ROM download.
As for your intention of using cm11, I would stay away from it, it takes forever to get things fixed on that and some things are still glitched on it.

Thanks @MrColdbird that is really useful info. Good to know the hardware isn't at fault.
Nameless ROM looks great and good to see some solutions to the crazy partitioning scheme. I assume you guys will be releasing Nameless for the OnePlus One too?! The One seems to have a minor hardware upgrade compared to the Find 7.
One last thing, I know it is personal preference but how do you find the size of the device, there is no getting away from the fact that it is pretty huge...?
Agreed about CM11 - they seem really slow at fixing things these days, perhaps they are trying to support too many devices and spreading themselves too thinly. They seem to fix one thing and break about a dozen more with each M release.
I am on AT&T and currently Viper ROM ... I have pretty much been a little disappointed in the overall cellular reception of my HTC10 since I got it (compared to my Nexus 6 - which I wasn't thrilled with it's reception -- but the HTC10 is worse!) The N6 reception was pretty modem or radio dependant.
I'm currently on the 1.53 firmware --- has anyone else had a better experience in a different radio or modem (on AT&T) ?
Does the 1.55 ROM have a different firmware and especially radio ??
I am on stock 1.53, use AT&T and have no complaints about service at all. It has been better than my S6 Active was.
Until people start a radio collection (They always have), you are kind stuck with whatever ones come with the ROMs. When they start posting them, then you can flash away until you find one that works better for you.

I guess, more importantly than the Rom, what is your baseband?
I know I live in a somewhat remote area but 90% of the time I've got good LTE service. But I have about a fifteen minute stretch of road that I drive where reception is really marginal (I even have a signal booster and external antenna for my car)
Pretty much most of this area with my HTC I have no service, where I rarely lost completely with the N6

With that said, thinking that I had flashed both bootloader and radio to 1.53, I looked here (see screenshot) and saw this number for my baseband..... The same number was listed in the download mode info screen (along with 1.53.....OS)
What do you have?

I have a completely broken LCD/Digitizer on an AT&T SM-G920A with photos I'd like to recover.
I acquired the Verizon variant, (SM-G920V) of what I believe to be the same exact model S6 in "Black Saphire."
I was wondering, rather than remove the screen assembly from the new SM-G920V, and try to install it on the potentially compromised housing of the broken SM-G920A (phone could have more internal damage than just a broken screen), could I simply pull the main board off the broken phone, and swap the old board into the new phone? Would it operate?
Phone has no water damage, it just sustained damage from a 40ft drop onto concrete.
I've read mixed things about different connections internally between variants, and I'd rather not find out after the fact- so I figured I'd ask anyone in-the-know before disassembling the new phone and breaking any adhesive for no reason.
Again, the goal here is to recover data off the old phone that I've had sitting in a drawer since 2015 when this happened. Also worth noting: Old phone doesn't seem to hold a charge, although it seemed to still have power when the accident happened. I don't see any backlight when I plug it in to a charger, and nothing happens when I plug it into USB on my computer in my attempts to access DCIM directory, so I'm assuming it's not getting power or the broken screen assembly prevents it from booting.
Photos of the evidence, took additionals of the damaged phone to show the extent of it:

I don't have this device but, I do know that this won't work for those 2 specific variants Motherboard/Mainboard.
The 2 does look like they're the same (even with the same connectors) but, the LCD Mid Frames are different.
For example... If you tried to place the G920V board in the G920F frame, the board will stick out too much and you would not be able to assemble it.
I believe that the Motherboards between the G920F and the G920I are Interchangeable though I'm not sure about every variant.
My opinion would be (within a few other options) to look on ebay (or elsewhere if you like) for a G920A that's physically in great shape with a locked, damaged, etc... Mainboard/Motherboard.
This would reflect a lower price and all you would have to do is swap your current board in that one and you should be good to go.
You can even save the remaining parts of the other G920A in case you needed the Daughter Board or something else in the future.
I always recommend the ifixit.com website for awesome guides (with Pictures too!) and other great, device specific, resources as well.

Now I'm glad I didn't try! Thank you, your tip saved me a headache.
I've been wondering how it could be that T-mo could get such an extensive 5G network up so quickly? Then today while perusing through my phone I came across this sweet little nugget.
Spoiler: Fake it til ya make it!!!

This explains the slowing of older 4G devices on T-mo's network. They're just pushing more bandwidth over 4G to "special devices" and making a grip on suckers like us buying into "5G". Same thing ATT did with an icon change, but ours is baked in.
Someone doesn't seem to know how NSA works. Your screenshot even shows NR-RSRP with NR-SNR.

It only shows true when 5g data is being actively used.
It only registers it when in active use because of the fact that 4g is the default default when it comes to most phone functions.
Texting, phone calls, mms all go through 4g.
You can also verify that whole deal through my LTE configuration in the screenshot.

Gotta remember, it wasn't too long ago that people thought granting permission for internal storage would end up with their info gone or some other semi-sensationalist dribble.
This was the same way with early 4G phones. The first gen 4G radios used HSDPA+ which late gen 3G radios would connect to, but not fully utilize. How products and services are marketed are always divorced from what they really are, they won't outright lie, but they take advantage that the average customer won't read the fine print, are not engineers, and would complain to bbb(where ratings are bought) and never think about complaining to the FCC. The radio in my n10 pulls 10+ mbps consistently, no LTE branded radio I've had would get better 5 mbps. It's clearly using hardware that, for example my One+ 6T, does not have. According to xml's found in vendor partition, and info from system/vendor props Qualcom engineers have it classified as LTE, T-MOBILE marketing calls it 5G. Labels aside, network performance suggests this device has upgraded hardware. If your not impressed, try disabling ipv6 in your APN, and /proc/net/ipv6 files. You need root/adb anymore to do this. I attest to dramatic differences in network performance as it bypasses some network throttling. I don't know about you, but I waste the 30 gig throttle limit the first two days on the new radio.
