E-sim plus nano sim - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Has anyone tried running a nano sim with a phone setup on project fi with an esim? I'm wondering if it works.

Yes, I have a T Mobile SIM and Project Fi esim and it's pretty convenient. You can only have one carrier active at a time, but just go to Mobile networks in settings then carrier and you can switch between the SIM and esim. I have the Fi calls and texts forwarded to the T Mobile number, but you can switch between them without even restarting the phone.

^great to know!
Google is pressuring the outdated Carriers t get onboard...

Thanks! I went ahead and tried it. Same results as you. Would be nice to have dual sim support but at least I can swap services when the signal is bad.

Jio 4G Sim OnePlus 3; Not Conecting to internet.

So I got a LYF phone and Jio Sim with unlimited offer for 3 months. Works fine in my LYF phone.
I popped this sim in my OP3 and downloaded all the JIO apps. It even says VoLTE on the top. I'm logged into MyJio and JioJoin. It just wouldn't connect. The exclamation mark in the network bar wont go. And a notification that says 'Sign in to network; Jio 4G'. When I click on this notification it opens a webpage saying that I've exhausted my balance. I've read a lot of peoples' posts that Jio is in fact working on OP3.
Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong? I've even tried to reset my apn as to how it tells in the SMS.
My OP3 isn't unlocked and rooted.
The sim that you have is locked to the LYF phone and wouldn't work on any other phone (except some Samsung phones)
Only the sim phone tied to a Samsung device would work on your phone, afaik. SIM tied to LYF phone won't work on any other device.

I have a Jio connection which I took in May. After the 3 months they made the connection free to use with any other mobile. The speed I get is just amazing.
If u getting the sim for a Samsung mobile.. U need to use it with the Samsung phone and activate the preview offer. If not, there are many work arounds tutorial available on YouTube. I was able to activated a new sim with that work around.

Switching between the esim and standard sim

Has anyone activated the xl 2 or 2 on fi with the onboard esim and then switched service to a say, verizon sim? Can you switch back and forth easily? Thanks!
?Tapped from my pure pixelXl?
I had Fi on the esim and an AT&T physical sim for a while on a Pixel 2 (I then factory reset for other reasons). It was very easy to switch back and forth. Just go to mobile networks > carrier and choose service.

E-sim is the future! The Carriers need to get on board!
You can switch between eSIM and physical SIM by dialing *#*#794824746#*#*
This worked for me when going from eSIM Fi to SIM Fi.

eSim T-Mobile

Hello everyone, Just would like to know if anyone tried to activate their Pixel 3 XL eSim on T-Mobile? If it's possible, do I need to have a physical sim from a different carrier? Will eSim work overseas when roaming? Thanks

I was able to activate my esim on tmobile when people were going through the 'back door' method of not ever mentioning that they want to activate the esim. There has been threads on Reddit that they are no longer allowing that and that customer service is catching on and no longer allowing activations of esim on tmobile.
You do not need another physical sim from another carrier as your phone will work fine with just tmobile esim. Having that physical sim available will allow you to pretty much go with any other secondary carrier that you want to (just can't use both at once)
As far as the overseas when roaming, that I have to defer to as I don't (or haven't) traveled overseas yet. I would 'imagine' that it would work just as if you had a physical sim in your phone as many European carriers already use esim and is not a new technology over in the European countries.

Did you notice any difference in the signal reception? Is it the same as the physical sim, better or no different? Thanks

I haven't noticed any difference in signal.
After 5 or 6 times trying using different methods (Twitter, FB, app/site chat, etc.), I finally convinced a rep to activate my eSIM a couple of days ago. It does take some massaging to get them to agree to it. Most of the time I was told there wasn’t a way to activate on postpaid. In the end, I experienced faster loading times on sites and faster downloads my video and podcast apps.

Dual SIM support, is it possible?

Can anyone try to enable dsds using *#*#4636#*##. DSDS is dual SIM support, using physical and e Sims, I don't have 2 SIM cards. So maybe one should try and confirm if it works or not.
I have Fi esim and Verizon. Everything works ?.
Good to know this works. Has anyone been able to get an esim activated on Verizon? I have two Verizon lines and would love to use both on my Pixel 3aXL. Verizon chat tells me they only activate esim for iPhones.

eSIM on S20+

Hi All,
I just took delivery of the S20+
Mine came with 1 esim, 1 dedicated simcard slot (SIM1)and 1 simcard/sdcard (SIM2) hybrid tray.
went ahead to sign up for esim for the network i use most often.
Now, i have a question. What happens if i factory reset the phone. will the esim "profiles" remain or do i need to drop by the network provider and request another esim activation code?
This is because i have the habit of performing a factory reset on my android phones after a major firmware update, or every 6 months (or if i feel the phone feel sluggish).
Any idea guys? i cant seem to find information on this anywhere. is the esim data stored on the phone data or in the esim itself.
aah.. found it.. if you go to the setting to factory data reset, at the bottom there is a checkbox to select if you want to retain the esim. tick if you do not want to.. and it is unticked by default (keep your esim data)
Apparently the unlocked US version don’t have eSIM?

My unlocked S20+ didn't come with a sim card. I used the Verizon sim card from my S9+ in it. Works perfectly. If you go to Verizon and ask for a sim card for your new phone, they charge you like $40 for activation. I paid nothing.

U can check it out on your phone settings.
Go to settings - connections - SIM card manager.
If your device has esim, you will see SIM cards section and a Esim section.
I attached how mine looks like. View attachment 4967275

That doesn't show up on my unlocked S20+ 5G US variant
That's pretty neat having both hybrid and esim.
Essentially you could have 1 esim and sim card plus sd card.
I've ordered mine from Vodafone hope it has the same options.

vodafone UK doesnt support esim on their phones yet (and they didnt sound keen on changing that soon) which is crazy but i think they are afraid people will start using dual networks and they're not happy about that
Glad I bought S20 plus rather then waiting for the ultra version.
More sleek and practical.
Vodafone phones come with esim option also for those who might be wondering.

Nope. Only 2. But u can have both sims and registered esim profile in the phone but at any time only 2 can be active.
To be precise only esim and sim1 or sim1 and sim2. Sim2 can't be used together with esim.

I bought an S20 plus from Samsung and on the box there are two IME numbers. Just one IME is showing in settings. Does this mean it is software disabled? If so I wonder when, and if, the will activate it.

Will be useful to know which variant of s20+ you have there. Samsung released many variants.
Single sim
Dual sim
Dual sim with esim
This 3 in 4g and 5g.
Mine is 4g dual sim with esim.
Sm-g985f/ds
Sim2 slot shares same imei with esim.
So I'm using sim1, microsd card and an esim.
Imei won't show up on settings unless it's active. As in having a sim card in slot 2 or esim profile on.
If u don't have esim set up you'll only see the add mobile plan option if your phone supports esim.

It could be for the esim. Try going to settings - connections - sim card manager.
Can you screen shot and share here the page? If your phone has esim support, it would show there.
It should look something like this attachment.

Esim is what I was be referring to. Apologies if I wasn't clear on that. And no there is no sim card manager. The two IME numbers tell me it is capable of it at least. It's just not turned on
