Hi,
I'm having trouble getting back from a KitKat Rom to an JB or ICS ROM.
I'm getting stuck with the firmware. It's flashing OK (I've tried several different ones), but when I boot up and try to get into CWM it just sits there on the firmware logo (e.g. the LUPUS logo, or the Rush logo).
Is there something fundamentally stopping me going back to an ICS or JB firmware, after I've previously had KitKat running?
HELP
Oh, this is the Kitkat ROM I originally installed, and it's included kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2570072
If I flash that kernel again, I can get into Kitkat successfully, no problem at all.
As above, if I flash any other kernel, I just can't get into CWM.

You can flash stock ICS firmware using Flashtool, then flash a JB custom kernel with a recovery. From there, use the recovery to flash a JB ROM.

Thanks for your reply.
What is the need for flashing an ICS kernel first?
I'll give it a go, but flashing a custom ICS kernel with a recovery I've been unable to get into CWM.
I'm probably doing something really stupid.

Flashing ICS is recommended first since this will restore you phone's memory partitions. KK uses different memory partitions to make it run properly. This will also wipe your phone's data and allows you to do a clean install that should eliminate most errors that you encounter during ROM installation.
Ok, thanks so much for the advice
I'll give it a go and let you know how I get on!
Ok, I'm back on Gingerbread stock firmware
Android v2.3.4, Build 4.0.2.A.0.62.
I can't find an ICS based FTF file - everything is either 404 or on hotfiles, which is dead.
I've unlocked the bootloader (which I thought I'd already done, but maybe the flash of the firmware undoes that?)
Not sure where to go from here.

i have E988 india E98810E version, i have rooted and installed CWM via freegee.(only recovery installed no LG Security bypass)
I was able to flash roms based on CM or AOSP based but when i try flashing any Rom based on stock then recovery gives me a message of success within 3 seconds and no luck with flashing (Still at old Rom).
I tried with TWRP also but no luck any idea why is this happening ?

Have you tried flashing the stock rom from your stock back up? I have not been able to flash a stock based rom from cm or aosp. Give that a try
Hello, I recently just updated my Rogers SGH-i317M to 4.3, which then downloaded a system update which put it at 4.4. I was running Jedi X20, which is based on 4.1.2, when I first tried updating, I flashed the "4.3param_tz" file in odin, and was left with an error screen saying I need to recover using Kies, so I downloaded the official release, flashed via odin, and thats how I got to where I am now. I want to try the "Ditto Note 3" rom, "Sky Note Air 4.3", "Mean Bean" and "Beanstalk". My main question is, can I just start flashing these roms like I was before on 4.1.2, or do I need to use the specific kernel listed on their page? Before you needed a specific kernel to run a touchwiz rom or an aosp rom, so is it still the same? Or can I use my stock 4.4 kernel and try both aosp and tw roms now? If so could you point out the kernels I would need? And educate me on anything else I should know about before flashing 4.3 and 4.4 roms, (I'm not worried about warranty), this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time in reading this and helping me out, much appreciated!!
Regardless of where u are, I'd Odin to Rogers stock KK 4.4.2. Then Odin Twrp recovery, boot into twrp recovery and flash SU v.1.99. Finally choose your rom and flash away. This way you are on the lastest KK 4.4.2 Bootloader and KK Modem/Baseband.

I did all that except flash SU 1.99, so I tried flashing SKynote Air and it didnt work, upon restarting my phone it said no os is available. So I tried restoring from the backup I made of the official 4.4.2 Samsung rom in twrp, didn't work. Tried Odin, didn't work. Then I tried flashing the Skynote rom again and it worked. So I'm afraid of flashing any other roms now.

New Phone, Who dis?
Hello, Huskied here, And I am requesting help installing this Nougat safely on this Galaxy S4 on T-Mobile.
Keep in mind, This is still on 4.4.4 KitKat, Haven't installed an update just yet, unrooted, and it's a SGH-M919 type.
Build Number KTU84P .M919UVUFNH7
any help would be appreciated.
Here's what I would do:
Flash the latest stock ROM from Sammobile.com with Odin;
Flash twrp for the m919;
Save the rom and appropriate gapps to the phone's internal storage or sdcard; and
Flash the custom ROM, flash gapps, reboot.

Thank you. And one more thing, Some ROMs require LP Bootloader. Where can I get that?
Flashing the latest stock ROM will give you the latest bootloader.

Tried today, Couldn't find any stock ROM for the jfltetmo. Found a bootloader that's supposed to boot the ROM I would like, Failed and could only boot into recovery until I restored 4.4.4.
Any thoughts?
If the phone baseband is running these latest fok3 ROM, that is the newest bootloader for the phone as indicated here: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s4/SGH-M919/TMB/
Btw, that nougat in the original is not for the m919 so don't flash it as it may hard brick phone.
