I have been using Fire TV Stick with remote on my android phone. I reset the stick to factory default as I felt it was running a bit slow. After the reset, it is asking me to press Home button on the remote. I have not used the actual remote in a long time as I always use the app to control. Now, it is not responding to remote even after I changed 3 different sets of new remote batteries. On the app, it can not find the Fire TV Stick.
Any ideas, please?
SOLVED:
needed to reset the remote by holding Menu (three lines)+ Back (the one to the left of home button) + left arrow (on navigation circle) for 10 seconds. Then disconnect the power from Fire TV stick for 30 seconds and then restart.

I have an Amazon Fire TV stick. I plugged it into the HDMI port. I tried using the port on the TV and the port on the Set Top Box. On both of them I go to the remote, I press TV Input at the bottom of the remote, by repeatedly pressing TV Input I am able to get to HDMI 1 and HDMI 2. But I'm unable to select either HDMI port. I tried pushing OK/Enter and TV Input again. It doesn't work. How do I fix this?
I have VZ P265v2 RC
and Motorola QIP7232 set top box
The power is fine.
When I have the TV monitor plugged into the SetTopBox, On the screen I see "Verizon press menu to watch FIOS TV ..."
I press "TV Input" on the remote and I see Tuner, Composite, HDMI1, HDMI2, VGA, VGA Component
By repeatedly pressing "TV Input" I navigate to the option I want (Tuner, Composite, HDMI1, HDMI2, VGA, VGA Component)
If I just stay at HDMI1 or HDMI2 it doesn't seem to select it, and the FireTV stick doesn't start. I have the stick plugged into the USB so the power should be fine. Is there a way for me to confirm that. There is no little LED or anything. I played with the FireTV remote, but got no response.
This also happens if I press Menu to go to FIOS TV and then press TV Input.
Then I unplugged the set top box from the TV (so it's a "dumb" monitor). Then I followed the instructions below. Still no success. I have a "no signal" message on the tv screen.
Instructions which didn't help, yet
1. Remove Fire TV Stick from TV HDMI Port, just make sure TV is off
2. Unplug power source from Fire TV
3. Wait 15 minutes
4. Turn on TV
5. Plug in power source to the Fire TV Stick then insert to prefer HDMI 1 or 2 or 3
6. Press any button on the Fire TV remote, wait 30 sec on each input until you see the picture on the screen.

Use the Original TV Remote
I called Verizon, the tech told me to switch to HDMI1 using the remote that came with the TV (not the Verizon remote). That worked.
I have a firestick plugged into a 42 inch lg tele. The stick has always worked on hdmi socket 1. Went to use tonight and all of a sudden it's saying no signal on screen. Checked the power that's working, why is it saying no signal???

Maybe went to "sleep", did you press the round button on your firestick remote?
BTW if this doe not work unplug power cord and plug it back in.
Try the following with your Samsung TV: On the TV, go to Menu, System, and then General. Locate the tab called "Game Mode" and turn Game mode "ON". (Most games are connected thru HDMI and changing this setting apparently enables theses ports better access to the Fire TV Stick) After you have the stick connected and setup properly and have actually used it, you may actually be able to turn off the Game mode and have it work properly. Good Luck!!
I was just able to get what seems to be the last fire tv in amazons surplus through their prime now app. I set it up everything went fine then I clicked to update it and it did the normal update process until I looked up and saw a black screen. I unplugged the unit and replugged it and now all I get is amazon logo then black screen. Is there anyway to fix this I was really excited about having the last fire tv. Something I just discovered is that I can still connect wirelessly to the unit via adb.. I just restarted it. I dunno if this can help anything.

To fix the black screen/blank screen, we use the following steps to troubleshoot it:\
Your FireTV went to sleep and you just need to wake it up. You can wake up your FireTV by pressing the “Back” button on the remote.
Try the Fire TV Remote Shortcuts to see if one of them will wake up your Fire TV.
On the [easyazon_link identifier=”B00NO8JJZW” locale=”US” tag=”arizonacaorg-20″]Fire TV Remote[/easyazon_link], hold the REVERSE (or “rewind”) button and the UP button at the same time for 10 seconds. Your FireTV should start switching through the different video display modes (or resolutions). You can expect the light on your TV to change colors and/or blink. When it switches to a display resolution that works, press the SELECT button to select that mode. This will fix your display issue if your fireTV happens to be set to a video resolution not supported by the TV you have it plugged into.
Your FireTV needs to be reset to the factory default settings. To do this, press BACK and REVERSE and RIGHT and SELECT to get your FireTV to prompt you to do a factory reset.
Your FireTV is deceased. If you tried #1 and #2 above, perhaps your Firestick has perished.
You could be forcing a screen resolution such as [easyazon_link identifier=”B00V0923TG” locale=”US” tag=”arizonacaorg-20″]1080p[/easyazon_link] 60Hz. Try changing the display settings back to Auto, No Scaling (by hooking the FireTV to a [easyazon_link identifier=”B01CF3L3RS” locale=”US” tag=”arizonacaorg-20″]TV[/easyazon_link] that it’s known to work on).
Press SELECT & PLAY (Hold the buttons down for 5 or 10 Seconds) to restart your FireTV / firestick.
I hope it will help you out.
I have set up some fire tv sticks (stock, non-root) with the latest kodi + llama and IP TV. Works pretty well so far. But there is a big problem: often the streams keep running if accidentally the home button is pressed and the fire tv stick got back to homescreen. Even if you put the stick manually in "sleep mode" the stream keeps running in the background (you can her the audio on the tv speaker). How can I fix this?
You could try to set up a Llama rule: when KODI is running and HOME button is pressed then kill KODI.
Well, how to set it up in llama to detect home button press?
Try the following (LLama starts in german on my devices so my translation may not be exact but the meaning should be clear ):
1.) create a new Llama rule
2.) set a new condition for "KODI" but change the default value "is started or in foreground" to "is quit or in background"
3.) kill application "KODI"
What should happen here: as long as KODI runs regulary nothing because it is still in foreground but when the HOME button is pressed KODI should go to the background and here the Llama condition 2.) should be triggered and Llama has to 3.) kill KODI.
thanks for sharing your idea. I set up llama according to your suggestion but unfortunately it not work. The stream is still running in the background, even when you put the fire tv stick manually in sleep mode you can still hear the audio.
If you hold down the home button long enough from the amazon home screen, you'll get option to go to settings>applications>manage applications>kodi>force stop.

Well that works but pretty complicated and I am sure my kids won't do that always before they shut off tv.
I observed that on a Fire TV that problem not arises. But on the FTV stick it does. Something must be different with the sleep mode.
In firestarter go to settings and under "home button single click application" select "no action". It worked for me on a stick and fire tv. Ususally its set to FireTV home. I was able to replicate your issue on a stick and fire tv and setting the home button single click application to no action in the firestarter setting worked for me. But keep in mind that kodi will still be running in the background as its only paused. So if you double click home button from the amazon home screen you'll just go back to kodi on a paused screen. Kodi should always be turned off using it's power button or force closed from amazon app settings.
Hi,
How do I get past the fire tv setup screen (which says "press home button for 10seconds).
It's been a while since I had the stick and I have lost the remote control.
I wanted to clear all the clutter and apps ,so I formatted the stick...
Now it is not connected to wifi(to use my smartphone as a remote control like usual) and I don't have the remote.
Is there any other way to get past it?
TIA
I have old Fire tv stick with OS 5.2.7 without remote control, I have lost it . I used the app with my smartphone in the same network connected, but, I decided to reset my fire stick and after that I get message the device searching for remote control, and can not continue forward ...how can that be bypassed or something else to do to get it to work condition again
Hello, i have the same issue , did you manage to get it to work ?
You can always use a USB mouse to navigate the screen to get you back on WiF / re-enable the remote.
Once on WiFi your may be able to use the remote function of the FireTV Android app
Thanks i tried but it does only move the mouse and there us is nowhere to go on the screen to reach the settings
How about a USB keyboard. Then you'll have to experiment with key combinations to exit the screen.
Sometimes works with Android
Esc = Go Back
Ctrl+Esc = Menu
Alt+Tab and Alt+Shift+Tab = Switch Tasks
if you reset it and dont have it connected to wifi only way is to use a physical remote control for the first stage after that you can use hdmi cec or android remote control
