I was just able to get what seems to be the last fire tv in amazons surplus through their prime now app. I set it up everything went fine then I clicked to update it and it did the normal update process until I looked up and saw a black screen. I unplugged the unit and replugged it and now all I get is amazon logo then black screen. Is there anyway to fix this I was really excited about having the last fire tv. Something I just discovered is that I can still connect wirelessly to the unit via adb.. I just restarted it. I dunno if this can help anything.

To fix the black screen/blank screen, we use the following steps to troubleshoot it:\
Your FireTV went to sleep and you just need to wake it up. You can wake up your FireTV by pressing the “Back” button on the remote.
Try the Fire TV Remote Shortcuts to see if one of them will wake up your Fire TV.
On the [easyazon_link identifier=”B00NO8JJZW” locale=”US” tag=”arizonacaorg-20″]Fire TV Remote[/easyazon_link], hold the REVERSE (or “rewind”) button and the UP button at the same time for 10 seconds. Your FireTV should start switching through the different video display modes (or resolutions). You can expect the light on your TV to change colors and/or blink. When it switches to a display resolution that works, press the SELECT button to select that mode. This will fix your display issue if your fireTV happens to be set to a video resolution not supported by the TV you have it plugged into.
Your FireTV needs to be reset to the factory default settings. To do this, press BACK and REVERSE and RIGHT and SELECT to get your FireTV to prompt you to do a factory reset.
Your FireTV is deceased. If you tried #1 and #2 above, perhaps your Firestick has perished.
You could be forcing a screen resolution such as [easyazon_link identifier=”B00V0923TG” locale=”US” tag=”arizonacaorg-20″]1080p[/easyazon_link] 60Hz. Try changing the display settings back to Auto, No Scaling (by hooking the FireTV to a [easyazon_link identifier=”B01CF3L3RS” locale=”US” tag=”arizonacaorg-20″]TV[/easyazon_link] that it’s known to work on).
Press SELECT & PLAY (Hold the buttons down for 5 or 10 Seconds) to restart your FireTV / firestick.
I hope it will help you out.

I have an Amazon Fire TV stick. I plugged it into the HDMI port. I tried using the port on the TV and the port on the Set Top Box. On both of them I go to the remote, I press TV Input at the bottom of the remote, by repeatedly pressing TV Input I am able to get to HDMI 1 and HDMI 2. But I'm unable to select either HDMI port. I tried pushing OK/Enter and TV Input again. It doesn't work. How do I fix this?
I have VZ P265v2 RC
and Motorola QIP7232 set top box
The power is fine.
When I have the TV monitor plugged into the SetTopBox, On the screen I see "Verizon press menu to watch FIOS TV ..."
I press "TV Input" on the remote and I see Tuner, Composite, HDMI1, HDMI2, VGA, VGA Component
By repeatedly pressing "TV Input" I navigate to the option I want (Tuner, Composite, HDMI1, HDMI2, VGA, VGA Component)
If I just stay at HDMI1 or HDMI2 it doesn't seem to select it, and the FireTV stick doesn't start. I have the stick plugged into the USB so the power should be fine. Is there a way for me to confirm that. There is no little LED or anything. I played with the FireTV remote, but got no response.
This also happens if I press Menu to go to FIOS TV and then press TV Input.
Then I unplugged the set top box from the TV (so it's a "dumb" monitor). Then I followed the instructions below. Still no success. I have a "no signal" message on the tv screen.
Instructions which didn't help, yet
1. Remove Fire TV Stick from TV HDMI Port, just make sure TV is off
2. Unplug power source from Fire TV
3. Wait 15 minutes
4. Turn on TV
5. Plug in power source to the Fire TV Stick then insert to prefer HDMI 1 or 2 or 3
6. Press any button on the Fire TV remote, wait 30 sec on each input until you see the picture on the screen.
My post on the Verizon forum http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-T...t-HDMI-Amazon-Fire-TV-Stick/m-p/776546#M54911
Use the Original TV Remote
I called Verizon, the tech told me to switch to HDMI1 using the remote that came with the TV (not the Verizon remote). That worked.
I have a firestick plugged into a 42 inch lg tele. The stick has always worked on hdmi socket 1. Went to use tonight and all of a sudden it's saying no signal on screen. Checked the power that's working, why is it saying no signal???

Maybe went to "sleep", did you press the round button on your firestick remote?
BTW if this doe not work unplug power cord and plug it back in.
Try the following with your Samsung TV: On the TV, go to Menu, System, and then General. Locate the tab called "Game Mode" and turn Game mode "ON". (Most games are connected thru HDMI and changing this setting apparently enables theses ports better access to the Fire TV Stick) After you have the stick connected and setup properly and have actually used it, you may actually be able to turn off the Game mode and have it work properly. Good Luck!!
I'm having some problems with my fire tv 2. It is rooted and on the latest rom found in this forum. The problem is with my unrooted fire tv 1, whenever I need to turn it on I can just press the remote and it will power on. With this new fire tv, pressing the buttons will not turn it on and when I turn on the tv and try it, it won't turn on as well. Only a small chance that sometimes hitting the button would turn it on. The only way that I usually turn it on is through unplugging and replugging the power cord. Is this a common issue and is there a fix? Thanks.
No display from Fire TV
Background
The box was working perfectly.
I powered it off for a couple of weeks and when I attempted to use it again, it seems to power up, but there is no picture/menu/logo displayed.
Things I've tried so far:
1)Powered off and on again - no change. The light on front flashes normally and then stops flashing. No flickering/image on TV.
2)Pressed select "Select"+"Play" to reboot the box. I can see the LED go out and then come on again. No flickering/image on the TV.
3)Pressed "Up"+"Rewind" - I can see the LED on the AFTV change to orange and flashing for while, but again no image on the TV.
4)I can successfully ping the box from a PC.
5)I've disconnected all other HDMI cables from the TV and carried out all the tests above - no change.
6)I've disconnected the AFTV from the HDMI cable and replaced with a laptop - this works perfectly, I can use the TV from the laptop.
7)When the AFTV has gone to sleep/standby and the TV is switched off, pressing "SELECT" wakes up the AFTV and switches on the TV, but still nothing is displayed.
So it seems that the AFTV is functioning correctly and receiving commands from the remote, but it still refuses to display any image/picture/icon/menu, i.e. anything.
Any ideas? Something else I can try? Known problem? Can fixed by opening the box?
Thanks in advance
After a couple of years of happy usage last night, my Firestick 2nd gen, got stuck on the home screen, and is now unresponsive to both the selector button, as well as the restart routine, (Holding down select and Play/Pause at the same time until it restarts).
I did a couple of hard restarts by unplugging it, and then plugging it back in, and it went through the entire startup routine, including the red "fire TV"" startup logo, and then it opened to the same frozen unresponsive uncooperative (Like my ex wife) screen.
I tried another remote, and that did not work either.
Just to see what would happen I blocked it on my network, since wifi blocking will take you to the "home is unavailable" firestick screen, which it did, but once I got there, the "Go to network settings" and "dismiss" options were unresponsive as well.
I don't mind having to reset it if I have to, but so far I haven't come up with a way to make it work.
All help appreciated.

Have you tried a OTG with keyboard?
I have plugged the firestick into my desktop using a Micro USB to USB connector if that's what you mean, but even though it loads up and my "devices and printers" panel recognizes it as "MTP device" and the driver panel recognizes it as "ADB Device", no further info or control seems to be available.
So I guess it plugs in, but what should I do now?
Thanks.
An otg (on the go) cable and keyboard will give you control like a controller. You can try moving with the curser and enter. This would eliminate a Bluetooth issue when operating the remote.

Have you tried fresh new batteries in the remotes?
Maybe you can install the app Remote for Fire TV from the amazon website (with the option send to fireTV Stick) and use your smartphone as remote.
normally this is the problem i get when the battery of the remote die..
This appened to my firetv stick 2nd edition just now. It happens after I plugged it in a new tv color.
Any ideas or a solution founded?
Thanks in advance!!
Hi
My Amazon Fire TV cube (2nd generation) has suddenly STUCK in "ANDROID RECOVERY MODE". (see image)
Fire cube has blue light circling.
Options to “factory reset” / (or) “try again” are displayed, but am unable to select either option to execute command via cube buttons or remote.
Holding mute and volume down buttons for 60 seconds does NOT reset/restart
Unplugging device from power for 10 minutes does NOT change boot up status.
I do have a 3 port USB / ethernet hub attached to the cube.
Any guidance would be appreciated

Were you using adoptable storage? Not merely external storage that is accessed independently from internal storage, but rather external storage media adopted to act like internal storage?

No. I never got a reply. Amazon were hopeless, too. They had absolutely NO CLUE what I was talking about. Now out of warranty after just over a year. I can't believe there is no fix, though. I've got a 3rd gen version, now. It seems that Amazon deliberately updated the software to make it inaccessible, forcing you to buy a new one . I'm sure the geeks will discover a fix, though.
I have a Fire TV stick with the same issue. It looks like Amazon is using a tablet bootloader that navigates menus using the device's physical buttons. However, the Fire TV Stick DOES NOT HAVE physical buttons. You may be able to navigate your Fire TV Cube using these buttons, located on the device itself.
Your device is a no recovery at this point. I had this 2 weeks ago. The physical buttons on the cube don't work in that menu, best I could do was to get it to highlight "Try Again" by pressing and holding volume down. I couldn't get it to successfully choose either of those options. I even tried with a physical keyboard plugged in, no luck.

Thanks for the suggestion. However the cube buttons do not function under these circumstances. There is no official solution to this at this moment in time. Keyboard via usb adapter doesn't work either.

Thanks for posting. Amazon have been hopeless, their chat ops. are hopeless. No clue about this issue. There told me it's "out of warranty" offered me a 15% discount off a new one. It been a real waste of money for such limited use. I guess that's how they make money. I've read they repeatedly update the OS to make it impossible to access it.
Hi not sure if this will help buy I had the same issue with firecube Gen 3 will trying to add external storage and to be honest I got it fixed but not sure how as I was throwing everything at the issue and hoping something would work.what I did do was to use a method for fixing a firestick that's in a bootloop I connected a usb keyboard to the cube and just kept pressing the key combo (ctrl+alt+printscreen+menu+I) repeatedly I took a while but eventually a screen came up that an image of a firecube with the words no command under it from there it rebooted. Again not sure how I got it done but it worked for me

Would you please quantify "a while"? Approximately for how long did you smash the "ctrl+alt+printscreen+menu+I" key combination? Which keyboard key is "menu"?
Hi it took me about 15 to 20 minutes of pressing the key combos I'm guessing you have to get the timing right I will include a link to a YouTube video which works for a firestick in a boot loop that's what I did to get my cube working again

And I should have said when I pressed the combo buttons I just held them for about 30 seconds to a minute if nothing happened I released and pressed them again
