Audio issues. Video vs Standalone recording - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Hi.
In the discussions about the audio issues during video recording I heard some people mention that standard audio recording, outside any video app, using a dedicated audio recording app results in waaaay better audio. Could anyone confirm that it's only an issue during video recording? Samples of this would be appreciated. It will help me decide which size to get.

[Q][DISCUSSION] Best Video-Recording App?

Hey HOX users!
Which App do you think is the for recording video on the HOX?
The Sense-Camera makes videos which are quite OK, however the compression is way to strong and the framerate isn't good - as many discussions show.
Additionally, I've switched to CM9 (because of design, speed, battery, settings...), so I don't have the Sense-Camera anymore.
CM9's stock camera-app records bad video and crashes very often - I use Camera FV-5 for taking photos, and the quality is awesome
So there has to be a equal alternative for recording video!
Do you know good video-recorders, which do you use?
Greets
Unfortunately, there a next to no video recording apps for android because it has to be specifically designed for the camera.

Yeah, I noticed that too, very sad though :/
I think the HOX is capable of shooting really great Videos with 60fps @ 720p, if there was an app capable of using monster

Yes.. that app is the Camera.apk that comes with the Sense ROMs. The drivers and the app are very tightly intergrated. I doubt CM9 developers will ever develop something as good as HTC when it comes to that
you should use lgCamera, you got a free version "Lite" and a paid, "Pro"
you'll get 2 apps.. one camera and one video recording
with the camera, you'll get uncompressed pictures, they'll be ~4,5mb instead of ~1,5mb
with the video recorder, you can change:
Bitrate: HTC uses 11mbps and Galaxy S3 uses 17mbps for 1080p... with this app, you can set it up to 100mbps, but that's overkill, just put it at 20mbps (with this, you get smooth recording)
Sound quality: you can record stereo sound and max 320kbps with 48hz
record in 3gp or mp4 (mp4 will be played with hardware)

only record 720p? and double bitrate is 7mbps??
lgCamera is way better!
lgCamera doesn't work for me (and reading comments in GPlay, for many).
I see the buttons, but video feedback (viewfinder) is just black. When trying to record video, it says "Video recording failed".
So yeah...

[Q] HD Playback issue.

Is it just me or there's something wrong about playing HD videos on Nexus 7 2? It looks like "pixelated".
Well that certainly isn't HD video. This may be an issue with your internet than the actual device itself.

Thanks for the reply. I'm quite sure that's HD. I downloaded that video 1080p using IDM.

That isn't 1080p. I can assure you that. That has to be 320p.
I'll put a movie onto my Nexus that is 1080p and I'll see if it's like that tonight.
Is this the one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moSFlvxnbgk
It's 720p, and at certain points a bit pixellated with contours.

I do not see any pixels. It may be the download manager you are using or your stream. I've attached a YouTube image from my browser, along with my Nexus 7 screenshot for you.
I use Flash Video Downloader, which downloads the entire file directly, rather than copying a stream. I'm also watching it on a full-size PC monitor, so the larger and brighter pixels let me see where the video quality isn't that great. At certain points it's clear (pun intended) with the video. In fact, I just noticed it's only 1280x534. Sometimes I wonder if "HD" videos people upload were upscaled from DVD.
Take for example this still at 0:42, saved as PNG with zero compression. JPG at 100% has similar quality.
Anyway, if this is the video the person's talking about, even if he had great throughput and HD on, it's not 1080p.

Of the two screenshots you posted, the left has pixellation, and the second is contoured.

The left I can see pixels after a quick glimpse. My eyes are pretty bad but I do not see how the image on the right is contoured.
If it is what you say it is, then it's just an upscaled DVD rip and not actually blueray.

Can someone try watching a video like on youtube for example while on the phone?

I am having audio issues where it becomes choppy and unclear when i watch a video while talking on the phone. I only have this issue when i use my ear phones rather than speaker phone. Can someone please try doing this and provide feedback because i am not sure if it is a software issue or an issue with my phone

I did 4k and HD on youtube using app and from UC browser as well as Instagram. All is good while on phone albeit not HD or video calling.
Dash 1 phone, ear buds or speakerphone did not matter.

That is a not, dash 2.
So this may only apply to dash ? 2 phones.
How dees it play on phone calls that are not video or not HD?
It's still unclear and choppy especially at lower volumes, but this is only an issue when I use my earphones and watch a video while on talking on a regular phone call

My main issue is, the audio recording does not work on video recording. I did test with the latest 6.1 ported apk "GoogleCamera_6.1.009.215420794-beta2.apk" , but the problem persists. Sound works on Panaroma mode in the said app but no audio is recorded in the video files I record..
The microphone is fine. I tested it with footej camera and it does just fine. Stereo recording works.
Currently I am on the 5.2 port as it was installed seperately. I am attaching a logcat. please let me know if anything else is needed. Made a .zip file... it had become 4+ MB.
Edit: I got a log with the latest app. Sorry, forgive me for being a noob! Take a look at logcat2.zip :|

Hey Everything is working fine in my device with audio recording in video.
Have you set video quality to 4k for back and 1080p front?
Try clearing data of app and followed by setting don't forget to grant all permission to the app

Umm, I tried, didn't work. Audio works in panorama, not in video. I guess it has something to do with the audio source. Footej does not record audio with an audio source named "Audio source tuned for video recording" but does fine with the "default" setting.
I don't think its entirely a hardware issue though! :/
I've downloaded GCam from somewhere. I don't remember from where I downloaded it but everything works fine. Video Recording also works fine and also the camera quality is very good. I can provide you the link.

After September security patch update, the camera issue was fixed. It was due to a older build number. Currently Audio works in videos for Google Camera.
