Wifi keeps disconnecting.. - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Hi guys, I just got my pixel 2 xl today and it seems that I have a wifi connectivity issue. It keeps disconnecting me on my wifi and then connecting every few seconds. Anyone else having the same issues?

I experienced the same issue on my first day, however the next day it's gone. I had my new phone for 5 days and I haven't seen the wifi disconnect again!!! My Bluetooth was doing the same thing too but no more weird!!!!

change your router channel to a less congested one (or just a different one), this solved my problem years ago

You beat me to it! Another tip, if you have a router with DDWRT you can set a channel range it can switch on. Main reason I keep my old WRT600N in service!

Unable to connect over WiFi- faulty Orbit?

Have had several of the XDA family from the iis, exec,mini/s etc. Just got a nice Orbit from O2 and have spent literally hours attempting to get the damned thing to connect to my wireless router.
Never had an issue with the other XDA's, just enable SSID on the router, switch on the device wifi, when it sees the router, connect and enter the wep key. Hey presto, it works. Not this damned Orbit...
I do all the correct stuff, but what happens is that the key input notification goes, the wifi icon on the top line cycles for a few times and then just goes to the 'mast' icon. If you look at the available networks page, it shows the network as Unavailable!
Click on connect, it goes into a Connecting state, and then goes Unavailable again.
I have tried without any WEP security active (totally open netwok) and it does exactly the same. No setting on the 'performance' screen makes any difference.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? My home network is 802.3b (not g) ... I haven't tried another network yet as I know my router is working fine (my mini/s still connects OK). Is it perhaps a faulty Orbit?
Any suggestions welcomed.
Maybe the problem is that it doesnt have wifi? Or at least the MDA Compact 3 doesnt anyway
The Orbit has G Wi-Fi and it certainly sounds faulty. Have been able to try connecting to any other networks?
WiFi solution
I had exactly that problem and I solved it by changing the channel on the wifi router. Some channels seem outside the Orbits reception range. Change it a few times until you hit the jackpot.
Did you change the energy options (from balanced to high performance)?
Without this setting my wifi doesn´t work at all...

Yep - done that. In fact, I have tried all 11 channels on my router with WEP both on and off. Still no-go.
What occasionally happens is that it will 'see' my wifi SSID (and that of my neighbours), but after a short while both networks go into an Unavailable state on the 'available networks' screen.
I have made a connection TWICE (both with WEP 128bit security, and each time on Ch11) - showing very low signal strength each time. The connection will survive for no more than 30 seconds and then drop out, never to reconnect!
It's doing my damned head in. Never had an issue with any of my previous wifi devices - I can only assume that there is a fault with the wifi radio section... its only 4 days old so will need to get an exchange from O2 then...
It was definitely a faulty Orbit!
Issue resolved.
Got O2 to exchange my Orbit for a new replacement.
WiFi working 100% now, and all as expected. I did nothing different in the setup of the new one - my only conclusion is that it was most definitely faulty.
So, for some use if anyone has the same kind of problem (and bothers to use the search facility), if your WiFi is 'deaf' and cannot see your router or won't stay connected, then suspect a faulty device.
Sigh - updated to O2's WM6 rom and now the damned wifi is stuffed again.
Anyone got any suggestions? This thing is driving me nuts. Is there an updated radio firmware that fixes the poor wifi or is it a hardware issue?
I had this little snag (OR BIG ONE) when Purchasing a Belkin 54g Wireless Router, slightly different scenario since you're Router hasnt changed, What I proceeded to do was delete all the detected wifi network even my own and try wifi enumeration again, This solved the particular problem that I had,
whew!
My heart almost stopped when I read trap's 'faulty hardware' post!
I have EXACTLY the same problem... and EXACTLY the same hardware (belkin54g, wm6 on an O2 Exec).
The router was a freebee, so I am going to just go grab a old Trendnet and give it a go.
...keep you posted... but I think a re-flash is probably going to have to happen. Anyone know any stable wm6 roms?
No luck. The Trend does the same thing.....
Hunting around on the forums here I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=251969
Sounds like we have an wm6 that is incompatible to with 'g' s
I am having the same issue - what was once working is now not. I have a Belkin Wireless router, which my XDA has had no issues talking with ... however now, I just get 'Unavailable' on the XDA when I try and connect! Madness!
OK - after days of pulling my hair out, it has suddenly started working. To be fair I think that it has little to do with the XDA and more to do with the Belkin Router. I changed numerous things and suddenly it started working again, sorry I cannot offer any more help!

Nexus 5X can't find any wifi network

So I bought a Nexus 5X 2 days ago. When I first started the phone it was running Android 6.0.0 and it didn't have issues. But a update for 6.0.1 showed up and I downloaded it. And then the issues came. It cannot find any wifi network... The problem isn't from my network, because every other device finds my home network and all the neighbors network, but the 5X doesn't find any... I tried factory reset, network reset, cache reset, nothing helped. I even tried Android N beta and for a moment it fixed the issue, but this morning the wifi problem occurred again. I sign out from the N beta and through Mobile network it managed to download the last stable version(that's what google is calling it) - 6.0.1 and the problem was still there.. after some restarts of the phone and some factory resets, i thought the problem was gone, because it managed to find every wifi network in the area, but after i used the phone for 25-30 minutes, the wifi problem occurred again and ever since... So, is this a common issue with the phone, or the android 6.0.1, or is my phone a defected one? Should I go to the store and ask for a replacement? Or will the next phone do the same thing ?

Hi something similar happened to my 5X (6.0.1). It was able to find wifi network but I was not able to use internet even-though internet was working for other devices. I have restarted phone but my phone stuck in to WIFI Obtaining IP address...
I have restarted my router and problem resolved. Happened two times. Might be some bug in software.
I'm currently facing this very same issue, no WIFI networks are showing up. I've already flashed latest N preview with same results, funny thing is that this morning was working just fine. But I had to reboot the phone and now it won't detect any WIFI Network at all.
I'm starting to think I have a failed unit, but since I'm outside the "US" I can't send it back for warranty repair. So I'll just keep it and keep restarting until it's fixed again. This is really frustrating, never happened to me with any device I owned before.

Is it every wifi or just your wifi?
If it is just your wifi, try factory resetting your router after recording the settings, or try removing some entries that my be using NVRAM.
I've seen cases where the router runs out of NVRAM to record the DHCP entries and that causes connection issues. It doesn't show up for other devicdes because their entries are already stored in NVRAM. It is just the incremental new device you add that triggers the problem, so you naturally think the problem is with the new device since all your other devices work with the router.
my solution for wifi not found/working
i´ve upgraded from the nexus 5 to 5x.
i had a really weird issue with my wifi.
only found my wifi when i was not in airplanemode. so i read 1000 of articles about the wifi of the n5x.
just the standard blabla. so i did my own research
while my n5 and my n7 + 2 laptops had never issues my new 5x didnt find my wifi. i really thought it was an hw-issue. but it wasnt.
i am using a fritzbox router. newest update, made a reboot, rebooted phone. nothing happened.
then i checked my wifi channels, set it to manually and instantly found my wifi. i really never expected that the channel got such a big influence. may be the latest update brought a bug for the wifi channels or the hw is just not capable of some channels, dunno. but this is what helped me and it was nowhere mentioned in any forum.
tl;dr
try to change your wifi channel of the router.
edit: btw i found the 5ghz while the 2,4ghz wifi didnt work. but i wanted the 2,4ghz wifi to work because of the short range of my 5ghz wifi.
atm i am on channel 8 and i got no problems with the 2,4ghz wifi network

I don't know about Europe, but usually in the US we only use channels 1,6,11 to prevent overlap.
This is because there is overlap in the channels so you can't really use the in between channels due to too much interference. If you are the only wifi transmission in your area it is fine to use any channel, but if there are others and they are using standard channels for no overlap/interference and you are using in-between channels, your signals are probably going to interfere with each other.
When everyone is using the set channels, then they can negotiate properly and everything works better. With overlapping frequency bands, the negotiation doesn't work well because your signal sometimes looks like noise to the other device.

Hi, thanks for your help but unfortunately it's every wifi... it just hangs on "Searching for Wi-Fi Network..." and stays there...
I already talked with LG and they asked me to send the unit for repair, but I'm no in the US anymore (I was for a short time of period and that's when I bought this phone). So that would not be an option, right now I'm only using 4G and trying to measure it, lol
Just another question, do you guys think I could use a WIFI external dongle through USB OTG? Could that be possible on the Nexus 5X?
Thanks for your help! :good::good:

Hi, thanks for the suggestion but the problem I'm facing it's with every wifi network around, not only mine.
I guess unit is defective, but could a simple reboot trigger this kind of behavior? This is strange, never happened on any device I've owned before. :crying:

WiFi disconnects

Hey guys,
Just got my OP3 2 days ago, a beast of a phone!
I have an issue with wifi connectivity. It keeps dropping me when the signal is less have half the icon on the screen. Then usually when I walk closer to my router, it reconnects, if not, then I have to manually do it.
Pretty annoying. Anyone have a fix?
Thanks!

change the internet protocol of your router to IPv4 only. The default is IPv4/IPv6..

Anyone else having WiFi randomly disconnect and reconnect?

I just got this phone yesterday and so far I just cannot get it to stay connected to my network. No other devices are having this problem. It basically just seems to constantly connect and disconnect from the wifi and also seems to constantly search for other connections as well. I've tried factory reset, cache clearing(which never works as it just red triangle error's me), reset the router, tried to change settings in phone itself but nothing seems to fix it and it's making it impossible to use at home. Anyone have any suggestions?
Same thing here. I went in and turned off all the wifi in battery power saving exclusions. Ain't been home long enough to try though.
I'm having this same issue! My prior daily (S9+) didn't have this issue, and my Pixel 2XL doesn't have this issue. I could be right next to the router and it still does this. Doesn't seem to matter if I'm at home, work, parents house, or a cafe, it still randomly loses connection. Same with my Gear S3. Just randomly loses connection. It's pretty annoying, and I hope they offer a software fix. Yes, I factory reset the phone and it still occurs.
I noticed this only with the 5 GHz band... I will contact LG about it today...
Yeah, I'm having the same issue. My router broadcasts both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz on the same SSID. Last I'd heard, Android wouldn't connect to 5 GHz in that circumstance, and my G7 appears to continue that trend.
But it still disconnects from the network all the time.
Sadly I have the same issue. I have different SSID for 2.4 and 5Ghz band, and as devil_tear says it's fails only with the 5ghz band. I did a factory reset but issue stills there.
Did you found a fix for this issue?
Had the same problem. Solved by enabling wifi on the battery saving power exclusions in the battery menu.

Thanks a lot for this tip.
Had the same problem, was burning through my 4G data at a rate much faster than on my Google Pixel.
So far, adding wifi to the power saving exclusion has seemed to fix the issue. Thank you!
PS: Does any else find the wifi signal on this phone is weak?

Great suggestion
Tried the suggestion here for adding WiFi to exclusion. WiFi on 5ghz still disconnects and reconnects every few seconds. Only way to keep it connected is putting it on 2.4ghz.
Tried the suggestion with reboots, factory reset, adding WiFi to exclusion and then connecting to the network. My g7 will just not work with it.

Have seen this also, in my case it happens when I am a bit far from the router, it may be the router not having a strong stable connection so the phone see it doesn't have internet. In the points I experience that I have a 5Ghz connection of 0-2Mb but I have maybe 2 bars of connection. Share your opinions to try to understand the problems.

For me I would say it happens more if I have 2-3 bars but nonetheless it happens even 3ft away from the router eventually. what's odd is my note 5 stays connected, my computer, and other phone stay connected on the 5ghz band. All these devices are in the same location so I'm pretty dumbfounded especially considering this is a newer phone than the note 5 lol. I hope it can be fixed with an ota update

I have the same issues. I sent back the first phone for a replacement thinking it was the issue. When the second phone arrived it was working perfectly and then it happened again.
I noticed this happened after I took whatever software update was offered. I went as far to switch providers with different equipment (fibe to cable) but same result.
Made specific 2.4ghz SSID for LG G7 and no issues.
I've never seen this happen. And my laptop and LG are using the same 5 ghz signal.
I think I remember the G6 doing this though

Just came back from my dad's house and I know it's a short test, however he has an Archer a7 connected after his dedicated provided box. I wonder if that can fix the issue?
I have the same issue.
it connects to 2.4Ghz networks fine but the range is very limited when I move to another room wifi reception decreases a lot. However my wife`s S9+ and my oneplus 6 works fine.
Main problem is when I connect to 5Ghz network it starts disconnecting and reception is even worse than 2.4Ghz. S9 and Oneplus connection is still fine at 5Ghz
I tried to change the 5ghz channels on the router but no luck and I exclude the WIFI from battery saving apps still didn`t work.
I have to use 2.4Ghz and the reception is not as good as other phones
Wifi seems stable for me, except wifi calling. That would crash at connection or even mid-call sometimes. I'd have to reboot to make or receive another call. Some sort of server error. Turned off wifi calling and no issues yet. Didn't notice Ed it anyway since 4g is really strong here.
After the newest update on my phone, taken today Oct 4th, 2018/my random WiFi disconnects haven't been happening at all on 5ghz. Also, the signal is about 3 bars larger now in the same location it used to be dropping out constantly. Hopefully it stays this way.

I was coming in to report something similar. I've got the US T-Mo version and just got the G710TM10K update yesterday.
WiFi stability has massively improved. Disconnects are almost completely nonexistent now. I haven't noticed that the signal bar is behaving any differently, but that doesn't mean a whole lot. The update was fairly large (over 400 MB), so I could see new firmware playing a role.
Could anyone still on G710TM10G post their data from Software Info to check if the baseband has been updated? Here's mine from 10K:
Android Version: 8.0.0
Android Security Patch Level: September 1, 2018

Wi-Fi drops for a split of a second

I have the 7T for about a week now and it's really a fantastic smart phone.
The only problem for me now is that the Wi-Fi seems to drop for a split of a second (which disconnect me from online games, such as COC) then it's OK again, the Wi-Fi icon on the status bar disappear for a second and then appear again.
The problem is really annoying and could happen for several times for a few minutes and has this happening both in my home and in my work, I guess this is not a router issue.
I turned off the battery optimizations features (adaptive battery and sleep standby optimization) and also some Wi-Fi features (such as intelligently select the best Wi-Fi and auto switch to mobile data)
My phone is updated with the latest Oxygen OS 10.0.6
Any idea?
No,
But I have the exact same issue, I’m hoping it’s a ROM issue that will be fixed as no other devices in my network have problems.
I have noticed this only when connected to 5 ghz channel. I'm using a TP link router with ACT broadband and wherever I have faced this issue apparently all the places have the same router.
My thread on the community : link
The screen recording of when it happens.
I have ubiquiti AP'S with 2.4 and 5ghz (connecting at 5ghz) and which are rock solid normally and certainly with all my other gear.
I'll take a look at your thread. Thanks.
Same issue for me too. Just got the 7t a couple days ago
Damn, I just ordered a 7T and I'm hoping it works well. I had a 6T, using here on T-Mobile in the States, and it would drop the LTE connection quite often. It would reconnect automatically in a second or two, but it was super annoying and I ended up sending it back. I know this thread is about Wi-Fi but it brought back memories. I'm hoping these phones don't have issues with the modem or something.
Dont wanna sound selfish, but im glad im not the only one with this problem. Still dont know what is the issue
More info
Seems that the problem occurred only when I'm not close to the router (although the signal seems to be OK) and the Wi-Fi switch from the 5 to the 2.4 ghz and then from 2.4 to 5 ghz continuously.
My home router uses the same SSID for the 5 and 2.4 ghz network, I tried to disable the 5 ghz just for testing, but I could not do this as my router is managed by my ISP.
After system update to 10.3.0.HD65AA problem seems to be solved, although WiFi is not mentioned in the update log.

Same issues with a Ubiquity mesh system. Thought it was the handoff between APs, but maybe not. I'm on stock 10.0.5 TMO. It's done it since I've owned it which was launch day. I don't game or anything so it's just been a slight annoyance. I can confirm this is the only device having the issue. My wife has a V30 which is fine and my two daughters have Samsung Galaxy 9s which are also fine.

I have the same problem as you, and I have updated 10.0.8, but the problem persists, but I found that only a few people have this problem, so I try to change the settings of my asus gt5300 router. turn off Smart Connect function and separate the SSID of each 2.4Gzh 5Gzh, because my router is with 2 5Gzh so I also separate it into 2 SSID
If your router only has 2.4G and 5G, just separate them.
