8.1 Dev 1 Bluetooth Disconnects - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Pixel 2 XL on 8.1, my bluetooth headphones will connect just as normal than after roughly a minute of music playing they will just disconnect.
I have reverted back to 8.0 and everything works perfect, with the exact same headphones.
Anyone else have this issue? Or know of a fix?

i am having a similar issue, but I am still on 8.0. My headphones will just disconnect randomly. Pretty annoying.

Not had this issue yet

I was actually having issues with Bluetooth on 8.0 pretty regularly, but after upgrading to 8.1 they have completely gone away. I was having issues with music skipping in my car, audio just stopped working while listening to music or podcasts on my headphones, and my headphones and my car would disconnect. I installed DP1 the day it came out and have had 0 issues with Bluetooth since. I would wait until the November 8.0 update though to see if the Bluetooth fixes get bundled in that.

Yeah I installed 8.1 yesterday. Initially I had an issue connecting with 8.1. Then it resolved itself and is working great now with no issues at all.

I've had bluetooth devices disconnect on 8.0 and 8.1. Headphones have been ok. My Truck (Ford Sync) will disconnect very randomly and then connect back. Normally when I'm on the phone. I have a couple of golf gizmos that connect with bluetooth and they will disconnect randomly also

I have been experiencing the same issue on 8.1. I didn't try the headphones on 8.0 so I can't say if it also was happening on that build.
Based on previous responses it is also happening on 8.0.
Update: I moved back to 8.0 and my disconnect issues have stopped.

I paired my Pixel 2 XL the day I got it to my 2013 Fusion with Ford My Touch.
Everything worked great for the first couple days until I installed DP1 and now my text messages don't pop up to be read to me anymore?

I'm on 8.0 and have been having a lot of Bluetooth issues. My wireless earbuds work with other phones just fine, but on this phone the audio goes in and out on one of the earbuds. I want to update to the beta, but I have Substratum installed and don't want to lose it. Living that dongle life for now, lol. I just hate that every time I go to charge, I'm using the port already for my wired headphones. *1st World Problems*

Bluetooth Hell

I just bought a new car, 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid, that the cool kids refer to as HAH, anyways.....
Bluetooth output is sketchy at best.
Sometimes I get the side info like artist names and title songs.
Most of the time the sound has been playing from my phone speakers insteead of the car stereo.
Car indicates that the phone is connected but I cant get the output to function correctly.
Past ROMS and some apps have an output option but i cant seem to find any in youtube or play music.
Old 2012 Honda had no such issues.
thoughts or advice?
thanks
Maybe try to go back to stock and see what happens? What rom are you on?
Make sure you don't have any other Bluetooth devices outputting also like a smartwatch, it will interrupt your phone connection

If you go to System Settings | Bluetooth and then click the gear icon on your current Bluetooth connection, it'll give you options to select media and phone.
Did you verify both were selected? If media is not selected then music won't play on your car stereo.
So I have a 2016 Accord EX-L...The Bluetooth connection is sketchy for me as well. To get it to work I sometimes I have to toggle the Bluetooth on and off on my phone...Sometimes I have to change to a different source on the car head unit and then back to Bluetooth for it to output correctly...Sometimes it shows it is connected but only outputs sound through the phone. Additional, phone calls never worked through Bluetooth in the car. All of this was improved for me through the February security patch. I connect more often automatically like it should and my phone calls work now. However, time to time I have the same issues. I've done some research since I got the phone and it seems to be an issue on 2016 accords and now looks like 2017 have them too. I am holding out that the 7.1.2 update will resolve this problem but I have not found a solution yet.

Yes at the time of occurrence I verified that all the boxes were checked.
It was my first thought too, thanks

Sounds exactly like my experience.
Bluetooth issues are now getting a lot of press on the usual Android blogs and sites. Google acknowledges that they are working on it. So there is hope.

Yep! http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/0...-random-bluetooth-disconnects-pixel-pixel-xl/
Last update screwed up bluetooth for sure. Literally bought a new SUV a couple days before I got the update. The phone worked like a dream with the 12 speaker Sony head unit before and now can be a nightmare at times.
Looks like google has a fix, but no ETA on release.

At least Google admits something is wrong and a fix is in the works. I'm glad I don't have any issues on Resurrection Remix ROM with my 2013 toyota rav4.
Has anyone had any luck on getting their pixel to consistently connect to their Honda Accord? If I restart my phone it will be fine for the day but continue with the issue after that. Sometimes if I toggle "media audio" on and off it will connect normally. Other than that I have the same old issue. Has anyone solved this through rooting?
I have to toggle media on every time I connect to my Kia pixel kind of sucks

Hey all,
So I got the OTA Oreo update a few days ago and my Bluetooth seems to be working better so far. It connects to my car consistently and fully (I can control it from the head unit and the song info displays).
Only once has it had an issue like it use to before the update where it shows it connects but plays music through the phone.
Hopefully the update solves some of the issues we have been having to deal with!

Bluetooth Disconnects/Stutters

Hello all,
I know there are a few threads already about bluetooth issues but mine may be unique in a sense.
When my Pixel 2 XL is connected to my JBL speaker or car, the bluetooth stutters a lot (sometimes cutting off sound for 2 seconds at a time) and after a while it just disconnects completely. Restarting my phone might temporarily fix it and I'm not sure what causes it to happen. One thing to note is that the first time this happened is when I set up Android Auto and I could not even use it because it would just disconnect every two seconds.
I'm not sure if Android Auto is causing the issues, I will uninstall it today and see if my problems still happen. In the meantime, any ideas about why this might be happening? Anyone else have some of the same issues?
Some more troubleshooting information:
*My phone is only paired with three devices (watch, speaker, car).
*I keep bluetooth on all day.
*Disconnecting bluetooth and reconnecting it doesn't fix the problem, only restarting seems to make it stop.
*When the issue is happening, no information about the song is showing up on my car's display like it usually does. And none of the car controls can change the song or pause it like usual.
Have the same issue too.
I have the same error with my Pixel 2 XL.
It stutters when I use my Bose quietcomfort 35 bluetooth headphones, and is annoying enough to be unusable. These headphones work fine with a couple different iPhones I tried it with.
The bluetooth on the phone works fine with my monster superstar bluetooth speaker.
I spoke with a google representative, and while on the phone with her I the music played through the headphones without skipping. As soon as the call ended, the music started skipping again. The rep was not able to help me.
It seems the Pixel 2 XL has a problem with some devices and is ok with others.

I have the same headphone never had an issue with the QC35's and the Pixel 2 XL, also my car audio does drop for about half a second or less every now and again. But generally it has been solid
Also had the problem with a headphones Airy of the brand Teufel here in Germany. After Oreo update to 8.1 I don't have this anymore. Excuse my not perfect english.
I have the same problem. If I am driving I turn my wifi off and the Bluetooth issue stops.
Seems like a trend. I noticed the same since March update

Verizon Note 8 8.0 bluetooth issues?

Hi all I recently updated my verizon note 8 to 8.0 and all is well except bluetooth. Even connected to my car songs will skip stutter and often disconnect itself from bluetooth altogether. I never had this problem on 7.1. Any ideas how to fix this? Anybody else have bluetooth issues with this update?
I only use it on my LG HBS-1100 Headset and no problems. BTW, love all the sound optimizing this phone has.
Now if ONLY it could be rooted so I could have Viper back
I've noticed some lag or difficulty connecting since updating to Oreo. Have not tried diagnosing yet though.
I have stuttering on 7 and 8. But just on bluetooth speakers not headphones.i just associate it with using cheap speakers and higher quality headphones.

Bluetooth issues on official android Pie

Hi all...need some help with Bluetooth issues on my pixel 2 XL. I updated to the official Android pie today and noticed that my jbl Bluetooth earphones are having issues with calls. I cannot hear anything thing from the other side and the person on the other side can only hear some weird distortion. However I tried playing music on it and it works fine. Issue is only with calls. Anyone else facing this? I tried unpairing and pairing it again, restarted the phone, tried safe mode too but no luck.
Also I had sound echo issues with wired earphones (connected through dongle) on Oreo so I bought the jbl Bluetooth earphones and the echo was gone...and now after updating to Android pie my Bluetooth earphones don't work
Please help!

I have no issues wtih LG HBS730 BT headphones on calls or music with Pie. I've had four calls total, incoming and outgoing. I listened to music for about five hours too, no glitches.
I've had issues with the anker brand ones.
I have the same issue
Having issues connectingy to my car Bluetooth which has always worked before updating. Also experiencing WiFi drops.
Edit: went to stock Pie unrooted, and not as many wifi disconnects but my phone doesn't even see my car's Bluetooth connection . Fitbit connects just fine though. Weird..
Android Bluetooth is flakey as hell. Everyone gets a turn with incompatibility. P fixed my car with the first Dev preview. On O it was crud. There is a massive ongoing thread about it.

I had the same issue on my pixel XL on dp4 and dp5. Bluetooth worked fine for music but only crackled a little bit for phone calls. Both headsets and car were affected. Troubleshot it with Google rep and they told me my phone was broken. I also had multiple sensors stop working so auto brightness was broken and auto rotate was also broken (And a few other features like tap to wake screen). I ended up buying a pixel 2 xl and sending the other to Google as a trade in yesterday. Now I'm wondering if it wasn't just the software. I actually reset the phone and everything worked for a day or so before it failed again. I then exited the beta and everything worked on 8.1 Oreo for about a day before it all broke again. At that point I concluded it must be the phone. Hopefully the software didn't burn something up. I'm going to be ticked if this phone starts giving me trouble.
Are there any troubleshooting steps I can follow to see if solves the issue? Because it only happens on calls but music seems to be fine.
You can try rebooting in safe mode (long press the power off icon when you press the power button). I will restart with only minimal apps to see if it's being caused by a non Google app.

I tried this on my device but even in safe mode i faced the same issue
Ever since upgrading to PIE, I can no longer connect my my pioneer appradio head unit.
Phone works, but media Spotify or Pandora does not
Having the same issue, also, my "disable absolute volume" in developer settings doesn't work. I guess this is what to expect for early adopters.
I have had no issues with connectivity to my bluetooth headphones or to my car's bluetooth
However I have noticed that twice when I had phone call before entering the car and I connect to the car's bluetooth and the call is transferred to the car's audio, I get disconnected for a couple of seconds (after initially connecting correctly) and then it automatically reconnects and call continues normally ..
Android pie broke bluetooth for calls

Stock Pixel XL: All bluetooth devices worked for all purposes on Oreo. After updating to Pie none of my bluetooth headsets will connect for phone calls. Bluetooth music broadcasting to speakers is unaffected. I'm going to call them about it tomorrow.

Are you having any other issues. My original pixel XL had the same issue show up on the beta but it also affected some of my other sensors as noted in previous post. I now have a pixel 2 xl with no issues whatsoever.

Well, they seem to think that the problem is an app from the play store that doesn't play nice with Pie. Frustratingly, the problem corrects itself sometimes (but not all the time) after a reboot. They had me reboot into safe mode and this time it worked. After 20 minutes our support call was over. 30 minutes later one of my three headsets (with the oldest bluetooth version) didn't work, but two of the three did.
The tech (Jen, who was super nice but sounded like she was overseas and had to repeat herself a few times for clarity) said they only have 2 support options for this issue: 1) boot into safe mode and blame one of the apps from the play store or 2) FACTORY RESET THE PHONE! Once I explained that the phone was my google authenticator she suggested that to further troubleshoot I should turn off two factor for my google account (Ummm, no thanks. And that is why you should always PRINT OUT the QR code and put it in a fire-proof box in case you need to recover it)
I'll post back if it breaks again, but right now at least I can live with it.
Only "issue" for me is my wife's ILX doesn't seem to update the music information anymore. With the betas it did for a fee songs then seemed to stop. Now it's nothing at all but will double check today since I only drive it on occasion. Other than that, playback on our cars, Bluetooth speakers and headphones has been just fine. Love that it remembers the volume set per each device. No super low or super loud volumes on the start of playback.

I also have Bluetooth issues with Pie when connecting to my car (2017 Audi A4 with MMI+) I never use Android Auto by the way:
- Music playback is flaky: I have to start Play Music before connecting to the car, otherwise it cannot stream anything. Sometimes even this doesn't work and I have to repair again. This sucks, you always have to spend some time to check if everything works!
- My Radar trap warning app blitzer.de only works when streaming Audio from the phone to the car, even though I set Audio to HFP. With Oreo, the app started a phone call, it looked exactly like an incoming call. Now it only adds the warning to the phone's Audio Stream, so when listening to radio or streaming from a HDD I get no warnings.
- Phone calls work flawlessly, though
Try removing or 'forgetting' paired device and add it back again. It worked with my AirPods.

Anyone having Bluetooth issues?

Like I get disconnects from my car. The phone audio won't come through ones I turn on media audio. It's a mess. Anyone experiencing this? Is there a way to clear the Bluetooth cache? I googled and see how to do it on earlier versions but not pie. Tia

@DrUnkeN_TiGeR My car only supports telephone/contacts, not audio. I had to buy a cheap BT audio receiver and now everything works fine. What is the year/make/model of your car? Was it working with your previous phone and which one was that? You can find network reset in settings to reset bt.
I had an issues popup the last few days of playing music via BT to a BT Speaker.. after I stopped playing music, the volume rocker/popup would randomly show up, I was still connected to the BT Speaker but not playing anything and quit out of Spotify. I turned off BT and it stopped. Also, when I was playing music connected to BT, I randomly quit playing through the speaker. I had to turn off BT and turn it back on to resume play. Just sharing my issues.
Before the December update, all was perfect with one exception, the audio information would not show in my car while using certain music apps. After the December patch, audio now cuts out every once in a while. Like the pixel 2xl did the entire year I had it... Google seems to have issues making their bluetooth work like it should. Hopefully the January patch will fix things (not holding my breath).
Glad to hear not just me thanks guys

This exact thing has happened to me. I think it has only occurred with Play Music but I don't know if that's the cause. Didn't occur before December update.
More details. It seems to happen when I've advanced a song but that could be coincidence. I get no audio. I have a Subaru and I can see on the even display BT disconnected. Then it starts to cycle between connected and disconnected until I just turn on BT on my phone. Even though it briefly reconnects it doesn't actually function. No audio
