SmartThings Shield USB link - Shield Android TV General

Has anyone bought one for their shield yet? I just ordered mine along with a light bulb, too good of an offer to pass up IMO!

Got mine a couple days ago. Hooked right up with a few Zigbee sensors I had in the house and working great Waiting on a Google Home Mini to see how the interoperability (sp?) goes with it set up in different rooms.

What is the deal with that?
I mean offer.

I got my link for $10 using a code SHIELDLINK or something similar .. I had bought a Shield Pro and the email had a link. Great deal to make money on.... I prefer my SmartThings hub to the Shield Link approach.

Ordered one for 10 plus shipping.
Will start testing some things with it when it arrives.

I got one. Had shipping problem but that was USPS fault.
Install went easy. No smart items yet, so who knows. Might get a thermostat and a light bulb.

So... How well does it work?
I have one, but haven't connected it yet as I am currently using the HueLink hub for lights...

Mine works great. I don't have a full-size hub and never have, but there are no delays, downtime or glitchiness to speak of. I have 25 devices connected to and this is probably obvious, but if anyone is wondering it does continue to work when the shield is sleeping as well.

Guys have you tried this outside USA?
My shield TV doesn't give me a code to activate the app.

In-Flight (USB/Dock) Keyboard for Note

I just realized one thing I'll miss about my Transformer is having a physically connected keyboard that I can use while travelling by plane. From what I've read Bluetooth keyboards are a no-no for in flight usage. Has anyone used a USB connected mini-keyboard using the Samsung USB adapter? I also know Samsung will be coming out (from what I've read here) with a keyboard dock but it's not available yet. I thought I also read somewhere that the Tab 10.1 dock will work with the Note 10.1.
Has anyone had any luck or a good setup for using an in-flight keyboard setup for the Note 10.1?
Hello.
I use this one http://www.logitech.com/fr-fr/mice-pointers/mice-keyboard-combos/6229
Works perfectly, both mice and keyboard .

Exactly. Might not be BT but anything wireless shouldn't be used in flight.

Ok, I know everyone will probably gag on this but...
As I was reading this thread, I went upstairs and obsconded (kids dont use it, WTH) the WII Usb KB and connected it. Works fantastic!
If you have one laying around... it may solve your want.
I picked up the official Samsung keyboard dock last week, it works nicely for that purpose!
http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/...es/EKD-K14AWEGSTD?subsubtype=other-multimedia
Unfortunately, it's expensive and not available in most stores yet. Picked it up from the Samsung store in Sydney CBD.
Just so you know, Australia and USA both use the US keyboard layout (as opposed to the UK, which uses the UK layout), so maybe that could help you guys in the states source one of these? You won't have a messed up layout like you would ordering from the UK. Then again, I don't know any Australian place offering these for shipping internationally so that could be moot.

Very frustrating to not have these available for purchase in the US.
Is it possible to close it? Like the transformer or a regular laptop? Dont feel like not being able to close it..
An extra battery would be nice though incase of very long flights or train/car rides..
It doesn't hinge so you can't "fold" it closed like a regular laptop. Instead you just pull it out of the dock.
I know it has been discussed but I wanted to share my work. Not beautiful but it works. This is the dock for the Tab 10.1 modified for use with my Note 10.1

Asus Miracast Dongle (does it work?)

Hey guys,
I just heard about this little marvel..
http://www.asus.com/Tablet_Mobile_Accessories/ASUS_Miracast_Dongle/
Has anyone try this? I really want some sort of Airplay functionality for my tablet, its around 100$ but if it does what it says it does, i think its worth it.
So, anyone have one?!
Edit: got way to excited and noticed its not release yet... Lol. So who is getting one?

No clue about this guy. I have a Netgear PTV3000 that works pretty well for screen mirroring. I use it for streaming media. For gaming I use the Analogix Slimport since wireless mirroring addsd latency.
Would like to hear people's reviews about the Asus product as well. I guess will have to wait till it's release and someone tries it out.

AllCast is definitely a great video streaming option, especially for the cross platform (I have only tested it out on my Samsung TV). But, it is rather limited, at least at this time. Currently, it will only stream videos that are on your phone. It won't display pictures, stream other video services (Netflix, VUDU, etc), or even do mirroring. Hopefully, it will have these features in the future.
As for a mirroring device, I have high hopes for the ASUS Miracast Dongle. Hopefully, the dual bandwidth will cure the latency issues with the current wireless options. Unless I see reviews of it being a complete failure, I will be purchasing one of these.
Anyone seen when these will be released?
$100 for this is just crazy... and people complain about Apple's pricing?
android tv stick is a better choice
i recommend to buy an android tv stick like tronsmart mk908 or t908. it is a standalone pc stick and can even sstream everything via miracast.
it is much cheaper. chromecast or asus dongle are very limited of its functions.

Im curious to see if this one works as well as they say it does. Just not wanting to be the test rat for it atm... Done my fair share of testing new products.
there was a German poster over at the Asus T100 forums that said the Asus Dongle would not work for him.
i went ahead and bought the Actiontec Receiver from Wally World, works just fine so far, had to update the firmware...good to go.

Miracast actually mirrors what is on your phone/tablet screen; of course your device has to have official Miracast hardware support. (think of it as wireless hdmi with a slight lag). With Chromecast, you have to use an approved app on your tablet/pc/phone, and those apps essentially send a special secured link to your Chromecast device, Chromecast pulls the link, and Chromecast processes it & displays it on your TV. Or, you can mirror a chrome tab from your pc/mac; this only works with some (not all) websites.
I almost jumped on this at $30, now its $20? Can anyone that actually has it confirm that it works ok with the Moto x? The reviews are less than stellar, but I'm really interested in getting one. Just trying to decide whether to spend more money on one with better reviews. I would be using it for watching tv/movies from my device. The main issue I'm worried about is audio sync, absolutely annoying during a movie. A little stuttering is fine, but out of sync for 2hrs would be unbearable.

Miracast with CM11?

I see the option for cast to screen for CM 11. Will this work for Miracast?
If so is this a good one to get?

I've never got cast to work properly with cm11 or any custom rom. Only stock. Using an android box with miracast receiver. Let us know if you have success. Oh mine was keedox android box think i picked it up less than 50 bucks.

Oh so the cast doesn't work? I'd rather not waste 20 bucks if it's not going to work lol
Not saying it doesn't. Just my experience. Ive not tried a new cm11 build in awhile. Maybe others will chime in with positive outcomes.

Just loaded aicp newest ROM. Cast worked fine. No reason cm11 wouldn't. My bad.
Well just worried I heard chromecast just added the option to mirror my friend gave me a chromecast and I've been using it. I updated the app to the newest software and no cast for the phone.

Actually this thread here makes chromecast mirroring work for any device (most devices) works fine with lg g pro.

Well I'm installing the newest nightly to see if that helps too. Right now it's crashing when trying to cast. At least it shows it now
Went ahead and bought the one listed in the original post. I won it for 18 bucks. Pick had to use 16 in ebay bucks in 3 days or lose them so only really had to pay like 2 bucks for it. Hopefully I"ll be able to mirror with this. I'm really surprised no one with CM 11 as bought a miracast doggle before.

Can you provide additional info on how this particular dongle worked for you? I have just gotten into Miracast, and am looking at dongles etc. I have looked at Netgear's Push2TV and Actiontec Screenbeam Pro. I was very skeptical about these smaller manufacturer dongle...so I would appreciate your input on this dongle you bought.
BTW, just remember that as far as Laptops/Computers go the computer HARDWARE must be Intel certified for Widi to work, even though Windows 8.1 has Miracast SOFTWARE. So for now I am stuck using only my phone/tablet natively.
Thanks for any feedback!

Well it worked if I was on the same wifi even though it didn't need the net to be on in order to work. Since the chrome cast option came out I didn't really worry about using the miraicast anymore but wanted to try it out. I'm sure it will work even better with a higher priced miricast doggle but ya again it works but for hotel wise I just went with my android doggle it always plays anything perfectly fine and it entertained all of my gf and Is roommates a ton.

Smart things link/hub for Nvidia shield TV

Anyone have any experience/info on these? Sounds like some pretty good deals going on:
https://shop.smartthings.com/smartthings-link
use promo “SHIELDLINK” to get the link for just $9.99
use “SHIELDBUNDLE” to get the bundle package, which incudes the link, two led bulbs and a motion detector for just $39.99
i have two shields in the house. just ordered 1 of the links for 9.99 and the kit for 49.99. all of that for $60 and free shipping.
More info: https://www.androidcentral.com/smar...ur-shield-tv-complete-home-automation-hub?amp
I ordered one as well, just the link for 9.99 (+4.5 shipping).
I have been running an open-source PC z-wave server for years (HomeGenie), which has no GoogleHome/Assistant compatibility.
Have been looking at SmartThings for a while, but so far wasn't worth $80 with HomeGenie working just fine.
Now for $10 it was a no brainer!!! Definitely a great deal!
Seems like a deal but how to benefit if you are from Europe, The Netherlands?
so how's this work then? has the shield got built in Z wave and Zigbee radios?

The shield doesn't, the dongle does.
I used it for about 6 months and retired it when Experience 7.0 came out.
If you plan on using it exclusively with Smartthings, if works great.
My story is that...soon after purchasing it, I discovered Home Assistant. Home Assistant is open source and the best piece of software around for home automation. With a little bit of work I was able to integrate Smartthing and Home Assistant and got all my devices in both software (the big advantage of Home Assistant - or HA - is that I can interface with everything around the house, such as Chromecasts, Kodi, ios location, smart TVs, receivers, Smartthings etc. It connects all different APIs within one platform).
But when Exp 7.0 came out, the ports used for this to happen were blocked, and ruined my setup. So I bought an actual SmartThings hub.
Again, if use is exclusively made in Smartthings, it works great.
