I am getting a little frustrated at some of the things that don't seem to be working. I came from a S8+ and use Aquamail. Push email doesn't seem to work. I also tried it with Nine email as well and I can't seem to get it to work in either app. I don't know, maybe it could be notifications that aren't working. When I open the app, the email is there but I don't get any notifications of a new email.

Out of curiosity, why not use Gmail? Do these apps have some features over Gmail that make it worth while? I use Gmail for my exchange account and push notifications and it works there though

I use K-9 email and have the same problem, I'm pretty sure it's an Oreo thing. Oreo goes to great lengths to stop apps from running in the background for better battery life. The good news is that you can stop Oreo from optimizing the battery for a specific app, the bad news at least for me so far is that your phone won't doze any more. This doesn't really kill battery life but it kinda goes from awesome to not so good. So unfortunately I don't believe there's good solution so far.
I'm getting the same issue with the Gmail app and I've confirmed that the app is not battery optimized. I kinda need this to work ?
Same here! November update, Gmail does not refresh. Kind of a serious issue, I would say! I already submitted feedback.

It will certainly continue to doze when you disable optimization on any application. The only difference is that the doze will be interrupted by that particular application while its alarm runs. Naturally, anything that causes the CPU to wake up, will reduce battery life. This is a fact that there simply is no way to avoid.
FYI: This change first appeared in Android 7. Not new to Android 8.

I couldn't tell you about the implementation for exchange, since I *will not* use any ms product ever.... but I can tell you that the AOSP email client (which is visually merged into the Gmail application when it is installed) does NOT support any form of push notification for IMAP.

The gmail application is NOT what needs to be battery optimized to receive gmail notifications. In fact, I'm not sure if the gmail application does any networking *at all*. Gmail push notifications are implemented through GCM/FCM (google/firebase cloud messaging), which is through Google Play Services.
Blue Mail is working great for me.
I started having issues with Exchange email syncing this week and am noticing Gmail keeping the app awake for hours each battery cycle. Even tried removing the account, clearing Gmail data and cache, and rebooting.
By chance, did any of you clear a bunch of stuff from Google Framework to force the November OTA?
ouch
I did reset it and then the problems rolled in. How are you meant to get Now 17 when a new pixel 2 xl I got on Tuesday is on October OTA. I have had to factory reset and start to add everything back in. Touch wood that the sync and emails seem to be working fine now!

I meant October or whatever is the latest OTA. But, doing that method of clearing framework causes the issues you're having.

Interestingly enough, enabling battery optimization for the gmail app is what fixed my problem (account wasn't syncing unless I opened it and swiped down). Now my exchange account syncs properly. I understand what you're saying, but I think my issue was with the gmail app itself and not the push notifications within the app.
go into battery optimization. turn OFF battery optimization for these apps you require push (i even disabled it for whatsapp)
Is there a fix if you did clear the data from Framework?

I had the same problem. Have used HTC Mail on many previous phones and like it.
Found a standalone version of it that will install with any apk installer.
Works fine with no issues on the Px2-XL.

anyone having roblems with push FB notifications?
It's never worked for me. I've heard that Facebook said their push notifications are supported on Android, but never seen it, no matter what settings you use in the app.
BUT if you want to get push notifications for Facebook messages, then that is supported in their separate (official) app, which I've had no problems with.

FIX:
Find a friend with a blackberry or use/download the blackberry emulator.
Log into facebook in the blackberry app, grant it permission to your facebook data.
Push notifications should now work on your android device.
I know it's weird, but that seems to make it work for some reason.
never worked for me
but i've ditched it for the time being since it was eating up 20% of battery usage =/

Never worked for me
I was getting notifications, but uninstalled the app to save on batteries. Now I use the mobile version online, which has pretty much all the features as the app.
Stock 4.0.1 rom
BB fix works for me, make sure you change the notification sound from silent to whatever you want (mine is the facebook pop)
Also you can change the refresh to never because the important stuff is pushed regardless. (saves battery)
Also IMPORTANT, make sure you don't have the facebook account signed in on any other android devices such as tablets or other phones.
Do this and facebook push will work every time.

When I was at stock 4.0.1 or 4.0.2, FB push works perfectly for me (I guess).
But after having flashed AOKP Milestone 3 build from 4.0.3, push stopped working for no reason.
What always 100% worked for me was deactivating and then reactivating my facebook account. I switch roms frequently and sometimes FB push notification would not work on certain roms unless I do what I mentioned earlier. Just log back in to reactivate your account. Hope this helps.

Mine have also stopped within the past day or so. I originally had to do the BlackBerry trick to get them working in the first place too. I tried deleting and clearing the data cache, as well as uninstalling then reinstalling the app and trying the BlackBerry trick again but that doesn't work.
No idea why they've stopped.
I was running AOKP Milestone 3 build 22 and FB push stopped working.
I tried to deactivate / reactivate my FB account according to DOHCtor's method but no luck.
Tonight I flashed the build #23 and FB push start working correctly. I have no idea.
Furthermore, FB Messenger seems not working
Hi,
No matter what, gmail emails will not automatically be synced unless i manually refresh the gmail app. On my old Nexus 5 and any other android device I've used the gmail app will always send a push notification whenever i receive an email but that does not happen on my N5X. I have enabled all the sync settings etc, compared them with the N5 to see if i had any setting unticked etc but they are the same yet my new 5X doesn't sync.
Anyone know any solutions?

Working okay here. Doze mode can stop Gmail notifications, so if the phone is left for 30 minutes or so and isn't moved that might explain it. Generally the notifications then ping through when you turn on the phone, or they just arrive late at the next scheduled wake-up event that Doze controls.
It might just be a registration problem at Googles side with their cloud notification system, it may sort itself out, have you tried restarting the phone?
Are Hangout notifications coming through okay?
Regards
Phil
Check your settings in Gmail. I had checked do not notify me for every message at one point. But to check your situation unchecked that and am getting a good sync
I am experiencing this issue. Gmail just stopped syncing a week ago. It doesn't even check for new emails when I open Gmail app. Only Gmail has sync problem. Other apps including other Google apps don't have any problems. I'm on OnePlus One CM13 nightlies.
Thank god, I'm not alone. This has been happening for a week plus, for me. It's ridiculous. And only on my 5x. Tablet is fine.
I am not having any issues with syncing of Gmail. I am having an issue with getting notified from any inbox that's not my primary inbox (like social and promotions, etc...). When i open gmail and before it refreshes it says i have new emails. I have made sure I have my label Notifications set correctly. This started around December 24th.
Also just noticed this as well I have Light Manager installed and when i get a new email the light will blink informing me I received a new email, but there won't be any notification on the lock screen or in the notification bar. Hopefully Google gets this sorted out

Yeah, it's been flaky for me lately the last couple of weeks. I read on 9 to 5 google about a bug around the do not disturb feature, I wonder if this weirdness is related. I'll be fine for a while, then i'll go hours without syncing until I manually sync. Not sure what's going on.
I fixed the same problem by uninstalling greenify and rebooting.
There's a bug ticket on this:
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=197805
Star or comment and maybe they'll take the hint.
Been happening to me now for quite some time, even before 6.0.1. Neither Gmail nor Inbox are auto-syncing.

Hi guys,
I had the same issue back when I first got my Nexus 5X. I fixed it eventually by factory resting the device. Been great since, no issues. I suggest you guys try the same if you want a possible solution.

That's what I was thinking... Wonder what rom you guys are running because everything is fine on pure stock. Gmail and everything else syncs without problems.
You may want to go back to a nightly from before Xmas and see if that fixes it. Or read the change log to find out what changed.

I am pure stock. Haven't even rooted or anything. Just taken the two OTAs I've received since I bought the phone back in Oct, putting me on MMB29K now. Waiting to see if anything comes out of the bug ticket before factory resetting... Shouldn't have to do that on a pure stock, unmodified phone.

Me neither. But I'm just suggesting it in case you desperately need it fixed. Otherwise feel free to wait and see if Google bother to fix it.

I've had issues with Gmail for over a year and nothing fixed it, I had to use inbox to get any notifications since then. I did notice that I haven't had any inbox notifications in the past week, but my connection hasn't been stable until today so I didn't think about it.
with my nexus 7 close by, i noticed as well that my 5x wasn't syncing gmail properly while having the exact same settings. what seems to have done the in my case was deactivating the battery-optimization for gmail. i have had it like that for almost a week now. mails once again come throug without me entering the app and i have not noticed any difference in the apps energy consumption.
So a couple more comments on this. 1) I read somewhere I believe on the bug post, about turning off the doze feature for GMail might solve the problem. I tried that along with turning it off for Nine(I use that for work Exchange email) 2) I see the problem with Nine also, so it's not just GMail. I'm thinking maybe Doze and ActiveSync aren't playing nice together. I've turned off Doze for both the email applications as of yesterday morning and so far, no issues. Anecdotal unfortunately at this point as It's not a simple repeatable problem to know for sure yet if it's really fixed.
I'm having the same issue. It's definitely the Nexus 5X and not gmail as I have my Nexus 7 with me and it notifies me fine (in fact, that's how I know I have emails most of the time). Not sure what's going on, but it's really getting annoying. I'm desperate enough to try a factory data reset soon.
Hello
as far as i saw
and i research there's no solution right now for ages of the sync problem of Gmail app (or it is the android it self), there is any application that can over it so i can get really notifications on time without any delay like the Gmail app?
it can be at Gmail delay till i open the screen , till now i tried all the available solutions including full wipe of the device and install from scratch, yet the problem there, so i thought maybe to move to another app that can do the same sync without delays.
thank you

Does your issue extend to other phones other than the Pixel? You have posted this same issue several times over a long period of time. You don't mention that your carrier is Swisscom, or consider that to be a contributing factor. What phone did you have before the Pixel.... was it the N6P? Whatever phone it was, did you have the same issue? I'd have to go back and look at my messages but I am pretty sure we had a conversation, you did wipe your phone, Gmail sync time is not adjustable, and maybe you should try/test a different carrier or chalk it up to your location? When you "wiped" your phone did you fastboot flash a full image leaving the wipe switch (-w) in the flash-all script in place or did you remove it?

yes, i fully wiped the phone.
second, it was from day zero with new device - pixel 2 xl.
thered, ot was also with n6p, also, the wipe was a flash of full image leaving the wipe switch (-w) in the flash-all script in place
and the issue is with WiFi so the carrier here is not a factor.
and like the other posts, i think it's android thing and not carrier/isp thing

Well, ok but if I had two different new phones from two different manufacturers (across multiple versions of Android) exhibit the exact same issue, I would conclude differently than you have. Best of luck to you, I know this must be frustrating.
I actually installed Microsoft Outlook because I have, or had, this same problem with Gmail, and the Outlook notifications work. The only thing is there seem to be more notifications since it doesn't screen message priority the same way. Although, after the update to Pie, and a factory reset, the notifications on Gmail have improved to where I took the accounts off of the Outlook app. However, the phone originally seemed to do notifications just fine and then one day just didn't, so we'll see how it goes.
If I have my ipad on and/or my old Note 4, or Nexus 5X on, they'll often show the notifications, while the Pixel 2XL won't. In fact I keep them around because sometimes they're the only way I catch something in time.
I also started having problems with calendar notifications on the Pixel 2XL many months back. I think it has improved after Pie, but seems hit and miss. Again, my prior phones show them just fine.

Little late on the reply, but yeah, the notifications work with Outlook. Which is much better than Gmail if they aren't. But, as I said before, my Gmail came back to life after the last update, so I only have my Hotmail account on Outlook now. Outlook app does tend to show more alerts than Gmail app.

hello there, my gmail sync is really slow, as in 2 hours, did you ever found a solution since posting this? thank you
I use the stock email app and push email is no longer working at all since the Pie update was received as an OTA update and everything worked perfectly fine before.
I've double checked all settings on my exchange (via office365) email account to make sure that they hadn't changed and even deleted the e-mail account and recreated it to no effect.
I had to go out for a little bit this morning and whilst I was out I received 15 emails which all showed on the outlook client on my desktop PC, but not a single one of them had been pushed to my phone as they were received. On opening the stock email app the last synced time at the top was several hours ago and the only way that I could receive the messages was by doing a manual sync.
Has anyone else encountered anything similar since the update or has any idea on how to fix it as I rely on push email when I am out and about
yes. Same here. Updated last night and now it's not getting the push on e-mails from the Samsung Email app. I've rebooted my phone a couple of times. Still a problem.
Working OK with the Microsoft Outlook email app
Same issue here with both stock Samsung email app (Gmail account connected through IMAP) and Gmail app
The BlackBerry Hub app kept working after the Pie update on my S9. Must be specific to the Samsung email app.
Have you tried deleting and re-adding the account. Could be a setting that didn't carry over properly, since I'm sure, the email app itself was also updated.

I've finally managed to fix this, I had to delete the profile and clear all data (including anything linked to a system app related to mail and calendar as I sync both) reboot the phone, clear all the data again and then put everything back - it's now been 24 hours and it is still working!

Seems that I spoke too soon. Push was working with some limited testing confined from one other email account to the one set up on my phone, but the following day was still experiencing the same lack of sync issues, with a load of mails coming through once I opened up the email app, but not before.
Perhaps was working ok before while the phone was still relatively 'awake', but when left to its own devices starts to sleep the apps. There is no setting I can find in Pie to keep certain apps always awake, so not sure what to do here.
peak hours schedule
My push mail also stopped after the pie update. I found out that setting a peak hours schedule with push made push email work again.

My push email didn't work with gmail with Oreo and still doesn't work with Pie. I have tried switching to the Samsung email client as well. It works properly if the phone has been awake within the last 30 minutes or so but after that it is back to taking 15 minutes or more(sometimes hours) for an email to arrive.
I have tried all of the suggestions in this thread, nothing made any difference.
So frustrating...
Make sure the OS isn't putting the email client to sleep to save battery.
Thank you!

After moving from OP7T from OP5, I am having trouble getting new mail notification in the Gmail app. Notification is severely delayed in most cases, and sometimes work when the phone is woken up. I don't see Gmail listed under Battery Optimization, so I'm not sure whether Gmail is getting killed off or not. Anyone else having the same issue? I tried locked the app in the recent apps screen, but nothing improved.

To me it seems sporadic tho; if I get an email verification from some site, it will usually come through right away. But I do find that when the phone is sleeping I wake it up sometimes and a few emails come they all of a sudden.
